high school sweethearts, line up

A bank robbery.

Charity just had to be stuck at a bank robbery.

He was just doing his own business when guys clad in black ninja gear burst in and put the whole place in lockdown.

Now, he and several other people were barricaded in a huge safe that was filled with gold in amounts that were more than enough to end world hunger twice. This was ridiculous.

There was a toddler crying somewhere near the pile of gold bars. Charity wanted to comfort her. She was separated from her parents, it seemed.

Just as he decided to move, the vault door swung open.

"Everybody freeze!" the person on the front yelled.

Then they froze at the sight of Charity.

One of the people carefully lifted a walkie-talkie, whispered furiously, then dropped it. "Back off," they said clearly. "Abort mission."

Everyone in ninja attire obliged.

The next few hours passed by like a blur. Everyone thanked Charity and questioned him, the works, and he answered to the best of his abilities, but only one question was on his mind: Why did they back off when they see me?

He went home with that thought still nagging him.

Charity's mind would not allow him to think of other things. Fed up with this, he picked up his phone as a call from Kindness came in. He accepted the call.

"Charity! Are you okay? I heard you were caught up at that bank robbery!" Kindness' worried voice asked.

"Hi, Kindness," he replied. "I'm shaken up, but otherwise I'm completely fine."

His elder sister exhaled. "Oh, thank god!" she said.

"I have a question," Charity said, knowing her sister has broad connections, thanks to her boyfriend. "Something weird happened to me."

"Really?" Kindness asked, immediately worried again. "Please tell me what it is."

Charity explained everything that happened.

Before Kindness could react, her boyfriend's voice—Envy—rang out. "Haven't you heard? The robbers are from Felis' Fortune, which is a crime syndicate Greed is the leader of. Tell Charity to go visit his highschool sweetheart."

Tell Charity to go visit his highschool sweetheart.

He felt like someone had just struck him with lightning.

"Envy!" Kindness chided. "You can't just do that!"

"I just did," Envy said matter-of-factly.

Charity could still hear the lovers' conversation. But he wasn't listening.

It was Greed's doing.
