      WHEN THE ORIGINAL VAMPIRES HAD BEEN CREATED, the gods demanded retribution from their creator. Something that would balance the scales of nature once again. Ester Mikaelson believed that giving part of her son's soul would balance the scales, the son of a wolf and a witch turned vampire. So, she bargained the part of his soul gifted by the moon goddess and bestowed it to the gods in exchange for their families forgiveness. While the gods had accepted the gift, Mother Nature had not forgiven, and she wouldn't forget the betrayal of her creatures.

      Though, Ester Mikaelson had always been cunning, and when her coven demanded revenge for the creation of Vampires, she promised them the same thing. Even though the Gods held the werewolf side of her son's soul, Ester forged a curse—The Hybrids Curse, or as the Originals began to call it The Sun and The Moon Curse. Never to be broken unless the Gods had given her son's soul back, though only Ester knew of that clause.

      When the creatures of the night began to run rampant, destroying the balance of nature once again, Mother Nature had gone to her brothers and sisters. She demanded that they destroy the soul they had been gifted, and destroy the creatures along with it. The Gods refused, knowing that destroying that soul would destroy their bargain with the witch, but they knew that the witch's creations would further destroy what once was their home. So, the Gods offered Mother Nature a bargain. They wouldn't destroy the soul, only forged it into another's—a child. One forged with the bargained soul and a purpose to protect her world from the inevitable destruction the creatures of the night would create. Mother Nature agreed instantly, seeing it as the only way to protect her birth place. Under the guide of the moon goddess, the Gods used the bargained soul and the stars surrounding them, to create the child. The protector forged by the will of the gods. Only to be used as their final resort.

      The gods each took a blood oath to the soul, swearing them to protect their home from the creatures of the night and in return—when they were to be laid to rest, the child would find their way home to the gods. They waited for the right time to use their final hand, they couldn't lose their one power. When one of the Vampires from the Hybrids line soon began to lose control, killing towns after towns Mother Nature laid her hand down. The soul was gifted into a child that would grow and protect her mother's land was finally sent to Earth.

      Elodie Solace had grown up in Mystic Falls, the small town in the middle of Virginia. Not known to receive many visitors, and a town where everyone knew everyone. Elodie Solace was the sweetest girl that anyone knew, she worked—more like volunteered as she refused to be paid—at the animal shelter most days after cheer practice. She always had a bright smile on her face, everyone had a need to be around the girl. Her sweet demeanor and her heart on her sleeve had boys falling at her feet, and though Elodie was always too nice to refuse them.

      That was Elodie. Sunshine incarnate—as most kids called her. Elodie was the sweetest person to live, but something in her changed when her small high school received a new student.
