Ancient Wisdom
Anakin's warm smile greeted me as I entered the tower, where he stood alongside Mace and the leader of the Dug people. I acknowledged Anakin with a nod. "Now, what's so important that you had to drag me off the field?" I asked, my curiosity piqued.
Anakin gestured to the leader of the Dug people, who stepped forward and activated a holographic display. It revealed the image of a massive creature, resembling a dragon, but I knew better than to assume. "We have discovered something underground," the Dug leader said, his voice gravelly and deep. "We call it the Zilo Beast."
I studied the hologram, intrigued. "What do we know about it?" I asked, my eyes never leaving the image. "Dragons are not native to this planet."
"Indeed, it is a unique creature," Anakin added. "The Dugs have been tracking its movements and believe it poses a significant threat. They requested our assistance in dealing with it."
Leaning forward, I addressed the Dug leader directly. "Tell me more about this Zilo Beast. What makes it so dangerous?"
The Dug leader, whose name I should have asked, explained that the beast had been wreaking havoc on their underground tunnels, causing cave-ins and endangering their people. "It is unlike anything we have ever seen. Its size and power are unmatched."
As the discussion continued, I found myself drawn into the mystery of the Zilo Beast, eager to uncover more about this enigmatic creature and the threat it posed.
"I understand your concern," I said, my voice steady as I pulled back, feeling the weight of their expectations. "However, killing it is not something I am willing to do lightly." I paused, considering the gravity of the situation. "The Zilo Beast may be a threat, but taking a life should always be a last resort."
The Dug leader, his eyes flashing with anger, stepped forward, his breath coming in sharp bursts. "But it is killing my people! Just as our ancestors were slain by a beast of its kind. We cannot let history repeat itself!"
I leaned down, my eyes narrowing as I met his intense gaze. "I will not kill one of my own," I said, my voice firm and resolute. "Not without just cause. Now, back off, or there will be consequences."
With that, I turned and exited the tent, the weight of their stares heavy on my back. Once outside, I took a deep breath, feeling the familiar rush of energy as I shifted into my wolf form. "I will draw him out," I called to my companions. "Stay close and be ready for anything."
And with that, I disappeared into the shadows, my fur blending with the night, my senses heightened, and my heart pounding with determination.
Soaring over the sinkhole, I pulled back on my wings, preparing for a steep descent. "Anakin, send a few clones to my location, but instruct them to maintain a safe distance from me," I transmitted through my comm, my voice calm despite the rising adrenaline.
Anakin's voice crackled through the comm, a mix of concern and determination. "Will do, Commander. Be careful down there. I don't want to see you wounded again."
I snorted softly, a brief exhale of air through my nostrils. "Will do my best, Ani. Just make sure they follow my lead. This beast is unlike anything we've faced before."
With a graceful arc, I glided downward, my wings catching the air currents to slow my descent. My eyes scanned the surroundings, taking in the vastness of the sinkhole and the intricate network of tunnels that splayed outwards like a spider's web.
As I landed on the edge of the sinkhole, my claws scraped against the rocky terrain, sending up a spray of dust and pebbles. I activated my comm once more. "I will draw the beast out. When it emerges, the clones should be ready to provide support. Over."
Adjusting my stance, I prepared to shift back to my human form, my heart racing with anticipation. The hunt was on, and I intended to face this Zilo Beast head-on, using all my skills and instincts to protect the innocent and bring an end to the threat.
Rex and his squad of 501st clones arrived promptly, their armor gleaming in the sunlight. "We await your orders, Commander," Rex said, his voice steady and respectful.
I gave a brief nod, my eyes scanning the surroundings. Without warning, Rado leapt from the roof, descending gracefully into the pit.
"Commander!" Rex shouted, his voice filled with concern.
I twisted in the air, adjusting my trajectory to avoid a face-first landing on the sharp rocks below. My wings folded, and I landed lightly on the hard bottom of the pit, my red eyes scanning the darkness.
I kept my wings partially spread, ready to take flight at a moment's notice should the beast awaken. The red glow of my eyes illuminated the cavern, creating an eerie atmosphere.
"Mrrr... Still following the humans' orders, I see," a deep male voice rumbled from the shadows.
I turned sharply toward the source of the voice, my wings rustling. "Who are you?" I asked, my voice carrying a hint of challenge.
The moss-covered darkness chuckled, and a giant, rounded head emerged from the dusty air. "I thought you'd know, Pterolycus," the Zilo Beast rumbled.
Damn, I thought. He's bigger than me, and this is the largest form I can take. I backed up slightly, my wings brushing against the cavern walls.
"We mean you no harm," I said, my voice calm and steady. "But you're in our way. The Dugs have been disturbing your rest, and we aim to put a stop to it."
The Zilo Beast snorted, a puff of steam escaping from his nostrils. "Will the Republic do the same? Plunder and destroy without regard?" He tilted his massive head, his gaze locking with mine.
"We're different," I asserted, my voice firm. "We seek to protect and maintain balance."
"Hmm, only time will tell if your words ring true," the Zilo Beast rumbled, his massive head raised toward the edge of the pit. "But for now, I am willing to give you the benefit of the doubt."
His yellow-green eyes, like glowing orbs, fixed on me once more. "Tell your forces to stand down. I will relocate to another part of the planet and resume my slumber, as long as the Dugs stay far away from me."
I straightened, my wings folding behind me. "I can assure you, we have no intention of disturbing your rest. The Dugs will be kept at bay, and we will ensure they do not return to plunder or cause harm."
The beast lowered his head, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Very well. I will hold you to your word. But remember, I am always watching."
With that, the Zilo Beast turned and began to move deeper into the cavern, his massive form disappearing into the shadows.
I stood there for a moment, my heart racing. Then, spreading my wings, I took flight, determined to share the good news with Anakin and the others. Perhaps, just perhaps, we had averted a disaster and forged an unlikely alliance with a creature of legend.
I landed on the edge of the pit, my wings carrying me gracefully to a stop. Rex approached, his hand resting on my shoulder fur. "Stop scaring us like that, Commander. You had us ready to jump down there after you," he said, his breaths coming in short pants.
I made a low rumbling sound, shaking the dust from my fur. Then, with a gentle nudge, I moved past him and sprinted toward the tower, my claws clicking on the ground.
As I entered the tower, I shifted back into my human form. "I sent the beast on its way," I announced, glaring at the Dug leader, who stood with his mouth agape. "He won't destroy any more of your fuel tanks as long as you don't disturb his rest."
I turned to Anakin and Mace, who exchanged troubled glances. "What now?" I asked, my voice carrying a hint of concern. "Do we have an agreement, or will there be further issues?"
Anakin stepped forward, his eyes holding a mixture of relief and determination. "For now, we have an understanding. But we must ensure the Dugs uphold their end of the bargain and leave the Zilo Beast be. It's in everyone's best interest to maintain peace."
Mace nodded, his eyes never leaving me. "You've done well, Commander. Your unique abilities and connection with the beast may have averted a major disaster."
I offered a slight smile, grateful for their recognition. "Let's hope this truce holds. I have no desire to face that beast again, nor do I wish to see any more destruction."
The Dug leader cleared his throat, his eyes shifting nervously. "In fact, we have agreed to let you take the beast away from Malastre, ensuring the safety of my people," he announced, causing all eyes to turn toward him.
"What?" I growled, my eyes narrowing. "Are you mad? You want us to bring that beast to the Republic on Coruscant?" I shook my head, my dark hair falling across my eyes. "Whose brilliant idea was that?"
"Mine," came the hated voice of the Chancellor, and I bared my fangs, a low snarl escaping my throat. I turned sharply, my eyes fixing on the one who governed the Republic. "You? By all means, Chancellor, go ahead and unleash that beast on your own planet. I won't shed a tear if Coruscant, the heart of the Republic, is burned to the ground."
I shook my head, my anger and frustration evident. "You're a fraud, willing to sacrifice innocent lives for your own political gain. You should be ashamed!" I stormed out of the tent, my wings unfurling as I took to the air, not waiting for a response. I didn't care that I was flying to an unsecured location; I needed to put distance between myself and the Chancellor's reckless plan.
"Wait!" Anakin's distant shout echoed, but I was already too high up in the sky to care or turn back. My wings beat heavily, carrying me further away from the chaos and deception below. I flew with purpose, seeking solace in the solitude of the air.
Soon, I reached a series of towering peaks and stumbled upon a cave, a haven where I could finally unleash all the anger and frustration that had been building inside me. I let out bursts of electricity, scorching the cave walls and leaving scorch marks in my wake. My claws raked against the stone, scratching and scarring the surface.
I paced the confines of the cave, my wings brushing the walls, my breath coming in sharp pants. The raw, unfiltered emotions poured out of me—anger at the Chancellor's deceit, frustration at being used, and a deep sense of betrayal. The cave became a canvas for my rage, each mark a testament to the turmoil within.
In that moment, I was wild and untamed, a force of nature unleashed. The electricity arced and crackled, a physical manifestation of my inner turmoil. I needed this release, this primal expression, to regain my sense of self and purpose.
A deep, resonating chuckle reached my ears, causing me to pause and lower my head, my chest heaving from the exertion of my outburst. "Well, well," the voice continued, "that's the first time I've seen a wolf lose its temper so spectacularly."
I turned my hateful red eyes toward the source of the voice, and out of the cavern's darkness emerged a large lizard-like creature. She had brown skin adorned with black splotches and a wise, ancient look in her eyes. "Now, who might you be that just happens to stumble upon this empty cave on a mountainside and then try to bring the whole place down?"
I straightened, my wings folding behind me as I regarded this unexpected visitor. "I might ask the same of you," I replied, my voice steady despite the lingering anger. "Who are you, and how did you find me here?"
The lizard-like creature approached, her movements graceful despite her size. "I am Fira, a wise and ancient creature of this planet. I've made these mountains my home for many centuries. And it seems I'm not the only one drawn to this particular cave."
I narrowed my eyes, my curiosity piqued. "What do you know of this cave? And why have you chosen to make your home here?"
Fira's eyes glinted with a mixture of wisdom and mischief. "This cave holds a special energy, one that draws creatures like us—beings with a connection to the Force. It's a place of reflection and power."
Fira inclined her head, her nostrils flaring as she inhaled deeply. "You smell of gun oil and humans," she observed. "I assume you're with the Republic, then. And it seems the Chancellor has done something to incite your anger."
I blinked, taken aback by her insight. "You're right," I admitted, my voice softening. "Chancellor Palpatine intends to bring the Zilo Beast to Coruscant, putting countless lives at risk. It's a reckless and dangerous plan."
Fira smirked, her eyes glinting with a mixture of amusement and sympathy. "The Chancellor has a talent for manipulating situations to his advantage. But it seems you have a mind of your own and recognize the potential consequences."
I lowered my head, my anger transforming into a sense of weariness. "I tried to reason with him, but he's set on his path. I fear the Republic is heading for disaster, and I'm not sure how to stop it."
Fira took a step forward, her massive form filling the cave. "You have a strong connection to the Force, young one. Trust your instincts. Sometimes, it takes an outsider's perspective to bring about change."
I looked up at her, hope sparking within me. "You think there's still a chance to avert this disaster?"
Fira's eyes shone with a gentle wisdom. "The Force works in mysterious ways. Remember, even the smallest actions can have a profound impact."
"Wait," I called out as Fira began to slink away, her massive form disappearing into the shadows.
She stopped and turned her head, her golden eyes shining in the dim light. "You wish to know if it is wise to bring the beast to Coruscant. You fear going against the Chancellor, even as a Jedi."
I nodded, my heart heavy. "I don't want to see Coruscant destroyed, but I can't just stand by and let the Chancellor endanger countless lives. What should I do?"
Fira smiled, her eyes gentle and reassuring. "Trust in the Force, young one. It will guide you on your path. Remember, you are not alone. Your friends are searching for you, and together, you will find a way."
With that, Fira turned and disappeared back into the darkness, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I stood there for a moment, my mind racing. Then, with renewed determination, I spread my wings and took to the skies, ready to reunite with my companions and face whatever challenges lay ahead.
Fira's words echoed in my mind, offering comfort and guidance. I knew that the path ahead would be difficult, but with the Force as my ally and my friends by my side, I felt a sense of hope and resilience. Together, we would face the Chancellor, protect the Republic, and ensure the safety of the Zilo Beast.
