I

She sat in her room, looking out of the window. She didn't find it. She didn't find the pendant. She slowly stood up and went downstairs. As usual, she was alone at home. But now she felt lonelier. Since she lost her mother. Serena went to the kitchen, thinking about making something sweet. Maybe it could lighten her mood. She started mixing the batter when she heard a beeping noise from her phone. She went to check on it and saw a notification.

"Message from Dawn." She mumbled to herself as she opened to see her text.

Dawnie: Hey Sere! Guess what?

Sere: What?

Dawnie: Still grumpy :<

Sere: Not grumpy, sad

Dawnie: Sorry Sere, but I got nothing. I even peeked around in May and Misty's lockers but all I found was JB's pics and Ash's pics

Serena doesn't reply for a while.

May and Misty! I guess it should have been obvious that they would have Ash all over their locker!

Dawnie: Oops! Not should have said that...

Sere: Say D, who's pics were more; Ash or JB

Dawnie: You better not know...

Sere: ...Spill

Dawnie: Ash..

Well that was more than just expected!

Serena slopped down onto the couch and stared at the screen for a while.

Ash, Ash, ASH!! That's all they see. If they have pics of JB, then why Ash? They should be happy with JB, cause I don't mind seeing JB with them but Ash?! Seriously?? I mean Ash deserves so much better that those- but I am not better than them? Am I? I mean, I am clumsy and shy and irresponsible. I even lost my pen-

And Serena further sank into depression. It just wouldn't end for her. All those mixed emotions- guilt, fear, sadness, rejection.

As she continued to sulk, she didn't notice that she had received 15 new notifications and 3 missed calls. All from Dawn.

Serena just read the last two texts she sent.

Dawnie: SERE!!! If u don't reply now I will assume you dead! And remember, I am not gonna be there for your funeral!! >I<

Serena laughed at this and turned to read the next one.

Dawnie: Hey, I am not serious. I promise to attend your funeral but please, Sere, you are scaring me! Just one text will do. But please reply. I am worried.

Serena knew it the instant she read the text that Dawn wasn't joking. Dawn had a habit of using any one emoji in every text and she surely would use one. And this time, she didn't. This meant that Dawn was serious. Serena smiled softly to herself as she replied.

Sere: Just lost again

Not a second passed and Dawn's reply came.

Dawnie: Sureeeee~ ;-)

Sere: Why that long 'sure'?

Dawnie: I know where you were lost? ;-D

How did she come to know?

Sere: You would be a mind-reader if you could tell what I was thinking, even though you cannot see me right now...

Dawnie: That means, I AM a mind-reader 'cause you were lost in thoughts about...

Sere: About---?!

Dawnie: And why should I tell you? /_\

Sere: Suspense is killing me....spit it!!

Dawnie: HEY, first a 'spill' and and now a 'spit'! I am not a maniac!! :O

Sere: Says the person who always comes up with ridiculous ship name...

Dawnie: That's my job, jealous queen! -_-

Sere: Okay-okay! Geez!

Sere: Anyways, what's your predication mind-reader, Ms. Dawn?

Dawnie: Ash.. -_-

Am I so obvious, even through a screen?

Serena inspected her phone to see if there was any kind of gadget like a micro-camera or something.

Who knows, maybe Dawn put one?

Dawnie: There is no camera any where Sere, I just know you too well.. ;-]

She read me again?

Sere: Guess you do..

Dawnie: Hah! I know you better than you know yourself. <_<

Sere: Maybe..

Serena smiled. Dawn was the best thing that happened to her until now. She was there whenever she felt happy, sad. Dawn managed Serena. She taught Serena how to manage her emotions. Dawn was Serena's tutor during middle school. At that time, Serena had poor grades in History. She was about to give up, when one day, Dawn suddenly popped up at her doorstep and offered to be her tutor. Serena was in awe as she saw how carefully Dawn studied each and every fact and date in great detail. In fact, Serena couldn't believe it as to how that bubbly girl who came out of no where and offered to tutor her in the most casual and informal way, was so dedicated and determined to teach her. That was how they first met. And they became friends the next day. Serena's grades improved and she was for grateful to Dawn for what she did. Serena soon found out what Dawn wanted to be in life. An architect. That explained her outstanding performance in socials. Serena soon discovered the girl under that beautiful face. The bluenette was the daughter of a renowned architect. Her mother was working as an air hostess, so she met her mother occasionally. Dawn had a crush on- no one, which was kind of unbelievable as Serena always saw boys running around her. But she ignored them saying -'You are wayyyyyyy more important than them, blondie'. Dawn liked dancing and was pretty good at it but always shrugged away the idea of becoming a dancer. Dawn had this crazy habit of creating 'one-time pair' or 'one-true pair', OTP for short. She took one random girl and the tried to find a boy who suited her, look-wise and behavior-wise. Serena always wondered when Dawn would get a partner to complete her OTP of Dawn and that guy, but Dawn never showed interest in anyone. And this is how their friendship flourished.

Dawnie: Hey Sere, sorry but I gotta go! Mom's over here for a night, wouldn't wanna miss the chance..

There is that Dawn Serena knew about. Again no emoji. This meant she thought before typing anything.

Sere: No sweat Dawnie. Please say hi from me.

Dawnie: Oka! Sere, we will get your pendant...I am 100% sure!!!! ;-D

Sere: How can you be so sure?

Dawnie: Something tells me, you will get it soon.. <3

Sere: ?

Dawnie: Gotta rush, bye girly! ;-)

Sere: Bye

Dawn and her predictions...

Serena chuckled as she heard the doorbell ring.

Its just 5.30 pm. Dad never comes home early...so who is it then?

Serena kept her phone on the couch and opened the door, only to find a parcel at her doorstep. She looked around and then picked it up. It was labelled: For Serena Yvonne.

Serena took one final look around to see if she could find the person who left this but found none. She closed the door, not noticing a boy who was leaning against a tree, wearing a hoodie and pretending to be busy on his phone.

We will talk soon, Serena.

Serena went to her room and inspected the parcel carefully before taking a scissor and ripping it open. There were some books and a tiny, red velvet box. She looked at the items and found that they were her school books.

I must have left these at school.

She then took the velvet box and opened it. Her eyes widened as she gasped. She let the box fall out of her hand as she clasped her mouth with her hands to prevent herself from crying. She quickly recovered from her shock and quickly picked up the box, caressing it. She looked at the item inside and took it out. Her pendant.

She rummaged through the box to find a letter or note or something but instead found something written on the side of the box.

"Please never cry again. I love your smile."

She smiled a little and held up the pendant. The little piece of silver meant so much to her. Serena placed it carefully back into the red velvet box.

Whoever sent this is really sweet.

She kept the box in her bag, promising to herself not to lose it again. She went to her desk and was about to start homework when she remembered her phone was still downstairs. She skipped down the stairs, tripping here and there, and finally reached the couch, safely. She picked her phone to see two new notifications.

Unknown: Hey, got your stuff back?

Unknown: I think the books weren't really important, but the velvet box was.

Who is this?

Serena quickly typed a reply.

Sere: Thanks. But who are you?

A reply instantly popped on the screen.

Unknown: If you want, I can be your new friend.
