wilbur never paid attention to the other ghosts in the void. there were so many of them, most halfway translucent, as if they never truly belonged there. he could have sworn that they were familiar to him, but memories kept slipping through his hands like sand.
there were too many, and most of them looked like one another. he could've sworn some spoke with his voice.
but now he was alone in the dark, only a pale sapling to keep him company. schlatt had found a quiet place to sleep years ago and wilbur hadn't seen him since. md came through every so often, signaling his approach with loud shouting or music.
but now, wilbur was alone.

he heard something in the distance, a familiar voice.
wilbur stood up, his body feeling as odd and as disjointed as ever since he had come here. he could see someone familiar, shaking on the floor, colorless as newcomers tended to be.
wilbur smiled. "hello, tommy."
