pour out a cup worthy of my time

"hello and welcome to heartwarming café, what can i get you today? our drink of the week is the love potion, you'll get a free croissant with it, would you like one?" kindness asked, well, kindly, to the customer.

the customer glanced at the menu. "i... uh... black coffee. i'll have a black coffee."

"is that all?" she said, smiling.

"yes..."

"it'll be four dollars, can i have your name?"

"...dave?"

"dave." kindness popped open a sharpie marker. everyone could smell the sharp tang of the ink, though kindness was unbothered. she scribbled the name on a plastic cup. "that's a nice name. please wait until your name is called, thank you!"

envy was eavesdropping as he took a box of black powder off the shelf. he couldn't even blame the customer for going for the black coffee, he was a typical guy and he had probably been lured in by lust.

also, nobody would actually order a drink called "love potion." unless they're (a saint of) patience or kindness.

sometimes he didn't even want to make the drinks. they're all pink, even the black coffee, courtesy to patience who named the café and the menu. hell knows why rion (it was the pride side, too) let him do that.

he scooped out some of the supposed coffee powder (why do we even use powders?) into the plastic cup. there was an imprint of patience's mini form on the front.

whose idea was it to use a coffee shop as a disguise and have the spirits with child mini forms work at the front, anyway? gluttony is better at this, envy thought.

slowly, he moved to the water dispenser and put the cup under the hot water option, then pressed the button. hot water streamed from the tap into the cup, turning the black powder into a pink liquid.

magic, he thought sarcastically.

if only he had the innocence of a 14 year old (not my body's innocence, he'd lost it,). he'd believe it was magic.

the trickling of the water was almost hypnotic, but envy knew enough to press the button to stop the stream of hot water. he just stirred the pink liquid, then put a cap on. "dave," he called out. the man jerked out of his seat and hurried over to the counter. envy handed the drink over. "thank you, please come back soon," he said flatly.

nodding furiously, the man hurried out.

the small café is silent yet again.
