Eventually we reach the Grubbs household and John B turns off the engine as I hop out. The boys follow behind me as I approach the house.
"Know what this house looks like?" JJ asks.
"Whoever lives here smokes too much weed" He answers himself.
"I don't know. I think it's cute" I hum, scanning the colourful residence.
As we get closer to the house I hear the sounds of yelling and loud clattering coming from inside.
"Bullshit!" A man's voice barks.
"Maybe we should come back. It's a little too soon" JJ suggests, grabbing my wrist.
"No, no, shut up. Shut up, JJ" John B snaps.
"Tell me where it is, or i'll fuck you up!" A man screams and I hear Lana gasping.
"I'll sink you in the fucking-" The mans voice is cut off when a loud crash echoes through the air and Lana lets out an ear piercing scream.
"You're hurting me!" She cries and I flinch, causing JJ to intertwine our fingers and give my hand a reassuring squeeze.
"I-" JJ starts to protest but he's cut off.
"Shut up. Come on" John B orders.
"Where the fuck is it, you bitch?!" The man roars angrily as JJ tugs me towards the house.
"I don't know!" Lana sobs loudly making my heart break for the woman.
"Is it here in this house?!" The man growls.
"Is it somewhere else?!" He adds before the sound of crashing continues.
John B tries to peek through the window and JJ reacts fast, swiftly yanking me forward and pulling John B down. The three of us crouch with our backs pressed to the side of the house and my heart hammers against my chest in worry.
"Still think we should stay?" JJ hisses at John B.
"John B, I don't like this" I whine, fear running through my veins.
"The compass wasn't in the boat! Where is it, Lana?!" The man yells.
"I don't know!" She pleads and my breathing speeds up.
The sounds of smashing glass and screams of pain unlock a wave of unwanted memories and my body starts to shake, but then I feel an arm wrap me into a side hug.
"Don't listen" JJ tells us and I frown, realising I'm not the only one this is probably triggering.
I grab the blonde's hand and give it a reassuring squeeze, smiling at him softly. He smiles back and rubs my shoulder comfortingly. There's a thud on the other side of the wall and we're all showered in white flakes.
"Is that paint?" JJ asks, using his free hand to run his fingers through his hair.
"Yes, it's paint" John B retorts, ruffling his hair.
Lana lets out a loud wail and JJ pulls me closer to his side.
"Let's get the hell outta here, man" I hear the guy inside say.
John B sneaks forward to the corner of the house and I stay back, not wanting to even move.
"We should just go. He's got smuggler-" JJ starts.
"Shut up" John B snaps for the hundredth time today.
"Smuggler written all over him" JJ finishes, pushing me behind him as he moves forward behind John B.
Both boys abruptly jump back, pressing themselves to the wall and JJ's arm immediately snaps out, pulling me into his side. I peek around him, holding onto his upper arm and try my best to calm my raging heartbeat. The boys also look around the corner at the two men getting into their boat and my eyes widen.
"Dude, those were the guys that shot at us" JJ says, taking the words straight from my mouth.
"Go back, go back, go back!" John B panics, pushing JJ back as the guys sail off.
I press myself against the wall and watch as the sketchy guys disappear into the distance. John B turns the corner and I follow closely behind with JJ.
"Ms. Lana?" John B falls out as we enter the house.
My eyes widen when I see the mess of the place and I look around for the poor woman who I can hear sobbing. She comes into view and I gasp in horror.
"Ms. Lana!" I say in concern, rushing towards the woman and dropping down next to her.
"Hey, are you okay?" John B asks as he kneels down next to her too.
She jumps in fright as John B touches her shoulder and I frown sadly at the state she's in.
"It's okay" John B assures her.
"Dude, she's tweaking" JJ states.
"For good reason" I comment.
"Do you need a doctor?" I hear John B ask and I turn my attention back to Lana.
"Let's call the sheriff's department" John B tells JJ.
"No cops, please" Lana begs frantically.
"Mm. That's not good. Come on, dude. Let's just go" JJ states, pulling me to my feet.
"You shouldn't be here" Lana cries and I tug on John B's shirt.
"That's enough for me" JJ states.
"Come on, Johnny" I plead.
"Wait, wait" He says and my anxiety sky rockets at the thought of those men coming back.
"What do you know about these guys?" John B asks Lana.
"They were looking for something" She replies sadly.
"Does it have anything to do with this?" John B asks, pulling out the compass.
As soon as Lana's eyes catch the compass her face turns to stone and she looks pale as ever.
"Do you know anything about this?" John B then asks and Lana starts to hyperventilate.
"This is my father's, and Scooter had it. Why?" John B presses.
"Scooter didn't have it, okay?! Don't tell anyone you have that!" Lana shouts.
"Come on" JJ tries to tell our friend.
"Why?" The brunette asks her, ignoring us.
"They can't know that you have that! You've gotta get out of here!" She cries loudly in a panicked voice.
"What do you know about the compass?" John B snaps.
"No more questions, Johnny. She wants us gone!" I scold him.
"Go! Get out!" Lana screams.
"We gotta go! Let's go!" JJ rushes out hurriedly.

"And we're outside like this" JJ shouts as he reenacts what happened outside the Grubb's household for Kiara and Pope "And all we hear is just, 'Bam! Bam! Bam!'. Knocking paint off the wall, G! From the inside! All right? And i'm just looking at them, like-"
"Wait, first off, look at this shit. Look at it" JJ says as he shakes hair wildly, causing paint to fall out of it and I can't help but realise he looks cute with his hair all messed up.
"That's dandruff, disgusting" Kiara says in disgust, running her fingers through my own hair as I lay my head on her lap.
"Okay, thank you" Pope says sarcastically.
"Look at all that! All right? That's paint!" JJ exclaims and I let out a quiet sigh, lightly strumming the strings on Kiara's ukulele.
"At that point, I was just, like...I'm waiting for death" JJ says dramatically.
"Oh, okay, so you saw the guys that shot at us, right?" Pope asks.
"Yeah" JJ replies.
"Did you get a good descriptions them? What did they look like?" Pope then asks.
"Anything's helpful" Kiara adds.
"Anything we can bring to like, a police report, maybe?" Pope shrugs.
"Burly" JJ answers and I look at him in confusion.
"Out of everything, that's what you decide to go with?" I ask in disbelief and he shoots me a glare.
"Burly?" Pope asks JJ.
"Yeah. You know, like.." JJ drawls off.
"That's not very helpful" Kiara retorts and I snort, going back to messing with the ukulele in my hands.
"Okay, well, no, like the type of guy at my dad's garage. I mean, you guys know he made cargo hides for drug smugglers" JJ explains.
"Yeah. Yes. No, we know" Kiara nods, having heard this a thousand times before.
"I can tell you with full confidence, guys, these boys, these killers..." JJ pauses to take a puff of his juul "They're square groupers"
"They're square groupers, like narco square grouper? Like Pablo Escobar square grouper?" Pope asks.
"Yeah, man" JJ nods.
"You guys, not everything is a kingpin movie" Kiara states in frustration.
"Okay. What does this square grouper look like specifically?" Pope asks curiously.
"You weren't there, bro!" JJ exclaims.
"Well apparently you don't know what to look for!" Pope retorts.
"Dude! I wasn't taking little mental polaroids the entire time, man! I was under duress, okay?!" JJ shrieks.
"But I can tell you...I can tell you that by the way that Ms. Lana was screaming...that these guys are serious, serious hombres, man" JJ says and I can't help but grin at his Spanish which Kiara notices, scolding me with her eyes.
"It's a heavy vibe right now, okay? I'm not liking this very much" JJ states and I turn my grin into a frown, staring down at the instrument as I pluck at the strings gently.
