"dammit!" the glass whiskey tumbler shatters on the concrete floor, jack daniels spilling everywhere.
carrie slides up the counter next to ginny, who bends over to pick up the broken pieces. "you know, bartenders aren't really supposed to get drunk."
ginny pauses cleaning it and stands back up, brushing a raven haired curl off her face. "boss is gone, everyone else here is drunk, and you've got my back."
carrie licks her lips and smirks. "you expect me to be completely sober? pass the buck."
ginny rolls her eyes, brushing carrie off, and returns to the mess. a man with brown and grey stubble, looking like a crumb, saunters over to carrie.
"hey sugar, are you rationed?" a stub of a cigar hangs on his lip, and his voice is deep.
the "badass best friend" goes along with it. "no..." she leans forward, her uniform shirt hanging low. he doesn't hide where his gaze diverts. at the last moment, carrie smirks. "i'm not sugar, i'm a salty bitch." and takes his cigar, walking away.
virginia cackles and hip-bumps carrie, heading to the trash can with a dust pan full of whiskey tinted broken glass. the man walks away, grumbling to himself.
'shoo-shoo baby' by the andrews sisters starts playing through the radio. carrie looks over at ginny. "hm, fitting."
a young man who's expression is sad and hat is crooked calls ginny over. "two old fashioned, on the rocks. make it fast." he's alone, so they must both be for him.
"coming right up, sir." she internally cringes at the formality. the tired and slightly intoxicated girl starts mixing his drinks, careful not to drop another expensive glass.
as she slides his drinks towards him, the bell on the door rings and two boys walk in. ginny's mood changes and she walks out from behind the counter, smiling.
"there's my favorite customers!" her red heels click on the wood floor as she goes to hug them.
bucky flashes his charming trademark smile. "missed ya, ginny."
steve nods and smiles, standing a few inches shorter than her. "how's business tonight?"
"c'mon, sit down." she leads them to the bar and returns to the back, before leaning over across from them. "work's work. drank one too many manhattans, but who's counting?" she smiles.
"not me." bucky says. "hey, where's carrie?"
"outside i assume." ginny twists her lips, thinking. "stole a guy's cigar. any who, how was the concert?"
steve groans and leans his head back while bucky chuckles at him. "we got called up on stage." her eyes widen in amusement. "and soldier here decided it would be funny to push me into the crowd."
ginny throws her head back laughing and bucky joins.
"and angel face here crowd surfed for the first time." the dark haired boy says.
steve groans, hiding his eyes. "it was a nightmare." he looks up. "and don't call me angel face."
"alright, ace. not around you." he sticks his tongue out cutely.
carrie walks back in a few seconds later, brushing off her skirt. she looks a bit surprised when she sees bucky and steve, but then smiles. "oi! why do i always miss everything?"
ginny tilts her head to the side. "would've told you, but you're more sauced than me. didn't know if you'd be able to contain yourself around these two very fine men."
carrie feigns offense dramatically and the rest of them laugh. "but seriously," steve says. "don't ever take me to a concert again."
"as you wish, angel face."
