xlviii. interview

"Hello!" The interviewer extended her hand for the man in front of her. "It's nice to finally have a sit down with you. As you know, my name is Rosie. And well, we all know your name is Atlas." The interviewers smile was kind and she held a microphone out for Atlas to take as she held one in her own hand.
Atlas takes the microphone into his hands and holds it a a certain distance from his face. "Yes! It's great to meet you, Rosie!" Atlas chuckles. "Are you having a good day?"
"Aren't I supposed to ask you the questions?" The interviewer, Rosie, shock her head with a small smile gracing her lips.
"Ask away, Rosie." Atlas faked a bow.
"Well one, how's your day going?" They both laughed and Atlas only shock his head. "Your a cardio thoracic surgeon, correct?"
"Yes, I am indeed."
"And what made you choose working with the hearts?" Rosie spoke as she shifted in her chair.
Something washed over Atlases face. "Ah." He let out a sigh. "That's a hard one. I've always loved it: the way the heart works alongside the brain to keep everything alive. It's the key to everything, and that's just something I wanted to learn more about."
"That's an interesting way to look at it. From my unknown source, you're now the chief of cardio at Seattle Grace. Can you confirm or deny?" Rosie playfully squinted her eyes at the brown haired man.
"I am! And let me tell you, I'm beyond excited for my new role as chief of cardio. What I'm not excited for, is any paperwork I'll have to do." Atlas shivers. "Hate that shit."
"Well, it sounds like you'll be having a blast! What is your favourite part of your job?"
"Uhh..." Atlas blubbers. "I make a difference. Yeah."
"A difference. How do you balance work now that you have a daughter? I saw her when you came in with a very dreamy man."
"This is all new to me, but I'm figuring it out. Ah, yes, that's my boyfriend and Starlee. A few weeks ago a friend of mine had passed on — "
" — I'm sorry for your loss." Rosie interrupted.
"Thank you. When she passed away, she and her husband had left everything to me. It was a shocking, eye opening event — okay, actually, I've been through a lot of eye opening events..."
"Do you believe she's in a better place?"
"As long as she's not in any pain where's she is."
"Now this is a little dark, how about you tell me something about yourself. An interesting hobby or fact." Rosie suggested with a small smile.
"If this is off the record..." Atlas laughs. "Just kidding, but a hobby of mine is whenever I can't sleep, or I'm stressed and can't focus: I rearrange the furniture."
"Is that even a hobby?" Rosie cocked a brow.
"I'd like to think it is. But I rearrange the everything. My boyfriend, Derek wakes up some nights and finds me moving the living room around. Sometimes I organize too, I organized the fridge once." Atlas waves his hands around as he explains.
Rosie let out a huh. "That definitely sounds fun. I think if I lived with someone who rearranged the living room in the middle of the night, I'd have a heart attack."
"Oh trust me, Derek freaks out most of the time."
They both laugh.
"Now some fun facts, huh?" Rosie suggested.
"I don't like pizza. Okay, I'll eat it but I'd rather not eat it." Atlas shrugged.
"Why pizza?"
"Because it's pizza."
"Okay then." Rosie hummed.
"Now, can I ask you some questions about yourself?" The interviewer asked gently.
"Of course, ask away."
"Let's get started." She cheered. "Favourite colour!"
"Uh, oh, blue?" Atlas wasn't to sure.
"Favourite animal." Rosie was quick to ask.
"Alien." Atlas blurted.
"What?" She spluttered. "Favourite movie?"
"Lilo and Stitch." Bang! Atlas didn't even have to think.
"Any tattoos?"
"Yes, two."
Rosie let out an oooing sound. "What are they?"
"The date of my fathers birthday, and a heart — since well, I'm a heart doctor." Atlas listed.
"Pants or shorts?" An odd question, but that was what came to Rosie's mind.
"Pants, duh." Atlas rolled his eyes with a smile and shake of his head.
"Camping, yes or no?"
"Yes all the way, and fishing." Atlas loved fishing, and camping, mostly with his family and Derek.
"If your boyfriend asked you to marry him, what would you say?"
Atlas knew this answer. "Yes. I am in love with him, and I want to spend the rest of my life with him."
"Interesting." Rosie turned slightly to see Derek walking into the small area her and Atlas were sitting in.
Atlas hadn't noticed his boyfriend, or daughter who was wearing a cute little shirt that said "marry dad!"
Star gurgled and Atlas turned slight to see her. He hadn't noticed the shirt on the crawling baby, he hadn't noticed Derek slowly trailing behind her either. "Sweetheart." He cooed and lifted the little girl into his lap.
"This is Starlee?" Rosie asked as she waved her fingers in front of the baby who gurgled and reached out to grab Rosie's fingers.
"This is."
"Such a cute shirt." Rosie pointed out and Atlas twirled Star around to see her shirt, her giggles filling the air.
"Marry dad." Atlas read out loud and looked to the side where Derek was kneeled down, a ring in hand.
"Derek..."
"Atlas, I wanna spend the rest of my life with you. I want to have a big huge family with you. Wake up every morning beside you. Come home and tell you all about my day." Derek took a deep breath before he continued. "I want to have a ferry boat wedding with you, I want to go with you wherever you go. I can't imagine a life without you, now that you've wiggled your way into mine."
Derek looked up with a soft smile. "So, will you marry me?"
With glossy eyes, Atlas looked to Derek. "Yes! Yes, of course! Yes!"
"Congratulations!"
