You set your phone down, studying your reflection in the mirror. Riley was in the bathroom splashing water on her face as her version of skincare, while Mya was setting out three different outfits to pick from for the day.

You had chosen a pair of light-wash denim shorts that barely covered your butt. They had embroidered lips on each of the back pockets. You paired it with a white and hot pink halter top with the Bratz doll logo printed on the front. You were now debating which pair of earrings to wear, if any. You weren't sure what the schedule for the day looked like, seeing as the only guy awake was Minho, who was clanging around downstairs as if he didn't care that his friends were still asleep.

Finally deciding against earrings, you applied a quick brow gel, waterproof mascara, and dark pink lip stain before sitting back on the bed.

JJ and Tessa were heading over at around 11. Since Lanhua, JJ, and Tessa all lived together in one house about ten minutes away, they two of them would arrive together. Lanhua had to do a full shift at her job at the vet, so she wouldn't show up until around dinner time. Last night, Tessa had an evening shift at her bookstore, which she owned, and JJ had stayed out late bartending. You, Riley, and Mya had even gone with Tessa just to see her bookstore for a few hours while she worked. It was called Baddies Book Haven. The whole place was so modern and vibey , while also being cute and cozy. All three of you had loved it.

Renee was off her lifeguard job for a couple of days, but she went back home to be with her parents for the night. She would be coming over around lunchtime. Robin had a scheduled stream last night, so she had gone to her grandparents house.

It turned out that Robin didn't actually live on Jeju as you'd initially assumed. Just like you and your friends, she was just visiting for part of the summer. Her grandparents lived on Jeju, so she came out here for a few months every year to see them. She actually lived out in Seoul like the rest of you, as there were more opportunities for influencers like her in the city.

Riley came out of the bathroom wearing a pair of black and white athletic shorts and a black tank top. "Are we going to the beach today?" She asked. "I'm not wearing a swimsuit, but I guess I could just swim in this."

"I at least wanna sit in our beach chairs under the sun shade," you said. "I think the guys are the only ones who're going in the water today."

"It looked kinda windy, didn't it?" Mya asked, tying her hair up in a high ponytail. She had finally chosen her outfit. She now donned a white summery dress with small pale pink flowers printed on it. The material was tight at the top and flared out at the waist. "I think I'd get too cold. I vote sitting on the side and eating snacks."

"I'm down," you agreed. "I wonder if Minho has made breakfast. I'm hungry."

You soon found out that Minho had indeed started breakfast. He was in the kitchen cutting up fruit onto a plate. It was accompanied by rice, miso soup, and a huge skillet filled with kimchi eggs. It smelled spicy and amazing.

Jeongin must have woken up too, because he was helping set the table on the patio, and carry the food outside. He waved at the three of you when you entered the kitchen. His face promptly turned red when his gaze landed on Mya.

"Hi Mya," Jeongin said, his voice scratchy from sleep. "How are you?"

"Hi Jeongin," Mya breathed, like she'd forgotten her friends were standing right next to her. "I-I'm good! How are you? Did you sleep well?"

He nodded, smiling. "Besides Chan keeping me up till one in the morning blabbing on and on about-" he chanced a look at Riley, but didn't say anything. "About stuff, I slept really well. Those beds are super soft."

"They're so nice, right!" Mya agreed enthusiastically. "I do miss my bed at home though."

"Stuff, huh?" You peered at Jeongin, wiggling your eyebrows. "What kind of stuff?"

Jeongin rolled his eyes at you. "That's none of your business, Laska."

"Does it happen to start with an R, and end with an iley?"

"No," Jeongin said quickly. "And even if it did, I wouldn't tell you."

"Oi, can the four of you stop chatting and go wake up the rest of those losers?" Minho called from the kitchen as he finished slicing a whole mango. "The eggs are already getting cold."

"I'm surprised they're still asleep, this is late even for them," Mya observed.

"Well, we were all up late playing video games again, while you girls were at the library," Jeongin chuckled. "There may have been a lot of alcohol involved."

You nodded in understanding. "Well, if it's that bad, I wish we had some loud musical instruments we could play in their ears. Just for fun, ya know?"

"That would be really mean," Riley laughed. "I would kill them if they did something like that to me."

You split off towards Hyunjin and Felix's room to wake them up, while Riley practically ran to check on Chan, who was asleep by himself in his and Jeongin's room. Mya and Jeongin took on the room with Seungmin, Han, and Changbin.

Without knocking, you stepped inside the room. It was very quiet, aside from faint snoring that emanated from your brother's bed. You hid a laugh. It would be kind of funny to record this, wouldn't it? But you already had hours of Hyunjin's loud snoring on tape. This barely made the top twenty.

You snuck over to Felix's bed, your heart skipping a beat. You had never just watched him sleep like this. Every time you'd cuddled and he'd started to doze off, he would wake up after only a few minutes. Now, he looked so peaceful, lying on his side with one arm under his pillow, his right cheek pushed against the soft material.

You leaned down and pressed your lips to the other side of his face, running one hand through his soft blond hair.

"Lix," you whispered, trying not to scare him. If he was hungover, you didn't want to disturb him. He was known to get startled by loud noises while he was sleeping.

Come to think of it, you'd never seen Felix drunk. That must have been kind of entertaining. What kind of a drunk was he?

Felix stirred, rolling over onto his back, his eyelids fluttering as he started to wake up. But instead of opening his eyes, his breathing evened back out and he continued to sleep.

You gently nudged him in the side, sitting next to him on the bed. You weren't sure how deep of a sleeper he was.

Finally, after some light shaking, Felix finally opened his eyes. It took him a few seconds to realize where he was and who you were, but when he did, he grinned up at you drowsily.

"What time is it?" He asked, his voice two octaves lower than his already deep voice. "Did I sleep really late?"

"It's almost 11," you replied, brushing a blond lock away from his forehead. "I heard that you guys were drinking a lot last night. How are you feeling?"

Felix's face darkened for a fraction of a second, but it cleared almost instantly. "Ah, yeah, we drank a good amount. I'm not usually a huge drinker, but I might have had two or three beers. Then Seungmin was doing shots so I took a couple. Okay, maybe more than a couple. I probably shouldn't have done that."

You shook your head at him, hiding a laugh. "You know I won't judge you. You were really nice to me when I was drunk."

He nodded, wincing as he did so. "Thanks for waking me up so nicely. I should get up now, right?"

"Yeah, Minho's made breakfast and he forced us wake everyone up. Only Minho and Jeongin are awake."

Felix nodded again as he started to sit up. "Are you gonna wake Hyunjin or should I?"

"No, I can do it. He's not a very nice person when he's hungover. But I bet you already know that," you laughed a little.

Felix smiled at you, but it looked a bit forced. You weren't sure what that was about, but just as you started to ponder it, Hyunjin distracted you with a particularly loud snore.

Squeezing Felix's hand, you stood up and hurried over to Hyunjin's bedside. You were very used to waking him up, especially when you were kids. He was always the late riser of the two of you, and you didn't even tend to wake up that early.

"Oi, Hyun, get up!" You shoved him with your arm. You knew if you didn't treat him roughly, he would be dead to the world for at least another three hours.

When he didn't stir, you grabbed his blankets and ripped them off. "C'mon you lazy bitch, it's time to eat kimchi eggs!" you yelled, shooting Felix an apologetic look when he grabbed his head at the volume. "They're getting cold, and I know how much you hate cold eggs! And Minho definitely won't warm them up for you!"

Hyunjin whined, blindly feeling around for his covers. "I hate you!" He cried, squeezing his eyes shut as hard as he could. "It's too early for this shit! And by shit, I mean your voice!"

You grabbed his ankle and tugged. "Get out of bed or I'll kick you!" You warned. "And you know I will!"

Hyunjin groaned loudly, but eventually pushed himself into a sitting position, clutching his forehead. "Why are you so annoying?" He grunted, glaring at you through one open eye.

You shrugged. "Minho told me to wake you guys up. I was just listening to your friend, don't get mad at me."

"I can be mad at both of you," Hyunjin retorted. But he didn't object anymore as he stood up and started sifting through the dresser for suitable clothes.

As Felix made his way to the bathroom, clothes in hand, he smiled at you. "Thanks for not waking me up like that," he chuckled softly, pressing a kiss to your forehead before exiting the room.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

As you were finishing up breakfast, the doorbell rang. It must be Robin. You'd known when you asked her to come over in ten minutes, it would be more like thirty.

As you let her in, a small black car, pumping music at the highest volume, pulled up outside the beach house. That must be Tessa and JJ.

All three girls walked inside and came out to the patio to eat with the rest of you. Everything was delicious, per usual for Minho's cooking.

When you were finally done, Robin announced to everyone, "well, us girls are going to hang out by the beach! You guys can meet us there if you want, but we're having a private conversation."

The rest of the girls looked confused, but when you and Robin stood up at the same time, they just followed without question.

"I bet they're talking about us," Changbin said in a theatrical whisper that everyone could hear.

"You wish you were interesting enough for us to talk about!" Riley tossed back over her shoulder.

"She's kidding, we love you Bin!" JJ chuckled, shaking her head.

When Riley fake-gasped, JJ shrugged.

"Hey, when Lanhua isn't here, someone's got to stand up for him, right?"

As the girls got settled out in the sand, each sitting in their own beach chair underneath a large cabana that shaded them from the sun, Mya turned a scrutinizing stare on you and Robin.

"Okay, what are we talking about?? I don't remember there being a scheduled gossip sess."

You glanced at Robin, who was busy trying to get comfortable on her small beach chair.

"Robin said that she had something to tell me, but it had to be in person," you replied. "Now we're all here, so she can tell me!"

The girl took her sweet time, shuffling around so both her legs were crossed underneath her before glancing around at everyone. They were all watching her.

"Well..." she paused, averting her gaze from you. "I'm sure you guys have already guessed, but Jisung asked me out yesterday! Finally, after more than a week of heavy hinting that I liked him!"

"Oh my gosh that's so exciting!" Mya clapped her hands together. "You guys are sooo cute together."

"How'd you finally get him to do it?" Tessa asked, leaning forward in her chair. "He's one of the densest guys I've ever met. I thought he'd never get up the courage."

Robin laughed. "Actually, it was mostly me. I got impatient waiting for him to make a move, so when we were in his room watching a scary tv show, I just leaned over and kissed him. He didn't pull away, so I assumed he didn't mind. Then, he asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend."

"I'm so proud of him!" You exclaimed. "I never thought he'd ask someone out like that!"

"Yeah, but Robin did most of the heavy-lifting," Riley pointed out. "I'll wait until the guy makes a move on me."

"I think its cute," JJ said. "Most guys are really dumb, so he probably wanted to know for sure that you were into him."

"He should have known," you conceded. "Robin was basically cuddling with him that time we all watched tv together a few days ago, and he barely noticed! What's up with that?"

"They really are a special breed, aren't they?" Riley chuckled. "One second, I think Chan likes me, and the next he's treating me like one of the guys. It's really frustrating."

"Riles, we know he likes you," you assured your friend. "He might just have a weird way of showing it."

"Or maybe he's nervous, like Jisung," Robin offered. "Or, that's what he told me anyway. He said he was nervous that I didn't actually like him back, so he kept telling himself that I wasn't interested. Kind of cute, actually."

"I wish he'd just be more honest with me then," Riley complained. "Ya know... I don't even know for sure if I really like him, but he'd make it a lot easier for me to find out, if he'd just flirt with me or something!"

"I think Jeongin keeps wanting to ask me out, but any time we spend too much time alone, I make an excuse and run away!" Mya hid her face in her hands.

"Girl, don't you want to date him??" Tessa exclaimed incredulously.

"Of course!" Mya exclaimed. "It's just, whenever I sense that he wants to kiss me or something, my heart starts to race and my hands sweat and I find myself telling him that I have to take a shower, or go grocery shopping or take care of my cat! I don't even have a cat!"

"Mya, if you want to be with him you gotta let it happen!" You said encouragingly. "We want to see you happy, and Jeongin is a sweetie."

"He's so whipped for you," Riley agreed. "He would wipe the dirt off your shoes if you asked him to, literally."

"You should give him a chance," JJ nodded. "You two would make a great couple."

"We would, wouldn't we?" Mya smiled briefly. "You're right, next time he wants to spend time just the two of us, I'll try not to run away."

"It's nice to see all my friends get into happy relationships except me," Riley sighed.

"It'll be your turn soon," you assured her. "I bet Chan just has some inner stuff to work through. I know his last acting gig turned out really bad. I'm sure that didn't help with his confidence."

Riley nodded. "He still won't talk about it with me much. I wish I knew how to help."

"I don't think anyone really knows," you said. "The only person who he's told is Felix, who wrote some of the music for the movie, so they kind of went through it together. I could ask him, if you'd like!"

Riley shook her head forlornly. "Nah, I should probably wait for him to tell me himself, huh?"

JJ nodded. "It's not really my place, but that's usually the best way to go."

"Even I agree," Tessa said. "It's good to be honest, even if it is fun to be a little sneaky."

"Speaking of Felix, where is he?" Mya asked, turning to face you. "He's been spending every waking moment with you since you got together, right?"

Riley smirked. "Yeah, you guys are basically married. I give him five minutes before he comes wandering over here to find you."

"Do you want any water, Laska? Maybe a sandwich? I could make you ramen if you want," Tessa made her voice as low as it could go, mimicking your boyfriend.

You groaned kicking sand at your friend playfully. "Shut up! He's just being sweet!" You insisted. "Plus, he knows all my favorite snacks and meals, it's kinda nice."

"He's like your personal house husband!" JJ laughed. "I wish I had a guy to do that for me. None of the commitment though, just food."

You glanced over at Robin, who had been mysteriously quiet for the past few minutes. She looked deep in thought.

"What was it that you were actually going to tell me, Robin?" You inquired. "You made it sound so serious, and now you're not saying anything!"

"Yeah Robin, give us the tea!" Tessa chimed in.

"If it's important, we want to know," JJ said, crossing one leg over the other.

"We love gossip," Riley nodded.

"If it's not anything bad, of course," Mya said worriedly. "Is it bad?"

Robin paused, grimacing. "Ah... well... you wouldn't believe that the only news I had for you was that I had a hot makeout session with Han Jisung?"

"I bet it was pretty great," Riley agreed.

"He does have nice lips," Tessa mused.

"Was there tongue?" Mya asked, a little to excitedly.

"Mya!" You fake-gasped. "What's gotten into you??"

"Hey, Horny Mya doesn't happen often!" She said defensively. "I'm good now, keep going Robin."

"We like Horny Mya, though," you complained. "Bring her back!"

"We wanna know what happened! No getting around the subject!" Riley persisted, pointing at Robin. "Spill!"

"Well..." Robin chanced a look at you, and your heart sped up. It must be something bad if Robin was so nervous to tell you.

"After Jisung and I were finished uh... watching tv, I was heading downstairs for a drink, and I heard voices coming from Felix, Hyunjin and Minho's room. And you know me. I had to listen in, as always."

"What did you hear?? Who was it??" Mya demanded.

"So I snuck over to listen, and I heard Hyunjin and Felix talking," Robin continued. "Everyone else had left the house to go shopping except me, Han, Hyunjin, JJ, Chan and Lix, so I assumed they were just resting. But then I heard them say your name, Laska."

You frowned. "And what were they talking about?? I assume it wasn't good, if you're telling me like this."

"Well, Hyunjin was accusing Felix of not actually liking you, because he only just started to develop feelings for you during this vacation. He said that when you were kids, he sort of ignored your crush on him."

"That's kind of true," you said as casually as you could. Even though you'd known for awhile that Felix didn't return your feelings until recently, you still felt a small pang of embarrassment at that. It still sucked to know that you'd pined after a guy your whole life, and he 'd only just started feeling the same way.

"And then Hyunjin asked Felix if he thought he was good enough to date you," Robin continued. "And he basically said that you were too good for him."

"Which is probably true!" Riley said indignantly. "He's finally realized that you're super hot and cool now?? Talk about slow!"

"Well, that's kind of sweet of him, right?" You said, feeling your face heat up. "He always says that he doesn't think he's good enough to be in a relationship with me, and he's scared he's gonna mess something up. So what's the bad news?"

"When Hyunjin asked Felix if he was good enough for you, Felix said that he'd barely started liking you recently. And..." Robin swallowed, like she didn't want to continue. "And he said that it wasn't enough time for him to start developing strong feelings for you. He said that what you guys had isn't serious, and the rumors Hyunjin heard about you two dating was false."

You stared at Robin, unable to form a response. Why would Felix say something like that? You knew him, you knew him better than you knew anyone else. Even in the short time you'd been dating him, you knew instinctively that he didn't mean it.

"No," you said after a moment's pause. "He didn't mean it. Hyunjin must have intimidated him, and he got scared."

Robin stared at you with what might have been pity. "Laska..." she started.

"I know Lix, and I know he would never say something like that on purpose," you insisted.

"Babes, it's okay to just let it go, you know. " JJ said in what was meant to be a comforting tone.

"If he isn't proud enough to be with you, maybe you should take a break?" Tessa suggested in an uncharacteristically gentle voice.

You brushed their words off. "I know. But I know he didn't mean what he said. He got... scared. I don't know why, but he did. I know how much he cares about me."

You stood up from your chair. "Sorry, but I've got to go talk to him. I promise I'll tell you everything. And if he doesn't want to be with me, I'll keep my boundaries up. You know that."

Riley nodded seriously. "You get him, girl."

Mya's eyes were wide, but she squeezed your hand. "We trust you, Laska."

Tessa, JJ, and Robin all watched you with identical looks of concern on their faces. JJ smiled encouragingly, while Tessa furrowed her brow. Robin nodded vigorously.

Holding your chin up high, you marched away from them and back towards the house.

But when you turned, you let your brave face fall. You cared about Felix more than anyone else in the world. But he had a hell of a lot of explaining to do, if he wanted to save this relationship, before it had barely started.

laska's note โ€”
ooooh are we gonna get another confrontation??!! alaska isn't too pleased with felix right now, but she cares about him a lot!! what do you think will happen between them? will felix explain to her what happened? will their relationship work out? let me know all your thoughts!!!

question of the day โ€”
what is the first thing you notice about someone when you meet them?

my answer โ€”
probably their clothing! i love fashion so it's interesting to see what people like to wear.
