Chapter Eighteen:
My Girl, My Girl!

Primrose hummed, flipping her coin and looking up at the dark sky as Stanley awkwardly drummed his fingers against the steering wheel. "Okay, so, I have a question."
"Yes, my handsome Stanley?" Primrose hummed, tucking a piece of curled hair behind her ear. "What is it?"
"Well, one, did you enjoy dinner?" He joked.
Primrose nodded quickly, a grim forming on her face. "Tails, and yes I did."
"Cool, cool.. Okay, two. What's your deepest, darkest secret?" Stanley asked, reaching into his jacket pocket and pulling out a small metal container. "Like, it could be anything. For instance, have you ever killed anyone?"
Primrose paused, raising her finger to her chin and humming as she slipped her coin into the back of her shoe. "My deepest darkest secret? Hm.."
"Oh, come on. There has to be something." Stanley said, raising the lit joint to rest between his lips. "Like, do you have any zits in weird places?"
"No.. No zits.. No murder.." Primrose shook her head, "I lost my virginity at my ex-boyfriend's dad's birthday party... in a closet."
Stanley choked on his saliva. Primrose giggled, looking over at him and plucking the joint from his fingers. "Yes. In a closet."
"Wait.. I thought you were a virgin!" Stanley sputtered, his face changing into a deep shade of crimson as he watched her close her eyes and inhale.
Primrose shrugged, handing the boy the joint back. "Nope."
Stanley blinked slowly, "Uh.. Right, right. Yeah, totally. Right. Of course, yes, right."
Primrose giggled, resting her hand against his jaw and pressing her lips against his. "Let's go dance, shall we, my handsome Stanley?"
"We-We.. We shall."

Primrose quietly sung along to the music and Stanley rested his hands on her hips. "I-Is this okay?"
Primrose nodded silently, resting her head against Stanley's chest as she let her eyes fall shut, enjoying the moment she shared with him. "Fallen leaves in the night.."
Stanley smiled, holding the girl close as she sang along to the music playing over the speakers. "S-So.. I was thinking, um, just a heads up, by the way, y-you can totally-totally say no! I-I'd understand completely, ha, ha.. Anyways, so, um, I guess I should just ask, right? Right, yeah, okay.. Would you maybe, I don't know, want to like, go out, like on a date? Maybe?"
Primrose grinned, her heart skipping a beat as she pulled her head from his chest and looked up at him. "I'd love to, my handsome Stanley."
A relieved laugh left his lips as he looked up at the ceiling, "Re-Really? Oh, shit.. I thought I was gonna pass out."
Primrose let a giggle slip past her lips, "
"I-I.. wow." Stanley's voice was shocked as he watched her cheeks dust pink. "That went better than expected."
"I'm gonna go get us some punch, just wait on the bleachers for me. Okay, my handsome Stanley?" Primrose smiled, brushing her fingers along his jawline. "I'll be right back."
Stanley nodded to himself, slipping his sunglasses onto his face as he bowed, "Until we meet again, m'lady."
Primrose giggled as she walked over to the punch table, "My lovely Dina! You look as lovely as ever."
Dina grinned, waving at her. "Primrose! I love your dress.. and I see you came here with Stan?"
Primrose blushed, bringing her lip in between her teeth to hide an oncoming grin. "Yeah.. It's.. he's just so amazing, you know? I've never met anyone like him before.. It's only been a few months, but.. He's so different."
"In the bowling alley, right?" Dina pointed at her, taking a sip from her cup. "When was that?"
Primrose nodded, looking over at her now boyfriend, a grin forming on her face when she saw him awkwardly seat himself on the bleachers. "It was January 21st of this year."
"Oh, I didn't expect you to actually know the date." Dina laughed, crossing her arms as she handed Primrose a cupcake. "Like exactly-"
"I remember all the dates that I meet my friends on." Primrose bit into the cupcake, wiping the chocolate frosting from her nose. She tossed the trash into the garbage can and poured the punch into two red solo cups. "I met you July 16th last year, and I met Sydney July 29th because you insisted we'd get along so well. And you were right, my lovely Dina."
Dina grinned, her eyes trailing from Primrose to the bleachers behind her, her smile brightening when her eyes landed on Sydney. A dreamy sigh left Primrose's red tinted lips as she watched Stanley. Dina looked over at the girl, who held a lovesick grin on her face. "You can go over now if you want, I won't keep you anymore."
Primrose glanced over at her, her smile widening as she nodded. "Save me a dance, my lovely Dina."
Dina nodded her head as she watched Primrose disappear into the crowd and walk up the bleachers, being careful not to spill the two drinks she held. Stanley looked up, his face brightening when he saw his girlfriend seat herself beside him. "Here you go, my handsome Stanley."
"Thanks." Stanley grinned, taking the cup from her hand. Primrose tilted her head, waving when she saw Sydney approaching. "Who are you waving at? Oh.. her."
Stanley sighed, looking down at the punch in his cup as Sydney climbed the bleachers. Primrose hummed quietly along with the song, reaching into her blue heel and pulling the coin out. Sydney cleared her throat as she awkwardly sat down next to Stanley. Her eyes trailed down the lights as she swayed to the beat of the music.
"Best theater in town, huh?" Sydney asked awkwardly, drumming her fingers on the wooden bleachers.
"I'm pretty sure you specifically said you weren't coming to this." Stanley said pointedly, tearing his eyes from the punch to look at her.
"I wasn't." Sydney nodded slowly, awkwardly pursing her lips as the tensions surrounding them weighed her down.
"Well, aren't you worried about being followed?"
"Or eaten alive by the Glorbanogs?" Primrose pulled her gaze away from the dance to look at her friend.
"No one's following me, Stan. And don't worry Prim, I won't let the Glorbanogs eat me... It-It was all in my head." Sydney swallowed awkwardly. "I should've told you guys I was coming."
Stanley nodded awkwardly, secretly wanting to be left alone with Primrose so he could talk to her. "Right.. So, who'd you come here with, anyway?"
"Dina." Sydney answered, the same grin that Dina had when she saw her forming on her face as she watched the girl at the punch table.
"Well.. does she know about you?" Stanley gulped as Primrose rested her head on his shoulder.
"Does she know about me?" Sydney repeated, "In what way?"
"Well.. that you're a superhero."
A smile formed on the girl's face, "Right.. Right. No, you guys are the only ones."
"Cool." Stanley nodded, "Guess that means we're special, right, Prim?"
"You're already special, my handsome Stanley." Primrose answered. "Heads."
"Also, I'm not a sup-"
"Just.. Just give us this one thing. Please?" Stanley chuckled, moving his hand to rest on Primrose's knee. Sydney paused, glancing down at his hand and nodding slowly.
"Thank you, my sweet Sydney."
Sydney held both her hands out, indicating she wanted both of them to join her, "Come on."
Stanley and Primrose glanced at each other, grins forming on each of their faces as Stanley slipped his hand into hers. He interlocked his fingers with Primrose's as the trio walked down the bleachers. Primrose sighed happily, looking up at her boyfriend. "You're so pretty, you know that?"
Stanley blushed, looking down at his feet as they hit the gymnasium floor. "Than-Thanks.. You-You.. You're just so.. so wow."
"Stan!" Dina greeted, waving to the boy as they passed.
"Dina! You look.. You look like a Christmas tree." Stanley said as he tightened his grip on Primrose's hand.
"Thanks, dude."
"Uh-huh.." Stanley laughed awkwardly, looking into the crowd. "Shit. Whitaker's still looking at us."
"It's probably the most exciting thing that's happened in his entire life." Sydney joked.
Stanley shrugged, "I don't know, guys.. I mean, we're wanted criminals. Why are we out here in the open? Exposed. First rule of the heist is split the loot and split the fuck up, right?"
"Except for Bonnie and Clyde." Primrose hummed, "AKA.. us. How did that end again?"
"Well, what loot? All we did was disrespect this fine institution." Dina said sarcastically with a laugh.
"And disrespect ourselves." Stanley looked up in confusion when the song changed.
"You okay, my handsome Stanley?" Primrose asked, tilting her head.
"Oh, yeah. But.. oh, no. On principle, I just.. I can't. Sorry this playlist is all over the map. I'll.. We'll be back." Stanley said, pulling Primrose along with him as he left.
Stanley leaned on the DJ booth, "Hey, man.. Can I request a song? You heard of Bloodwitch?"
"No. Never." The man shook his head. "Sorry."
"What do you mean you've never heard of Bloodwitch?" Stanley said in shock.
The man shrugged, "I mean-
"Well.. Can you play My Girl?" He asked, "By The Temptations?"
Primrose's grinned brightened as she looked up at Stanley. The DJ shrugged, "All right. Sure. I guess."
Primrose grinned, thanking the man as she pulled Stanley into the crowd. She slipped her arms around his neck, her heart leaping when he rested his hands on her hips.
"What?" He laughed nervously as My Girl began playing over the speakers. "Yo-You've been.. staring at me."
Primrose nodded slowly, "I-I know.. I'm just admiring.. Thanking Aphrodite and Lady Tyche.."
He tilted his head, "Why?"
"Because.. you." Primrose answered, glancing down at her feet. "And I'm so lucky to have my friends still in my life. So many people don't have that luxury, and I'm just glad I do."
Stanley smiled, leaning down at pressing his lips against hers. "I'm lucky, too."
"All right, ladies and gentlemen! If I may have your attention.. Stop talking, look up here, please." Primrose tore her gaze from Stanley's face and looked towards the stage where a teacher stood. "It is my privilege to introduce your homecoming king and queen, Jeff Butters and Julie Frasheski!"
Primrose cheered as the boy took the mic, "What up, Westinghouse! Yeah! Where my boys at? Whoo! Where do I begin? I wanna thank my mom for meeting my dad-"
Primrose gasped, her eyebrows knitting together when Bradley Lewis rudely stole the mic from the boy. "Listen up!"
"Oh, no." Primrose murmered as she watched Bradley rudely push Jeff away.
"Give me a second. Give me a second!" The blond boy looked towards the audience, letting his eyes fall on Dina and Sydney. "I would like to take this moment to talk about something very important that affects everyone here. Sydney Novak!"
Primrose's heart dropped into her stomach as she turned her head, her gaze falling upon the clearly worried girl.
"Hey, Sydney. Raise your hand. Raise your hand! Give a wave so everybody can see you." Sydney shifted uncomfortably as the gazes of the surrounding students became set on her. "You see, what a lot of people don't know about Sydney here.. she is one hell of a writer."
"We-We should do something, right?" Primrose stammered, watching as Bradley pulled the diary from his letterman jacket. Fear flooded her body as she watched the boy jump off the stage and walk towards Sydney.
"You-You know.. It's funny. Because everyone is so quick to call me an asshole, but while I was downstairs banging Jenny Tuffield at Ricky's.. guess what Sydney was doing upstairs."
"Yea-Yeah." Stanley nodded quickly, "We should."
"She was kissing my girlfriend!" The crowd gasped around Primrose and Stanley as they quietly crept towards him. "Now, don't get me wrong. Chicks get drunk, they make out sometimes, and I'm all for it, but.. being a full on dyke.. That's a whole other ball game."
Rage flooded Primrose's body as she heard the word. "Hit him."
"Wha-"
"I said hit him." Primrose repeated, her fists clenched at her side as she set her glare on him. She didn't think she had ever been angry like this before. But when someone disrespected her friend, and used a word like that to do it, all she could see was red.
"I mean.. Syd is fucking in love with Dina." Brad taunted, flipping through the pages of the diary, "Page after page.. It's absolutely pathetic."
"Oh, shut up, Brad!" Dina shouted, glaring at her ex-boyfriend.
"And, my God! Don't even get me started with the daddy issues on this one. Everyone in her life thinks she's a piece of shit.. and I mean everyone!"
"I don't!" Primrose shouted, "You're the asshole!"
"And you're a schizoid." Bradley fired back.
"Hey, man! Leave them alone!" Stanley defended, stepping past Primrose. The girl gasped, stumbling back when Stanley's body fell to the ground after Bradley's fist connected with his face.
"Hey!" The girl shouted, dropping to her knees beside her boyfriend. She cradled his head in her hands, "Hey, sh, sh.. Wake up, please?"
"But that.. is not even the weirdest thing about Sydney Novak." Bradley continued, "Get this. Sydney claims that she has-"
A yelp left Primrose's lips as she became covered in warm blood. She looked up from Stanley's face, her heart stopping when she saw a headlesss Brad laying on the floor, blood spurting from where his head used to be. A scream left her lips as she stared at his corpse in the center of the gym.
Stanley shot up at the sound, knitting his eyebrows together when he saw the now empty gym. "What? What hap..."
He followed the direction of Primrose's eyes, his blood running cold when his eyes landed on Bradley's dead body. "Holy shit!"
Primrose tore her eyes from the body, looking down at her now ruined dress. Blood splattered against the fabric, most likely staining it. The sheer fabric around her shoulders stuck to her like a second skin as the sticky red liquid cemented itself to her face and body.
Tears formed in her eyes as she began mumbling the names of the gods and goddesses under her breath. She reached up, raking her hands through her hair and gripping the roots as tears began rolling down her cheeks. "A-Aph.. Aphro.. Apo.. Art-"
Stanley shakily stood up, leaning down and pulling Primrose to her feet. "Look.. Oh, god, Prim! Look at me. Do-Don't look at him.."
Primrose reluctantly pulled her eyes from the dress and looked back towards the body, tears began to flow down her face and her throat felt like it was closing in on her. Her legs felt like jelly as Stanley pulled her out of the gym. "Co-Come on.. We-We have.. We've gotta go."
The cold air nipped at her face as the school doors slammed shut behind her. She blinked slowly, watching as the cars dispersed from the parking lot rapidly until there were none left.
"Prim.." Stanley said shakily, "I'm gonna take you home.. Okay? And-And I can help you clean up."
Primrose stared ahead, blinking slowly as she reached up and pulled her glass butterfly hairpin from her hair. She looked down at it, closing her hand around it as tears dripped onto her fingers.
"And-And we can get coffee, after." Primrose sniffled, reaching up and wiping the blood from her face as she looked over at her boyfriend. "And then we can go find.. Find Sydney. Okay?"
Primrose nodded shakily, letting her body to fall into his arms. Stanley stumbled back into the brick wall, wrapping his arms around her waist as she began to cry.
"It'll all be okay, Primrose. It'll all be okay." Stanley whispered in her ear, planting a kiss against her temple, "I promise."
