"Bradley fucking Lewis." Lavender scoffed, dragging her shoes across the gravel. "Can you believe it?"
Syd pursed her lips, shaking her head no. Lavender huffed, crossing her amrs. "She deserves better, right? Yeah, I think she does."
Syd nodded in agreement, "What does she se-"
"Syd, hol on, shut the fuck up for a second, how do I look?" Lavender's back straightened as she noticed they were passing Stanley Barber's house. Syd knitted her eyebrows, watching as Lavender subtly tried to smooth her hair out.
"What? Um.. great.. like always?" Syd said slowly shaking her head, "Why-"
"Syd! Lavender! Hey!" Stanley's voice rang out, causing a large grin to spresd like butter.
Syd's face fell, "Ah, that's why."
Lavender giggled quietly, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she slipped her hands into her back pocket. Syd squinted at her, sighing
"Hey, Stanley. Lookin' good." Lavender winked, biting her lip nervously.
"Thanks." Stanley smiled, nodding to himself. "Oh, one second.. My leg fell asleep."
Lavender watched as he stretched his leg out, her eyes brightening as she looked at him. Syd glanced at her, puffing her cheeks out as she shook her head and looked away from them. "Can I walk with you?"
"Of course!" Lavender nodded, leaning her elbow on Syd's shoulder. "Right, Sydney?"
"Yeah, sure.. Why not?" Syd shrugged off Lavender.
"Cool.. Cool." Stanley grinned to himself, nodding as he began walking with them. "Cool."
Lavender noticed that his feet were bare and covered in dirt. Syd squinted as she looked down. "Uh, you okay?"
"Building your feet strength?" Lavender teased, "That's wicked cool, Stanley."
"Shoes.. Who need them?" Stanley ignored her and continued his conversation with Sydney. Lavender puffed out her cheeks, looking down at her feet as she counted her steps to herself.
Counting her steps helped her calm down, especially when her step dad was screaming at her for something she had done. Syd looked over at her friend, frowning when she noticed her lips moving to say numbers quietly. "You okay?"
"Hm? Oh, always." Lavender confirmed, leaning over to catch a glimpse of Stanley.
"So.. Blood witch.. Am I right?" He said slowly, clapping his hands together as he walked joyfully.
"What?" Sydney furrowed her eyebrows, earning a slight nod from Lavender.
"Like, the music."
"Oh, I love them!" Lavender had never heard that band name in her entire life. She made a mental note to listen to them later.
"Really? What's your favorite album?"
Stanley's face lit up as he leaned over to look past Sydney to Lavender.
Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit. Lavender's face fell as she stumbled out a sentence. "I-I.. um, I'm.. I don't know.. I don't really have one, actually, but um, it's hard to choose."
"It's a band? That's a terrible name for a band." Sydney laughed, shaking her head.
"Nah.. It's perfect." Stanley shrugged, "Lavender agrees."
"She always agrees with you." Syd huffed, raising her eyebrows as she nudged Lavender.
"That's not true!" Lavender gasped, gently shoving Syd. "You're unbelievable.."
Syd laughed, shaking her head as she brought her lips in between her teeth. "I bet they sound like shit."
"They sound like the shit." Lavender corrected. "Right, Stanley."
"Well, I mean.. I'm.. I, uh, I have them on vinyl.. limited edition. Eight fold, and stuff.. If you wanna come over.. and we can listen some time." Stanley suggested, nervousness overtaking his tone. Lavender frowned, noticing that he was nervous because of Syd.
"Oh, uh, I.. I don't-" Syd started before Stanley cut her off.
"We can get high."
"No shit! You have weed?" Lavender gasped, "Fuckin' hell, I might just have to marry you."
Stanley's face reddened as he began to stumble over his words. "Well, well, I mean.. You don't have to! I was just.. I was just suggesting, because you know, we live so close together and we've never really.. hung out before."
"I mean.. I guess not." Sydney shrugged, glancing over at Lavender. Syd was clearly uncomfortable. All she wanted to do was lock herself in her room and eat peanut butter straight from the jar with Lavender.
"I think we should!" Lavender agreed readily, ignoring her friend's eyes narrowing on her.
"Really? I-I mean.. you don't have to-"
Lavender looked over at Syd, subtly telling her to agree. Syd huffed, "Yeah. Sure. Maybe we should."
Lavender bit her lip to hide the grin threatening to spread across her cheeks.
"Uh, yeah, cool. Let me know." Stanley shot finger guns at Syd awkwardly as he backed away. Lavender waved to him, unaware of Sydney's annoyed gaze set on her. Lavender laughed as he bowed.
"What a world we live in, Sydney, Lavender." Stanley began to skip away, his mood seeming increasingly brighter.
"What was that?" Syd whispered harshly as she looped her arm with Lavender's and pulled her along.
"What was what?" She played dumb as she patted her on the head.
"That! You were flirting with him the entire time." Syd scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"Was not! Why do you care anyway?" Lavender defended herself, "You.. jealous?"
"Jealous? Of y-"
"Of Stanley." Lavender interrupted, winking. "Come on, we all know I'm a fucking catch. You're probably dead gone over me already."
"No one uses dead gone anymore, Lav." Syd said, shaking her head.
"Well, I do. So obviously someone does." Lavender laughed, "Maybe you should get your ears checked. The prettiest girls lose their hearing first. It's just science."
"Smart ass." Syd scoffed, her cheeks dusting red.
"Only for you, babe." Lavender winked, "Only for you."

"Where the fuck have you been?"
"Out." Lavender snapped, her eyes falling to the beer can in his hand, slamming the front door behind her. "Where the hell else would I be if I wasn't home?"
"Don't use that kind of language in my house!" The man snapped, standinng from his reclining chair and crunching the beer can in his hand. Eric was actually a good man when he was sober.. sort of. But when he had one too many to drink, the man turned into a nightmare.
"This isn't your fucking house, Eric." Lavender glared, stomping up the stairs.
"Don't you walk away from me, young lady! You better not have been with that Syd girl again. She's a bad influence. Before you know it you're gonna be piercing your face and dyeing your hair. You'll end up dead in a ditch."
"Oh, no! Of course not! I would never ever hang out with Syd! My best friend! Why would I do that? Hm?" Lavender rolled her eyes as his heavy footsteps followed her up the stairs and down the hallway.
"Lose the attitude before I lose it for you." He threatened, leaning against the doorframe of her bedroom.
"Try me." Lavender glared, slamming her bedroom door in his face.
"Fucking bitch."
Lavender's eye twitched as she locked the door, "Fuck you!"
