10 | Emotions unchecked

"I'm sorry, it's all my fault," Naeun sobs, her body shaking aggressively. "Please forgive me."

"Forgive you?" Kang tilts his head, scoffing.

"I am really, really sorry," she chokes and falls on the floor, her makeup getting smudged from the tears that are constantly pouring down her cheeks.

"If you want to apologise, at least look towards the person and speak. How dare you apologise without even looking at me?" Kang crosses his arms in front of his chest before crouching down beside her. Naeun slowly turns towards Kang, mouth quivering as her hair sticks to her wet cheeks. Her eyes meet his almond ones, she is supposed to cry more...convince him but...she feels like laughing. She tries not to submit to the urge to laugh but fails.

She doesn't want to cry anymore, her heart is beaming with happiness.

So she laughs.

"Cut, cut, cut," the director shouts. Kang scoffs, standing up and looking at everyone in disbelief. "Did...you just...laugh on my face?"

To everyone's shock, Naeun just keeps laughing

"Do... I look...that funny?" Kang grits his teeth with every word, fists clenching. The director sighs, "Let's take a break. Mr Kang, please get some rest."

"Why do you cast such people director? Good for nothing?" Kang yells, turning swiftly walk out of the room. No one has ever insulted him in such a manner, his patience is running thin to stay in the same room.  The director sighs and looks at Naeun who has finally calmed down from her laughing fit.

"What is wrong with you Naeun?" the director says. "Don't you know that rookie shouldn't make such mistakes! If you mess with a senior, especially someone like Kang, he would ruin your career with his connections. You should stay focused."

"I'm sorry Sir, I—" Naeun says, feeling tears brim her eyes.

"No, Naeun no! If you cannot take your work sincerely, no need to trouble others with your presence." The director turns around to walk away when Naeun holds his arm, pleading.

"Give me one more chance, Sir. I don't know why I lost control—"

"Not with your funny excuses again," the director groans, "No wonder directors don't want to cast you, fame has gotten into your head. I was kind enough to let you take part in my film but you take everything for granted! Being pretty doesn't make you an actress!"

Naeun stands there with clenched fists, watching the director's retreating figure and then closes her eyes to stop her tears from rolling down. 'It's not your mistake, it's not your mistake, it's not your mistake' she reminds herself. No one comes to console her, or comfort her...maybe they think I am a crazy person.

"Wrap up! Wrap up! Mr Kang doesn't want to continue the shoot anymore..." The assistance director declares, glaring at Naeun to let her know that she's the reason for it. "Naeun no need to come from tomorrow, we have found a substitute for you."

Naeun's heart drops on the floor. Her third film this month itself.

She doesn't remember the last time she wasn't thrown out of the set or filming. If she remembers it right, it was in high school when she was praised by every single person for her role as a mother who had lost her child. People said that they felt her intense emotions and cried with her. Her classmates talked about it for weeks.

Soon after she entered the university, her mother encouraged her to join an agency as well. She auditioned for it and was instantly recruited by one of the producers who cast her in a side role of a movie that required her to be in a melancholic mood throughout all of her scenes. It wasn't difficult for her to impress everyone with her performance, having people call her the 'icon of sadness'.

That was the last time, she guesses. Because afterwards, out of nowhere, her emotions had become uncontrollable.

She would laugh for no reason, cry during stand up comedies, become angry and sour in the middle of the night— it became exhausting. Thinking it might be some mental or hormonal issue, she even visited the doctors to get a check-up done but they couldn't find any reason for her unexplained changes in mood.

Then there is only one option left, and she doesn't really want to let her hopes up so she shakes away the thought. She sighs. She definitely wants to cry right now, but her lips are threatening to curve into a smile again.

What is going on?!  Please don't laugh, please don't laugh.

With a sudden snort, she starts laughing again.

"So she really is crazy..." "I have heard she was a psychopath in her previous life..." "She is terrifying..."

Naeun ignores the comments and drags herself to her vanity van. Sitting on the chair, she clutches her stomach which pains from laughing so much.

What the hell is her soulmate doing? Do they want her to die, laughing? But she sighs, she lost another drama...thanks to her soulmate.

. . .

"Naeun, have we gone too easy on you, huh? I shouldn't have allowed you so much freedom, fame has gotten into your head. What you've been doing is extremely unprofessional! Laughing on a senior? The next thing I know is that you laugh as soon as you get out of this room.." The Vice-President sighs. Naeun doesn't say anything and he just gestures her to walk out of the room. "I don't even want to see your face, right now."

Naeun timidly walks outside his room, keeping her head down and refusing to meet anyone's gaze. But a few steps towards the elevator and she feels laughter bubbling back in her throat again and she laughs.

"How dare you! Don't come back to work tomorrow!" she hears the Vice-President yell from his office as she hurries off to her agency's cafe. She expects peace here, but unfortunately one of her seniors call her out.

"Yo Naeun, get me a glass of water," he says and Naeun gulps, irritation rising in her blood. When she looks around the cafe, all eyes were on her, as if they were waiting for her to do it. What else she can do anyway? She brings him a glass of water, turns around to find herself a seat when she hears the clinking sound of something falling on the floor.

"Oops, can you pick up the fork, Naeun?"

Naeun turns around and sees the fork beside his shoes. She hesitates. It's a matter of her dignity. But this is her life. It has always been. She is a good for nothing.

It is surprising when she feels her anger rise as if someone turned on a switch in her. It rises to such a point within a few seconds that she walks to her senior and slams her palm on the table.

"You popsicle looking donut. Having too much fun ordering someone around?"

The said popsicle donut looks wide-eyed at his junior. She is really crazy like people had said. He just wanted to get on her nerves, what the hell is she?

"You want a fork?" Naeun says and leans towards him. Her senior scoots back when she sees her hand fishing out a fork from the cutlery stand kept on the table. "Here it is."  and she stabs the fork, through the wooden table, right beside his hand.

The senior screams in fear and jumps, as if the fork was pierced right through him. He turns to stare at Naeun in shock. Naeun drops the fork immediately,  feeling her anger dissipate and realising what she has just done. She runs out of the canteen, straight to the rooftop.

It's almost like she has multiple personalities.

She exhales as soon as she reaches the open space, panting, slightly breathless. She needs to get hold of her emotions. If she doesn't, her life is going to be ruined. It happens all too fast then.

She walks towards the railing when her eyes meet a man's. He has a mask on but his eyes are glued to her. A spark of emotions flashes through their eyes. A burst of happiness, love, lust and passion spread through their body. Unexplainable, but present. She recognises those eyes, she thinks.

They do not hesitate.

The man strides towards her and cups her face in his hands. Naeun pulls his mask down and before she could react to the familiar face, he touches her. His fingers perfectly fit between the spaces of hers, she tries to wake herself, it has to be a dream. He tilts his head and she knows it was the time but his eyes were locked, gazing right into hers.

He slowly leans forward and embraces her in his arms. His hands tightly hold her waist and he has her in his charm. She notices that he smells like exotic amber and if she smells even an inch like him, maybe he'd fall in love with her, but the chances were slim. Then what is this feeling?

She put her hand on his chest, only to know if his heart was beating as fast as hers. He spaced his fingers and thumb apart on her neck, he put it forth which gives her the ultimate chills. She slowly tiptoes and places her feet between his. Now they are closer than before and nothing has ever felt as right as this.

She blinked her eyes and his smile widened. He slowly placed his lips on hers.

But it wasn't gentle anymore. The urge increases twofold as soon as he starts sucking on her lower lip. She slips in her tongue and he carefully caresses it with his.

And when they part, they know it.

"Hey, soulmate."

"Hi...Jhope sunbae."
