Rituals & Realities
Saturday
Today was their baby shower which they were both really excited about. The nursery was all done and while it was done a lot sooner than most couples they knew, they blamed it on their jobs. Their profession was always unpredictable when they would need to be called in. Which was why they decided to get it done sooner rather than later and be unprepared.
Alison was dressed in a baby blue body con dress that really emphasized her bump in the cutest way possible. Instead of wearing heels (because her feet were too swollen for that now), she paired it with her Tory Burch sandals. Her mom had even bought herself a pair and wore them for that day as well as she was wearing a light yellow dress. Mark had arranged for Alison to have a makeup artist come to their apartment to do their makeup for their bridal shower. It was going to be a joint one as Mark wanted to be apart of it and how could Alison say no to him?
They had already picked out their baby boy's name a few days ago but didn't want to share it with anyone in case when he came out they wanted to change it. After their baby shower today, they were going to pack hospital bags for Alison and Mark and their baby. Since they were going on their baby moon when she will be thirty-one weeks pregnant, they didn't want to chance being unprepared.
Mark and Alison had talked about possibly doing a gender reveal party but pretty much everyone they knew already knew it was a boy anyway and they didn't like how popular and trendy those parties had become.
Alison's whole family had flown in for the party as this was Alison's first child. Of course they had to be here for the big event! Mark didn't mind either since his family wasn't here. He couldn't remember the last time he spoke to his parents. Let alone have them at a party. Besides, he had grown close to her family and they loved him.
After the makeup artist was done with Alison's makeup, she put on her flower crown and adjusted her hair a little bit.
"Thank you so much again for doing my makeup for the day," Alison thanked Kim who was her makeup artist for the day.
"No problem," Kim waved a hand with a smile on her face. "I'm just so excited for you guys."
"Your staying for the party, right?" Alison asked her.
"Duh," Kim joked which made Alison laugh.
They would be having their bridal shower outside where a park was near their apartment, which was perfect for the party. Alison and Kim made their way out of the room and Mark's jaw dropped which caused her to giggle at his reaction.
"Hey gorgeous," he walked towards her and put his hands on her hips as he leaned down to kiss her.
"Hi," she smiled up at him.
"You look gorgeous, sweetheart," Mark told her honestly.
"Thank you," she felt her ears start to blush as she could feel the heat and leaned up on her tip toes to kiss him more.
It wasn't until they heard a gagging noise that caused them to stop what they were doing and turn to the culprit that was Adam. Alison rolled her eyes at his childish antics and threw a pillow at him which was amusing to Mark.
"Give it a rest already, you already got her pregnant," Adam groaned as he caught the pillow with ease.
"Shut it Adam," Alison stuck her tongue out at her brother.
"Okay you two, knock it off," Gabriel, their dad, chimed in to stop the bickering. "You'd think that the bickering would stop after they are done being teenagers, Mark. But it never does," he shakes his head.
Mark laughs and shakes his head.
"Didn't think it would," he joked back.
"You guys ready to go?" Alison asked everyone.
"Wait," Mark stopped his fiance before they made their way outside.
"What?" She asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"I got the baby something and I wanted you to open it before we go downstairs," he explained to her.
"Mark," Alison said as she started to tear up a bit and she hugged him.
She would never start crying like this before she was pregnant. Stupid hormones sometimes they just got the better of her and she couldn't stop once she started. He rubbed her back soothingly up and down and he kissed her head a couple of times before she stopped crying.
"Sorry," she let out a small laugh as she wiped her tears.
"It's okay," Mark said in an understanding tone. "Sometimes you just gotta cry. Ready to see what I got?"
"Yeah," she smiled up at him.
Mark had bought a Finding Nemo Mr. Ray Ocean Lights & Music gym for baby boy. Alison thought it was the cutest thing ever. Never did Mark think a year ago would he be buying baby gifts for his own baby. But he had to admit he was looking forward to this new life with Alison.
He couldn't wait to meet their baby.
"I love it, Mark," she told him honestly and her mom let out an 'aw' sound as she saw what Mark had bought. "I love you."
"I love you more, Alison," he told her as he leaned down and kissed in-between her eyebrows and then her lips.

In one area they had a dessert bar section which had everything from a cake, to cake pop's, chocolate covered strawberries and of course cupcakes. The desserts were decorated with the Pooh Bear theme. On the dessert bar table they also had props that looked like shapes of honeycomb's and Eeyore stuffed animals in them as well as Pooh Bear.
"I hate to admit because you know I don't do anything cutesy," Cristina slightly gagged a little which amused Alison. "But I like this setup and I'm happy for you two," she released a sigh of relief that she was holding as if that was the hardest sentence she's ever had to say.
Instead of teasing Cristina for her comment, Alison was very grateful to her.
"Thank you. I appreciate it."
"I even brought this for you too," Cristina held up the blue package which had her present in it. "You can open it now or later when you open the other presents."
"Can I?" Alison asked as she gently took the present from Cristina who nodded.
Inside was a book set of three fields for little doctors - cardiology, neurology, and cell biology that were a children's book set. Mark and Alison had asked for the guests to bring a book for their little one so they could read to him. Along with the book set was a soothe n' snuggle otter with music, sounds, lights and breathing motions.
"I read that its good to get your baby started early on engaging them with sensors and I thought he would like the otter..." Cristina rambled on.
"It's perfect," Mark and Alison smiled at the resident. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," Cristina slightly smiled, still not used to talking about babies. "Hopefully he will become a future cardiologist."
"We'll lead him in the right direction," Alison told her.
Cristina smiled awkwardly at them before she went to join Meredith at the dessert bar.
"So on a scale from one to ten how torturous was that for you?" Meredith smirked at her.
"A five," Cristina let out a groan as Meredith was amused at her expense. "I think I'm going soft, Mer. Make it stop," she whined.
"I don't know," Meredith laughed slightly. "I think I like this Cristina."
"Whatever," Cristina rolled her eyes and got herself a beer.
Thank God Alison didn't say no to not having alcohol at the party. She was really only here for the alcohol. And the cake.
"Who would have thought he would have a baby before you," Alex joked and the guys looked at each other.
"I saw it coming," James muttered before sipping his beer.
"Yeah, even I did and I'm new here. Dude can't keep it in his pants," Owen joked which made James shutter.
"That's my sister man," James told him which made Owen's eyes widen.
"Oh shit," Owen realized what he had just said and shook his head. "I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were Alison's brother."
Derek couldn't hold it in anymore as he laughed so much that his shoulders shook. He was just waiting for something like this to happen today and even though he was preparing for it the moment it happened - it was even better.
Alison had invited Owen, much to Derek and Mark's dismay. Alison really liked Owen and felt like he was making changes to how he handled the ER from when he first came to Seattle Grace Hospital.
The one person missing for today? Izzie. Alison had invited her and she had said she would come so she wasn't really sure why she wasn't here but she thought it was rude to not even send her a text. But she wasn't going to hold a grudge over it. This was their day and their baby's day after all.
They had a station that had baby onesies and different items to decorate them. Lexie and Madelyn along with Olivia and Clair were at the table decorating their onesies. There was also yard games for the adults such as the cornhole game, a giant connect four, ladder toss and other games.
Derek looked through the crowd of people for his person and saw her and Mark talking with Hailey and Natalia who had flown in for the special occasion. Derek knew that Alison had given Callie Hailey's number at one point to talk about her sexuality. Hailey was a lesbian but Natalia was bisexual and Alison was sure that talking to them could help her come to understand what she was going through was normal. The only thing she wished she could have done before Erica left was have her meet them as well so that she could see that there is such a thing as liking both men and women.
Adam and Katie were here as well with their little one - Aubrey Skye. Alison couldn't believe that she was already a year old! She recently had her first birthday party and it was the cutest thing ever. Alison loved being an aunt and spoiling her niece.
"She's a little cutie," Alison said as she held her niece and pressed a kiss to her cheek as she let out a smile and squealed as she tried to push her aunt away.
"Yeah, she is," Katie smiled as Aubrey held onto her finger.
"Feel the force," Alison said to Aubrey as she yanked on her mom's hand which made Katie laugh out loud.
"Did you really just quote Yoda?" She asked still laughing.
"He's my favorite," she shrugged her shoulders and looked at Aubrey who was in a Star Wars onesie. One that Alison bought her.
"It's getting closer to your due date," Katie pointed out as she sipped on her lemonade. "You excited? Nervous?"
"A little bit of both but definitely more excited than nervous. I guess I'm just nervous that I might fail as a mom," Alison confessed to her sister-in-law.
"It's normal to be a little nervous. I think every first time mom is. Hell, I was. But you know what helps? When you give birth and you meet your baby for the first time. It's like all of those bundle of nerves go away. You and Mark will figure it out together. I know you'll be a great mom," Katie reassures her sister-in-law.
"Thanks Katie," Alison smiles and hugs her sideways before giving her daughter back to her.
Over the past year, Alison and Katie had really bonded. Alison came to Katie for advice on babies and it was their way of getting to know each other. Even though Ali had her mom, it was nice to talk with new moms as well. Alison was closer with Sarah too but since there was an age gap between the three women, it was harder to become close.

Alison had the best baby shower but it was Monday and while everyone else was going back to work, Alison and Mark were on their way to Hawaii for their babymoon. She was thirty-one weeks pregnant and before they left on their babymoon, they had their checkup. Everything checked out great and Alison was growing as she should be. She was at a good weight and was keeping her sugar under control, besides the candy that she ate every now and then. Morgan, her OB, said that was normal to have cravings though and wasn't too concerned about that unless it became a frequent thing.
They ate relatively healthy though which was especially good for her pregnancy. Every now and then she would have her favorite candy but she really tried to limit it now.
Day one they spent the day relaxing out at the ocean and pool that was at the resort. Alison did her exercises in the pool which was something she really did love during her pregnancy. She also did workouts at the gym but they weren't her favorite right now. There was something really soothing about doing her workouts in the pool.
Day two they decided to take a walk along the beach as they got mocktails at the bar before their walk to enjoy as they walked. She was sipping her fake Miami Vice while Mark was drinking his fake piña colada. Since Alison had become pregnant, he tried to limit his alcohol intake. It wasn't that she asked him to stop drinking, he just didn't want her to feel left out.
Day three they decided to go snorkeling. If it was safe for baby then it was okay for the soon to be parents. Mark was driving their jeep to Kapalua Bay. Alison made sure to bring their GoPro to capture the beauty of the beautiful water underneath and any sea mammals they might find.
"You excited?" Mark asked his fiance as he squeezed her thigh.
It was early in the morning and while Alison usually wasn't a morning person, she was excited for this. She had read on the left side of the ocean is full of sea turtles, the right side was full of fish and the far end has the best reef.
"So excited," she grinned as she looked at him. "You?"
"Yeah," he let out a laugh as he made a left turn into the parking lot and found a space to park. "I've only snorkeled once but never in Hawaii and with the love of my life."
Alison felt her heart flutter and once he parked the car, she kissed him deeply.

"The wicked witch is dead," Cristina tells Meredith as she hands her a coffee.
"Metaphorically dead or dead dead?" Mere asked.
"Who are we talking about?" Derek asked sleepily.
"Hahn," they both answered to him.
"Her name is off the surgical board. Her surgeries have been canceled. I don't know how or why but I do know Hahn is gone," Cristina said with a bit of excitement.
"That's too bad she was really talented," Derek commented.
"Alison didn't like her either," Cristina told him. "In fact I think she will be pretty happy to hear that she's gone."
"Alison still knew that she was good at what she did. She wanted their patients to have a good surgeon," Derek said but even though he knew Alison like the back of his hand, he still didn't know she would react to this news. "Right, your not talking to me, are you?"
They both shook their heads and he took that as his cue to leave. As he made his way downstairs he heard an incessant amount of knocking on the door and he was puzzled why anyone would be knocking at this hour. When he went to open the door, a blonde woman smiled at him.
"Hi. Is uh, Grey home?" She asks Derek.
"Yes," he says confused.
"Death?" She yells as she lets herself in, leaving him confused. "Come on, where are you death? Death?" She questions and makes her way into the bedroom as the two blonde women hug.
"Hi, oh my God!" Meredith squeals as they hug while Cristina is confused who the hell this woman is.
"Wow," Sadie exclaimed as she laid on the bed taking up room. "You look like..."
"Death," the two exclaim at the same time and laugh.
"Is the guy in the pajamas your boyfriend? Because if so then hot."
"Right?"
"Uh, hey," Cristina chimes in as she sits up. "Who are you?"
"I'm Sadie who are you?"
"I'm Cristina," she tells her as Meredith and Sadie laugh and Cristina joins in as well.
*
Alison was enjoying relaxing in a lounge chair as she had a bucket hat covering her face from the sun when her phone went off. She rummaged through her beach bag that held hers and Mark's things and found her phone as she lowered her sunglasses and saw Derek had written her.
Derek: the wicked witch is dead.
Derek could see the three bubbles pop up which meant that Alison was typing back.
Alison: metaphorically dead or dead dead?
Derek: dead dead. She's gone.
Alison: best news I've heard all week!!!
"Mark," Alison nudged her fiance with her foot who was next to her laying on his stomach as he tried to get his back tan.
He grunted in response and looked over to her.
"Yes?" He mumbled.
"The wicked witch is dead dead. She's gone!" Alison said with excitement.
"Serious?" Mark exclaimed and got up as he lifted Alison in his arms and twirled her around with excitement as they both laughed.
Her bump was in the way between them and Mark wouldn't have it any other way. He leaned forward and kissed her as she laughed into the kiss and she tangled her hands into his hair.
"This is gonna be the best baby moon ever," Alison told him and pecked his lips again and again. "I love you."
"I love you too, Alison," he told her as he looked into her hazel eyes full of love.
*
"This woman is the reason why I went to med school in the first place," Sadie told the group as she wrapped her arm around Meredith's shoulders as they walked to Seattle Grace. "I figured if a slacker like death could slice people open than I could too."
Cristina kept on whispering 'Mer, Mer, Mer,' anytime Sadie said Death instead Mer. Who the hell did this woman think she was anyway?
"Meredith is not a slacker," Derek pointed out, equally confused as Cristina, who the hell this woman was. He wondered how well she really knew Meredith.
"Oh, I could tell you some stories," Sadie teases him.
"But you won't," Meredith tells her.
"So Sadie, you postponed residency to work in a morgue?" Cristina asked the blonde.
"Yeah, you know, fun cutting all the rules. Then I got bored. I was craving blood that flowing."
"Now you're here," Meredith said with excitement. "I can't believe you're here!"
The group walked along while Alex stayed back to talk to Izzie.
"Iz? You coming?" Alex asked her and the blonde looked at him.
"Yeah," she snapped out of her daze. "I just need a minute."
"Hahn's case brought up the Denny thing but Hahn isn't even here anymore. Stuff from the past. Stuff from the past, Iz," he tells her.
"You don't understand," she tells him.
"If you talk to me," but all she does is radio silence him. "Fine," he lets out a sigh and kisses her cheek. "See you inside."
*
Lexie was filling out charts for a patient when Cristina bumped into her and she put pressure onto her arm to stop the pain.
"Ow," Lexie said and Cristina looked down at her and noticed bandaids on her arm which Lexie tried to pull down the sleeve of her white coat. "These are scratches from my kittens. Scratchy scratcher."
"You're a cat person?" Cristina asks her.
"I mean my hair brush," Lexie retracted what she said. "Crazy scratchy hairbrush."
"Solo surgery is at stake here, three," Cristina explains to her. "I can't have you acting weird. Or wounded."
"I'm on top of my game," she nods her head.
"I'm sending you to neuro. I would have sent you to plastics but McSteamy and MsSteamy decided to go on a babymoon," Cristina let out a small shudder which Lexie gave a small smile to. "I'm sending you far away, just go," Cristina shooed her away and she left.
*
"Who do you think is in the lead for the solo surgery?" Alison asked her fiance as she let her feet in the fool as she sat on the cement and Mark was in the pool.
"Mmm, not sure. Definitely not Stevens. I heard she's been off lately. Probably Yang," he said as he made room between her legs and she wrapped them around him.
"I think it will be Alex," Alison said as she ran her fingers through his hair and he groaned.
"It better as hell not be Karev."
"Why?"
"Really, babe? After how he's treated you?" He scoffed and shook his head. "I'm surprised you forgave him so easily and not Hahn."
"I did not forgive him so easily, are you kidding me? I waited two months before I talked to him again and well, I could understand why he acted the way he did. With Hahn though, she had no right to talk to either of us that way. I'll always stand by your side," she told him as she cupped his face and kissed him, but kept it pg since there were kids out at the pool with their families.
"This is why I love you," Mark murmured against her lips.
"I love you too," she told him as she smiled into the kiss. "Want to go up to the room?"
"Hell yeah."
*
"Hey, what do you know about a heart guy named Dixon?" Alex asked Cristina.
"Dixon? Uh, no, I haven't heard of a guy. I know Virginia Dixon. Has got an incredible record, wait is she coming here?!" She asks in surprise.
"Yeah, today. A heart transplant. I'm on the case," he explains vaguely but just enough detail to freak Cristina out.
"Wh-what? Why am I not on the case?" She asks and he makes a face.
"So she's you're pre-Cristina-Cristina," Derek says to his girlfriend as they walk through the halls of the hospital. "You going to tell me why she calls you death?"
"Oh the adventures of death and die are better left untold," she tells him being secretive.
Cristina came up to the couple as she spoke in code leaving Derek confused as Cristina left.
"Translate that for me?" He asked.
"Lexie may be a secret cutter and there is still no word why Hahn quit," she says.
"Is that true? About Lexie?" He asks shocked.
"I don't know. How would I know?"
"If it's true, what are you going to do about it?"
"Nothing," she says confused why he's asking this.
"You can't not do nothing, she's your sister."
"And?"
"And you're family," he tells her.
"I'm not understanding," she says still confused.
"Lexie's your family," he tells her and she still doesn't get it. "Forget it," he says and starts to walk away but then she catches up with him.
"How do you think Mark and Alison are enjoying their babymoon?" Meredith asked him out of curiosity.
"A little too much," he grunted. "I got a preview of what they've been up to..."
Meredith furrowed her eyebrows and was about to ask but Derek shook his head.
"You don't want to know," he told her as he thought about the text he received late that night of Alison laying on the bed in her lingerie with her bump on full display and she gave him bedroom eyes. Mark labeled it with the picture:
"In Heaven" with heart eye emoji's. He also sent him some pictures earlier from the day of the couple walking along the beach, the sunsets, etc. It was clear to anyone that Mark was so in love with Alison and while Derek couldn't be happier for his friends he had to admit he was a little jealous. They were actually living the life he wanted. The life he pictured for himself with Meredith.

"I need the hospital rules to specify the fact that we must respect all religious and spiritual beliefs of our patients," Miranda said to Richard as he ate his lunch in his office.
"Rules?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm asking you to declare a rule of our department.
"That we respect the beliefs of our patients?"
"Yes."
"Isn't that just common courtesy?" He asked.
"Yes."
"Then why I am declaring it?" He questioned.
"Um, Doctor Dixon doesn't do common courtesy but she understands rules. So if it's a rule, we're golden. If not, we have a pissed off patient, an applictant surgeon and none of those things make for a successful procedure on a faulty heart," Miranda explains to him. "Not to mention the failure to woo."
"You want me to announce it as a rule?"
"Here's a witness. You can raise your right hand, left one on the physician's desk reference..."
"It's a rule," he tells her annoyed.
"Thank you," she says and leaves as he puts his glasses back on.
*
"What's wrong?" Alison asked as she had a slight waddle to her walk as she went out to see what was going on. "Mark, honey?" She asked as she put a hand on his bare back and he ran his hands frustratedly through his hair while sitting on the hotel bed.
"You ready to go home?" Mark asked his fiance as he placed his hands on her bump.
"No," she pouts and rests her legs in his lap.
"Oh, baby, I'm sorry," Mark said as he wrapped his arms around her carefully and kissed her jawline. "I think I know a way to make you feel better."
"I like the sound the of that," she said as she adjusted herself.
"Now you know I'll never pass up great sex with my fiance," he told her and spun around carefully not to hit the bump and kissed her deeply as she lowered him onto the bed.

^ these are the books that Cristina got Alison and Mark's baby.
so yes, I know Amanda Seyfried's eyes are green but please remember when we picture someone as a main cast member it doesn't mean everything about them is the same. Also I am going in and editing chapters that I haven't yet so if you see new updates of old chapters that's why!
sorry its taken me a couple weeks to update this book! thank you for being patient!!
I'm not sure if I'll be able to get another update on a new chapter before my surgery next Thursday so if I'm not please be patient with me. I'm having surgery on my left scapula to fix scapula winging I have from long thoracic nerve damage. I'll be in an immobilizer for four weeks and sling for two and will only probably be able to type with my right hand. It will probably depend on how much pain I'm in. Please be patient with me as it may take longer than you might like.
Thank you all for the support on this book... can't believe over 300k reads and 8k likes!
Also I know I didn't write a lot of the episode in this chapter but I felt that the Izzie and Denny scenes were weird (no matter how much I love him).
