i'm not your party favor

Envy woke up at dawn.

The sun had barely risen, his curtains and door slightly opened. He had kept both tightly closed last night.

But, he didn't linger at those oddities. He knew what day it was. The alarm clock beside him confirmed the date—it was the 10th of November.

A day he dreaded.

It was the day he got this mortal body.

He'd recalled Kindness telling him that it was his birthday. Of course, he knew what a birthday was—he just didn't know spirits have birthdays.

Kindness had smiled and told him that obviously they do. Envy doubted her, but just went along with it. At least he wouldn't participate in the human tradition of partying.

He sighed, running his fingers through his hair while checking the time. It's 4 AM. Envy knew he shouldn't be up this early.

But his body refused to go back to sleep, so he made his bed and walked downstairs, the stairs and hallways barely lit by the scarce amounts of sunlight.

He was just about to step foot on the top staircase when he heard hushed whispers and stifled giggles. As sharp as his mind usually was, currently his thoughts were still muddled with sleep.

So, he walked downstairs to Rion levitating Kindness with his skill to put up streamers.

"Hi," Envy said awkwardly upon realizing what he'd walked into.

Cowardice, Kindness, Rion, and then his mom turned around at the same time, freezing in whatever action they were doing.

"Hi," Kindness said weakly, dropping her left arm to wave, causing the streamers to drape over her head.

Envy noticed the lack of a cake on the table
