Raven lets out a scream and squeezes my hand harshly as Clarke burns her wound closed.

"That should stop the external bleeding" The blonde says.

"I don't understand. How did Murphy get a gun?" Finn asks, holding Raven's other hand.

"Long story" Bellamy says simply.

"We got lucky. If Murphy hit the fuel tank instead of me, we'd all be dead" Raven explains.

"Wait, there's rocket fuel down there?" Clarke asks in surprise and Raven nods.

"Enough to build a bomb?" I ask curiously.

"Enough to build a hundred bombs, if we had any gun powder left" Raven tells us.

"Let's get back to the reapers. Maybe they'll help us. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, right?" Bellamy states and I snort loudly.

"Attractive, Ava" Bellamy says sarcastically and I elbow him.

"That's real cute, Bell. The reapers aren't gonna help us. They're animals" I scoff.

"We saw them. Trust me, it's not an option" Clarke agrees.

"There's no time for this. Can she walk or not?" Finn asks Clarke.

"No. We have to carry her" Clarke sighs.

"The hell you will. I'm good to go" Raven protests, trying to sit up.

"Hey, listen to me. That bullet is still inside you. If by some miracle there's no internal bleeding, it might hold until we get somewhere safe. But you are not walking there. Is that clear?" Clarke says sternly and Raven nods in defeat, reluctantly laying down.

"I'll get the stretcher" Finn says, running off.

"Can't run away fast enough, huh?" Bellamy comments and Finn hears it, walking back to us.

"Real brave" Bellamy scoffs sarcastically.

"Dying in a fight you can't win isn't brave, Bellamy, it's stupid" Finn argues.

"Spoken like every coward who's ever run from a fight" Bellamy retorts, walking up to Finn.

"All right, that's enough!" Clarke shouts and the boys glare at each other.

"You heard, blondie. Quit being dicks!" I demand, pushing them apart.

"It's time to go" Clarke states.

"If they follow?" Bellamy replies "It's a one hundred and twenty mile walk to the ocean"

"Look, we're wasting time! If he wants to stay, he can stay" Finn snaps.

"Like hell he can" I retort, turning to Bellamy.

"Get your ass in gear! We're leaving and you're coming with us" I order sternly before walking out of the drop ship, not leaving any room to argue.

I find Octavia who slings her sword over her back and she turns to see me.

"Hey, how's Raven?" She asks.

"She's gonna be okay. She's a fighter" I tell the girl who smiles.

"Yeah, she is" Octavia agrees.

I sit down on the stone i've sat on many times and Octavia sits next to me.

"What's on your mind?" She questions me.

"Why is your brother so determined to get himself killed?" I groan.

"I could say the same about you" She smirks.

"I do it for good reasons" I argue.

"Most of the time, so does he" She counters.

"He's a dumbass" I state, looking out at everyone packing their things.

"He's your dumbass" Octavia corrects and my lips tug up at one side.

"If he tries to stay behind I will kick his ass for making me stay here while everyone else runs off to freedom" I grumble.

"He's not making you stay" Octavia points out and nudges me.

"Well, I can't just leave him here" I scoff, looking at the girl.

She grins widely at me and I roll my eyes at her.

"Stop looking at me like that" I whine.

"Damn, you've really caught feelings for him, haven't you?" She asks.

"I hate him" I answer with a smile on my face.

Octavia lets out a laugh and I tackle the girl to the floor. We roll around in the dirt until I'm lifted off her.

"Save it for the grounders" Bellamy states sternly and Octavia smirks at me, wiggling her eyebrows.

I gasp, smacking her arm and she laughs, walking away from us.

"What was that?" Bellamy asks me in confusion.

"What was what?" I counter, acting clueless.

"The look she gave you, what did that mean?" He questions me.

"We were just talking" I shrug vaguely.

"What about?" He asks curiously.

"Y'know, girl talk" I grin cheekily.

"Do I happen to come up during girl talk?" He smirks.

"Maybe" I smirk back.

Suddenly his expression becomes serious and he grabs my waist.

"What's wrong, Bell?" I ask him with a frown.

"If we don't make it to this damn ocean I want you to know that I care about you, okay? I won't ever stop caring about you" He tells me and my heart melts at his words.

"I care about you too, Bell" I smile warmly.

He places a sweet kiss on my lips and I savour the feeling, hoping it won't be our last.

I hear the gate open and everyone starts leaving. Bellamy walks over to the middle of camp and I walk to the gate, turning to wait for him.

Clarke walks up to him and I don't know what she says but it seems to ease his tension which I'm grateful for.

He picks up a barrel of water and tips it onto the fire, letting it sizzle down into smoke. He throws the barrel and they both turn to walk towards me.

Clarke shoots me a smile and I return it, walking in step with them as we exit camp.

After a short while I jog up ahead, catching up with Octavia who is leading the trek. She grins at me and I wink at her, hopping over a log.

"You know the first thing i'm gonna do when we get to the beach?" Miller speaks.

"No. What?" Drew asks.

"I want to go surfing" Miller replies, making me smile.

"Quiet! Keep your eyes open!" Jasper hisses.

"No more woods. A view of the ocean. No more damn trees, just pale, blue water" Drew states.

"I think I'm gonna miss the trees" I admit and Miller looks at me as if I'm crazy.

Octavia holds out her hand, stopping everyone and I look around for what she's seen.

"What is it?" Jasper whispers.

"Shh" I reply, listening for any noises.

"I don't see anything" Jasper mumbles.

Out of the distance I see something getting closer but by the time I realise that it's a blade it hits Drew in the face.

The boy hits the ground with the wheel cut half way through his head and everyone jumps back in fear.

"Grounders!" Jasper screams and everyone starts running back to camp.

"Move! Move! Move!" Bellamy barks as he ushers every one inside.

"I don't see anyone!" Jasper shouts.

"They're right behind us!" Octavia screeches.

"Hurry the fuck up!" I scream.

"Shut the gate! Shut the gate!" Finn hollers.

I scramble up beside Bellamy who is looking over the wall and I don't see anyone, making me all the more anxious.

"Where are they? Why aren't they attacking?" Bellamy questions

"Because we're doing exactly what they wanted us to do" I hear Clarke's voice from behind me.

"What do you mean?" I ask in confusion as the girl stands on the other side of me.

"Lincoln said the scouts would be the first to arrive!" Clarke shouts down to Finn and Octavia.

"If it's just scouts, we can fight our way out! That's what Lincoln would do!" Octavia says and I nod in agreement.

"We're done doing what that grounder would do! We tried it and now Drew is dead. You want to be next?" Bellamy declares, hopping off the wall.

"That grounder saved our lives! I agree with Octavia. For all we know, there's one scout out there" Finn reasons.

"One scout with insanely good aim" Jasper fires back.

"Clarke, we can still do this" Octavia pleads.

"Looking to you, princess. What's it gonna be? Run and get picked off out in the open, or stand and fight back?" Bellamy asks Clarke.

The blonde looks at me for my opinion and I let out a breath of defeat.

"I think going out there is a bad idea, blondie. Us running around like headless chickens as they kill us off does not sound fun" I shrug and she nods, looking over the wall behind us.

She jumps down and Finn grabs her arm with a pleading expression.

"Clarke. If we're still here when Tristan gets here-" Finn is cut off.

"Lincoln said 'scouts'. More than one. He said 'Get home before the scouts arrive'. Finn, they're already here!" She protests.

"Looks like you got your fight, freckles" I say, jumping down in front of him.

"Okay, then. This is what we've been preparing for. Kill them before they kill us! Gunners, to your posts. Use the tunnels to get in and out. From now on, the gate stays closed!" Bellamy orders everyone and they all start running to their posts.

Octavia rushes towards one of the tunnels and Bellamy grabs her.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. You're not a gunner" He tells his sister.

"No, i'm not. Like you said...I'm a grounder" She says and the pride in me swells up.

She runs off and I turn my proud grin to Bellamy who looks unimpressed.

"You're a terrible influence on her" He states and I gasp dramatically.

"You can't blame that on me. She's her own person" I argue and he shakes his head at me.

"All right! Let's get to those foxholes!" Bellamy barks to the rest of the camp.

"So, how the hell do we do this?" Clarke asks and I look at Bellamy curiously, wanting to know the same thing.

"Drop ship" He states and we follow him inside.

Bellamy, Finn, Clarke, Raven and I all gather around the table that holds the mini version of our camp. Raven takes a seat and I stand in between Finn and Bellamy who seem to like arguing.

"We've got twenty five rifles with twenty rounds each, give or take. Roughly five hundred rounds of ammo. While you three were gone, we made some improvements. Thanks to Raven, the gully is mined" Bellamy explains.

I look at the mines through the gully and gulp in awe as I stare at the spot i'd unknowingly ran through earlier today.

i could've been blown to smithereens

"Partially mined. Thanks to Murphy" Raven corrects.

"Still, it's the main route in. If the grounders use it, we'll know. She also built grenades" Bellamy tells us, picking one up.

"It's not many" Clarke says and I have to agree.

"Again, thank you, Murphy" Raven says sarcastically.

"We'll make them count. If the grounders make it through the front gate, guns and grenades should force them back" Bellamy states.

"And then?" Clarke asks.

"Then we close the door and pray" Raven answers.

"And pray what? That the ship keeps them out? Because it won't" Clarke speaks authoritatively.

"Then let's not let them get through the gate" Bellamy states.

"Please tell me that's not the plan" I groan.

"Sorry, Ava" Raven says and I shake my head.

"All foxholes, listen up. Keep your eyes and ears open. Inflict casualties, as many as possible. You can hold them off long enough to make them turn back. That's the plan" Bellamy speaks into the walkie talkie

"That's always your plan, just like the bomb at the bridge" Finn complains.

"Damn right. You got a better idea?" Bellamy retorts.

"It can't be that simple" Clarke murmurs.

"Clarke, what is going on in that pretty little head of yours?" I ask curiously and she looks at Raven.

"You said there's rocket fuel in those rockets, right? Enough to build a hundred bombs" Clarke questions.

"I also said we've got no gunpowder left" Raven counters.

"I don't want to build a bomb. I want to blast off" Clarke states.

I figure out what the blonde is talking about and I gasp in realisation.

"You're a genius, blondie!" I snap and she smiles at me.

"Draw them in close. Fire the rockets. A ring of fire" Raven mumbles.

"Barbecued grounders. I like it" Bellamy nods.

"Will it work?" Finn asks.

"Remember who you're talking to, Collins" I joke, elbowing him and Raven grins.

"The wiring's a mess down there, but yeah. You give me enough time, i'll cook them real good" She tells us all.
