when you die, you either go to heaven or hell. simple, right? if you did enough good deeds, or at least well-intended deeds, in your life, you went to heaven, where you were able to live in paradise for eternity. if you went to hell— well, it was the opposite.
the rules were different for celestial beings. you were either born an angel or a demon, and you assisted with the goings-on of whatever happened in heaven or in hell, respectively. so you weren't taken care of for all eternity, but you weren't tortured, either. you were just... a well-off employee.
heaven and hell were connected, but only barely— each destination had a portal to a sort of 'neutral' space— where negotiations and deals were made, for more unclear situations. but angels and demons were never, under any circumstances, allowed into the others' realm. there would be severe punishment for anyone who violated that rule.

a few weeks ago, kokichi ouma had just been minding his own business. he'd done his shift for the morning, going to help with the humans that needed torturing. it was a satisfying enough job, especially for the worse humans. it felt like karma, in a way, for the things that they'd done on earth. he never thought of his job as a bad thing, and why would he? somebody needed to do it. what, were they just going to let the people who did such awful things off the hook? no, of course not! and even so, it was kind of fun when you knew that they deserved it.
he were passing by the library, where all of the records and files were, when they heard something (probably a book) fall to the ground. that caught kokichi's attention, for some reason, like there was something unusual. it wouldn't be an issue— he'd just peek inside, right?
he slowly opened the door to the files room, and his suspicions of something being off were correct. there was a tall, blonde girl looking through one of the shelves. there was a bright, glowing disk of light above her head, and a small pair of glowing wings to match. an angel. kokichi wouldn't admit it, but she was actually really pretty.
before kokichi could do or say anything, the girl spotted him, and froze up. kokichi took a moment to try and assess the situation, and figure out what his best bet was, before he was caught off-guard. apparently, this angel had thought that the best way to handle this situation would be to distract him. she quickly crossed over to him, pushing him gently but firmly against the wall, and kissing him. (in the girl's defense, she'd panicked, and tried to think of the best thing that would shock a demon coming from an angel.) she stayed in the kiss for a few seconds before pulling away. she stared at him for a moment, her cheeks heating up, before readjusting the file in her hand and dashing out of the room and back to the portal. and kokichi didn't see her again.
until his higher-ups were informed of the situation. since kokichi was the only one who had seen her, he was assigned to watch the portal, to ensure that she didn't come back— and if she did, she'd be given an appropriate punishment. but guarding nobody was a boring job, and kokichi hated it.
until now, when out stepped the blonde angel again. she didn't really seem to notice kokichi off to the side, just started heading for the library quickly. what was she doing...?
what do you do?

sure, there were basic things that angels and demons, separately, were not allowed to do. but the most taboo of all was fraternizing with a celestial being not of your realm for non-business reasons— especially for romantic reasons.
that's why kaede and kokichi always met in secret. they took turns— smuggling the other through the portal to heaven or hell, and staying there for a day or two before they were smuggled back out. they were in love, and although they didn't know how this had ever happened, it had. so they had to find a way around the rules.
the two had met while they were interning with higher-ups, and they attended a meeting to discuss the fate of one human who's deeds on earth put them right on the discerning line. they'd gone to discuss the case, and they'd just kind of felt a connection. things had escalated from there.
but now people were starting to get suspicious. the other angels were wondering why kaede was being so suspicious, and the other demons were questioning why kokichi would be gone for days at a time. the purple-haired demon was in kaede's bedroom at the moment, while the blonde angel sat at her desk across the room doing paperwork. she suddenly spoke up. " kichi , what happens if they catch us ? " kaede asked, turning around to look at him. " i'm really worried , to be honest ... "
what do you do?
