ๅฝก Fluff, Mutual Pining, Bestfriends to Lovers
ๅฝก Inspired by the song "Your Love" by Jisoo.
โหแฐ.แ Soobin believed his love for Beomgyu was unrequited, just another secret hidden in his lyrics, but he let himself drown in these feelings, because if this was the only way he could love Beomgyu; through lyrics, through melodies, through unsaid words hidden in a song; then he would do it. Again and again.
But while recording a song together, Soobin realises his unrequited love wasn't so unrequited afterall. Beomgyu had been singing his love back to him all along.

"Hyung, isn't this such an amazing idea?"
Beomgyu mumbled to the older, who was currently sitting sprawled on the couch across the younger brunette, busy focusing on the way the younger's lips moved in a symphony as a string of words which sounded no less than notes of honey-sweet melodies to Soobin, admiring him in silence.
"Mhm, it is...are you going to produce a song again?" asked Soobin, a fond smile naturally forming on his face as his eyes stayed settled on his favourite bundle of chaotic energy admist the quietness of the room.
"Yeah! I have amazing inspiration! Can you write lyrics for me Hyung, or maybe help me write some? I'm planning of writing a love-song this time," Beomgyu beamed, shifting his focus away from the scattered sheets of music theory lying infront of him to the older sitting on the couch.
Hearing Beomgyu's words, and seeing that ever so endearing glint of excitement in his eyes, Soobin felt his heart skip a beat, like it did ever so often whenever Beomgyu's eyes met his.
He found himself nodding immediately, body reaction before his heart did, words slipping out of his lips as easily as a stream of water. Unstoppable and clear.
"Ofcourse, what's the theme this time Gyu?" He asked, propping his chin on his palm, waiting for Beomgyu's explanation about his new inspiration.
"About Love. Something like...which screams, pure love! Like the kind of love you see in Highschool k-dramas, young, pure, filled to the brim which makes your stomach feel funny in a sweet way. That's the theme," Beomgyu explained, waving his hands in the air with excitement, his voice going a little higher than usual, just like it always did whenever he was excited.
Soobin found that extremely endearing. He found everything about Being endearing.
He felt a flutter in chest again, hearing the theme Beomgyu wanted to work on, with him. Was he trying to kill him?
Love? Pure love which fills you to the brim? That's how he felt for Beomgyu, and he could already see the lyrics surging up in his head, sprialing into his conciousness, making him want to act up and pour everything he felt for the younger.
Soobin gulped, quickly masking the rush of emotions threatening to spill through his gaze. He forced a chuckle, tilting his head slightly to the side as if deep in thought. That thought, that mere desire itself was dangerous.
"Pure love, huh?" he mused, tapping his fingers against his knee in a steady rhythm.
"Let's see what I can think of it." He hummed, acting cool as if there wasn't a storm brewing inside his brain.
Beomgyu's grin widened, his excitement practically infectious. He shuffled closer, nudging Soobin's knee with his own, completely unaware of the chaos he was causing in the elder's heart.
"I knew you'd be perfect for this, Hyung! You always have a way with words-like that one time you wrote that verse for me in five minutes. Genius!" Beomgyu gushed, his voice laced with admiration.
Soobin let out a soft laugh, rubbing the back of his neck. If only you knew where those words came from, Gyu...
Beomgyu got down from the couch, letting Soobin finally breathe, sitting on the floor, legs crossed, as he reached for the acoustic guitar resting beside him. His fingers glided over the strings absentmindedly, testing out a few chords, eyes gleaming with excitement.
"I've been messing around with this melody," he murmured, plucking a soft, rhythmic tune that filled the quiet room. "It kinda reminds me of how love feels, y'know? Simple, warm, quiet...Like the quiet pitter patter of the rain against a window-shield."
Soobin, still lounging on the couch, felt his breath hitch. Beomgyu had no idea what he did to his heart. He probably never will.
The melody was delicate, yet full, each note lingering in the air, sinking into his skin. Beomgyu wasn't just playing a tune; he was feeling it, eyes shut, lips slightly parted as he lost himself in the music.
Soobin watched, mesmerized, as Beomgyu's fingers moved effortlessly across the strings. The younger didn't need words to express what was in his heart, his music did it for him.
Beomgyu was truly born to create music.
"You're good," Soobin finally murmured, his voice softer than he intended.
Beomgyu cracked one eye open and grinned. "Obviously," he teased, before returning his focus to the melody.
A few more notes played before Beomgyu spoke again. "Hyung, what do you think love feels like?"
Soobin tensed, gripping the pillow beside him. He could lie, give a simple, clichรฉ answer. But with Beomgyu sitting in front of him, strumming a song that already sounded like something out of a dream, honesty clawed its way out.
"Like this...." Soobin admitted, voice barely above a whisper.
Beomgyu's fingers froze mid-chord. "Huh?" He blinked at Soobin, tilting his head in confusion.
Soobin cleared his throat, averting his gaze.
"I mean, the way you're playing. It sounds like love. Easy, effortless... like you don't have to think about it, you just know."
Beomgyu blinked before a slow smile spread across his face. He resumed playing, this time with an added hum under his breath.
"I like that," he mused. "Love feels like music, huh?"
Soobin exhaled shakily, he wanted to say. No, Gyu. Love feels like you.
But he chose to just nod his head, and watch Beomgyu figure out tunes and notes, strumming his guitar, while all Soobin could do was watch him, admire him, love him.
Soobin tapped the pen against the page before scrawling down some words, which came to his mind, as he listened to Beomgyu playing the music, his hands moving itself before he could stop himself.
"Your love feels like the rain, feels like a song I used to know..."
Beomgyu stopped playing when he noticed Soobin writing something on the paper, leaning in, reading over his shoulder, and gasped. "Hyung! That sounds so perfect!"
Soobin merely smiled, masking the bittersweet ache in his chest. If only Beomgyu knew that every lyric, every melody, and every heartbeat in this song was about him.
If only you knew Beomgyu.
Soobin chuckled softly, shaking his head.
"You say that like I don't hear you call yourself a genius every other day."
"Well, that's because I am," Beomgyu said, grinning. "But you, Hyung, you have a way of making words feel like home."
Soobin stilled. Like home. If only Beomgyu knew that he was the only place Soobin had ever wanted to belong to.
Beomgyu, oblivious to the effect of his words, grabbed the paper from Soobin's hands, reading the lyrics with a dreamy expression. Then, humming the melody under his breath, he started to sing.
And just like that, Soobin lost himself.
His voice was soft at first, like a whisper carried by the wind, before it grew steady, wrapping around the melody like a gentle embrace. The lyrics, once mere ink on paper, came to life, woven into the music in a way that made Soobin's heart twist.
"Your love feels like the rain, feels like a song I used to know...And your love feels like the way there's only green lights driving home.
Your love feels like a Sunday when you got nowhere to go
Oh, I love your love, your love, your la-la-la-la-love (your love, your love, your love)"
Beomgyu swayed slightly as he sang, his eyes slipping shut. He wasn't even trying, yet his voice felt like it had been meant for this song, meant for Soobin to hear, meant to make him fall even deeper into something he couldn't escape.
The worst part?
Beomgyu had no idea.
Soobin swallowed thickly, forcing himself to stay still. He was used to this feeling, watching Beomgyu shine, knowing he could never reach out and claim the light for himself.
When Beomgyu finished, he opened his eyes, his excitement burning even brighter.
"Hyung, we need to record this. Right now."
Soobin laughed, shaking his head.
"It's not finished yet, Gyu."
"Then let's finish it together," Beomgyu insisted, grabbing Soobin's wrist without hesitation. His touch was warm, grounding, and everything Soobin could never have.
But he let himself be pulled in anyway.
Because if this was the only way he could love Beomgyu; through lyrics, through melodies, through unsaid words hidden in a song; then he would do it. Again and again.
Even if Beomgyu never knew.
Or so he thought.
Now, they were in Beomgyu's small home studio, ready to record the song. The mic was set, the guitar rested on Beomgyu's lap, and Soobin had his lyric sheet in front of him.
They were close. Too close.
Soobin had always been good at holding back. At keeping his feelings tucked away in unwritten verses, in the spaces between alphabes. But as Beomgyu leaned over, pointing at a line on the paper, his face mere inches away; Soobin felt his breath stutter.
"Ready?" Beomgyu asked, adjusting the mic.
Soobin cleared his throat, nodding.
"Yeah. You start."
Beomgyu strummed the first few chords, the melody flowing through. His voice, when he began singing, was soft, deep and full of emotions. The kind of emotions which made Soobin's heart shake.
"Your love feels like the rain, feels like a song I used to know... And your love feels like the way there's only green lights driving home..."
Soobin closed his eyes, letting himself sink into the music. When it was his turn, his voice blended into Beomgyu's effortlessly, weaving through the melody like a secret confession.
"Your love feels like a Sunday when you got nowhere to go... Oh, your love, your love, your love, your la-la-la-la-love..."
They continued, their voices mixing together in a beautiful web of unspoken feelings, of stolen glances, of comforting hugs, of late night talks, of them.
"My life began when you walked in the room,
And I wanna end all my nights next to you."
The moment the words left his lips, he saw it.
The way Beomgyu froze. The way his fingers stopped strumming mid-chord. The way his lips parted, eyes widening ever so slightly.
These lyrics weren't the part of the script yet. Soobin's feelings flowed without his consent, without his control.
And Soobin knew.
Knew that Beomgyu was hearing something beyond just lyrics.
Fuck, he was doomed now. Beomgyu will surely know now, he made it too obvious, he-"
Silence
"You wrote this about me, didn't you?" Beomgyu asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Soobin's heart nearly stopped. He felt like all the air was knocked out of his lungs.
"Gyu, I-"
"You did," Beomgyu said, more certain this time. He set the guitar aside, standing up from his stool, stepping closer. His voice was hesitant, but his eyes...his eyes were certain.
Soobin's heart was racing. "Gyu, it's just-"
"You said love feels safe, effortless... like you don't have to think about it, you just know." Beomgyu's voice was so soft now, and when he spoke next, Soobin barely heard it over his own heartbeat.
"Soobin... that's how I feel when I'm with you."
Soobin forgot how to breathe.
His throat tightened, hands gripping the lyric sheet like it could anchor him. But nothing could prepare him for the way Beomgyu was looking at him.
Warm. Knowing. A little shy, but undeniably certain.
Soobin had spent so long thinking his love was unrequited. That Beomgyu was just naturally affectionate, that his touches, his words, his songs-they meant nothing beyond friendship.
But he had been so, so wrong.
Beomgyu took another step closer, and then-
Soft fingers brushed over Soobin's, slowly prying the paper from his grip, replacing it with something warmer.
Him.
Beomgyu intertwined their fingers, holding onto him like a secret finally revealed.
Soobin's breath hitched.
"Hyung," Beomgyu murmured, his lips curving into a gentle smile. "You were so busy hiding your feelings in songs... you never noticed I was doing the same."
Soobin let out a shaky laugh, disbelief washing over him in waves.
"We are such idiots," he chuckled, feeling his heart racing uncontrollably. It felt unreal to him.
Beomgyu grinned, eyes twinkling as he let out his loud laugh, the kind Soobin absolutely loved.
"Definitely. We are both such idiots," Beomgyu giggled. "The biggest idiots."
"So you...Love me?" Soobin questioned as their laughs died down, a sparkle of hope flickering jn his irises.
Beomgyu didn't hesitate. "More than anything."
A slow, soft, gentle smile spread across Soobin's face, as he heard Beomgyu's words. So sweet, so warm. Just like him. "Me too. I love you, Gyu."
Soobin barely had time to react before Beomgyu was moving, closing the space between them, the guitar nearly slipping off his lap. And then, oh
A hand in his hair. Lips brushing his hesitantly at first, before pressing in fully, like Beomgyu had been waiting for this moment just as long as Soobin had.
Soobin sighed into the kiss, his hands finding Beomgyu's waist, pulling him closer. The music, the studio, the entire world faded into nothing, because this was their song now.
Their kiss was soft. Warm. Like the quiet pitter-patter of rain against a window.
Like love.
When Beomgyu pulled away, his smile was radiant, cheeks dusted pink.
"Now, should we finish recording, or do you need another love song to confess properly?"
Soobin groaned, burying his face in his hands.
"Ugh, shut up!"
Beomgyu just laughed, pulling him closer.
And for the first time, Soobin let himself believe-
He had always belonged here.
With Beomgyu.
