.⊹⁀➷ CHAPTER FIVE!
↳❛eyes like the devil❜
THE REST OF THE FIRST WEEK was pretty much boring, Annabeth wandered from class to class and lived through the day as every other school year.
To her disappointment had Professor Snape remained the way he had always been, really mean and completely obnoxious.
On the bright side, Hagrids next lesson had been a real sucess and by the end of the week Annabeth came to the conclusion, that she absolutely loathed Divination.
Only the dayly news of a sighting of Sirius Black in the dayly Prophet were interisting for the students. Everywhere the brunette was, she could only hear, Sirius Black was sighed there or Sirius Black had appeared in the next two close to Hogwarts.
One article even said that the mass murdere had been spotted in Kings Cross. But even thought Annabeth was scared of the man, she couldn't belive that Sirius Black would dare to use Kings Cross as away to get to them.
The only thing that would bring a little bit of fun into Annabeths boring school week was the upcoming School trip to Hogsmeade.
But as the days changed the weekend came and the brunette realised that she woudn't be going. Uncle Vernon hadn't signed the school paper before they left.
The girl knew that it was pretty much hopeless but Harry convinced her to try it anyway.
Professor McGonnagall stood in the large castle yard, infront of a crowd of thrid years.
"Remember, these visits to Hogsmeade village are a privilege. Should your behavior reflect poorly on the school in any way that privilege shall not be extended again", the Professor warned the students before Harry grabbed Anna's arm and dragged her towards the Professor.
"No premission form signed, no visiting the village. That the rule, Mr and Ms. Potter", she told them with a sad look on her face.
"Those with premission, follow me. Those without, stay put", Filch shouted over the heads of the students.
Harry quickly stepped into the Professor's way as he still held the white paper in his hand, "We thougt if you could sign it, then we could-"
The grey haired woman shook her head at him, before she interrupted the boy sadly, "I can't. Only a parent or a guardian can sign. Since I am neither, it would be inappropriate."
She pushed past the sibling before she stopped by Ron and Hermione, But-", Annabeth wanted to disagree. "I'm sorry, Ms and Mr Potter. That's my final word", the woman stated before she walked away from them.
The two looked at Ron and Hermione, who both gave them simpathetic looks. But the twins didn't acknowledge them.
"Forget it, guys. See you later", Harry then finally muttered through cleched teeth and quickly dashed back inside.
Annabeth waved at them one last time, a sad smile on her face. "Have a nice afternoon."
The two friends smiled at her before they quickly followed after the crowd of students.
The brunette girl had already expected the answere from the Professor. But she couldn't say that she wasn't disappointed.
The girl made her way over the large school ground. She stopped by the edge of the forbidden forest and grabbed a book from her school purse.
The wind brushed her hair softly out of her face and the Potter girl sat down by one of the big trees, which stood not far away from the bridge that connected the castle and the wood with each other.
Annabeth leafed through the pages of her book to find the bookmark she had lost inbetween the pages.
Her dark eyebrows were furrowed and as she had finally found the bookmark, she trailed over the words to find the spot she had stopped reading.
The brunette continued to read a couple of pages and as she was about to finsih the next chapter a voice suddenly spoke up from infront of her, "Pride and Prejudice? Isn't that a bit to sappy?"
Annabeth slowly tore her gaze away from her book and her eyes met with the eyes of a brunette and very tall boy.
His light brown hair was completely messy and his grey eyes scanned over her face while a friendly smile was plastered on his.
Annabeth coudn't stop herself from smiling at him as well. "No, actually I quiet like it", she casually stated as she closed her book and narrowed her eyes at the boy, who now laughed at her.
"Cedric Diggory", he now properly introduced himself to her, while he held out his hand.
Annabeth was still sitting as she took his hand and shook it, "Annabeth Potter."
The boy sat slowly down besides her as he pointed his finger at her, "Yeah, see, I thought I knew you from somewhere."
The brunette girl still smiled at him while she laid her book on the soft grass. "So, Cedric. Why aren't you in Hogsmeade like all the other's?" Her hair flew into her face, making the girl push it behind her ears.
"Well, I have a lot of Homwork to do, just taking a break from studing", the boy sighed as he let his gaze wander over the lake. "I'm a fifth year. Not so easy like it seems. Hufflepuff by the way", he pointed at himself smiling again and Annabeth nodded her head at him.
"Yeah, I know you", she then told the boy, who looked at her in surprise.
"You're the Captain of the Hufflepuff Quidditch team", she stated simply before she added. "And their Seeker."
The boy nodded his head as he agreed with her, "Yeah, I am. You play too, am I right?"
"Yeah, I'm a Chaser", Annabeth stated before the two looked back at each other. "Yeah, I saw you, you're pretty good", the boy smirked at her while he nodded.
Annabeth had a smug smile.on her face as she raised her eyebrow at him, "You watched me?"
Cedric chuckled awkwardly as he rubbed his neck, "Gotta watch the opponents."
Annabeth nodded her head while she started laughing, suddenly her gaze then fell onto her wristwatch and her eyes widened immediatley. "Oh my God! It's already so late. I have to meet up with my brother and Professor Lupin."
She quickly jumped onto her feet before she looked back at the brunette boy. "It was really nice meeting you Cedric. I'm sure we'll see each other around."
She gave him one last smile and Cedric waved at her as she quickly grabbed her book and bag.
The brunette teenage girl hurried down the corridors of the Castle, rounding the corner to entered the corridor that lead to the great hall she came face to face with Professor Lupin and her brother, who were both on their way to the bridge.
"Well, well, Ms. Potter. Exactly the person we were looking for", the Professor smiled at her friendly and Anna released a breath she didn't knew she held.
"Good afternoon, Professor", the girl greeted the man friendly before she fell into step besides the two.
It didn't took long before the three had reached the bridge that she had just passed through.
Anna slowly placed her hands on the wooden railing as her eyes wandered over the grey lake. It was peaceful and the girl was relaxed, at least until her mind wandered back to her number one concern at the moment.
Her brown eyes quickly darted over the shadows of the woods that weren't that far away from them, watching out for anything suspicious.
The feeling of paranoia whelmed up in her as she thought about the possibility that Sirius Black could already be on the lands of Hogwarts, maybe waiting for the right moment to get to her or Harry.
"Professor, can I ask you something?", Haryy suddenly spoke up as he leaned onto the railing of the wooden bridge.
"You want to know why I stopped you facing that Boggart, yes?", Lupin questioned him as he stood besides the siblings.
"I thought it'd be obvious. I assumed it would take the shape of Lord Voldemort", the Professor explained to the boy as he eyed him.
"I did think of Voldemot at first. But then I remembered that night on the train and the Dementor", Harry stated as Annabeth gaze fell onto her brother.
Professor Lupin raised his eyebrows at the boy, "I'm very impressed. That suggests what you fear the most is fear itself. This is very wise."
Annabeth nudged her brother with a smirk on her face, "Did you hear that? You're wise."
Harry smiled slightly before they all fell silent again. Annabeth sighed quietly while her mind wandered off to the night in the train. Harry's words had immediatley reminded her of the loud scream she heard before she fainted.
The brunette girl immediately straightened up before she looked over at the Professor, "Before I fainted, I heard something. A woman- screaming."
Professor Lupin watched her interisted, "Dementors force us to relive our very worst memories. Our pain becomes their power."
The girl watched a couple of owls flying over the green landscape as she continued speaking, "I think it was my mother-" She looked over at Harry, who already watched her as well, "Our mother- the night she was murdered."
Remus sighed before he leaned onto the railing as well and sighed, "The very first time I saw you two, I recognized you immediatley. Not by your scars, by your eyes. They're your mother, Lily's and you're father Jame's."
The two looked up at him in surprise, "Yes, oh yes, I knew them." He walked over to the other side of the bridge, "Your mother was there for me at a time when no one else was. Not only was she a singularly gifted witch, but also an uncommonly kind woman. She had a way of seeing the beauty in others, even and most especially, when that person could not see it in themselves."
A smile appeared on Annabeths face while she listened to the Professor talking abour his friendship with their mother.
"And your father, James, on the other hand he- uh", the man chuckled with a smile on his face before he continued. "He had a certain, shall we say, talent for trouble."
The Professor joined them again as he smield widely, "A Talent, rumor has it, he passed onto you two."
Harry and Annabeth exchange a looked before they gazed back at the Professor. "You two are more like them than you now. In time, you'll come to see just how much."
Feeling like a strong force was pressing down onto her chest, Annabeth exhaled deeply.
The girl thought about her parents, and what coud've been when they hadn't been murdered. Would they be a happy family? Would she feel different?
"HONEYDUKE'S SWEETSHOP IS BRILLIANT, but nothing beats Zonko's Joke shop. We never got to go to the Shrieking Shack. You heard it's the most-", Ron rambled on excited before Harry interrupted him unnerved.
"Haunted building in Britain. I know", the brunette boy finished his friends scentence as the stair they stood on started moving.
Suddenly Ron spotted a large crowd waiting for the portrait of the Fat Lady.
"What's going on?"
"Probably Neville forgot the password again", the red head stated making Neville protest loudly form behind them. "Heyy!"
"Oh, you there", Ron realized as the group spun around to Neville, but their attention was quick caught by Percy, who tried to make his way through the crowd.
"Excuse me! I'm head boy!"
The crowd whispered to one another and Percy tried to make his presence know, "Go back. All of you. No one enter this dormitory until it's been searched."
Suddenly Ginny appeared infront of them, "The Fat Lady! She's gone!"
Annabeths eyes snapped back towards the portrait and a gasp escape her mouth as she spotted the three large stripes that destroyed it.
"Serves her right. She was a terrible singer", Ron joked as he eyed the portrait from where they stood.
"It's not funny, Ron!"
Suddenly Dumbledore made his way through the crowd, followed by Filch.
Everyone fell silent, watching the Headmasters reaction eagerly. The white haired man stopped walking as he spotted the portrait. The headmaster slowly let his fingers trail over the large slits.
"Mr. Filch? Round up the Ghosts. Tell them to search every painting in the castle to find the Fat Lady", the Headmasters then said, his eyes still lingered on the painting.
"There's no need for ghosts, Professor. The Fat Lady is there", Filch suddenly pointed to the wall on their opposite.
The crowd of students gasped and immediately made their way over to the painting, making Percy shouted at them unnerved. "Mind where you going!"
Annabeth and the others stayed close to Dumbledore as they reached the Fat Lady.
"Dear lady, who did this to you?", the Headmasters questioned her as the Fat Lady whimpered and came out of her hiding spot.
"Eyes like the devil, he's got, a soul as dark as his name. It's him, Headmaster. The one they all talk about. He's here, somewhere in the castle! Sirius Black!"
Anna's face expression immediately fell as the words hit her. He was in the castle, searching for Harry and her.
"Secure the Castle, Mr. Filch. The rest of you, to the Great hall", Dumbeldor instructed the students, making them all mumble to each other as they followed after him.
A while later, all the students, from every house were gathered in the Great hall. Everybody became a sleeping bag and laid down on the ground, staying with the students of their house.
Annabeth laid in-between Harmione and a blond girl, named Lavender Brown. The brunette still had this unsettling feeling in her stomach, that told her that's she wouldn't get any sleep tonight.
Annabeth laid down anyway, catching sighed of Draco's white hair further down the hall.
The boy was surrounded by his usual friend group, staring down the hall, directly in her direction.
Their eyes met and Annabeth felt like his ice blue eyes were piercing right into her soul. Annabeth quickly cleared her throat awkwardly before she rolled over, her body now facing the other direction.
Her brown eyes then fell onto the tall Hufflepuff boy, who was chatting with his friends on the other side of the hall. Their eyes met and he waved at her, smiling before she waved back at him. She then turned onto her back, staring at the enchanted celling above them.
She waited a while, counting stars, before squeezing her eyes shut. The girl still had this bubbly feeling in her stomach and somehow, she just couldn't bring herself to sleep.
Just the thought that Sirius Black, a mass murderer had been in the Castle, or still was, it kept her awake.
The girl pulled her duvet up to get shoulders' as she heard Filch's voice. "I searched the Anstronomy Tower and the Owlery. There's nothing there", the man stated as he entered the Great Hall, a lamp in his hand.
"The third floor is clean too, Sir", another one of the professors informed the Headmaster, before Professor Snape joined them. "I've done the Dungeons. No sign of Black, now anywhere else in the castle."
"I didn't really expect him to linger", Dumbeldor answered them before he put his arms behind his back and continued his way through the sleeping students.
"Remarkable feat, don't you think? To enter Hogwarts Castle on one's own completely undetected?", Annabeth could hear Snape's voice snarling.
"Quiet remarkable, yes."
Snape spoke up again, clearly unsatisfied with the Headmasters answer, "Any theories on how he managed it?"
Dumbeldor answered him quickly, "Many. Each as unlikely as the next."
"You may recall- prior to the start of term I expressed concerns about your appointment of Professor-", Snap tried to remind him of their conversation but Dumbeldor cut him off.
"Not a single Professor in this Castle would help Sirius Black to enter it."
Annabeth heard how the two Professors came closer to her as they continued their conversation, "I'm quiet convinced the castle is safe and I'm more than willing to send students to their houses."
"What about the Potter's? Should they be warned?", Snape questioned and Annabeth's eyes widened a bit, her breath hitching for a small second.
There was a moment of silence before Dumbeldor answered him quietly, "Perhaps, but for now, let them sleep. For in dreams, we enter a world that's entirely our own. Let them swim in the deepest Ocean or glide in the highest cloud."
Annabeth's heart felt like it would jump out of her chest, but the brunette squeezed her eyes shut and didn't open them again that night. Dumbledore's words echoing in her head the whole time.
The next afternoon Annabeth sat besides Harry in Defense against the dark arts, waiting for Professor Lupin to arrive.
The brunette had just played with her quill when the door burst open and Professor Snape rushed into the room.
The man swung his wand, closing every black curtain, darkening the room before he pulled down a white canvas.
"Turn to page 394", the man pressed the words through his thin lips. There was silence and everyone searched for the right page.
"Excuse me sir, where is Professor Lupin?", Harry's voice suddenly broke through the silence.
Annabeth shot him a glare and Professor Snape's face expression remained the same, "That's not really your concern, is it, Potter?"
The man made it's way through the rows, "Suffice is to say, that your Professor finds himself incapable of teaching at the present time." He gave him a dark glare, "Turn to page 394."
Suddenly Ron's high pinched voice came from further back, "Werewolves?"
"But Sir, we just learned about red caps and hinkypunks. We're not meant to start that for weeks", Hermione's voice spoke up from the seat, Annabeth could've sworn had been empty a few seconds ago.
"Quiet", Professor Snape warned them annoyed.
"When did she come in? Did you see her coming?", Ron questioned Harry and Annabeth hysterical.
Annabeth rolled with her eyes in annoyance and focused back on Professor Snape.
"Now, which one of you can tell me the difference between an Animagus and a werewolf?", the professor questioned the class and Hermione's hand immediately shot into the air.
Snape came to a stand infront of the class, "No one? Disappointing."
Hermione seemed eager to answer his question, "Please sir! An Animagus is a wizard who elects to turn into an animal. A werewolf has no choice. With each full moon, when he transformers, he no longer remembers who he is. He'd kill his best friend. The werewolf only responds to the call of it's own kind."
Suddenly Malfoy let out a loud howl, making his friends laugh. The boy had a large smirk on his face as his eyes met Annabeth's.
Professor Snape had a unpleased look on his face, "Thank you, Mr. Malfoy. That's the second time you've spoken out of turn Ms. Granger. Are you incapable of restraining yourself or do you take pride in being an insufferable know-it-all?"
Annabeth's gaze snapped towards the professor immediately.
"He's got a point, you know", Ron muttered and Annabeth shot him a glare. "Shut up, Ron."
The professor spun around to the front, "Five points from Gryffindor."
"As an antidote to your ignorance, and on my desk, by monday morning two rolls of Parchment on the werewolf, with emphasis on recognizing it", the Professor stated, making everyone groan loudly.
Suddenly a little white paper bird landed on Harry's and Annabeth's desk.
Harry caught it between his hands before he looked at the Professor, "Sir, it's Quidditch tomorrow."
Snape leaned forward onto his desk, staring into his eyes, "Then I suggest you take extra care, Mr. Potter. Loss of limb will not excuse you. Page 394."
The twins exchanged a look as the professor contiued his way through the class. "The term werewolf is a contraction of the Anglo-Saxon-"
Annabeth didn't listen any longer as she watched how Harry opened the paper bird.
Her brother's gaze immediately snapped over to Malfoy, who had a very vile smirk plastered on his face.
Annabeth quickly peeked at the drawing and her stomach turned into a knot. There was a picture of Harry on his brom while Malfoy threw a Quaffel against his head. But that wasn't all it also showed how Harry was hit by a lightning bolt right after.
The brunette girl immediately shook her head to herself while grabbing the paper from Harry's hand. She quickly tore it apart infront of Draco's eyes and let the remainings float slowly to the ground.
