07 | All it takes is a dream

"It feels good." Jin mumbles. "Soft."

"No shit," Hayoung chuckles, "You're literally squishing me here."

Jin laughs, the vibrations sending shivers down Hayoung's spine. She smiles, passing her fingers through her boyfriend's hair, tugging at the longer ones near his nape. He hisses, looking up at her before placing a kiss on her chin. She chuckles before pulling the comforter over them.

"Should we watch a movie?" he asks. Hayoung looks at him pointedly, not caring if the position makes it look like she has a double chin. She knows he doesn't want to, probably just asking because he can.

"How about we spend our day in bed, doing nothing?

"See, this is why I love you. That's like a good idea, only you can come up with." Jin places his forehead against Hayoung's temple, before pecking her cheek. It makes Hayoung warm, giddy and she can't help but laugh at him. "Such a sweet talker you are, aren't you?"

"Only for you."

Hayoung rolls her eyes, "Jin, you literally blow kisses to every camera."

Jin presses his smile against her temple, mumbling something about him being sleepy. Hayoung doesn't move, doesn't close her eyes as well, just staring at her boyfriend. It's been four years, already and he is still the same.

She yawns but refuses to let her eyes close. She can't sleep right now. She maybe hasn't slept for a day or two now. You know I love you, right? She stretches her neck to place her lips against Jin's. He's sleeping but he still seems to respond by applying some pressure against hers.

It makes her smile. They haven't gotten a chance to spend time together for months now, just small midnight rendezvous at the dorm whenever possible. But not like this, at peace and in bed. They have missed each other so much.

Jin's phone buzzes against the table, indicating an incoming call. Hayoung sighs, thankfully it was on vibration or Jin would have woken up. He looked like he really needed the rest. She attempts to reach it without moving much and successfully gets the phone in her hand.

It's Yoongi. She panics. Why is he calling Jin now? Perhaps did he...?

She lets the call be missed, staring blankly at the screen. Having Jin just beside her is not helping at all. When Jin starts to shuffle around, Hayoung takes it as a perfect opportunity to get out of his hold.

She walks to the balcony, carefully closing the glass behind her before calling Yoongi back. When the call gets accepted, she speaks. "Hello..."

"Hyung— Ahh, no wait, Hayoung?"

"Yes..." and Hayoung wonders why everything she seems to speak sounds like a whisper. Yoongi doesn't speak for a few moments, the silence torturing and nerve-wracking.

"Have you been good?"

"Yes...good." Hayoung exhales. "Jin is actually asleep, he was too tired. Is there anything you want me to say to him?"

"Yeah, no..." Hayoung grips the railing tight, "Could you just ask him to call me back?"

For some reason, that sends chills down her spine and freezes her on spot. She hates that. Before she could reply, Yoongi hangs up, leaving Hayoung to stare at the phone in her hand. A hand slips around her waist, chin hooking on her shoulder as Jin presses his cheek against hers.

"Why aren't you in bed, with me?"

Hayoung shudders, praying Jin doesn't notice it. "Didn't wanna wake you up. Yoongi had called." she shows him his phone. Jin hums. "He asked you to call him back."

He hums again before slowly rocking their bodies from side to side. "Should we go on a vacation?"

Hayoung doesn't realise she's holding back her tears until he says that. She can't help it anymore but turns her face away. Jin doesn't realise and takes it as an opportunity to bury his face in her neck. "I miss spending time with you. I am on a break anyway. We could go somewhere. Just you and me."

No, don't say that. Don't say anything like that. Don't say anything. Hayoung squeezes her eyes shut. Jin is still swaying their bodies to some imaginary music until his hand comes up to cup her chin. He tries to move her face towards him so he could kiss her but when she doesn't let him do that, he steps back.

"What's wrong," he says immediately, turning Hayoung around by her shoulders. He widens his eyes when he sees Hayoung crying, hand squeezing her skin. "Why? What's wrong?... Do you not want to go on a vacation? We can stay at home then—"

"Everything," Hayoung interrupts, her voice sounding mumbled because of crying. "Everything is wrong Jin."

Jin stills, everything is wrong. It pierces right through his heart. He probably knows where this is going. He should have expected this to come up after he told her that Jimin and Taehyung found their soulmates.

"I don't know babe, what are you talking about–"

"You very well know what I am talking about!" Hayoung pulls away from his hold completely. A wave of coldness rushes to her, gooseflesh trickling down her arms. It's not winter yet. "You know! You very well know..." her voice turns to a whisper when her words trail off.

"Hayoung, look I know, I know you–"

"You haven't aged one bit since you turned eighteen." Hayoung doesn't let him finish, " Not even after you met me."

Jin sighs. He brings his hands up to touch her, to comfort her or more like himself and opens his mouth to speak but she doesn't let him.

"We aren't soulmates," she deadpans and Jin's hands fall to his sides. "How long are we going to deny that, ignore that and pretend like everything will be fine?"

Jin's face hardens. "We aren't pretending that...at least I am not. I know that everything will be okay, we don't have to worry—"

"It's not fine Jin! It's not." Hayoung yells, tears pouring down her cheeks.

Jin backs away, clenching his teeth. Of course, he knows that, but how does it matter? Does it matter if they aren't soulmates? Can't they be happy like the people who have not been destined with another person? Can't they write their own fate?

"Come with me," Hayoung wipes her tears with the back of her hand and wraps her fingers around his wrist, pulling him inside the room— straight to the bathroom. Her hold is strong, it makes Jin wince. She turns him towards the mirror and points."Look at yourself."

"What are you trying to do Hayoung?" Jin asks sternly, refusing to see himself. He damn well knows how he looks like. But then Hayoung cups his face, Jin exhales, looking at her with furrowed eyebrows and turns his face to the mirror.

"Do you see that Jin? You haven't changed at all. You look just like you are a teen, with not a single wrinkle or any sign of you crossing thirties. You have the same energy as an eighteen-year-old..."

It is not a big deal, Jin thinks. People look and feel young in their thirties too. "You didn't even start growing a beard yet."

Jin sighs, looking at her in the mirror. Hayoung lets him go, before gathering water in her palms and aggressively splashing it against her face. Jin widens his eyes, immediately turning to her.

"What are you doing?" Jin shouts, trying to hold her wrist and stopping her from rubbing her face so harshly. She pushes his hands away, Jin gulps under her stare before watching her splash more water on her face. She turns the tap off, before looking at him.

He closes his eyes, he can't see her this way.

She stands there with cakey blotches of concealer on her cheeks and forehead, mascara under her eyes, lipstick smudged and teary eyes.

"Look at me Jin," she places her hands on his shoulders. Jin shudders but does not open his eyes. "Look at me!" she shakes him by his shoulder, breaking down in tears completely. "Look at me..."

Jin opens his eyes, tears pooling in them. Hayoung rests her forehead against his shoulder, crying. Jin doesn't touch her.

"I got an anti-wrinkle treatment last week...I get tired very easily nowadays...I have been ageing just like one should... I am not your soulmate, Jin. I am not. "

"And why does it matter?" Jin gulps and looks up towards the ceiling to stop his tears from falling down. "All that matter is that we love each other, right?"

"It's not that easy Jin."

"Love is not that easy, love."

Hayoung grips the platform beside her before she looks into his eyes. She has to, she needs to tell him. Jin notices that and decides to calm down.

"Recently, I have been having these dreams...Jin..." she gulps, hesitating to continue. " They are so dark, absolutely nothing...but the other day..."

Jin doesn't speak anything, waiting for her to continue.

"Yesterday I saw a different kind of dream...I don't really recall it but...I think it was Genius Lab..."

"Genius lab? Like Yoongi's studio?"

Hayoung nods. "I thought it was nothing until yesterday, I saw it again. No wonder I started feeling weird urges..."

"I am not following you here, what do you mean?"

"Jin...I think those dreams are of my soulmate," Hayoung closes her eyes. Jin raises his brows, then how is it related to Yoongi's studio?

"And I think that...Yoongi's my soulmate."
