The day you were born, on Hometree, it was just a regular day on Pandora for most Na'vi, but not for the family of Mo'at and Eytukan who have just brought a new addition to their family, and a new heir to be one of the next leaders of the clan. Y/n Te Tskaha Mo'at'ite.
You are the youngest of your sisters and the last born of the Olo'eyktan and Tsahik of the Omaticaya. You are perfect in every way drom
the moment you are born, even only being a few days old. Just like all forest Na'vi, You had big, bright, doe amber eyes and an curious look on your face, gazing at everything around you with so much inquisitiveness. You looked like an ordinary Na'vi baby, except for one thing.
You had a long tail, blue skin, amber eyes, 3 fingers, dark hair, a small queue in the back of your head connected to your brain, but one thing set you apart from the rest. You were unable to talk and cannor make a sound. From the moment you were born, when gou were wrapped up, cleaned, and quickly handed to the Tsahik, you cried like any baby would but what truly shocked and left your parents with deep concern was that no sound came out of your mouth. Even after you stopped crying and curled in on yourself in a fetal position on your mother's arms longing for the contact of your mother as you fell asleep, it was your family's turn to be silent as they processed it.
This worried Mo'at and Eytukan deeply, as well as Neytiri and Sylwanin, who had come into the room shortly after you were born and their parents explained what had happenes. None of them were able to really understand why you were born without a voice, even as you cried when it seemed you were trying to scream your lungs out. Before they could even begin to imagine what this would mean for the clan, they were your family first before any high position. And after a talk as a family, Eytukan, Mo'at, Sylwanin and Neytiri all came to the only possible and reasonable explanation. You had been born mute, unable to speak. They had never seen this occur ever amongst any Na'vi so they were truly surprised, but even with their realization, they didn't love you any less.
In fact, this only made them feel more inclined to protect you and shield you from any danger you may encounter as you grow up. The entire family wordlessly and individually already felt a need to shelter you from any threat, and treat you like you deserved to be treated even with this small, yet significant, detail about you. And in that tableau, many weeks later after you were born and after numerous attempts at even trying to consult with the elders in the clan, the Olo'eyktan and Tsahik were given the same answer various times. They believed that since this was such a rare ocurrence, your inability to speak must have come from Eywa herself.
Even as being the Tsahik, and having taken time to interpret this later on, Mo'at wanted the elders to elaborate so they explained what they thought what might be the case. The elders explained to Eytukan and Mo'at that it is possible that your voice will return when Eywa gifts it back to her, and deems you to be ready but the elders didn't specify when. It could be days, weeks, months, or even years into your life, or most likely when you're older that your voice might have a chance of returning but there is no certainty of it. They said; "Her circumstance should truly not be ignored. It is something we have never seen before and Eywa has given her a blessing, not a curse. She is meant to lead all of us like no other Na'vi has done before, to guide The People to prosperity and peace" Was what one of the elders said, which the others completely and wholeheartedly agreed on afterwards.
Still, the elders themselves suggested that even with your inability to speak, now more than ever should arise the chance for you to become Tsahik in the future. That it shouldn't be seen as something negative, but that your muteness should be seen as a connection to Eywa nobody has ever seen before in the clan ever. Eytukan and Mo'at had thought of not putting you through the pressure of the role any longer after you were born and your circumstance arised, but now that they were seeing it in a better light, maybe it could even be beneficial to you to connect to Eywa and maybe even in the future, that could be a path to get your voice back. Eytukan and Mo'at no longer worried for the future of the clan, but rather felt that in the future, their daughter would take charge and lead with unmatched strength. That is why your training for necessary Tsahik duties began at a very young age, with duties to fulfill and to start practicing to be able to fully interpret the will of Eywa, since you seem to have such a strong connection to the deity.
Even with trying to figure out what had happened to you, there was never a day that you weren't loved from the day you were born. Neytiri and Sylwanin looked after you with so much care, and were so gentle with you. They loved having a new little sister that they knew would grow up to do great things for their people. This new addition to their family was nothing short of a blessing, just like the elders had said. The first few nights, Neytiri and Sylwanin both loved to crawl in between their parents to be closer to you and to make sure that even as an infant, you always felt their affection and love. They liked to believe they were your designated protectors until the end.
The two sisters loved to play with you, and found it endearing when you found the most simple and insignificant things funny like games or tricks and you laughed to yourself with the sweetest smile, and it didn't let it affect them how they never got to hear your laugh after you seem obliviously content on your own, but they found comfort that they would be able to someday. That thought made them happy and looked forward to the day Eywa decided to gift your voice back to you.
In the ceremony to introduce you to the clan, everybody was aware of you and your quite spoken abour circumstance, and nobody questioned it. The People welcomed you with open arms, accepting you for who you are and who you were born as. You were officially proclaimed in that ceremony as the daughter of Eytukan and Mo'at, younger sister of Neytiri and Sylwanin, and also named Princess of the Omaticaya clan, which made The People of the clan excited to see who would be leading them in the future. They could all see that you were meant to be a leader, that you were special and unique in a way nobody has ever seen before.
As the years passed and you grew older, At the age of 6, your silence ensued and your family had no official way of communicating with you, so they were able to work out a system that only your very most trusted friends and individuals in your life knew about, for your protection. There was Na'vi sign language that was mostly used by sea clans, but nobody in your clan really knew it, much less teach it, so you found a way to communicate with your loved ones through a simple manner that expressed your basic emotions through basic expressions, hand gestures, and just small things that your family has picked up about you that nobody else really knows. It has worked well all this time, but deep down you hoped you could find someone in the future to teach you the Na'vi sign language, and also teach it to your loved ones as well.
When you were a young girl heading into your teens, around 11 years old, you had become quite a beautiful young girl, with hopes, dreams, ambitions, and most of all, curiosity to see the world outside of Hometree. You had long dark hair with a couple braid strands that blended into your hair as small beads adorned those said braids well. Your eyes were a pair to get lost in, and since you didn't have a voice, it seemed that Eywa made up for it with giving you such an alluring look in your eye, while at the same time, your doe eyes had a gaze that just had such a sweetness and fondness to it that it instantly brought to life any room in the Omaticaya's Hometree that you walked into.
Everyone in the clan could always feel the warmth ans brightness that you let out. You had a gorgeous blue skin tone and a lean yet fit physique that most forest Na'vi's had, but you mostly took after your sisters, especially Neytiri who always found a way to keep you active by training you, teaching you the ways of your home, the forest. (After much insisting on your part, she finally gave in and agreed) You also had a very interesting pattern of glowing spots and freckles on all of your body, like most Na'vi did, but the thing is that yours stood out more because of their pattern, but it only made you that much more alluring and special.
When you weren't sneaking off with Neytiri (Which wasn't often since it became harder to leave Hometree as you got older and there was a much more watchful eye on you) whether it was to practice archery, agility, or simply to have fun in the forest, you spent your time in a spot in Hometree on your own, with your own company, and your thoughts. With so much time on your hands, you spent most of your time crafting your own clothes, accesories, even your own bow that you hoped to be skilled enough to use one day as your sister had been teaching you, but then again, you were a young teen, so you had room to grow immensely.
As you approached your teenage years, around 13 years old, you quickly became friends with Tsu'Tey. It all started when he noticed you had recently finished a session of Tsahik training from your mother and saw how drained and tired you were. And he could understand that, because he knew the Tsahik preparations tended to be arduous with information and practice. He approached you and then offered to keep you company since he knew you couldn't leave Hometree and it was dark out. From that moment on, he began hanging out with you often and he became your best friend.
You later found out he had quite the crush on your oldest sister Sylwanin, which you teased him him playfully for, but also promised him not tell your sister and assured him that his secret would be safe with you no matter what. Ever since he met you and treasured you deeply as his closest friend, he vowed to protect you from anything and keep you safe at any cost. He was already one of the best young warriors in the clan from his training group, so he was more than capable of making sure you were okay, especially with the threat of Sky People arising every single day. He didn't want you anywhere near them or the destruction that followed them like a plague, because he was aware of the immense damage they've already done to Pandora, their home, as well as the fauna, the flora, and the environment.
The RDA, the Resources Development Administration, was a company that was from Earth run by Sky People. They have taken a couple years to do so, but now that they were fully settled, they are extracting resources from Pandora which has taken a toll on your People. As they take more and more, they become even more relentless and violent with the extraction of resources from your home planet such as destroying trees to create their bases, killing wildlife mercilessly, which hurts the Na'vi very deeply because of how you were all so close and connected to everything around you, which included living peacefully amongst the nature in harmony. It was all a part of your lives in a way that Sky People struggled to understand. As they destroy the forest, your home, it is like taking a piece of the Na'vi who inhabit it too.
Even so, as your teenage years continued, you where nearing being 14 years old, day by day you started feeling something you never have before. A feeling deep inside you that had become impossible to ignore no matter how hard you tried. Even as you were doing daily tasks, you felt yourself being pulled away from from a feeling blooming inside you.
You had always stopped whatever you were doing and felt yourself slowly being drawn to whatever was out there that was causing you to feel like you were being called or summoned. Sometimes it was just you being outside near Hometree in the evening and you'd see path start to form and drag off into the horizon of the forest with bioluminescence, and with curiosity and full of wonder, you'd start to feel your feet move as if they had movement of their own. You'd only be stopped, when you'd be called over by someone who was seeing you almost stray too far away from your home. It was scary for you to be out there, even more now that the Sky People presence was growing.
"Y/n! Where are you going?" Neytiri would call out to you, and that was when you'd be broken out of what seemed like an endless trance. You snapped out of it and saw your sister running towards you and enveloping you in a soft hug. When you pulled away after a few seconds and smiled up at her, your sister began taking you back to Hometree as she took ahold of your hand. But you couldn't help but look back at the path of bioluminescence that was slowly fading away. What was that all about? What was that? You thought to yourself, confused. It was as if you don't have one sense, but all of the others were heightened and everything around you became so much more amplified and aware. You truly couldn't explain it, but you did feel as if something was missing or there was an empty void waiting to be filled.
It also happened a couple of times after that, and it only seemed to confuse you further. There was one time you were collecting plants near Hometree for a new accessory, but all of a sudden you were approached by a couple of friendly and playful Viperwolves, which were usually known to be vicious, but in reality, they were gentle creatures and truly misunderstood, even more now that the Sky People are now threatening their home at such a rate of fast destruction. The point is that when the group of Viperwolves approached you, a couple of them started to playfully go back and forth between you and a cleared path in the forest tat they made you look up to as they seemed to continued to gestures with their bodies for you to follow them. They had wanted you to follow them, and you were just about to but this time, you snapped out of it yourself and shook your head as you gathered the materials you had collected and quickly hurried back home.
A big part of you wanted to really follow the glowing paths or know where the Viperwolves would take you, but as much as your curiosity to know what was beyond Hometree, your fear was there too. Sky People were lurking, you weren't nearly as strong as you wanted to be, and you were vulnerable, without a voice to defend yourself. In that moment, you decided to become even stronger, to be able to fight back and prove you weren't the fragile princess every person in the clan made you out to be.
You appreciated deeply their concern for you, but as you grew up, you began to see inside yourself how much potential you have to be great, to be helpful, to be someone for the people you want to lead. At this point in your life, your Iknimaya would be soon (as hard as it was to convince Mo'at to let you try it out, especially with how much Neytiri had been training you) and taming your own Ikran would be the perfect way to prove to everyone you know how capable you really were.
In the end, you did in fact surprise everyone. When youe turn came to be chosen by an Ikran, you were able to effortlessly able to tame your Ikran that would be bonded to you for life. You used all of the tricks and skills your sister taught you from archery, hunting, running, jumping, and even climbing. Your Ikran had midnight blue skin, reminding you of the Pandoran night sky, so when you tamed her, you named her Kamari which translates to the moon, and that is exactly what Pandora is, a moon planet that orbits another. Your Ikran also reminded you of how she just completely blends into the dark night sky when she flew. Your training with Neytiri had payed off and you had your first flight alongside your sisters shortly after where you felt the freest you ever have in your life, and it was amazing.
Neytiri was ecstatic for you, and so was your sister Sylwanin, congratulating you for your amazing feat, both of them insisting that you were well on your way to become a warrior too if you continued to work as hard as you did. Even if they were against it before, Mo'at and Eytukan quickly came around when they truly saw your dedication and tenacity. They were immensely proud to see how you didn't let your silence get in the way of what you wanted and becoming the person you want to be. You got the chance to prove yourself and you took it, and after that, more opportunities came to you like leaving Hometree more often, or being able to go a little farther than usual. You didn't mind being Tsahik, but you didn't want that to be all that you were, especially with so many things you were learning about yourself.
After your iknimaya and you turned 15, you felt more free than ever and began to love your environment you were born into more and more as the years went by. It seemed to you that as you got older, that connection you felt drawn to only got stronger and you were deeply connected with everything around you, so those feelings of longing for working to be stronger for your people, to be a good Tsahik, to hopefully grow to be as strong warrior as your sisters are, and to not let your silence stop you any longer from living life like anyone else. And this desire and need to be more capable and stronger only seemed to increase when what separated the Sky People from the Na'vi suddenly came crashing down as humans began to purposely make the tension rise by destroying even more of the forest, which made the hate between the Sky People and the Na'vi only intensify. This made it harder for any of the two groups to find compromise and peace.
As a Tsahik in training, you were often asked to give opinions of your own on how to deal with Sky People and to see what Eywa seems to be telling them to do, and this also came with being the last born Princess of the Omaticaya. During these commentaries where you had to input your opinion hardly went well because you were still very far from understanding what it is that is making you feel like you're connected to the goddess on a deeper level. This is when Mo'at stepped in and showed you part of the training, since she is the current Tsahik and knows how to handle the situation. You payed close attention to everything your mother said, making sure to put all you have learned in practice sometime in the future.
When you felt as it things started to really change for you and your clan was when you met Grace Augustine. You had found a time early in the morning to leave for the forest and now you were climbing and leaping through the trees, wandering close enough to the village. But, as you were strolling through the forest, you heard voices. Ones you've never heard before, so you hid behind a tree. Aftee a few seconds, you peeked a bit to see who it was and just simply observe briefly to then just go home. This woman looked like a Na'vi, but her features said otherwise. Her nose looked too human-like and so did her clothes, but the accessories on her hair looked very pretty.
She seemed to be studying some bark and materials at the foot of the treeline with people who did look like Sky People but she was the only one who looked like a Na'vi. Feeling your curiosity grow, you crouched on the ground and hid behind a bush, but unfortunately, luck wasn't enough and you stepped on a branch, catching their attention instantly. The woman and the other humans with her all looked around with so much confusion as to where it could've come from. They all scattered around the area to search, so you began to slowly take steps back and make your escape before the humans or anyone else for that matter saw you.
As you began to step back, you sighed in relief when you were far enough to finally leave but you felt your soul leave your body when you turned around at the same time as the woman had come around the corner and looked at you with wide eyes. There were a couple of seconds where nothing happened because of just pure shock, but before she could react, you began to make quick steps back and head back into the forest but the woman's voice stopped you. "Wait!" She said in a hushed voice, knowing that if the humans knew she had spotted you, things wouldn't end well for you. You didn't know why, but you stopped in your tracks when you heard her call to you, and you turned around but you still kept your distance, which Grace could obviously tell was out of pure fear.
She hesitantly came closer, taking small steps as you kept your guard up. Grace raised her hands up defensively, not wanting to scare you off. It's not every day she gets to meet a Na'vi out here because usually you were all hidden at the sight of Sky People but Grace was truly intrigued by you, and to her you didn't look older than 15, so you must be very young. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt. But don't make a sound, because if they find you, it won't end well. Just...don't be afraid" She said in Na'vi with a warm and kind smile that somehow was able to reassure you that this woman was no danger. And it's true, she didn't want to harm you at all. She didn't want to take too long to talk to you because these men would find Grace and you any second now, so she'd make it the encounter as quick as she possibly can.
Your shoulders dropped a little as you felt trust towards this woman start to bloom, even if it was just a small bit. When Grace noticed you were a bit less hostile, she smiled and began to speak to you in Na'vi as best as she could. "What's your name?" Grace asked and you froze as your face dropped. You didn't have the ability to say it and you wouldn't be sure if she would understand the system you and your family had worked out to communicate with you. Grace's eyebrows furrrowed as she watched you struggle to answer such a simple question, seemingly going through your own internal battle. The way you were fiddling with your fingers and was in deep thought on how to answer her question, Grace had come to a possible conclusion but she wanted to ask you first. Before she could even bring it up, though, she saw your face turn sad as you tapped your throat with a sullen expression on your face. Grace smiled sadly at you, knowing her main suspicion was right. You couldn't speak.
"Ah, I understand..." She said and you nodded silently to her words. You thought that Grace would be upset, but in turn. You heard her chuckle softly and hear her following words. "That's okay. I can still tell you mine. I'm Grace Augustine. Scientist" The woman said and you nodded, not really knowing what a scientist was but you accepted her introduction. As the time for you to leave, you smiled as you came up with an idea. Much to Grace's surprise, you grabbed her hand and held it between yours. She didn't question it, especially when you started tracing in the palm of her hand Na'vi letters, slowly so she got every letter.
"Y.../n? Y/n?" Grace voiced out, and at her guess, you gave her a beaming smile and quickly nodded excitedly. Grace laughed softly at your reaction as she dropped her hands from yours and put them at her side, and then sighing as she heard the voices of the other men come closer, so she turned back to look at you. "Well, I hope to see you around, Y/n. Now go, before you get caught" She said with a soft and a gentle chuckle as she turned you around and nudged you in your back, prompting you to run back into the depths of the forest and then directed towards Hometree. Your eyes were quick to widen at her words as you realized how close you were to being caught by the humans she was with, though you were glad to meet her and you wanted to see her again as well. She was a Sky Person, but she wasn't like the ones that you were warned about before by everyone around you. Something told you that the moment to see her again might also come sooner than you think. Much sooner.
When Grace got back to base, she couldn't help but automatically feel her mood drop when she heard Parker consistently ask if she found any sort of clue that could get him Unobtanium, and she just rolled her eyes at the man and groaned internally, telling him once again that her research out in the forest was her own, just like she had told him many times before. She genuinely wanted to get away from him as soon as possible before she got an aneurysm from him talking about how those 'savages' were getting in the way of his mission and the Na'vi were apparently making it impossible for the RDA to do their job, but as she has always told him, it was almost as if those people haven't been living in this planet for who knows how long and that they couldn't just pack up and leave, but Parker was too thick headed to listen. She was tired of putting up with him, but the RDA is the only foundation able to fund her research on Pandora so she had to put up with it, but she hated their small mindedness.
After finally getting Parker off her trail, she got back to her lab and immediately got to work on what she had been thinking about ever since she met you and found out about your inability to speak, which she found very rare in Na'vi's, and she had never seen it before in all of her years of research. As soon as she got to work, she immediately started to look into Na'vi sign language, which she found out is mostly used by the Metkayina and sea clans. This was perfect. If she could be of any help at all, Grace hoped she would have the chance to teach it to you and give you an opportunity to feel more open to communicate in much more efficient way. She noticed how much you must need to have that option, considering how you had to find an alternative to tell her your own name. With motivation and determination to give you a chance to express yourself, Grace spent hours and hours on end studying, memorizing and practicing the sign language of the Na'vi.
As for you, when you got back to Hometree, your sister was the first one to find you and from the looks of it, she had been looking for you for a long time. "Y/n! Where were you? We were worried something had happened to you because of the sightings of Sky People earlier." She said urgently but was interrupted when you grabbed her hand and urgently started to pull your sister's hand in excitement, changinf her face from worried to confused. "Where are you taking me? What are you doing?" Neytiri said, letting you pull her on further towards Hometree. You looked at her with a beaming smile and used your head to gesture back to the direction you were taking her in, and the look on your face screamed 'Just come on! I have something to tell you!' so Neytiri simply rushed and complied, also finding it adorable to see how happy and excited you seemed to be.
But it completely changed when you and her reached your parents and Sylwanin, and you began to tell all of them about your experience, leaving them all with such unreadable facial expressions that left you confused as to why they weren't seeing what you were trying to tell them. Grace was a nice woman and it must mean that there might be more good Sky People out there, and probably very little, but it was a step. You insisted that you could all give her a chance to blend in with the Omaticaya and to learn from them like you could see that she wants to do. This was the chance you were all looking for to make amends with Sky People and even as you tried to convince your parents while they were on the verge of restricting you to leave Hometree again to prevent you from getting hurt at the hands of Sky People, you tried to tell them that this could be good for rhe tribe if they just gave Grace at least one chance. But to your parents, you came too close for comfort to humans today and it terrified them out of instinct, even if they've seen how hard you've beem working to become stronger.
"How can we be sure that this woman is not a threat, y/n? You were so vulnerable out there today and you may have been lucky today, but what if you're not so lucky next time?" Your father sighed as he came closer and placed one hand on your shoulder to get you to think through what you were saying but you nodded without hesitation on how you were certain that this was a good idea. You explained how sure of this you really were, explaining what happened with your encounter with her and how Grace protected you from being caught and discovered from the humans she was with, and with your bond with Eywa growing, your instincts told you that this woman was no threat and that she has good in her. Passing up an opportunity to get to know a harmles Sky Person with its only intenta were to get to know the planet and its people would be a waste. It was hard to come by and you had explained it all to your parents and sisters.
Neytiri and Sylwanin both looked at each other and then looked at you with fond smiles, and then coming closer to you to stand behind you with support at what you were saying. They knew you weren't naive or clueless and after everything you've learned, your judgment was truly commendable. If you had said that this woman would benefit the clan, then they all believed you and they were all for it. You came back safely to Hometree on your own and that was all that mattered to them in that moment. All three of you looked at your parents and saw they were having a deep conversation, who seemed to slowly be becoming more and more understanding and less hostile and opposing.
As much as they hated to admit it, you did have a good point, and they knew you wouldn't be bringing this up if you weren't sure of what you went through. They felt like it could be a jump to your growth from after your iknimaya, and to give you your freedom to have a voice and your own choices. So, they allowed, and you couldn't help but jump for joy at the news, turning to hug your sisters tightly and then rushing to hug your parents with so much love, and then ran out excitedly out of the room. They all looked fondly to where you just left, and trusted wholeheartedly in your efforts.
Somehow when you left Hometree a couple days later, you encountered Grace again (and thankfully she was alonw that time) and you told her you had big news. She was shocked to say the least. Being accepted and let into the clan and learn about the people and planet she has spent her entire life on? It was truly a dream come true. You had brought her back to Hometree shortly after that day and Eytukan had gathered the People in Hometree's main room to introduce Grace to the clan, and everyone was hesitant after hearing she was a Sky Person even while being in a Na'vi body, but after spending the afternoon with you, Sylwanin, Neytiri and the children, people started to come around and to see what you saw in Grace, and it made you unimaginably happy. This was all going the way it had to.
It was only a few months later of Grace coming regularly to the village, spending time with the children, learning about Eywa's presence near Hometree, the ecosystem, and falling in love with the planet more and more that Grace was finally accepted into the clan and was able to open up her own school for Omaticaya youth, which included you, Neytiri, and Sylwanin with the rest of the kids of the clan. For Grace, this was the perfect opportunity to also personally teach you sign language as she had been studying for months to finally have you learn.
After the first week of setting up the school and recieving the first class of students, Grace taught the young Omaticaya children all subjects they could possibly need. It was incredible for Grace to see how smart all of the children were and how they were such fast learners. You, your sisters and the kids werw able to pick up the language so quickly, making Grace feel like she was trult doing something right. She was loving, kind, helpful, patient, and she loved every minute of being able to watch them grow; as well as watching you and your sisters grow as well. She taught the kids, your sisters and you English. In your case, Grace taught you written English by reading books, studying vocabulary, and grammar so you could understand when it is spoken and was excited to teach you sign language as well, that would help you hopefully communicate amongst your loved ones. She was never going to be able to express how truly grateful she was for you and your sisters openly welcoming her into the clan in hopes of learning the way of their people, and to be able to hopefully make amends with Sky People by learning abour their ways to understand them.
One day, Grace sat you down in the back of class while Neytiri and Sylwanin took over the class for a moment. She had mentioned to your sisters what she wanted to teach you, and she had already had a few lessons with them too so that you could speak it with them as soon as you were proficient enough, and hopefully your sisters would teach it to your parents as well. Right now, Grace was about to give you your first lesson. As you were already doing very well with your English, Grace picked up a piece of papee and began writing down what she wanted to say. You watched curiously as she jotted down a small message until she was done, when she was done, Grace passed the paper to you and you read it to yourself, and as you got through it, your eyes gradually widened more and more and your mouth was agape.
The message said; "Y/n, I found a way for you to communicate a lot easier with everyone. I have studied Na'vi sign language thoroughly and now I can teach you. I also had your sisters learn it, so today is our first lesson" You read and you couldn't help but feel pure disbelief. You were finally learning sign language? After all this time? You thought you'd never find a teacher, but Grace had found the time to learn it for your sake, and you couldn't express what you felt even if you tried. You could only launch yourself into Grace and wrap your arms around her tightly. She was shocked for a second but chuckled out surprise with a hearty laugh, putting a hand on your hair and running her hands through your hair. She knew this was your way of saying 'thank you' and that you can't possibly put what you were feeling into one feeling.
When the lesson began, you couldn't contain your excitement and the happy smile that graced your features from the moment Grace taught you your first word. She taught you how to introduce yourself and when you did, to Grace it seemed like the movement came as second nature to you already and you were doing very well with the next couple of words. As the lesson continued, Neytiri and Sylwanin both looked from afar and saw how content you truly seemed from just a small lesson a d to be learning what you've been wanting to learn since you were young. This was a life changing moment for you and the two girls didn't regret one bit deciding to be with you and support you from the very start. These lessons went on for a couple more weeks and you were almost entirely proficient by then with how well you were doing. And so were kids as well!
After that, months went by and Grace and your parents often discussed the opportunities to open up doors for peaceful negotiations with the Sky People, opening up a path for peace. But even so, the Sky People kept pining after the Na'vi's resources and continued to run rampant and destroying the land relentlessly, and maybe even more so than before. The Omaticaya were deeply disheartened given how much they wanted to avoid conflict or lives would be lost meaninglessly over human greed.
After a couple years later, you were 17 and you had officially become fluent in reading English and proficient in Na'vi sign language. You were growing into a beautiful woman with a bright future ahead of her as Tsahik and your bond and connection with Eywa was only getting stronger. One day, just a regular one like no other, youbtold Grace about those feelings that you have inside you that made you feel as if you have to go to a certain place, like something pulling you to go there even if you had no idea what it was. She was just a confused as you were, but promised to look into it for you, which made you feel instantly more relieved. As for Grace, her knowledge on the Na'vi had improved immensely than when she first encountered you a couple of months ago. Her switch from English to Na'vi sounded so fluent and like a native, and you were happy for your mentor's progress ever since entering the clan.
Later that same day, it did seem like it would be a day like any other, but boy were you wrong. The last few months, after the Sky People increased their attacks, Sylwanin joined a rebellion with other warriors of the clan to fight against the humans, as much as you, Neytiri and Tsu'tey warned her not to because of how dangerous it was out there. Even Neytiri and the rest of the clan had restrictions as well from leaving Hometree because your parents were worried for all three of you and the rest of the clan. You and Neytiri were with Grace and the kids today at the school but Sylwanin was not. You knew that Sylwanin was very upset about the clear-cutting and the damage the RDA was inflicting upon the forest, so at one point, she just...stopped showing up. Many Omaticaya weren't able to be spared from the attacks and it hurt you deeply. The damage to your home only seemed to become more violent and relentless every passing day.
That same day, it seemed to be going as it always did. You, Neytiri, and Grace were sitting on the floor with the kids in a circle singing educational songs together while you smiled and clapped along. But all of that was taken away in an instant when the song stopped abruptly by Sylwanin and a bunch of other young warriors burst through the door. You and Neytiri quickly stood up and the kids did the same but gathered together in fright. Yoi studied your oldest sisters' face and saw how her and the warriors leaned against the dooe and had horrified expressions on their faces. Her panic seemed to be contagious because
not only did you and Neytiri had matching distressed and concerned looks on your faces, but you looked back when you heard whimpers on the verge of tears, and saw Grace shielding the children behind her protectively. You looked up at Grace and you both thought same
thing. 'This can't be good' Is what you thought.
You, Neytiri, and Grace started to feel anxious, the children began to feel like something bad was about to happen so their cries got louder and Grace tried her best to calm them down while you and Neytiri walked up to their sistee for answers while the othee warriors kept looking out the window desperately, which cannot mean anything good. "Sylwanin, what is going on?" Y/n signed anxious and quick movements that reflected her panicked state as her heart rate began to pick up. Neytiri was about to speak up when something interrupted her and everyone in the room stilled, even the children, who began to look around fearfully at the sound. There were a barrage of heavy footsteps that could be heard coming closer to the school, and your face paled at the realization. The warriors came here in panic and now there seemed to be danger coming.
They went after the Sky People, didn't they? And now they would reach the school at any moment. Oh, no. The children, Grace, your sisters, the young warriors, they were all here. The steps only intensified so you and Neytiri looked at your sister, who begged her siblings to run and stay back to find refuge. Your eyes dilated with fear and you walked up to your sister again. "Why? What happened? Are those Sky People after you?" You signed with pure urgency and distress, watching as Grace was starting to round up the children, starting to feel imminent danger start to approach.
The children were the top priority in that moment and nothing else. You and Neytiri listened to what your sister had to say and with each word, neither of you could believe what you were hearing. Sylwanin explained how her and the warriors with her set various RDA machines on fire as a warning for the Sky People, given that the humans were tearing their way towards Hometree with bulldozers, so now the warriors and her were being persecuted and soldiers with guns were on their way to the school and would arrive any second now. It seemed that Sylwanin hoped that Grace could protect them, but after hearing this, Grace, Y/n, and Neytiri gasped in shock at what happened, and the kids got even more scared, with some starting to cry and some panicking in fear at what would happen.
Before you could even begin to express your own frustration, Neytiri had already beat you to it. "Sylwanin! You could've gotten yourself killed! What were you thinking? We need to get the children out of here. Y/n, go help Grace, now" Neytiri said, as you nodded and quickly turned around to head towards Grace and the kids to start to help Grace round up the kids to the corner of the room where they hoped the bullets won't reach them. It would be stupid to run now and leave where the perimeter of the school was probably overrun by Sky People with guns and machinery. All you could do was hope that Eywa would protect all of you. That was until everything was dead silent, almost too quiet, for a couple of very long seconds. It was eerie and also very unsettling. It felt like an entire eternity until the beginning of the worst moment of your life began. It was worse than you thought. Even if your mind tricked you into believing the coast was clear, it seems your hypothesis about there being Sky People being around every corner outside the school, because when your sister moved from the door and started to find a safer space, the movement triggered a barrage of bullets to rain down from almost every corner.
It all happened so fast. Before you could even call out for your sisters, you felt a burning and deep pain graze your leg, causing you to fall to the ground in agony as you gripped your leg in unimaginable pain. Your view was full of desk legs, in between the chairs from your spot on the floor, you saw a horrifying sight followed by a gasp and gut-wrenching scream of horror by Neytiri. Your oldest sister had fallen limp and lifeless to the ground and your breath got caught in your throat as heat gathered behind your eyes, a scream you wanted to let out so badly was crawling its way up your throat but the fact that you couldn't made it hurt even more. You could only let out strained breaths and rasped gasps as you grieved for your sister in silence, with your grief quickly overriding the burning and excruciating pain in your leg.
Your calls and yells to your older sister were in vain and you couldn't do anything about it. It only made more tears leave your eyes with no signs of stopping as you watched Neytiri crawled over to your sister and grieved in pained sobs, full of sorrow and anguish for your fallen sister taken far too soon by the Sky People. You screamed in silence as pained hiccups soon accompanied your sobs, and you soon felt like the effort to even try to get a cry out (even if you knew you wouldn't, which hurt even more) was simply pointlesa and your breaths evened, as you stared blankly at the scene before you, emotionlessly, gripping your leg with all the force you had left in your body.
Your pupils darted around the room and saw that Grace was sobbing too. She had rounded up as many kids as she could to get them to safety, and even after the bullets had stopped, the damage was already done. Many kids didn't make it out alive and were caught in the line of fire that they shouldn't have been on in the first place. You heard faint footsteps reach the school and through your heavy eyes, you let your eyes dart around the room to see Tsu'tey had arrived at the scene with horror written all over his face, and you could see him drop on one knee to the floor seeing Sylwanin, no longer alive at the hands of the Sky People, with Neytiri still sobbing over her older sister's body. Not many of Tsu'tey's friends who were also young warriors made it out alive either. The woman he loves is no longer in his life either and the worst part is that he never even got to tell her how he really feels and it stung.
He kept his eyes on Sylwanin and placed a hand on his chest to calm down his breathing and to pray to Eywa that what he was seeing wasn't real. His eyes darted around the room
and saw your body in between the desks on the floor, and he panicked, he rushed to get to you. When he did, his face paled when he saw the bullet wound in your leg, a bad one. He saw your eyes open and that you were breathing, but that light in your eyes that everyone loved, that everyone knew you for, and could light up a whole room, was just no longer there. He wrapped an arm underneath your legs and under your back. "Y-Y/n..." He stuttered as he tried to even attempt to get words out.
Still, he gulped harshly and carried you over to Neytiri. You needed to be together now more than ever. When your sister looked up and saw you alive and well, her eyes widened and she called out for you while her eyes dilated in horror at your wound. Tsu'tey set you down in front of your sister, Neytiri, and she didn't hesitate to bring you into a hug, once again feeling waterworks come down her cheeks out of relief to know you were alright. But you felt numb, unable to react, and even more so when your breath hitched once you saw your sisters body up close, making you start gasping for breath and you hiccuped while holding your sister closer. Your cries only came out muffled breaths as you thanked Eywa that Neytiri was okay, and hoped that the Great Mother takes care of her, just like she deserves and more.
It was even more painful to have to leave behind Sylwanin and the rest of the children who didn't make it in order to go back to Hometree. Tsu'tey helped both you and Neytiri stand up as the two of you still had tears of agony streaming down your faces, not wanting to leave your sister behind. People lost their lives today. Children with lives ahead of them. Young warriors with bright futures. Your sister, Sylwanin. And because of this incident, from that very day on, the war between the Na'vi and Sky People began. Mo'at and Eytukan mourned the loss of their first born with their two daughters, neither of you refusing to leave each other's side. And since the day of the murder, you didn't even see Grace, without even a chance to say goodbye, and the rules went back to how they used to be back at Hometree. Now, there was a perimeter Na'vi's couldn't cross in order not to come in contact with Sky People, and if anyone did cross the border, they would be banished from the clan permanently. There was no contact allowed under absolutely any circumstance, and for once, you agreed.
Though, you still stood on the fact that Grace was one in very few Sky People who were good, you would not want to risk another tragedy. You knew what the outside world outside of Hometree was about now, your curiosity for the world was tarnished and after the school was closed for good after Grace left, nobody was allowed to return to it for anything. You and Neytiri missed Grace so much, especially after spending so much time together learning and bonding. You hoped the future would be different and it would be one that allowed you and your sister to see her one last time.
The wound that had formed a scar on your upper thigh simply reminded you of what the Sky People can do to those who want to protect what's worth saving, to those who are afraid and defenseless with no means to fight back, and even if there was resentment, you believed people like Grace would be out there too and you would pray every day to Eywa if it was necessary for a better place, one that Sylwanin would've wanted. To pray to Eywa to give you a voice so you don't feel useless and powerless, or feel like you can't express emotions at all. You did not want to lose hope that there were good humans out there like Grace that would change the future of Pandora, that would fight and dedicate themselves to your cause as well.
Up until you became 19 years old, nothing got better and things only got worse since the incident at the school. Attacks were more frequent, the Sky People had destroyed a good deal of the forest with fauna and flora, and anything that the Na'vi feel connected to in a such a deep emotional and physical level. Fire and greed burned down your home, and your pleas were simply coming off as calls of silence.
