Chapter Two:
Awkward Encounters At Eddie's Place

"So, uh, the barrens, huh?" Felicity asked, riding her bike around Stan. The boy simply rolled his eyes at the southern guy's antics. "Listen, I don't mean to, you know, judge ya'll or whatever, but, like, that place smells like shit."

"Probably because it is shit, babe." Richie commented, his pink Hawaiian shirt blowing in the summer breeze behind him. "Lots and lots and lots of shit. It's almost pure shit! I wonder if I'll find my shit. That'd be fun."

"Okay, Richie, I'm judging your fun. That is disgusting." Felicity pointed at him, "Not you, though." She pointed at the other three boys.

"Who even invited you?" Richie scoffed, "You're mean. She's mean, guys."

"Bill did." Felicity snapped back, squinting at the trash talking boy.

"I don't know why!" Richie bit back, raising his hand to push up his glasses. "You're mean!"

"Because he felt sorry for me." Felicity blurted, her face going red seconds after. She hadn't meant to say that.

Stan and Eddie shared a look, both knowing Felicity didn't mean to say the last part. They could tell by the look on her face.

Bill bit his lip, unsure on what to say to her.  "I-I didn't feel s-so-so-sorry for you. I invited you b-b-be-because you're c-co-co-cool."

Felicity shrugged it off, pretending as if she had never said anything about it in the first place.

"We have to make a pit stop at my place, first." Eddie said interrupting the conversation, briefly glancing back at her, "Pick up some things."

Felicity nodded, her long golden hair blowing in the wind. Richie continued to make comments about Felicity.

No one liked that. But it made Felicity happy. She liked that they just moved on from what she had blurted out.

They took a right onto Eddie's street, pulling up to the first house on the left.

"You, uh, you gotta stay out here. My mom'll freak if I bring a girl in." Eddie explained softly, "But, uh, someone can stay with you out here."

"I'll do it." Stan offered, "We can start on the project."

Felicity smiled at the curly haired boy,  "Thanks, Stanley the manley."

"Don't-dont call me that." Stan groaned, looking away from the girl.

"Alrighty, well, we'll only be gone for like five minutes." Richie said, "That means no fucking. Don't wanna see that shit. Unless, Felicity-"

"Nope."

"Worth a shot." He sighed out, following Bill into Eddie's house.

An awkward silence fell over Stan and Felicity as she sat herself down on the steps.

She pulled her sketch book out of her bag and began flipping through the pages. Stan moved to sit next to her, silently looking at the pictures she had drawn. Felicity could practically feel him breathing.

"That one's really good." He said, reaching forward and stopping her from flipping to the next page.

"Oh-Oh, uh, thanks, thank you." Felicity stuttered, turning her head to face the boy.

At the realization of there closeness, she cleared her throat and scooted back. "Um, do you still wanna start the sketch today? We can do it tomorrow instesd.."

Stan nodded, "Yeah, tomorrow is good."

Felicity nodded, "You can come to mine.. but, uh, please don't mind it. It's not nearly as nice or fancy as your house must be.."

"What?" His eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "what does that mean?"

"Well, you're filthy rich, right?" She began nervously drumming her fingers against her bare thigh, a thing that had always calmed her down.

Stan scoffed, rolling his eyes, "Pfft, no."

"Oh.. well, I just figured you were.. you look filthy rich.." She shrugged, suddenly feeling bad for making assumptions about him.

"Is that a compliment or an insult?" He rose his eyebrow and leaned forward, his elbows

Smiling with a roll of her eyes Felicity spoke, "Take it as whatever you want, hun."

Awkard silence once again over took them as they sat next to each other, awkwardly looking around at their surroundings.

Stan had been there plenty of times, nothing was different this time.

However, Felicity had never been there before, so everything was new. She took in the tree by the mailbox, and how the lawn was slightly unkempt.

She chalked it up to both Mrs. Kaspbrak and Eddie being germaphobes.

"So-" Stan started, but he was interrupted by the door opening. There stood Bill, Eddie, and Richie.

Felicity heard a woman's voice, she figured it was Eddie's mom, and Eddie groaned, walking off to see her.

"Do you want one from me, too, Mrs. K?" Richie began laughing, but when Eddie shoved him out the door and slammed it behind him the laughter only increased.

"Sorry, mommy!" He shouted.

Felicity giggled, clearing her throat as Eddie glared at her.

"Right, sorry, Eddie." She shrugged, mounting her bike, "So, off to the barrens?"

Bill nodded in confirmation, mounting his bike. "T-To the ba-ba-bar-bar-barrens."

Eddie, Stan, and finally Richie all mounted their bikes. Then, the group of five was off.

Richie's comments continued, but this time, much worse.

"Richie! Jesus, this is why girls won't talk to us." Eddie groaned, rolling his eyes.

"Well, I'm a girl." Felicity pointed out.

"Thanks, captain obviously."

"It's captain obvious, dude, not captain obviously." Felicity corrected, blinking the wind out of her eyes.

"Whatever.. loser." Richie muttered. Felicity decided not to comment on this, instead letting silence over take them.

No one spoke, except for the ocean direction from Bill and comment from  Richie or Stan.

"Hope you like swimmin' around in shitty water, cause that's what's gonna happen." Richie said, slipping an arm around Felicity.

She rolled her eyes, "Dude, gross. I'm not doing that."

She shrugged her shoulders, causing his arm to fall off.

"Aw, why not? Could be fun!" He gently shoved her, causing her to stumble and fall over.

Because they were walking down a hill, this ended up with her toppling down the hill. Richie's jaw dropped as he began cursing loudly, sputtering out apologies.

A loud splashing sound was heard, alerting the other three.

Felicity's head popped out of the water as she dragged herself to shore. She began coughing violently, earning the concerns of the four boys.

"What the fuck, Richie?"
