Rescue and Resolve

I stared at the wall for several hours as the suns poured their rays into the cell window—the only window of light I had, and it was enough. The sunlight spilled over my scales, and I sighed, wriggling on the hard floor to get a better stance. Each movement was a struggle against the cold, unyielding surface beneath me.

Through the oppressive silence of the cell, I could hear Master Koth's screams of agony echoing down the corridor. The Magna Guards were at it again, shocking him mercilessly. His cries pierced the heavy air, sending shivers down my spine. The sound was a cruel reminder of the relentless torment we all endured under Dooku's command.

A rapping at my bars made me look up to see Ventress standing there. "Come on, we have a new mission," she said. I sighed, reluctant to move, but then I heard it—sirens wailing. We were under attack. I sprang to my feet immediately.

"Which form did Dooku say I should take?" I asked as Ventress unlocked my door.

"Take whichever you want," she replied with a smirk.

I nodded sharply and darted away from her, transforming into my winged wolf form. With powerful beats of my wings, I soared down to the battlefield, deftly dodging blaster fire as I flew. The chaos below was a symphony of explosions and shouts, but I navigated through it with grace and precision, ready to face whatever awaited us.

Casting caution to the wind, I unleashed a primal roar that echoed through the battlefield. My leathering wings beat powerfully, keeping me aloft as I swooped down, retaliating against a clone trooper trying to shoot me down. The air crackled with tension, my heart racing as I dodged incoming fire, every muscle in my body focused on the fight. The sky churned with the chaos of battle, but I remained undeterred, driven by a fierce determination to survive and conquer.

Before long, the troopers lay lifeless beneath my paws. With a powerful leap, I took to the skies once again, my wings slicing through the air. Suddenly, a lightsaber came hurtling toward my tail.

"Oh, uh, Master, we've got a problem," a voice called out. I whirled around, my eyes blazing as I glared at the young Jedi who had spoken. My wings beat steadily, keeping me upright.

"What now?" came a voice from the other side of his comlink.

"There's a... there's a wolf here with, uh, wings," the young Jedi stammered, staring at me in disbelief.

I let out one final growl before dodging a bolt of blaster fire, swiftly turning to eliminate the trooper who had dared to shoot at me. The smell of ozone lingered in the air, but I remained poised, every movement a testament to my indomitable spirit.

Across the chaotic battlefield, an auburn-haired Jedi was locked in combat with the fearsome Asajj Ventress. "Well then, I'm a bit occupied here now," he said, his voice strained but determined. My ears perked up at the sound, causing me to smirk as I noticed his predicament.

Swooping down, I slashed at the Jedi's shoulder with my claws, causing him to yelp in pain and roll to avoid Ventress's relentless lightsaber. "Ahh, you have no power here, Jedi! She will kill you all!" Ventress shouted in glee, swinging at him once more. He deftly dodged and countered, managing to cut her leg. Ventress cried out and dropped to one knee.

Hearing her distress, I instinctively dodged around a group of clone troopers, swiftly felling them with a swipe of my wings. I landed gracefully beside Ventress, my wings still spread wide. Nudging her with my head, I murmured, "I'm fine, finish them."

Grunting, Ventress struggled to her feet, while I turned my attention back to the auburn-haired Jedi. "What in the blazes?" he gasped, eyes wide with shock as he took in the sight of me, a winged wolf, ready to strike. My growl echoed across the field, a promise of the chaos yet to come.

With a roar that echoed through the battlefield, I leaped toward the Jedi, my claws outstretched. He reacted swiftly, jabbing his lightsaber directly at my chest. Pain seared through me as the blade pierced my skin. I grunted, feeling the intense heat of the saber's energy.

"No!" I heard Ventress shout, her voice filled with a mix of desperation and fury. Despite the agony, I locked eyes with the Jedi, staring deeply into his grim, determined gaze.

Time seemed to slow as we remained frozen, each of us resolute in our stance. The battlefield around us blurred into insignificance, the clash of war fading into the background. It was a moment of raw, palpable tension, neither of us willing to back down.

"You... will die," I grunted, summoning the last of my strength as I painfully ripped myself off the saber's point. The Jedi's jaw slackened, his eyes widening in shock as he watched me stand there, chest heaving and wings half-spread.

"All of you!" I bellowed, letting out a ferocious roar before charging at him. He attempted to dodge my attacks, but his movements were sluggish, his mind undoubtedly rattled by the spectacle before him. I managed to slash his right arm and deliver a gash on his cheek, my claws leaving a burning trail of agony.

Just as my momentum surged, I stumbled over the lifeless body of a clone trooper. The ground seemed to rush up to meet me, and I fell, the world spinning around me. My vision blurred as I lay there, unable to rise, my body finally succumbing to the weariness and wounds of battle.

The Jedi crouched down at my side, gently placing a hand over my head. "I'm sorry about that, really I am. You didn't deserve this," he said, his voice slow and soft, filled with genuine regret.

I stared at him, my breathing labored. "You... know nothing about what I deserve," I grunted, blood welling in my mouth and seeping past my teeth. The weight of my injuries pressed down on me, but the fire in my spirit remained undimmed.

Another set of footsteps approached, and a clone trooper's voice cut through the silence. "Sir, the other Sith, she's gone."

The Jedi looked up, a mixture of relief and concern crossing his face. He glanced back down at me, his expression conflicted, as if weighing the gravity of his actions against the chaos of the battlefield. The pain in my chest flared, but I held his gaze, defiant to the end.

The scent of the young Jedi soon wafted over me. "Master, we better get back before Dooku sends his other droids to deal with us," he said, urgency lacing his voice. I felt his eyes fix on me. "Oh, stars."

"We need to take her with us," said Obi-Wan, a note of firm resolve in his voice.

The young Jedi and the clone started at his words. "What? Are you mad?" snapped the young Jedi, disbelief clear on his face. The older Jedi sighed, standing tall against the chaos.

"Maybe. But now gather a team that can make a stretcher and take her. Be careful of her wings, and someone press something on the wound in her chest," he ordered. Clones all around us, those I hadn't killed, began to work swiftly.

Just as they lifted me onto the stretcher, I struggled against the shadows encroaching on my vision. My strength waned, and I began to slip away from consciousness. Through the haze, I saw the Jedi's jade-green eyes meeting mine. A wave of calm washed over me, a surprising solace, as I finally succumbed to the darkness, fading into unconsciousness.
