Could the line physically move any slower?
That was the only thing running through your mind as you stood behind about a hundred other people, waiting to get through security. It seemed like everyone and their extended family had also decided to book it off the island before the hurricane was supposed to hit. Apparently, no one could have unique ideas these days.
You tapped your feet, not caring if you were making a show out of your impatience. Your pink suitcase sat in front of you, unmoved for the past ten minutes. Were people taking naps on the security belts? That could be the only answer to this ridiculous holdup.
You could hear the storm already screaming outside, the wind rocking the building, despite its sturdy build. You had never been more grateful to be inside.
Minho, who had refused to leave until you were safely through security, chuckled at you. "The line won't move any faster with you being angry like that," he observed calmly.
You glowered at him. "Excuse me, that's exactly what's going to happen. I get mad, and people give me what I want. That's how it works, right?"
"You don't mean that," he laughed at you. "You're nice under all that attitude."
"Ask Hyunjin, he'll tell you the complete opposite," you pouted, taking the sparkly purple hair tie off your wrist and putting your hair up in a ponytail. It was starting to get warm being constantly surrounded by this many people. You just hoped you wouldn't miss your flight at this rate.
"Well, I gotta use the restroom, don't try to run away on me," Minho smirked, wincing as you slapped him on the arm, before walking away towards the bathrooms, which were located conveniently close to the line. You both knew you wouldn't be going anywhere.
You sighed, pulling your phone out and scrolling on Instagram while you waited. You decided to sit on your suitcase to rest your legs, as you'd been standing for the past hour straight. The person behind you, a haggard looking woman with a birds nest for hair, raised her eyebrows. As if she had the space to judge, you thought in annoyance. You thought the airport was a judgement-free zone. Everyone looked and acted a little frazzled.
You were about to text Riley and Mya in your group chat to complain about rude old people with staring problems, when you thought you heard a voice you recognized.
And not only that, but you thought the voice was saying your name.
You immediately leapt to your feet, looking left and right to locate the sound. It was low, unnaturally low in your opinion, but this just caused all the hairs on your arms to stand up, and a shiver to run down your back.
You had to be imagining things. Maybe the airport was making you go loopy already. It must be all the circulated air.
But you heard it again, louder this time, more insistent.
"Laska! Oi, has anyone seen a short girl with a pink suitcase? Like, really short? She's 5'2, about this tall?" he held up a hand to estimate where your head hit in the air.
You watched in fascination as none other than Lee Felix, clad in a comfy black hoodie and baggy dark gray khakis, weaved his way through swarms of people, his eyes raking the crowd like leaves in the backyard, searching for you. And despite the unbridled panic in his eyes, you couldn't help but feel your heart warm at the sight.
His hair was a sweaty mess, his cheeks tinged a rosy pink, eyes slightly bloodshot. He looked like he'd been awake for days, even though you knew that wasn't true. Your lungs squeezed at the sight. Was he really that desperate?
He had driven all the way up here - how he got here, you weren't sure - in the middle of a storm, all for you.
There was only one reason you could think of that would explain his actions.
But you didn't want to get your hopes up, not yet.
"Hwang Alaska??" Felix called again, head whipping back and forth as he searched for you. He was barely a few feet away, but the jumble of people blocked you from view. Damn them and their long legs.
"Lix!" You finally snapped out of your shocked daze to call his name. You waved your arms, hoping he could see you so you didn't have to lose your spot in line.
His gaze zipped around in a circle, before landing on you. His soft brown eyes, wide with desperation, finally met yours. You felt a shock of electricity ring throughout your entire body as you stared back, unable to move or speak.
Time stopped, and you felt like you were in a dream, as Felix marched straight towards you. For a fleeting, panicked moment, you thought he was actually upset at you for running away, for being an idiot, for not telling him that you were leaving, maybe all of it.
Then, before you could react, his lips were on yours. Those perfect, soft, slightly wet lips that you had grown to love over the past few weeks. Hell, you couldn't lie to yourself anymore. It wasn't just his lips that you loved.
You loved him. You loved everything about him. And you had since the very first minute you'd laid eyes on him, all those years ago.
You immediately reciprocated his passion, kissing him back with an abandon you didn't realize you possessed. His hand slid into your hair as he pulled you closer, his other hand on your waist, not giving a shit that every person in that never-moving line was gawking at you.
You didn't give a shit either. This was your man. And he'd come to fight for you. Damn, you were lucky.
Finally, you broke apart, both of your chests heaving from the fervor of your actions, but Felix's hands just stayed at your waist, never letting go. He gazed down at you with those intense eyes, and you felt yourself warm from the heat of it.
"Please come back to the beach house with me," Felix said after he caught his breath, his voice hoarse and raspy. His hands rubbed circles against your hips in a way that turned your legs to water and caused your heart to explode.
You opened your mouth to protest, but he kissed your cheek quickly to silence you. You gazed at him, curious about what he had to say.
"I-I made a mistake. Well, I made a lot of mistakes these past two weeks, you know that. But I want to make them right, Laska, and the only way I can do that is if you come back with me. Just come back, and we can tell Hyunjin that we're together. I want to tell him - fuck it, everyone - exactly how I feel about you."
His words came out all in a rush until he was out of breath once more. He gazed at you pleadingly, with that lookย you just couldn't resist. Who gave that man the right to be so insanely sexy, and also infuriatingly adorable at the same time? It should be illegal.
You paused, unable to comprehend what he was saying. Your thoughts swirled through your mind as fast as the howling wind outside.
"And how do you feel about me, Lix?" The words came before you had the chance to properly assess them. Maybe you shouldn't have said something quite so blunt. Would he get his feelings hurt? Would he get cold feet and leave, once again? After all you two had been through? Your heart thudded painfully at the thought.
Felix's eyes roved your face, like he was x-raying you. You held your breath, fearing what he might say next. Finally he simply said, "I'll show you."
Then, he was gone, lost amongst the hundreds, maybe thousands, of people scurrying across the linoleum, one individual in a group of many that day, just trying to make their flight.
Where the hell had he gone? You combed through the crowd, but it was like he'd camouflaged himself, never to be found again. Your chest contracted again, uncomfortable against your chest in anticipation. What was he about to do? As you'd experienced over the span of this vacation, he was predisposed to making huge gestures whenever he wanted to. Nothing was out of the question for him.
Suddenly, you heard the overhead speakers crackle with feedback, then an awful screeching sound emitted from the speakers. You yelped, covering your ears. What the hell?
"Son of a bitch!" Someone yelled. That could only be one person.
Then you heard the same voice, a few yards away from you, yelling at the top of their lungs.
A sneaking suspicion crept its way up through your stomach like a tapeworm, wrapping itself around your intestines. But surely, no. You had to be wrong. Because that would be too crazy. Did he break the airport speakers?? And was he now-
"Good evening, Jeju Airport!!!"
That voice. That fucking voice. You'd already guessed it. Because you'd know it anywhere, even as he yelled so loud you knew he wouldn't be able to speak properly for the next week. You'd even have known it in your sleep, underwater, and every other place you could think of. Your breath caught in your throat, your heart stuttering. You could scarcely think as you strained to listen to Felix's voice.
"This is Lee Felix from Seoul. I know none of you know me, or even care about what I have to say, but I broke the speakers, and now I have to yell. But this announcement is only for one person. Because she's the only one that really matters to me."
From across the airport lobby, you could see him, and he was gazing right at you. His eyes were a blaze of passion, a fire lit in those brown depths. He kept speaking as loud as he could, but it felt like he was right next to you, talking only to you.
"I just want to say that I've been a fool, for my whole life, probably. You've been right in front of my eyes ever since I can remember, and I ignored you. I ignored the way you cared about me, really saw me for me, unlike anyone else. But now I know what I have. I have a best friend, someone who knows me maybe better than I know myself. And I want you to know that I'm not scared of anyone knowing how lucky I am. Because... I love you, Laska. I'll love you forever. And everyone deserves to know how much I love you."
He stopped talking, leaving everyone in the airport stunned. For the first time that day, it was absolutely silent. No squealing of suitcase wheels, no grunts or groans of angry fliers, nothing.
"Good for you, Sweetie," the grumpy lady behind you grinned, and you felt your cheeks heat up at her words. "That's a man of his words, right there. You're lucky to have someone like that in your life."
"Th-thank you, you're right," you stuttered, but you weren't really paying attention to her. You were once again scanning the crowd, searching for that "man of his words" she so kindly spoke about.
You paused, looking down at yourself, still stuck in this torturous line. What the hell were you doing still standing there?? It still hadn't moved, and even if you wanted to make it,ย you were definitely going to miss your flight. Checking your phone, you saw that the flight would be boarding in ten minutes. So much for that well-laid plan.
But that didn't matter anymore. None of this hustle and bustle, stupid shit mattered. Because you had made up your mind. Honestly, you had made up your mind from the moment you heard Felix's perfect voice as he walked through this stuffy airport.
So grabbed your suitcase and ran, not caring if you bumped into people, or accidentally ran over their toes with your bag. They'd probably understand, right? You'd just seen Felix, he couldn't be far.
Then you ran into a lean, warm chest. The person attached to said chest wasn't much taller than you. You could have just as easily looked up to see who it was, but you knew. You always knew.
Your arms instantly flew around his waist, and you breathed in that warm scent that you forever associated with home.
"Lix," you mumbled into his chest, refusing to remove your face from the soft material of his hoodie.
"Laska..." Felix finally pried you off him, holding you at arms length so he could meet your eyes. "What are you-"
"I love you too," you blurted, deciding to wrap your arms around his neck instead, and you pulled him in for another deep kiss. He kissed you back briefly, and you let yourself drift away in your own bubble of contentment, forgetting that anyone else was around. But although he kissed you back, you could feel his body stay tense against yours.
Felix finally broke away, gazing down at you in concern. "H-have you made a decision? Do you want to...? Will you...? Please say-"
"Of course I'm gonna go back with you," you said simply, "I was always going to go. Actually, a part of me was hoping that was what you had come here for."
Felix sighed in relief, finally melting against you as he embraced you again. This time, he was completely calm, warmth emanating off him in waves.
"I promise, I'm going to take care of you," Felix murmured into your ear, and you giggled at the way his breath tickled. "You can trust me."
You were about to respond with something cheesy like "I've always trusted you Lixie," when a sour voice interrupted your tender moment.
"Since you asked so nicely, I guess I can drive you two idiots all the way back to the beach house."
You rolled your eyes, extracting yourself from Felix's arms, but continuing to grip his hand. "Aww, thanks Minho, that means a lot!"
Felix grinned at his friend, walking over and patting him on the back. "You're the best, man," he said, chuckling at the venomous he got in response.
Despite the poison emitting from Minho's gaze, you both knew it wasn't real. "About time you two made up and made out," he grumbled.
You wrinkled your nose. "You're disgusting,"
Minho shrugged. "You two were the ones doing it, not me. So, what's the plan?"
You frowned at him. "Plan?"
"Uh, yeah. Your plan on how to tell Hyunjin."
You shared a look with Felix, and it was clear neither of you had come up with anything. Apparently, no matter how much of a planner you were, this had slipped your mind.
"Er, well, I was just gonna wing it," Felix admitted, ducking his head in embarrassment.
Minho groaned. "Yeah, and that went so well last time, right?"
"Well, we'll be doing it together!" you pointed out optimistically, "I'm much better at the whole confrontation thing than Lix."
Minho nodded, but ignored you. "Uh huh. You two are hopeless. Thank god you have me. C'mon, I have a plan."
laska's note โ
ahhhh!!!!!! our babies have officially made up and made out, as minho would say. now all they have to do is tell hyunjin. i wonder how he's gonna react to this whole thing??? will be be understanding, or freak out? or maybe somewhere in between! lemme know down in the comments what you think is gonna happen, because we're nearly done!! and since we're close to the end, i will admit, as much as i love angst, i'm a sucker for a happy ending. ๐ค
question of the day โ
what are some of your predictions or hopes for the rockstar comeback? hair color, clothes, etc???
my answer โ
since this is a halloween cb, i'm hoping for spooky stuff! i also can't wait to see felix's hair. i'm hoping it's purple but he's been throwing us off the scent for awhile now. maybe some heavy eyeliner makeup would be sexy for the pirate concept hehe.
