chapter nineteen
GOING HOME ㅡ chapter 19
"I'M SORRY, mr. commissioner. but there are no signs or leads to your nephew at all. the cctv cameras around the café have all been physically broken by arrow shots from out of nowhere before the incident." one of the agents in charge of finding inseong reported to the head commissioner. "we've checked the surrounding cctvs but they too have been shot."
the head commissioner hates it.
he hates how styna ㅡ no, sirinova ㅡ planned everything and got away with troubles.
it's so cliché yet so frustrating because they always just have the right plan to slip through their open legs.
"then check where the shot cameras are as it will lead to their escape route and continue the search. meanwhile," yoogeok trailed off. "....let's reopen the missing case from 2017."
"understood, sir. anything else?" the lieutenant asked.
a wicked smile tugged on yoogeok's lips. "let's visit our feeble captive. he needs his daily physical questioning."
"there are no leads to inseong." dawon told his fellow rangers while they walk to the west office.
rowoon and hwiyoung's faces fell down at the news, but still continue to walk. "let's just hope they'll find him soon." rowoon said.
hwiyoung pretended to look down, pretending to act like he cared, like he wasn't one of the perpetrators.
someone bumped onto hwiyoung, making him halt his walking to kneel down and take up the papers that has fallen from a staff he bumped into.
"sorry." hwiyoung monotonously apologized, collecting the paper that appear to be files. one of them made him stop.
' File No.: #20100116 | Missing Report |
Person Name: 김 수진 '
he closed his eyes tightly and open it again to be sure he read that correctly.
kim sujin?
his mother?
but before he could check it one more time, the paper is taken away from him and put back into the stack of paper with everything else.
hwiyoung stood up while the printing lady slightly smiled at him before walking off to the files room.
why does seochu print a missing case of his dead mother? she did went missing before found dead, but why print it out now?
"you okay hwi?" rowoon asked, engulfing hwiyoung around his arm.
"yep, just... worried."
"we all are, hwiyoung." dawon mumbled. "those agents better find him before i get to and they'll all lose their carrers."
' xxx itaewon-dong, yongsan-gu,
seoul, south korea
17:31
son heegyung '
was what is said in the notebook styna/sirinova 'accidentally' left behind.
17:31 is when they'll be arriving, but being police officials, none of them is going to be following that.
i mean, who would believe criminals actually be here at 17:31, knowing that they've invited the police as their guests while trying to kill someone.
only idiots would.
that's why yoogeok, troop 065-066 and ranger93 were in position and has set out camp ever since morning, waiting for heegyung's arrival.
the lieutenant's walkie talkie beeped. a call from some members of troop065 who were to secure heegyung's arrival from the airport.
[ sir, we were outpaced. they have heegyung. and they seem to be delivering her. ]
a few minutes later, a helicopter flew over the officers who were already pointing guns.
"hold your fire." the commissioner calmly commanded.
the helicopter landed on the wide frontyard in front of everyone who were aware enough to safely distance themselves 100 meters away.
"up here folks~!" a voice being broadcasted on the loudspeakers broke out through the sound of the helicopter slowing down.
everyone turn to look up. a figure stood by the edge of the flat rooftop, looking down at them while casually waking along the edges. one wrong step and they'll be sent falling down to their misery.
"we've been waiting for all of you for two days now. mind telling us, why you're so late?" the announcer gestured her hand and another figure walk towards the edge to show heegyung tied up.
"our deal?" the commissioner also spoke through a loudspeaker.
"oh we got him alright old man." the speaker gestured to the helicopter where everyone now looked at.
the door slightly slid open before closing and it took off right away then landing on top of the rooftop.
a slight peek.
but it was enough to see inseong.
the officers were ready to fire, but recieved no command on opening them from the commissioner who stayed calm with his signature straight face.
"the assassin?" the speaker said.
"in here." the comissioner pointed at a rectangular vault like room that looked more like a coffin. an officer entered a code and opened it to see baron also tied up. eyes blindfolded, thin and weak looking with bruises, scars, wounds and marks all over his body.
"alright then." the speaker started. "we welcome you all, to the maze of sirinova! your objective is to go through the maze aka the mansion and come up here to get your reward, son heegyung. but i will only give her if you have something to also give. good luck!!"
the gates open and the outdoor lights all turn on.
"charge!" yoogeok shouted and the police all run to the main doors.
"lieutenant, we go up." the head commissioner said, gesturing the lieutenant.
it was an understatement to consider heegyung's mansion a 'mansion' it was more like a mini castle. like a big french villa in seoul, south korea.
"uh-uh stop right there kind sires. another step and you both will turn to minced meat. automatic machine guns here. either you go in the house or stay out." the speaker said once again, she threw something and it landed right by the side of the stone paved walkway to heegyung's mansion.
two of the machine guns turned to the spot it landed and immediately fired multiple bullets at a time, making yoogeok and the lieutenant flinch.
smoke filled the air with the scent of gunpowder, but it disappeared quickly.
yoogeok looked up to glare at the masked lady.
who the hell is she?!
"hwiyoung take the middle, dawon take the left and i'll take the right." rowoon suggested after arriving at the entrance that lead you straight, up to the right or up to the left ㅡ at least that's what it looked like in the dark.
"there are only three of us you dumbass! let's stick together." dawon smacked rowoon before grabbing him and leading the two of them to the right staircase.
"why the right? why not the left?" rowoon asked, looking around through the dark.
"psh, why not ask me why i we didn't take the center one too while you're at it." dawon spat back, grabbing his flashlight and turning it on to see.
everything was emptied and used as obstacles. there were weird walls that shouldn't be there. it did look like a maze.
"why not the center then?"
"would you shut up rowoㅡ"
sensations of something piercing cut dawon's sentence. both rowoon and dawon were overwhelmed of sudden exhaustion, their eyes immediately dropping at how heavy they've suddenly gotten.
their knees drop first, then their bodies.
and ranger93 down.
"sorry guys." hwiyoung monotonously mumbled, looking around before heading to where the other troops were.
troop065 heard light footsteps of an individual running, but can't quite identify which direction it was from.
one officer groaned loudly, blood spitting out of his mouth before dropping to the floor.
then another got swept by the leg and fell back hard with a grunt.
victoria snickered at how she had high advantage behind the shadows.
she grabbed one of her daggers ready to throw, but halted her actions when a gunshot was heard and a bullet came flying for her face.
she swatted her head immediately, narrowly avoiding the shot.
"almost lost an eye there." her voice made the other troopers flinch and turn to her direction ( the one they weren't looking at except for that one soldier ).
they all pulled out their guns fast, but victoria was faster.
she grabbed a nearby vase and threw at across the crowd of soldiers, making them turn away.
three troopers were hit of the debris while one got a small piece in his eye.
a punch came fast at one of them, hitting his jaw, snapping his neck and knocking him down.
victoria tug his body to her then throwing him at the others who were ready to fire.
they all scramble to catch their fellow officer, but victoria gave them no chance to when she came sprinting.
she highkicked one of them up in the head to use it as a momentum for her leg to hit the gun he was holding. the weapon fell to the ground the same time she swung the same leg to hit the side of his head again.
down he went and another came to lunge at her, but she pivoted once to her right, catching his arm, pulling his body down by the arms and sending him saltoing to the floor.
she grab his gun and pointed it at the last one simultaneously when he did the same.
his arm shake as he faced the masked assassin who easily took down his troop singehandedly.
victoria moved her gun to place below the other's, clearly taunting him. "go ahead. shoot." she raised an eyebrow.
he was about to reach for the trigger, but victoria knocked the gun off his fingers and catching it into her own hands.
she now hold two guns, both pointed at one shaking, lone trooper who had his arms raise in defeat.
"you're all out of the maze. stay put or get out. and get him some medical assistance." she told them with a smile, gesturing at the one who got a piece in the eye then silently exiting the area.
chancler has been abusing their bulletproof vests.
troop066 had more troppers than troop065 and they were more gun oriented. they even started shooting at chancler the moment they saw him.
"i need backup." he said through the in-ear while quickly reloading behind a sofa.
[ i gotcha. ] victoria replied a loud blag was heard, turning troop066's attention to the double doors that has just been knocked down.
"oops, sorry about that." victoria grinned, throwing a debris at the troop like she did with the last one.
she ran on top of the debris and jumped at the low hanging small chandelier to kick two troopers behind their necks, landing to grab a gun and sprinting to one of the troopers.
he fired, but she avoided and got a hold of his gun-holding arm, using it to swing him around and knock down a few troopers who were firing. blood spurts everywhere on the trooper's body and at the end, he fell down and victoria let go.
"you all need to be careful of team damage." the assassin told the remaining five troopers.
"you got the rest chancler?"
chancler showed up behind the sofa, ar-15 resting on the sofa head. "i got it."
victoria left the area and quickly parkouring up the stairs to avoid any of the bullets being shot at her while she exit.
"attention here, sirs." chancler chanted, a wicked smile at his face while he pull the trigger multiple times. bullets came flying at the trooper 5 shots in one second.
the rest of the troopers all fell down to the floor along with their consciously knocked out members.
chancler huffs at the gunpowder smoke, smacking himself for forgetting to put his mouth mask on.
he stood up to grab his guns, but stopped when three figures enter the area.
the head commissioner, the lieutenant and baron. he placed down his bag, frantically opening it to grab a gun.
but the lieutenant came at him fast, punching him square in the face and knocking him down.
chancler falls to the floor with a thud, eyes closed.
mason flinched while watching the maknae, quickly pressing victoria's line to alert her. "chancler down, they're bringing baron up."
victoria halt on her tracks, and turning back. she glanced to see three shadows walking up the staircase. victoria stunted down the handle, lunging at the lieutenant who she used as support when they fall down to the floor again.
a thud was heard and the lieutenant groaned at the cracks of his bones.
he pointed a gun, but victoria held it under her armpit, the he shot behind her. she glanced back worriedly, baron's okay and the commissioner only flinched.
phew!
using this distraction, the lieutenant rolled their positions, him on top of her and punching her face ㅡ not avoiding the mask.
the carbon fiber material crack under his powerful punches.
no one touches my mask.
victoria only got hit a few times before finally grabbing his wrist, kicking his groin and placing the soles of her feet on his stomach.
"hands off."
when she extended her legs and roll backwards, the lieutenant came flying back, head colliding with the wall and knocking his day lights off.
lieutenant down.
victoria stood up, walking to yoogeok who had baron slumped on the floor.
the moment he raised his gun, victoria sprinted and he shot multiple times ㅡ only to be narrowly avoided by her.
although one bullet did manage to lightly touch her lower cheek right under the edge of her mask, creating a thin, fresh, straight wound.
she swing her leg and the tip of her shoe hit his wrist, causing him to let go of the gun. yoogeok punched, victoria moved to the side, his other hand grabbed her hair and pulling it and forcing her down backwards.
victoria only did an aerial flip to have her front side back. she tangled her leg around the arm holding her hair, forcing him down with his arm painfully twisted.
"ackㅡ!"
her elbow hit his neck before she rolled to grab the fallen gun, landing back on her feet, swiftly standing up and pointing it at his forehead.
"take the assassin and continue walking up the stairs." she ordered him, moving away so he can stand up.
"i do not take orders from an imbecile assaㅡ!" victoria shot at the side of his face, scarcely touching his ear.
"you follow or i shoot." her voice dripped of intensity and goosebumps undeniably coated yoogeok's skin. "stand up."
he did, grabbing baron and swinging his arm around him for support. he quietly walked up the stairs to the rooftop with victoria holding a gun pointed at his head.
they arrived at the wide flat area.
yoogeok's eyes grew wide at the sight in front of him. a jet was staying afloat by the side of the mansion. one masked man standing by the open entrance with another one who is tied down.
inseong.
victoria moved in front of him and walking by the jet's entrance.
the rest of troop066 came running at the rooftop, guns ready and pointing at victoria. she gestured yoogeok at inseong.
"hold your fire." the head commissioner ordered. "heed to the assassin's orders."
"i'll give you heegyung and you'll give me the assassin as the price of completing the game." she said through a smile, but it fell down right after. "do something wrong and he's dead." she gestured at inseong once again.
"alright." yoogeok said. "give us son heegyung."
the troopers and yoogeok watched as the unknown assassin walked to a big crate by the entrance and pulled something out.
son heegyung stood up, eyes red from crying and with a small push, she walked towards the side of the law.
victoria showed her palm to a stop. "hold your fire and let him through."
chancler walked from the side, one shoulder supporting his bag.
when he was inside the jet, the female assassin pointed at baron, who can't seem to keep his eyes open.
he didn't look like himself. he's become thinner, muscles now loose, skin paler, big black circles under his tired, red eyeand messy unhealthy hair.
what have they done to him?
"the assassin." she gestured.
yoogeok let go of baron, letting him limply walk to his fellow assassin who immediately gave him support by wrapping his arm around her neck.
"i'll go get you inseong." she said, turning back but chancler secured her by pointing a rifle at them.
"check him jared." victoria passed her brother to jared who immediately ran a bomb scan.
he gestured that baron has one inside him.
"clear." she lied, gesturing her hand to take it out.
the female assassin then moved to inseong, grabbing her dagger and cutting his loosely tied ropes off following the cutting of his blindfold.
inseong squinted at the bright light to adjust his eyes. then, they landed on his uncle.
yoogeok smiled in relief after seeing inseong looking surprisingly well. no scratch on his skin - unlike baron who they mishandled for answers.
"you're going home inseong." she whispered, backing away so inseong can walk freely with no threat.
"inseong dear, let's go home." yoogeok gestured at his nephew.
a part of inseong wanted to go home. back to his normal life, back to ranger93. back to serving his uncle to find his missing... sister...
his sister...
chaeyoung....
hatred immediately clouded inseong's sight.
eyes glaring at the man who manipulated him and used him fro granted. the man who hold his sister and possibly mishandled her.
no.
he's not going back.
never again.
he's gonna find his sister and make sure she's not going in the wrong hands.
and he will make his uncle pay for killing everyone he loved in his life.
his parents.
his relatives.
his grandparents.
"you're not getting away with his." inseong said through gritted teeth and with that, yoogeok immediately knew.
he knew that inseong know all of his crimes.
he turned to the smirking female assassin.
one of the people he didn't get to lay hands on the night of the massacre.
baron's sister.
"victoria sirinova." he is seethed.
she taunted with a curtsey and when she bowed, something came flying out of the jet and in front of the group.
beep.
an explosion was heard and a cloud heavy smoke blurred their visions for a few minutes. when it cleared off, the jet was gone.
but 10 zinnias were on the floor. 9 with the letter 'c' and one with 'v'.
they're gone.
"fuck!" the head commissioner shouted in anger, punching the floor right where the zinnias tauntingly laid.
EDITED.
[ A/N ]
note that the other officer's
still didn't know who the
assassins are. only yoogeok.
oh.
i wonder where hwiyoung went.
