Your sight blurs once again as you near your destination. Those tears you so hard tried to hold inside fight back so mightily that they manage to surface your eyes, perching themselves over your waterline.
You sigh, and just as you push the door to the bakery-slash-café, the first tear traces it's way painfully down your right cheek.
It isn't exactly easy to control them when you face a situation like this; a situation which has you watching as your family breaks apart; a situation where all you can do is to watch, and try to get over the immense pain it causes.
"Hey ___! How are you to-"
The bubbly, sweet and soothing voice starts off, but soon comes to an abrupt pause.
"Hey," they say, the voice closer than before.
"What's wrong, sweetie?"
All you can do is shake your head in denial, maybe to yourself, that nothing is wrong. Nothing should be for you. It was their decision to make after all.
"Hey, now..." a gentle arm makes way around your shoulders, guiding you away from the doors and towards the counter, "you know you can trust me, right babe?"
Babe.
Yeah, it was a fact that your relationship wasn't defined. It isn't that what lovers share between them, but it isn't any less than that too. You may call each other a friend, but you know that the fact is quite far from it.
Then why does this simple nickname has your heart skipping a beat?
You are collected in strong arms, and put gently against a warm chest so comforting, that for a second, you forget the reason for your tears.
You nod against him.
Jimin pulls apart a bit, only to scoop you into his arms, picking you up and placing your body on the flat surface of the counter. He leans into you again, and suddenly you are glad that the café is empty.
"Tell me, what's wrong?"
He's so soft, literally and metaphorically.
You gather your breath. It is said that sharing your pain helps ease it, even if a little bit, so why not? Moreover, this is Jimin, a person you've known for almost almost all your life.
"Divorce."
That he right away understands the cause of every single tear.
Arguments are meant to be a part of a relationship. Two people can never be the exact same, and therefore a difference of opinion is meant to have a place between two people who come together to share a relationship of any kind. But these differences are to be settled and can be settled in an empathetic and lenient manner. One has to listen to the other patiently to understand their perception. That is the essence of any and all relationships.
But when this patience wears thin between the two, and empathy is absent, the relationship may start losing its beauty and sweetness, and it's strings: their strength.
Your parents once had the perfect kind of relationship. Greeting and farewell kisses, romantic dinners and vacations, rich family times, their romance was at it's peak. But with time, came in their differences. Difference in opinions, in decisions, in selections. It started of as meagre arguments, and developed into communication gaps. There came a point where they'd go for days without seeing each other's faces.
It broke your heart.
The impact of the huge cracks in their relationship hit you too. You were used to getting all the love and attention from your parents, and spending almost all the hours of your days with them, in their warmth. You grew up pretty and healthy in the richness of the family affection. But then all started to fall apart, and you were left stuck in the dark cold void that was created due to the ignorance and hatred between the two family members. You felt lonely.
Jimin knew you like the back of his hand and had you confess out your feelings, your brittle emotions about the matter between your parents.
He helped you through it. He guided you, he calmed you, he held you, he kissed you. He became your only happiness.
He worked in a café, and there came a time when you found yourself sitting in the café for 5 hours straight with him listening to your rambles.
But today was different.
You had grown immune to all the quarrels happening in your house, all this while secretly hoping that all of it would settle down and come to an end by itself. You never thought of that end being a divorce.
People say that you should be strong, and deal with your problems and your pain like an adult. But you can say that these people would never understand the pain of having your family broken into pieces. Saying things, even good things such as this advice is easy said than done.
You don't wanna store it up, bottle it down, because you can't. That capacity exceeded today morning. So you let your tears out and down.
Jimin holds you close till your hiccups settle down, and your breathing evens. He kisses you adoringly, and with a gentleness that caresses your weak heart warmly.
"Never worry ___. You'd never be alone, because I'll always be here, by your side." He says sweetly, locking your pinkies into an eternal promise. You smile, hugging him close again.
"Now," he pulls apart, scooping out a strawberry cupcake, beautifully decorated with pink icing, rainbow sprinkles, and a half cut strawberry at the top. He drives it up to your mouth.
"try this honey. I made it just today with the help of Jin Hyung. My first cupcake!" he excitedly exclaims.
The sugary flavors melt into your mouth, just as your heart melts inside your chest at the way his eyes disappear behind his beautiful smile.
You find him sweeter than any cupcake can ever be.
