[ mention of a rape victim]

How Derek and Atlas ended up in an elevator, together, would always be a mystery. It seemed the two just always caught each other at a certain time—that time being the elevator rides.

The cardio and neuro surgeons stand side by side in silence. There's the small awkward eye glances they make but neither seem to act on the fact that they are both glancing at each other!

"Your hand looks heavy, you should let me hold it for you." Atlas breaks the silence.

Dereks eyes widen visibly. He was not expecting Atlas to just straight out say some cheesy pick up line. But hey, it's Atlas. Derek was mentally freaking out: was he supposed to say something back? or just laugh? maybe place his hand into Atlas's?

Derek had no clue, this was new to him. And not to mention he had a wife back in New York.

Derek opens his mouth to say something back. But snaps it shut and very awkwardly raises finger guns.

aw, fuck. Derek cries mentally.

The elevator dings, letting the two exit and go their separate ways. Derek missing the glance he gets as he walks away.

There's no perfect world, and if there was, Atlas wouldn't be operating in a tape victim. But hey, like I said, not a perfect world.

"She's going to spend a hell of a lot of time in recovery and rehab." Derek tells the surgeons that stand around the operating table.

"If she survives." Doctor. Burke counters.

"She will." Atlas says, a glimmer of hope sparkling in his eyes, one that Derek sees.

"What is she, like, 5'2", a hundred pounds, she's still breathing after what this guy did to her? If they catch the guy, they should castrate him." Derek looks up at Atlas, like he's making sure that he's still there and okay.

"See how shredded her hands are? She tried to fight back." Doctor. Burke points out.

"Tried to? Rape kit came back negative. She kicked his mother trucking ass." Atlas chimes into the conversation.

"So, we have a warrior among us, huh?"

"Alison. Her - her name is Alison." Meredith speaks up.

"Alison." Derek repeats quietly.

"I think I may have found the cause of our rupture." Doctor. Burke pulls out a piece of flesh with a surgical tool. "What is this? Does anyone know what this is?" He asks, fully unaware of the object.

"Oh my god." Meredith gasps.

"What? Spit it out, Grey."

"S-she bit i-it off." Atlas stutters out, in all his surgical life, he had never seen a case like this. But there's always a first time for everything.

"Bit off what?" He asks oblivious to the penis he's practically holding.

Others around him whisper.

"That's his...his penis..." Meredith trails off.

"Karmas a bitch." Atlas breaths deeply.

"She bit off his penis."

Burke can't get the bitten penis into the tray fast enough.

Derek's sitting in Alisons hospital room when Atlas peeks his head through the open door. He waves at Derek, which catches the mans attention.

"Hey. I've called every hospital in the county. Sooner or later, the guy that did this is going to seek medical attention, and when he does, that penis Meredith is carrying around is going to nail him." Derek tells the attending who enters the room to sit beside Derek.

"Does she having any family?" Atlas questions softly.

"Doesn't have any." Derek denies.

"No siblings?" Sadness leaks from Atlas voice as he asks Derek about Alison having siblings.

"No. Both parents are dead. She just moved to Seattle three weeks ago. Welcome to the city." Derek so desperately wants to place his hand on Atlas arm and comfort him.

"I have two siblings, mom and dad, aunts and uncles. If I could, I'd want them all to be here. They'd probably all be throwing cards around in the waiting room, but that doesn't matter to me. I just want them here." Atlas turns his body slightly as he talks.

"I have four sisters. They drive me crazy sometime. But I'd want them here too. Their my family." Derek smiles sadly.

Atlas was going to say something comforting but his pager beeped, "I, um, gotta go!"

"Dr Lee—Sunny?" Meredith calls after the smiling cardio surgeon, who had just finished a consult.

"Mhm?" He hums.

"There's a baby up in peds, I saw him have a tet spell, and I think I hear a murmur." She tells Atlas.

"Mmm. Did peds call us for a consult?" Atlas asks the dirty blond baby surgeon.

"Actually, no, they're not doing anything about it—"

"So you want me to what?" Atlas cuts Meredith off, not rudely, but truthfully wanting to know what she wants him to do.

"If you could just go up and look at him—"

"Mm-hmm, not without a peds consult. I can't be fired just yet, I'm still trying to win over someone." Atlas tells the intern before getting ready to turn on his heals and walk away.

As much as he wanted to go up there and take point of this baby, he knew he couldn't and that it could possibly risk his job.

"Yeah, but—"

"Sorry Grey!" Atlas calls over his shoulder.

Atlas walks up behind Meredith. "I asked her. Can you excuse us for a second?" He says to Meredith, as he pulls the peds resident aside.

"Doctor."

"Are you messing with my intern, Doctor K?" Atlas asks with a glare.

"No, sir." Doctor Kerr replies quickly, wanting nothing more than to curl up into a ball because of the glare he received.

"Give me the chart, please." Atlas sticks out his hand.

The peds intern Meredith had talked to earlier this morning comes to her residents side. "There's nothing wrong with him, I checked."

"Are you sure?" Atlas says slowly.

"Yes...?"

"You say that like a question, let's hope it's an answer. Can you guarantee that he is fine, you are 110% sure?" Remarked Atlas.

The intern looks hesitant. Which both the resident and attending notice.

"How sure are you?" Doctor. Kerr asks his internet, taking point on the situation.

"I don't know, 75%." The female peds intern mumbled.

"Sorry, not good enough. He's my patient now. That okay with you, Dr. Kerr?" Atlas questions as he fiddles with the chart in his hand.

"Absolutely."

Quietly the intern turns to her resident, "He can take our patient?"

"He's an attending."

"Which means I can a—wear my sunglasses and b—do whatever I want."
Atlas goes and talks to the parents and explain everything before leaving with Meredith, "I want an EKG, a chest x-ray, and an ECHO. I don't have all day. That's a lie, I do."

Meredith laughs at the dismissal of Atlas lie.

"Well?" Atlas questioned Meredith after a few hours, by now the patient labs had came back.

Meredith hands Atlas the labs. "It's a birth defect. Tetrology affirmed lower pulmonary artresia. You were right. I'm booking the OR for tomorrow."

"Thank you for backing me up on this."

"Whoa, whoa, wait, whoa. You were right. But if you ever pull a stunt like that again...going to the parents behind a doctor's back? Trying to steal a patient from another service? I will make your residency year hell on earth. And I'll make sure others and behind my plan too. And trust me, I'll be fun." Atlas chuckles as he "threatened" the intern.

"So you and my brother, huh Grey?" Atlas breaks the silence as they walk to the peds floor.

"H-huh? What? No..."

"Whatever you say, Grey!" Atlas gives a big smile.
