TO SAY THAT scarlett hale's life was all sunshine and rainbows is definitely not the correct category to put her life in. in fact, she herself couldn't recall a time where it was sunshine and rainbows.

FAMILY LIFE.

growing up, her family life was very different from her friends. her father peter hale, was a recovering alcoholic and she suffered underneath his wrath for countless of nights. and as recovering i mean as the last scarlett saw him he was doing better and healthier, to say the least.

her mother adalide hale, was.. well i'm not going to sugar code it—she was a supernatural being. some called it numerous of things, blood-sucking monster, killer, vampire. adalide hale had a title in beacon hills causing many others to avoid speaking to her, scared they would end up on the wrong side of her.

now, nobody had a clue that she was supernatural which brought fright to the town residents because they had no clue what she was capable of, let alone what a undercover vampire. although, scarlett's mother was a total daughters girl.
their bond strongly continued to grow throughout scarlett's teenage years. that was until her main priority changed quicker than scarlett could expect.

scarlett wasn't exactly the only child. she had a older brother, sebastian. sebastian entered his transformation into a werewolf around fifteen years old. at that time, scarlett was only 12.

her whole familys focus was mainly on sebastian, teaching him how to adapt to his new environment. as any other young girl, she felt alone, betrayed that her family prioritized her older brother so much to the point where she would adventure off late at night with scott and stiles.

to the point where nobody noticed if she was unwell because their lives newly revolved around sebastian. there were other family members who never forgot about her though. derek, laura and cora were the only ones who payed attention to her. who gave her a some what normal childhood without the supernatural bullshit she was born into. and of course, growing up with a extremely favorited brother, she loathed to dislike him.

she didn't necessarily hate him, she just disliked what she couldn't have growing up. because in reality, he threw his favoritism back in her face every chance he got.

TRAUMA.

now, when i say had a mother, had a father and so on and so fourth. i mean past tense, of course. in 2004, the hale family suffered a tragedy scarlett never thinks she would ever recover from.

scarlett was playing with her cousin, cora when peter and laura came barging in, scooping them up in there arms. she didn't remember much given she was very young at the time, only bits and pieces. she remembered how peter threw her out of the burning house into her cousins arms, sacrificing himself.

she remembered the frightening screams from her family members. she remembered watching her brother and mother burning alive. even if she didn't necessarily like them, it was still her family. her brother and mother, she wasn't completely heartless.

from that day on, scarlett remained under derek and laura's authority, being the only survivors and the only ones left to take care of their like a sister.

scarlett never fully healed from the traumatic experience she and her cousins endured, it still haunts her brain. but she knew she had derek and laura to protect her. they were there for it all. the nightmares, derek would sleep with her whenever they occurred.

the time where she was confused on if she liked one of her friends or not, laura would always help her navigate and help her with her feelings. the first time she ever killed somebody and activated her werewolf side, derek was there to teach her control and clean up her messes, always the one to help her transformation. sure, laura helped her a lot of times, but derek was always there. he did what sebastian didn't.

THE STRONGEST POTENTIAL SUPERNTRAUL BEING.

although, unlike scarlett who thought that she was a regular species like her father, derek knew deeper than that. having learned from his family, scarlett was different then then rest of them.

she isn't a werewolf, well she is until she activates her other side. scarlett is a tribrid. it was rather confusing to say the least, especially to derek. but it did make somewhat of logical sense. adalide was a vampire, a ordinary creature. peter was a werewolf, also a ordinary creature.

but adaides mother who was long ago deceased before scarlett was born, was a heretic, vampire and witch. the whole family history of the hales is extremely confusing. but somehow, it all passed down to scarlett making her all three, vampire, witch and werewolf.

months ago, scarlett was well aware of being a werewolf. but in that same month, she discovered her witch side after she turned back to her original form after a full moon. how exactly?

well, in order for her to be able to perform witchcraft, she needed to kill a supernatural creature that held magic. surely it sounds really weird, but all creatures have magic. so, obvious to anyone she hunted while in wolf form, she killed a creature who held enough magic for her to activate her other side.

the side that derek and talia knew she would activate eventually. when scarlett turned back into human, it didn't go unnoticed that she activated her witch side after derek noticed her eyes practically glowing blue.

and not just the, ' when you kill a innocent, the eyes turn a bright shade of ocean blue, ' kind of thing. her eyes were so bright that she lit up the entire room with the brightest blue he has ever seen.

as for being a witch and a werewolf at fifteen, she had no idea how to deal with it and channel her thoughts. she went completely haywire.

causing fires, shakes, natural disasters. she didn't know how to control it. luckily, derek was there for her while talia went out, looking for herbs in near by gardens. they taught her how to self control, only to use her magic in the right causes. and yes, she still has difficulty controlling her witch side, but derek was always right by her side helping her deal with it.

and unfortunately, she still has a vampire side. the side she never knew she had. so, in order to activate her vampire side and though it sounded rather morbid, she needed to die at the hands of a vampire, or at least have vampire blood in her system and then die of a natural death. now, given that adalide was dead and doubts that she would ever come back and turn her, derek and laura didn't necessarily have any concerns or fears of her activating the one side that's keeping her from destructing everything around her and going completely insane.

but they still had no thought as to what else could be out in beacon hills. sure, they knew wolves still pretty much existed but they didn't know about vampires or other species that could potentially be out to get scarlett.

FRIENDS.

aside from the fact scarlett is a supernatrual being just like the rest of her family, scarlett had friends. well, key word, had.

growing up, she was well known in school. being a trio with scott and stiles helped a little since everyone called them the nerdy duo so when she started hanging out with them, every fifth grader wondered why. she did have other friends that weren't scott and stiles, she had a few actually. that was until her mother was said to have a threatening title and everyone's parents warned them to stay away from her. so some did, but some stayed. and as you may have guessed, it didn't last long until it went around saying scarlett hale was cursed after her house caught on fire—taking out her family members.

and all while tragedy struck her, taking go her out completely and leaving her hopeless and in despair, scott and stiles were there to help her through it all. scott and his mother melissa  offering for scarlett to stay at his place, stiles and his father doing everything they can to get the young girl back to her joyful self again. the four have known her for such a long time, they were destined to get her back. and they succeeded, at least, they thought they did for a while.

it was known that scott and stiles were her best friends. her only friends. they knew everything about each other, knew everything about scarlett. well, the knew everything except from the fact she's a supernatural creature. she only keeps the secret from them to protect them, for the own benefit. if someone were to go after them as leverage, she would hold tremendous guilt. and knowing her two bestfriends, they don't know when to stop asking questions and hurling their way into everything.

many things came with being a hale, but one thing that nobody really talks about is how the name is designed to be cursed. and scarlett hales life was just that.
