On the vast, green planet of AUREUM, there's a large island that is surrounded by a river that prevents the rapidly growing forest from making it inhabitable along with the rest of the world. Civilizations formed on the safe lands, preserving the mystical river and the island's natural resources to last for generations. Major cities were founded, each having their own ideals, cultures, and architecture as time passed on.

Everyone lived their peaceful lives on the island, but scientists were determined to research more about the large forest. They wanted to find ways to make it possible to expand off of the the safe boundaries of the river. Why did the river repel the overgrown nature of the planet? Why does the forest never stop growing? These were questions that have never been answered and this group wanted to figure it out. The researchers even managed to build a protected lab off of the island where they did tests, experiments, etc.

Unfortunately, during their research, one individual had their own experiments which they kept from the rest of the group. The scientists hated the idea of the risk of potentially threatening the safety of the lab and people on the island, so they kept it a secret with the hope of making history and gaining fame for their discovery. The experiment terribly failed, resulting in a disease that affected nearly everyone who was researching in the lab. The disease continued to cause a crucial event in Aureum's history.

No cure has been found and the scientist who caused it was never caught. It's a mystery for everyone. Society was no longer safe on the island, but eventually they were able to adjust and create new protocols to prevent it's spread as much as possible. The damage was still detrimental, though. Scientists now put all of their work onto understanding the new disease, but barely any progress has been made.

Fifty years later in the present day, many people are able to live their normal lives, but the sickness is still entirely present too. In SYNCHRONICITIES, we follow the story of two high school sweethearts who are reunited, trying to catch up for lost time and possibly relighting the spark that died years before. One is an aspiring artist. The other is striving to solve Aureum's biggest mystery. As secrets unfold, it's uncertain where their relationship will go.

Will the truth be too overwhelming to take in?

MESSAGE FROM THE OWNER WHAT'S GOOD I'M MAKING A NEW FIC! i've tried to make original stories for years now and now i've finally made one where i wont give up (hopefully)! i literally came up with most of this over a month ago half asleep at 4 am. i've been cooking on synchronicities for a while now with so much planning so i actually know what to write. this is fantasy/futuristic(?) and all the "major cities" i was mentioning are gonna be based off of asian countries. i tried to name the cities after plants that originate from the inspired country, but it was honestly so hard to find something that sounded unique and cool. if my little synopsis was confusing, trust it will make sense in the chapters. also please praise me for the way i formatted this intro chapter. am i creative to make this chapter feel like an art museum bc i thought the idea was fire. if you recognize who i used in the collages for hiro and xinyi, you are crazy but wow! they are not the actual fcs for the characters i was just using the images for aesthetics lawl. i feel like this message is too long GOODBYE I HOPE YOU READ THIS STORY IF I DONT GIVE UP

WARNINGS angst probably, alcohol/drinking, smoking, bad grammar tbh, violence, death, slow updates bc im busy or lazy, diseases, mlp infection but with humans basically haha

INSPIRED BY the jasmine throne (book by tasha suri), the poppy war (book by r.f. kuang), the last of us, my little pony LMFAO, and a little bit of genshin impact/atla idk
