"Miller!" I hear a boy yell as I finish tying the laces on my boot.

"Look who finally got released" I hear Jasper comment.

"Hey, Nathan!" I tease the boy and he smiles.

He opens his arms and I let out a short laugh, hugging him.

"Look. I never got to say it before but, thank you. If you hadn't pulled me in that drop ship when you did, i'd be dead right now" I tell the boy and he rubs my arm.

"You're a pain in my ass, but we need you" He replies.

"You'd do just fine without me" I assure him but she shakes his head.

"We need you just as much as we need Clarke" He says and I smile softly.

"When did you get so soft?" I joke, slapping his arm.

"Shut up" He laughs.

"Miller" Clarke greets him "I'm glad you're okay"

"Yeah. Only took, what, three surgeries?" He jokes looking at Maya who nods with a smile.

"I hear you two are fitting right in" The boy says sarcastically, looking between Clarke and I.

Clarke shoots Maya an accusing glare while I turn to Miller.

"Haha" I say sarcastically and he grins.

"Twice a day. Don't forget. You'll be okay in a few days" Maya tells Miller, handing him an orange bottle of pills and a bag "Here"

"Thanks" He replies.

"Maya! Top of the morning...is a very dumb thing to say that I saw in an old movie once" Jasper drawls off, his voice getting harder to hear as he walks with Maya.

I nudge Clarke who is giving Maya a death glare and she looks at me questioningly.

"What?" She huffs.

"Ease up. The girl's doing her job" I find myself saying and Clarke rolls her eyes.

My head shoots up in surprise as an alarm starts blaring loudly. Maya rushes to leave the dorm but Clarke jumps down from her top bunk to stop the girl.

"Hey! What's going on?" Clarke asks.

"That signal means the surface patrol is back and someone needs medical attention" Maya explains "I have to go to quarantine"

Maya runs off and Clarke makes a move to follow but Jasper grabs her arm.

"Hey, Clarke. What are you doing?" He snaps.

"Maybe they found survivors. If our people are hurt, we have a right to know" Clarke snaps back.

"I'm pretty sure we shouldn't just go w-" Jasper says but Clarke doesn't let him finish before storming off.

"Wandering around" He huffs out.

"Let's go, Jas" I tell him, tugging on his arm before running after Clarke.

The three of us race down the halls as fast as we can until we come across people getting into hazmat suits.

"Who attacked them?!" Clarke asks the man in charge.

"What are they doing here?" The man snaps at Maya.

Clarke grabs someone's key card out their pocket and the man's eyes widen.

"Hey, stop! It's not safe!" The man shouts as we walk over to the door.

"It is for us!" Clarke retorts.

"Let's go" She says to us as she swipes the card.

"Someone's gotta keep them out of trouble" I hear Jasper tell them as Clarke and I run up the stairs.

We reach the white halls of quarantine and I skid around the corner.

"Slow down!" Jasper snaps.

Clarke pushes open a door and Jasper huffs behind me.

"Stop pushing so hard! These people are-" He stops as we enter the room to see a body lay down, covered with plastic.

Clarke steps forward and looks at the wound on the guy's chest angrily.

"Are lying to us! That's a bullet wound!" She retorts.

"Grounders don't use guns!" She adds.

"Unless the grounders got the guns from us" Jasper mumbles, looking at the body.

"Grounders won't touch a gun! It's forbidden" I state.

"I think our people are alive out there" Clarke says to us.

"Get them out of here!" I hear a voice shout behind me and turn to see Dr Tsing in a hazmat suit.

Doctors bring through a man that's covered in burns, my eyes widening at his state as we're ushered out of quarantine and urged to head towards the dining hall.

Jasper heads off to sit with Monty while I stick with Clarke who I know is not done investigating the subject. She storms over to Dante and I roll my eyes, following her there.

I am sick of following this girl around like a puppy but she's the only other one here who doesn't trust these guys

"We need to talk" I hear Clarke state and I focus on the conversation.

"Sure. Let's talk over breakfast" Dante suggests.

"Who shot that soldier?" She snaps, getting right to the point.

Dante let's out a sigh and grabs Clarke's arm gently, tugging her away to the side. I walk with them and he looks between us before speaking up.

"The patrol that was looking for your people was attacked by what you call grounders" Dante explains but I call bullshit.

"Grounders would never use guns" I spit.

"I never mentioned guns. Sergeant Shaw was shot by an arrow" Dante assures me like I'm a child which only angers me further.

"That's not true. I...I saw the wound" Clarke butts in.

"Sometimes, we feel so strongly about our people we see things that aren't there" Dante says.

"Are you saying we're crazy?" I sneer in disbelief and Clarke grabs my wrist to hold me back.

"I'd like to see the body" She says calmly.

"Of course" Dante nods.

Dante puts down his plate and walks towards us.

"Come with me" He states.

He puts his hand on my back but I shrug him off, walking forward without them. Dante soon catches up with Clarke and he stays a little further ahead. We enter the same white room and Dante exits.

"What do you think?" I hear Clarke ask me.

"I think everyone is lying their asses off. Someone from the Ark has to have survived" I answer.

Before Clarke can speak again, Dante enters the room.

"Dr Tsing will be through in a moment" He announces.

We wait in the room in silence until the door opens and Dr Tsing appears, wheeling in a table covered in white cloth.

"Sorry to keep you waiting. We had to finish decontamination" She tells us.

"Thank you, Dr Tsing" Dante smiles.

"The man with the burns, how is he?" Clarke asks.

"He's improving" Dr Tsing replies after glancing at Dante.

sketchy bitch

"I'd like to talk to him" Clarke says.

"Sir, only patients are allowed in medical" Dr Tsing tells Dante, looking up at him.

"We can arrange that" Dante tells Clarke, ignoring the doctor.

Dr Tsing removes the white sheet, revealing the man under it. I first notice a small silver object on his chest which makes me furrow my brows in confusion.

"What is this?" Clarke asks, pointing at the silver piece attached to his chest.

"It's a dialysis shunt. We all have them in case of exposure" Dr Tsing replies.

"Would you like to see the exit wound?" The woman asks us.

"Yes" I say shortly.

She pulls him over with help from Dante and I take a good look at the exit wound.

"Sergeant Langston was forced to push the arrow out in the field" Dr Tsing explains.

"Thank you, sir" She thanks Dante as they place the man down on his back.

"Where's the arrow now?" I ask curiously.

"We've got it right here" The doctor tells me.

She walks over and opens up a cupboard door, pulling out a plastic bag. She hands Clarke the bag and the blonde looks it over before passing it to me.

I look at it carefully and notice the arrow looks nothing at all like my own who happen to have been made by a grounder. I shrug, handing the doctor the bag back.

"Is that all?" She asks and I nod, turning to Clarke who does the same.

"Thank you" Clarke says and we exit the room.

As we're walking down the stairs the older blonde grabs my arm.

"I seen the look on your face when you saw that arrow. What aren't you telling me?" She questions curiously.

"It's too perfect. My own look nothing like that, Clarke, and Nova made them herself" I explain.

Clarke nods in understanding and we make our way back to the dorms.

"What did President Wallace say?" Jasper asks, perking up.

"He showed us Shaw's body. It looked like an arrow wound" Clarke huffs out as we walk.

We reach our beds and I lean against them in annoyance.

"Well, maybe because it is an arrow wound" Jasper replies.

"Or that's what they want us to think" I mumble and Jasper looks exasperated.

"What? They could have doctored it" Clarke agrees with me.

"Guys, you sound like crazy people. Why do you want to screw this up for us?" Jasper asks us, looking hurt.

"I don't know what this is" Clarke says in frustration.

"This is...safe. This is food, a real bed, clothes and my personal favourite, not getting speared by grounders. How long do you think they'll let us stay here if you keep this up?" He rants.

"Did someone threaten you?" Clarke asks and I look at the boy worriedly.

"Heh. No. No, it's common sense" Jasper scoffs "Look. We're guests here, not prisoners. What would you do with a guest who kept calling you a liar and generally acted like an ungrateful ass?"

"Kick that ungrateful ass out" I hear Miller answer and I look down to see him reading a book on his bed.

"Right now, the biggest threat to us is you two" Jasper states before walking away.

I lay in my bed, staring up at the bunk in front of me when I hear a pained groan.

I pull myself out of bed and look over to see Clarke holding her arm with a pained look on her face. I get closer to see her stitches have been torn open and she's bleeding badly.

"What the hell have you done?" I hiss.

"Only patients are allowed in medical" She mumbles.

"Quick, before they come" She says, handing me a pencil.

"What on God's earth am I supposed to do with this?" I scoff.

She gives me a stern look and I groan, glaring at her. I pull up my sleeves and look down at my arm. I hesitate and Clarke grabs the pencil out my hand, raising it up.

"Wait!" I squeak and she gives me a frustrated look.

"Knock me out" I tell her and she looks puzzled.

"Knock. Me. Out" I repeat, talking to her like she's a child.

She grabs my head and gives me an expectant look to which I nod at her to let her know I'm ready.

so help me god if this is for nothing I will knock her out

My head comes into contact with the metal on the bunk bed and my vision goes blurry.

The last thing I see is Clarke collapsing next to me before everything goes black.
