"AJ, how about this? She'd look nice in this!" Rainbow yelled to her farmgirl friend at the other side of the store.
"No! Rarity doesn't wear flannels! Ah wear flannels!" Applejack shook her head, and continued her search for clothes.
Christmas was approaching fast, and it was tradition for both girls to go Christmas shopping together. They had found a gift for each of their friends, apart from Rarity.
"Ugh, can't we just get her some socks?" Rainbow groaned.
AJ chuckled, "Yeah, cause Rarity would love a pair of socks for Christmas..." she said, lying.
"Was that.... sarcasm Applejack!?" Rainbow laughed. "I mean, what would Rarity say if we got her some socks?
Applejack then took it a step further. She took off her hat and cleared her throat.
"Darlings! These socks don't go with my complexion, darling!" Applejack imitated Rarity. It wasn't perfect, you could definielty still hear AJ's thick country accent, but it sent Dash into fits of laughter.
"Hehe..." Rainbow giggled. She wandered around the store and actually found a pair of socks. She then threw them over the racks of clothes and the socks landed perfectly on Applejack's head.
"What if we get her these socks...? Seriously! It's funny!" Rainbow Dash smirked, and Applejack removed the socks from her head, before glancing back at Dash.
"Really?"
"Yeah!" Rainbow began to start laughing again before she saw Applejack's smug glance. Rainbow sighed, "Fine... I'll get the socks... You can get her some perfume or something."
AJ shook her head. Rainbow was always coming up with crazy ideas, so this wasn't any different.
In the end, they left the mall with a small gift for each of their friends; plus a pair of glow in the dark socks and some perfume for Rarity...
"Ah can't believe you bought her socks for Christmas.... That's like, the classic 'do-not-buy' gift...." AJ sighed, with a smile on her face.
"Seems pretty believable to me!" the rainbow-haired girl yelled back.
They walked in silence for a few minutes. It wasn't awkward silence; they were both just preoccupied with their own thoughts.
"Oh yeah! Dash, ah forgot to tell ya about what's gonna happen at Christmas on the farm this year!" Applejack began.
Rainbow Dash beamed. She had observed that AJ always got excited when she was talking about her family, or her farm. Dash found it very amusing.
"Oh?" Rainbow answered.
Applejack cleared her throat, "So, it's gonna be super cold this year apparently, and it's already snowy, which means a lot of our family won't be able to make it to Sweet Apple Acres for our traditional family Christmas, due to plains being cancelled n' all..."
"Aw, that sucks!"
"It does. But it also means we have plenty of spare seats at the table this year. If you and yer folks are interested, y'all can come to the farm and spend Christmas with us? Only if you want to...." Applejack asked.
In all honesty, she wanted Rainbow to come. There would still be some of AJ's cousins or uncles or aunts and so on lurking around, but if Dash was there things would be so so much better. AJ also intended on inviting her other five friends... but Rainbow was her closest friend, so she came first..
Rainbow scoffed, "Duh! You think I wouldn't want to come?!"
AJ laughed in relief, "So you'll be there then? Ah'll tell the family." She smiled.
"Of course! AJ, you know I wouldn't miss out on something like that," Dash grinned. She began kicking a stone along the path.
After ten minutes of walking, they realised that neither of them actually knew where they were going. They agreed that it was too cold to continue walking, and as they were close enough, decided to head to Sunset's house. They were always welcome there.
When they arrived, they were greeted by a red-yellow haired girl, Sunset Shimmer, one of their close friends from school.
"Hey you guys! Come in, it's freezing out there..." Sunset laughed, making space for them to get through. She shut the door behind them and boiled the kettle to prepare a hot chocolate for each of them. Winter was always really enjoyable, and mostly because without question, you could pretty much always be drinking hot cocoa and watching movies under blankets. In Sunset's opinion, and I'm sure others would agree, it's the best time of the year.
