Hello, my lovely readers! This is your author, writer_tee and I'm back after a 5-day break, which was really such a short break, for my exams, and they were completed, so I'm back again.
Well, I'm not a good performer in my exams. My readers will be like, *Just like your updates.
Me:
Just joking
You guys reacting to my not-so-funny joke, be like
Okay, enough fun, Tee. Get back to the topic, you idiot. Now focus
So, as we can see, the title of today's chapter is "Thoughts." As I mentioned in the previous chapter, I would share my onion-like opinions, which would hurt some writers just like cutting onions. I apologise in advance if this has hurt your feelings.
Note: There is no hatred for the writers in this chapter, nor for the storylines and concepts they use. Those who enjoy reading this chapter can read it, but those who do not want to can skip it even if it's boring and wait for updates.
Now let us get into my onions. Opps Opinions,
So, as I mentioned in the previous chapter, some concepts are beautiful, such as evergreen, while others are overused and cliched. I am not offending those concepts because I use some of them, but others, as I mentioned, are widely used.
There are some tropes that will be explained at last:
1. Step-brother or sister (including the Mafia trope)
2. Arrange, force, or contract marriage
3. Rude/Cold/Psycho/CEO/Professor Husband
4. The Mafia sold out
The list may appear short, but I kept it short because 2, 3, and 4 share common words, such as "marriage" and "husband."
Now is the time for reasons.
First in the list Step-brother/sister I am not saying I despise step-brothers or sisters; I just hate the romanticism between them. Why should I like it? Wake up, guys; this is a brother-sister relationship. Whether they are blood related or not, they are supposed to be siblings, even if they are stepsisters. It is very inappropriate.
There comes some random dude who will be saying, "They both were in love at first, but they haven't confessed to each other, but their parents got married, and now they are stepsiblings. It's not their fault." Sorry, but that's just not how it works. Let's respect the bond of siblinghood, regardless of blood relation.
If the fault is with the parents who made the decision to get married, not the stepsiblings, I say no, it's not their fault. Look when a male lead and female lead love each other and stare at each other like there's no tomorrow, but they don't confess to each other. It's just frustrating to watch or read. And now, making them step siblings out of it just makes it even more uncomfortable.
Here, the fault is with the writers of the story, not the characters themselves. It's important to remember that these are fictional relationships created for entertainment purposes. But they forget this point: their book or show is meant to entertain and not make the audience cringe with uncomfortable plot twists. Instead, they should focus on creating a compelling story that keeps viewers or readers engaged.
Next on the list is arranged / forced marriage, a tired and overused trope that should be retired for good. Okay, maybe not retired completely, but definitely used sparingly and with more nuance in future storytelling. I don't say I hate them; I dislike them from the time I start reading until the moment they inevitably fall in love.
Instead of relying on clichés, writers should strive to bring fresh and original ideas to their work. Now a days, even fanfiction writers are making their own concepts and new theories for the characters they love. Let's make them, guys. Let's break these clichés and create something truly unique.
Next, the most cringe-worthy torpes, Rude/Cold/Psycho/CEO/Professor Husband, I sold to the mafia .
These are the tropes that I hated from the start of my reading of fanfiction. You know, when I see a title, like when I was a newbie to reading fanfiction, I was like, Okay, so he will be a cold and rude husband or CEO or mafia or professor later, he will chat about feelings for her, and they will end up together, even though he was initially portrayed as a jerk. I was okay about that.
But this type of story about these so-called rude, cold, bossy professors, CEOs, and mafia husbands knowing that they are in love with the female protagonist when she is being friendly in their terms with other men . . . What on the Andaman Nicobar Island is this?
And this is what is called a tired and overused trope in romantic fiction. It's time for some fresh and original storytelling that doesn't rely on outdated stereotypes.
And also, this "I sold to the mafia" thing needs to be retired; it's been done to death. I'm really done with this trope. I'm glad I see these tropes less, or maybe I haven't read them these days.
Why don't I like them?
Yes, the first thing is probably because they are so overused and familiar. Next, most of them were just written for fun, but you know some of them want reads even if they're written for fun. Next, when it comes to writing style and povs, there are some that are just not good.
I'm sorry, but it's quite cringe-worthy to read some of these stories. Sorry for using cringy, but I couldn't find a more professional and decent word for an alternate of cringe.
I first advise readers who want to write on these tropes not to read fanfictions on these topics because most of them might be started for fun, plus they give you the idea that you can use the word "cringeworthy" instead .
And starting writers, if you are working on these tropes, just try to put together a good vocabulary, though English isn't your first language. At least we might speak some basic English, so just try to use them and learn English words and phrases, which would help you understand them, which also might help your book with these tropes in a more sophisticated and refined manner.
Here, I'm not mentioning grammar. I'm talking about word choice and expressions that can elevate your writing to a new level of quality. And also character sketches; I'll be talking about them next.
Really, writing is all about expressing your thoughts not just in a clear and concise manner but also in a way that captivates and engages your readers. So just keep your thoughts in the story, not in these tropes. I'm not saying it's wrong; I'm trying to convey that. Just bring out your creative ideas and unique perspectives to make your writing stand out.
There are some tropes that I haven't mentioned, but don't worry; I will also mention them in further chapters. Let's meet in the next chapter, where we will be discussing the character sketches and development, just as I mentioned above.
See ya✨✨
