Chapter Seventeen
FINAL CHAPTER
Kiss Me
"I like you.." Beverly said slowly, shocking Maya. Her eyes widen as her jaw dropped.
"What?" Maya gasped, her eyebrows furrowing.
"Yeah, I like you. Probably more than I should. This whole situation made me realize that I do and that you should know-" Beverly began to ramble, part of her regretting the decision she made to tell her.
A bright grin from Maya stopped Beverly's sentence before she could finish, "What?"
"I like you, too. I have for, like, the entire summer." Maya explained, her cheeks tinting pink.
"Oh." Beverly muttered. Neither girl was sure on what to do next. But when Maya looked up and saw how the sunlight hit the pale girl, causing her to have a glow to her, she knew.
Maya lifted her hand slowly and rested it gently against Beverly's cheek.
"What are you-"
"Kiss me?" Maya interrupted, smiling nervously.
Her words shocked Beverly, but she quickly recovered. She leaned forward to meet Maya half way. Finally, their lips connected.
Relief flooded Maya as she pulled Beverly closer. Her hands fell down to her waist and Beverly's slipped around her neck.
Joy flooded Beverly's body as she smiled into the kiss.
Beverly's lips were soft and warm against Maya's cold ones.
Finally, the two girls pulled away for air. The world seemed brighter when Maya's eyes opened. The air around her felt warmer. Her senses seemed to be dialed to an eleven.
Maya smiled, her face reddening, "Do you wanna, maybe, be my girlfriend?"
"I would love that."
~~~
As Maya walked home, she was practically skipping. Until the worries began to plague her mind.
What if someone saw us?
What if someone tells my dad?
Maya sighed, pausing to look up into the sky. She knew what she had to do.
If she wanted to feel right again, normal again, she had to tell her family.
Specifically, her father. She inhaled sharply, and began on her way again.
Lost in her thoughts of the redheaded girl, and how she would tell her father about her liking to girls, she arrived home faster than she anticipated.
Quietly, she pushed the door open and stepped inside.
"May- Is that blood? Who's blood is that? Where have you been? You didn't even tell me where you were going!" David scolded, looking over from the couch.
"S-Sorry, dad. But, uh, I need to talk to you." Maya said, moving to sit on the couch next to her father.
"Oh, about what?" David was concerned now, as he stared at his nervous daughter staring at her hands.
"I," She paused to take a deep breath, "I might as well just say it, huh? I like.. girls, dad. I like girls."
"Oh, honey, I know. It's okay, you're okay." He whispered gently, pulling his grime covered daughtee into a hug.
"You're not mad?"
"No, honey, no I'm not. You're still my daughter. Liking girls or liking boys wouldn't change that fact."
Maya nodded and leaned her head on his shoulder.
"You like Beverly, don't you?"
"Mhm." Maya hummed, her eyes drooping. She was exhausted after the days events.
~~
Just over a month had passed from that day. It was September now. Bill had called the rest of the Loser's to some kind of meeting.
"So, Portland, huh?" Maya whispered, her tone saddened.
"Yeah.." Beverly nodded, "My aunt said I could stay for as long as I needed.."
Maya nodded, reaching over to grip her cold hand in her warm one. Nobody was around, as the two girls were walking in the field. Neither of them were worried about being seen, just about each other, and what they would do without one another.
"I'll miss you, Bev."
"Yeah, me too."
Beverly's hand slipped from Maya's as they arrived at the place Bill told them to meet.
Maya moved to sit next to Richie before speaking, "Hey, dork."
"Maya!" Richie said enthusiastically, pulling her into a side hug.
"So, guess what," Maya whispered, avoiding the ears of the several eavesdropping losers around her. "It's important."
"What? You got laid?"
"No! Bev and I-"
"Fuc-"
"Richie, don't."
"Right, right, sorry. What happened?"
"We kissed!"
Shock covered Richie's face, before a grin replaced it soon after.
"Really?"
"Yes! It was so, just.. ah!"
Richie chuckled as he watched Maya rave about Beverly. He was glad someone could make her feel like this.
Shortly after Bill arrived, he began asking Beverly what happened when she was floating.
She took a deep breath before starting to explain, "I can only remember parts.. but I thought I was dead. That's what it felt like. I saw us, all of us, back in the in the sewers. But we were older, like our parents ages."
"Wh-What were we all doing there?" Bill asked.
"I just remember how we felt. I was scared, and I don't think I can ever forget that.."
Maya frowned, she wanted to kiss Beverly and tell her everything would be okay.
Bill abruptly stood, starling Maya. She had been jumpier since the incident had ended. She knew this would mess her up for a while.
"Swear it. S-S-Swear if IT isn't dead, if IT ever comes back, we'll come back too."
Beverly stood first, and next was Richie, pulling Maya up with him. Eddie stood next, followed by Stan, Mike, and Ben.
Bill cut his hand, then Richie's. Maya winced as he dragged the cut glass along her hand.
"Hope that glass didn't have aids on it, right, Eddie?" Maya commented, squeezing her hand shut.
Bill continued to cut the rest of the Loser's hands until he was in his original spot.
Maya joined hands with the rest of the group as she glanced around at her friends.
Maya's hair blew in the wind as they let their hands drop. She glanced at Beverly, asking for silent permission.
"Um, so, there's.. this thing I should tell you all.." Maya started, her nervousness evident in her shaky tone.
"Wh-What is it?"
She glanced again at Beverly before finally speaking it into the world for her friends to hear, "I'm.. gay. I like girls."
After the initial shock had worn off, the group began smiling.
"Thank you for trusting us." Mike smiled, walking over to give her shoulder a squeezr with his non bloody hand.
Eddie smiled sadly over at her, "Sorry you had to hold it in so long.. and sorry for freaking out a few weeks ago."
"It's okay, Eddie."
Beverly walked over and joined hands with Maya, "so am I."
"Two gays in one group? You can't get this shit anywhere else, folks."
"Beep, beep, Richie."
"Wait, so are you two-" Ben began, being cut off by Beverly's nod.
"Yeah, we're together."
Maya and Beverly answered any questions the group had, before Stan mentioned he had to leave.
"I gotta go. I hate you." Stan stated, before laughing with the group. He began walking away after he gave Maya a quick hug.
One by one the rest of the Loser's began to leave the small circle.
"See ya later, Bev." Maya whispered, planting a kiss on her cheek.
"Bye, Mys."
