The scorching heat of a typical afternoon had made everyone miserable. Still, they work their best to catch up with their city, continually running busy, Nirvana.
Nobody comes here to stay except Pari and her followers, who also work here.
She lingered in this place for more than you and I will assume, beyond our counting limit, somewhere near eternity.
Being the founder head and ruler of the city, she owns the tallest fort including the rest of the city. Well, she is wealthy but does it show like so in her attire? Nah.
She carries herself in all shades of brown and black attire. Which is her aesthetic. No makeup on her glowing honey brown skin ever applied, simplicity adores her.
Pari's determination towards her job keeps her occupied all day and this afternoon is no different, in her highest chamber she has been working restlessly till now.
A set of big screens in the background for a large scale view of the city, some small screens for other means and a neatly organised working desk with her empty chair completed her working place.
The empty chair tilted, moving away from the desk as Pari made a seat for herself.
In the bright lighting her dark orbs darken with irritation on her tired face as she taps her fingers on the desk, maps open in her desktop as she struggles to locate the recent visitor. It only says northern river side which is a very brief info to convey.
Pari marked the given location leading her hands to a button, which buzzed outside after a push. The bulb outside her office gate lit up catching every employee's attention, including those golden eyes.
"I'll go check." He announced putting everyone back to their respective jobs.
His black scarf waves as he took big steps towards Pari's office yet so calmly looks on his face, the knob of the door twists as he attempts to open it, finally getting inside he greets Pari."Yes, mam. You called?"
"Hosu, lockdown the northern river side. Get everyone out of there, now!" Pari commands, strictly without looking up to meet Hosu's anxious gaze which wants to find out why but without questioning, Hosu nods, turning back on his heels to go out.
After a good minute Pari finally gets a hint of the exact location, she stood up in hurry grabbing her phone, dashing towards the door with her eyes fixed on a red marked area on the maps in her phone.
Her clogs making 'tak-tak' sound as she walks out, employees get up to greet as she already knew they will, without looking up she just motions her hand, gesturing them to continue their work as they did.
Pari headed out of the first hall and finally her gaze lifted up leaving her phone, vexed and fed up with this hide-and-seek.
After descending the stairs her eyes landed on Hosu's figure while he was talking to others, he heard Pari's clogs' sound which made him look in her way.
"You did what I asked for?" She asked, stepping towards him, earning a nod as he walked in her way too.
"Northern area is sealed but mam, we have a problem." He said, passing by Pari to reach the stairs behind.
"What's wrong?"
Pari looked back with a hint of the danger, she just couldn't let it out in words.
"A gas blast occurred in the same area."
Hosu stood near the lift motioning for Pari to come as she was right behind him, with 'lady first' rule the gentleman man let her in before getting inside too.
"A human activity." She whispered.
"I've sent our team already, they started the inquiry." Hosu informed making Pari frantic with concern.
"No. Get them out of there." Pari said panic-stricken as she met Hosu's helpless gaze."They are disconnected." He told her, making her more petrified as she clung to her heart.
"What no!? What if they saw his deeds."
Her mind threw her into panic while Hosu holded her shoulder to support her.
"They will not, they ain't that stupid. They know the rules, don't worry." He said to convert her goosebumps into something else but still it wasn't comforting her.
She was not reassured and wasn't even going to be calm before she get to see the past memories of the new visitor by herself.
Pari just took out her phone and asked for the location which Hosu gave her. They both were on their way in a mini elegant car with the a.c. still she kept gulping on each roaming thought she got.
"𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁." Pari hissed urgently as she roll down the windows to have an outer look of the environment. Her eyes shut when waves of thunderous gust splashed on her face.
"I'm trying." Hosu said in an unheard tone, keeping his words to himself, resulting in a sharp glare.
"Said something?" Pari asked, with a hint of confusion.
"Nothing, mam."
Hosu had his golden eyes attached with the path as he let out a fretful whisper while waves flew her hair towards Him, ticklishly touching his chin. He tilted his head to escape the unwanted tease.
Pari collected herself, sitting more comfortably in her seat.
"Nature is setting the mood, wow. Just wow." Pari taunts as her eyes catch the sight of dark clouds hovering over the marked area of the northern river side.
"He's not here to stay." Hosu comments, earning a nod from the female as she just sighs in defeat. "The more time went by, the more evil earth became."
Silence thickened the atmosphere with only the car's and air's noise audible.
Pari tie her hair in a bun, giving a relief to Hosu's attempts of getting away from it. Her hands shiver as she senses changing in the air. The scent of a burn and smoke can be easily detected by now.
"𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐝." Hosu said, catching a glimpse of Pari's brown orbs but before he could look away, a stroke of lightning went by Pari's side of the window to crash on a two storey house.
In the heat of the moment, Hosu stopped the car without any warning, mistakenly taking the car near the river on his side.
"Have you gone nuts!?" Pari ushered. Her rant- growl goes unnoticed by Hosu as she grasps the air with her wrenching heart.
Hosu's eyes widen and mind blank with a loud beep playing with his hearing senses. He blinks insensate, later gulping on a dry throat.
Pari calmed herself and shifted towards him holding his palm into her.
"Hosu, are you alright?" Her voice still didn't reach him but her touch did.
Hosu looked her way with tears brimming on the corner of golden eyes, with another blink they rolled down on each side. He gulps again looking around as he found the car a few inches away from the river.
"Calm down. Nothing happened." Pari empathizes, rubbing his palm to assure him that he's safe. With a nod he breathed normally as his iris rested lazily on her.
"Thank you. We should head out." Hosu opined, earning the empty feeling after Pari left his hand to work on her seatbelt.
He just mimicked her steps walking behind the female. No one captured their sight until they reached the burnt house.
"Why there's no one?"
"I-um. I don't know." Said soul is mystified at the same level as Pari, who questioned him. Pari took lazy steps towards the ablaze house after assigning Hosu to search for others.
"Do not com-" She wanted to warn him but he cut her off with a smile,"I know, mam."
Nodding back to him, Pari trots forward with an assurance. She had the perfect view of destruction which made her gulp.
"Nothing burns in here."
Pari reminds herself, touching the turned red metal of the entrance. She let herself loose to the heat as she felt it in the tip of softly sensitive fingers. She gasps to the burning sensation, taking a step back.
The dizziness when you don't eat hits her, making her legs quiver. Her eyes shut with some unfamiliar murmurs echoing in her head wanting her to open up to them.
"Sir, he's the owner of the building." She heard a man state, making her flicker her eyelashes in his direction. She met three men as she opened her eyes.
One, a normal hood wearing man in his late twenties and other two around same age but in a uniform which tells her that they are cops.
"Tell me in details about the renters. Everything you know." Says the tallest among them with a recorder in his hand as the normal citizen proceeds to tell him.
"They were not only renters, sir. We were very good-d friends." The man sniffs a reply, clearly he was crying for a long time.
The last one held his shoulder to support him as he suggested to neatly continue with the investigation, earning a nod from the owner.
He also nods to the other taller officer before he walks away passing through Pari.
The action made Pari spin to where he went but she didn't feel him yet she was able to see the difference in the areas.
There were no crackles of flames like before. Nothing is burning, instead.
The house was destroyed by intense heat.
"Alright, just answer my question...
......................Sir, it is necessary."
"Okay."
"How many families were living here?"
Pari was eyeing the place yet her mind was focusing on the ongoing conversation.
"Only one. I gave it to my friend, 𝗛𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗼𝗸."
"He used to live alone?" Asked the officer, making Pari's ears tilt towards them.
"𝗡𝗼, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻. 𝗦𝗶𝗿."
Hearing this the office walked aside to inform the search team,"There's also a man in there. Did you find him?"
A 'no' with some details came in reply, making him go back to the owner for further query.
Pari was all ears to their conversation but to the dismay of the situation, the familiar dizziness hit her back in a nick of time and she dropped down on her knees, yelping.
