"Mikasa told me what happened. Is Papi okay ?" Connie came up behind you, draping his arm across your shoulder.
"Probably not," you respond, still looking down the road that Papi drove off in a red Chevy on not too long ago. You were dwelling on every feeling that you felt right now. You loved Sasha to death but right now you knew that if you spent any time near her, you would punch her lights out.
"Don't worry yourself about it. It's something they have to figure out," Connie's hands ran up and down your arm.
"It's not about that, Connie. She was really outta pocket and now I'm worried about Papi."
"Worried ?" he reiterated.
"Yeah. I've never seen him look like that and something feels.. weird."
"Well if you want, I'll go get a water and we can sit and talk about it near that bonfire over there," he points behind him.
You nodded and the both of you walked over to the bonfire to sit. You plopped yourself down on the sand mixed with little pebbles, running your fingers through it. Connie sat right next to you, immediately having his hand find its way onto your thigh.
The two of you began having a discussion about what had happened. And were in complete agreement that Sasha took it too far. Though it was a not so happy moment, Connie found beauty in the way you were so considerate of a friend's feelings.
Also after talking, you realized that you should've went with him. When emotional Papi can be a little bit of a hothead. Hell, even when he's not emotional he still can be one.
"I think Imma go meet him at the house, just in case." You unravel yourself from underneath Connie's touch.
"I'll come with you," he offered.
"Nah you need to help Nicki, Mikasa, and Armin with everyone. I just have to get my sister's keys." You and Connie walked back onto the boat where everyone else was.
"Is everything cool," Nicki came up to you.
"Yeah Imma just head home. Can I use your car ?"
She nods and hands you the pink keys that matched her car. With that, Connie walked you back to the parking lot and you began the drive back to your mom's house to meet Papi.
You turned the radio to be a little lower and put the windows down. The distant flash of red and blue lights caught your attention as you slowly began to approach them.
(play the song now)
It was a car wreck. And you would've drove right past it if you didn't see a familiar red Chevy flipped over on its hood. A deep weird churning feeling erupted in your stomach. You decided to park on the side behind the cop cars before getting out of the car.
"Excuse me !" you shout, jogging closer to the scene.
"Please stand back ma'a-"
Your mind blocked out the officer's words as you got directly in front of the wreck. You scanned the whole entire scene until your eye catches a body being rushed into an ambulance nearby. You pushed past the officer who was trying with all his might to hold you back, going directly to the moving stretcher.
Your eyes were able to make out the familiar face and when they did, your heart sank into your stomach. There he was. Papi, his eyes fluttering open and shut and his face bloodied. "(y/n)," he whimpered in a low tone.
"Ma'am no bystanders," one of the paramedics said to you as you ran beside the stretcher.
"Please I know him,"you pleaded reaching and holding his hand so to see how responsive he was. Upon feeling your hand in his, he lightly squeezed your fingers, causing for you to sigh in relief.
"You can follow right behind us in your car but other than that we'll need the space in the ambulance."
"Okay. Thank you so much," you ran right back to your car and got in, following behind the speeding vehicle.

You were in full panic mode. None of your feelings, seemed to kick in. No tears. Nothing. All that mattered right now was being by Papi's side.
Connie was lecturing Sasha before you called. At first when you called Connie, he assumed that you had gotten into the house. But something told him that this call was a bit more urgent than this.
You were hysterical when he answered. Speaking in rushed fragments and blunt sentences. Your mouth and head was running a mile a minute. "(y/n) slow down, what's going on ?"
"Papi got into an accident ! He's all fucked up-" you said breathily into the phone, trying to slow down your heartbeat.
"Where are you now ?"
"Driving to the hospital. Tell Nicki take everyone home in my car," you answer as you arrive to the hospital. "I have to go."
Before saying anything else, you hang up and quickly dragged yourself out of the car, running behind the same stretcher that had your friend on it.
Your hand found its way back into his as they rushed to a room to take him in. Unfortunately, you had to wait in the hospital's waiting room. You filled out some paperwork, which one of the doctors with Papi ended up taking with him.
The waiting room was cold and vacant. Nobody was there which you know is a good thing but you hated the isolation. You couldn't bring yourself to sit down. Only pacing back and forth, recalling the memory of how Papi looked on the stretcher.
"(y/n) !" You turn to see Connie rushing towards you. Mikasa, Eren, Jean, Armin, Isaiah, Nicki, and Sasha, followed behind them. They must've dropped everyone off at the house, but you wish they would've left Sasha too since she was the last person you wanted to see right now.
Connie came up and wrapped you in his arms before gently grabbing your face, scanning it for injuries. "Are you okay ?"
"I'm fine but Papi-"
"Is he okay (y/n) ?"
You looked to see who asked and low and behold it was Sasha. You didn't want any altercations right now but the heat of the moment caused for your mouth to go on auto-pilot, saying anything you thought of. "Like you give a fuck."
"Of course I do. I was just ang-"
"News flash Sasha your anger is the reason- You know what never mind," you said turning away from her.
"I didn't think it would come to this (y/n). I really didn't." Sasha tone was apologetic but you didn't care. Her apology wasn't going to magically turn back time and help Papi.
You stayed silent. Connie gave Sasha a look, signaling her to just let you be for right now.
Everyone settled around the waiting room. Everybody fell asleep in their seats. You and Connie were the only ones up but best believe you were fighting sleep yourself.
"Excuse me. Miss (y/n) ?" A man in scrubs approached you.
You shot directly out of your seat, almost startling your boyfriend who was beginning to doze off. "Yes. That's me."
"You might want to sit down ma'am," he looks at you with a somber expression.
You raise your eyebrow before Connie gently pulls you back down into the seat next to him. By now, everyone started to slowly wake up. The doctor crouched down to where the both of your eyes met. "There's good news and then there's bad news. Which one first ?"
"Good."
"Your friend is very very lucky to be alive ma'am. The wreck was pretty bad and we'll be able to transport him to a Miami hospital tomorrow."
"That's great ! If the bad news is about the costs we can-"
"No ma'am that's not it. Though he is alive, he slipped into a coma and there's no telling if or when he'll wake up and return back to normal."
If. The word "if" is a very sad and almost stressful word."If there was enough time" or "if they were meant to be". Both phrases that fall victim to the two letter word. The word told all of the outcomes that could've happened if the stars aligned differently.
The feeling of numbness spread over your body as everyone around you became teary eyed. You were at lost for words. It felt as if the world had stopped spinning. Like everything yet nothing was happening around you at the same time.
You felt the doctor put his hand onto your shoulder, snapping you back into reality. "Would you like to see him ?"
You nodded. The doctor only allowed two people to go at once. You and Connie were first. His hands were intertwined with yours as you walked the depressing hospital hallways, until you got to the room Papi would be in for the next few hours before his transport.
The rhythmed beeps of the machines in the room would definitely haunt you. Papi was hooked up to a few machines and an IV. If before wasn't the time you would cry, now was definitely it.
Tears began to fall down your face, looking at your friend laying down in the bed. You inched closer, looking at his chest rise and fall with each slowed breath he took. As much as your body fought it, you walked closer and ran your hand along the side of the bed, wondering where it all went wrong.
Wishing that maybe if you went with him if it would've made a difference. And even if you still ended up in the crash maybe it was something you could've done to protect him. When it came to your friends, you would switch places with Papi, even if it meant keeping everyone else safe.
You couldn't bare to see him anymore and buried your face into Connie's chest. He rubbed up and down your back, his eyes still stuck on Papi in the bed.
He was terrified. Filled with all types of emotions. Grateful you didn't end up hurt but regretful he couldn't have did something to help.
The both of you had finally had enough, talking to the doctor about how they would transport Papi back to Miami. This meant you all had to hop on a flight that would be leaving around the same time he was. Meaning your time with your family was coming to an end, for now.
