Chapter V - Interview

Mycroft sighs as the video ends. 'Well, Sherlock, it looks like you have yourself one of those more interesting cases.'

Sherlock's fingers drum on the desk as he sighs as well. 'I suppose we could do something more... classic to solve this case.

Darkness surrounds Clara and then a light clicks on, slightly blinding her by shining in her face.

'Really?' she calls out. 'Is this really necessary? We could just have a normal conversation.'

'We are conversing, aren't we?' the familiar baritone of Sherlock asks.

'Yes, but if this is your idea of normal, you need to adjust your standards.' Clara retorts. Soon, the lights are clicked on and the bright light is turned off. As it turns out, there wasn't much to see anyway. The room has bare walls that are a yellow shade of white, and Sherlock is sitting across from her at a table, his coat behind him on his chair.

'Let's start with a few basic personality questions. How would others describe you?' Sherlock begins.

'What, is this a date?' Clara smirks snarkily.

'Just answer the question.'

'Fine. Probably stubborn, kind, caring... and definitely impossible.'

'Seems accurate...' Sherlock mutters under his breath. 'Now, have you, or anybody you know, served in war?'

'Why is this even relevant?' Clara wonders. Sherlock glares at her from across the table.  'Yes. My friends Danny Pink, Ash El Dir, and...' The Doctor. Or should I say John Smith? 'John Smith have all served in wars.'

'What are your relationships with these people?'

'The first was my boyfriend, the second is my best friend, and the third was a very close friend,'Clara answers.

'I assume Mr Pink is now your ex then? And what of Miss Ash and Mr Smith?' Sherlock is taking notes.

'Actually, Danny is dead.' Clara states.

Sherlock looks up, 'Oh, I'm sorry.'

'And the Doc--I mean, John forgot about me.' How can someone just forget about someone close? Sherlock wonders. 'Ash is my best friend, we have a lot in common, and we work together in a restaurant that we own.'

'What of your parents? Any previous jobs?'

'My Mum died when I was young, and I think my Dad is still alive... and I used to work as a teacher at Coal Hill School.'

'Okay. Anything... interesting about your past?'

Suddenly, Clara has a strange urge to tell the truth. 'I am dead, and I have died many times before. Well... it's complicated,' she mutters under her breath.

'What was that?' Sherlock asks, as he hadn't caught what she had said.

'Nothing, really,' Clara tries to cover up.

'If you say so...' Sherlock doesn't buy it. 'Last and most important question; did you murder the following victims: Janine Jackie, Francis Palmer, and Stephen Monroe?'

This caused Clara to bolt up out of her chair. 'For the last time, NO!'

'Thank you, then, that will be all. I am afraid that, due to the fact that you will not admit to the crime and we don't yet have enough evidence, your near future is undecided. Please follow me.' With that, Sherlock left the room with Clara trailing behind.
