Yoongi was not happy about this.
It was early. Way too early.
There they stood, his brother and his niece, on his front porch.
"I'm really sorry Yoongi, this is out of nowhere. But Nancy's parents had an emergency and I have to go with her to check on them out of town." Jun Ki sounded desperate. "Nancy's sister is out of town, I really didn't want to bother you."
Yoongi just took a deep breath in and let it out. "It's alright hyung. I barely get to see this little one anyways."
"Thank you Yoongi, I owe you big one." He passed Yoongi a blue, small backpack. "Here are her coloring books, snacks, and medicine."
"Medicine?" Yoongi took the backpack in his hand and stared at it. This was a boy's backpack, Optimus Prime on the front.
"Yes, as soon as she has breakfast, sorry I didn't have time to make her some, give it to her. It's for her ADHD."
"Hyper," He sighed. "Didn't know that."
"I'm sorry, again. But thank you so much little bro."
"No problem." He waved at Nancy in the car. "Be careful on your drive over. Tell them I said hi."
"I will. Bye sweetie." Jun Ki bent down and kissed his daughter's head. "Uncle Yoongi will take care of you for today. We'll try to be back so we can have dinner together, alright?"
"Yes papa." She waved excitedly as he got in their car and drove off.
"Well," Yoongi closed the door behind him as the girl bounced in the house. "what do you want for breakfast Lily?"
"Is pancakes okay?" Lily asked, a little shy to be in Yoongi's house.
Her and Yoongi had only met twice before. On her first birthday, and her third birthday. For her second birthday, she was with her mother visiting their family, and for her fourth birthday, Yoongi didn't visit.
"I uh..." Yoongi scratched his neck. "I don't know how to make pancakes."
Lily pouted. " 'S okay..."
Yoongi pouted himself. He really wanted to win her over. He was her uncle. He was suppose to be cool and fun, better to hang with than Jun Ki. "I have a friend that knows how though!" He smiled as Lily bounced on her feet. "Want to go get him with me?"
"Yes!" She answered in english and she quickly grabbed Yoongi's hand. "Let's go!"
Yoongi sighed and walked out of his house with his niece in hand. He didn't like asking for help. Specially from his neighbors. But he really needed to win Lily over.
"Can I ring the doorbell?" Lily asked, sucking her thumb, unusual for a four year old.
"Yeah. Let me lift you up." Yoongi took the girl in his hands and lifted her up.
She rang the doorbell one too many times and giggled as she was brought back down.
The door was opened after a few minutes, a tired Jimin rubbing his eyes and staring in confusion at Yoongi. "Hey Yoongs..."
Jimin's husky morning voice left Yoongi speechless. "Hello mister!" Jimin looked down at Lily, who waved excitedly. "Good morning!"
"Hello there." Jimin waved back then looked back up at Yoongi. "You still waking up?"
"Yup. This is Lily, my niece." Yoongi pointed with his other hand that wasn't holding Lily's.
"Lily? That's such a pretty name!" Jimin crouched down in front of Lily. "Are you perhaps a princess?"
Lily giggled. "I wish!"
"Oh but anyone with a pretty name can be a princess! That makes you a princess!"
"What's your name sir?" Lily's eyes sparkled. She'd never seen such a pretty boy before. Well other than her uncle Yoongi but he always had a mean expression so he looked scary.
"Jimin."
"You have a pretty name too! That makes you a princess like me!"
Jimin blushed. "No, actually I'd be a princ—"
"That's right." Yoongi smirked. "You both are princesses."
Lily giggled as Jimin glared at Yoongi. "So you know how to make pancakes sir?"
Jimin stood back up, looking at Yoongi confused. "Yes..?"
"Wow! A princess that knows how to make pancakes! That's cool!" The little girl tugged on Yoongi's arm. "Now we can have breakfast!"
Yoongi flashed Jimin an apologetic smile. "She wants pancakes and I have no idea how to make pancakes. I really wanna win her over..." He whispered the last phrase.
Jimin nodded. "I'll help. Let me get changed and grab some stuff and I'll head over."
Yoongi bowed. "Thanks Jimin. I'll leave the door open for you."
The two Min's made their way back to their perspective house.
"Your friend is so pretty!" Lily bounced inside the house, jumping on the couch before sitting down. She remembered how her mother told her to be at her best behavior at her uncle's house.
"I guess he is." Yoongi took her Transformers' backpack and opened it, taking out her medicine, not before noticing how all her toy's were transformers. Not a single barbie or stuffed toy. "You like Transformers?"
"Yup! Optimus is my fave!" Lily pointed at the TV. "Can I watch some cartoons in your TV?"
"Yeah sure." Yoongi grabbed the remote and turned the TV on and signaled at a mic button. "If you hold onto this and tell it what you want to watch, it'll show you it."
"Huh?! Really?!" Lily pointed at Yoongi. "You do it!"
Yoongi held onto the button and spoke into the remote. "Transformers."
The TV switched off to a cartoon channel that was showing Transformers cartoons right now. Lily gasped. "That's awesome!"
Yoongi chuckled as he placed her medicine on the counter after passing Lily the remote.
His door opened and Jimin looked more refreshed and awake as he carried two cups of coffee. "Hi!"
Yoongi pointed at the cups. "Lily can't have coffee."
"Well who said this was for Lily you dummy?" Jimin passed him one cup. "It's for you."
Yoongi smiled. "Thanks."
Jimin leaned in and whispered. "Also, I don't know how to make pancakes."
Yoongi stopped himself from taking a sip of his coffee. "Then why are you here?"
"To help. You can just look it up online you know?" Jimin winked and went behind the counter and into the kitchen, grabbing one of the aprons that Seokjin had bought Yoongi. "So, I know we need eggs and flour... What else?"
Yoongi just stared.
"Come on, look it up! Don't just stand there. We have mouths to feed." Jimin chuckled as he opened the fridge and pulled out the eggs. He started to look through cabinets for flour, and when he did, he took the sugar next to it as well.
Yoongi had set his cup down and pulled out his phone already. "Milk, baking powder, salt... and says here it's optional but, butter."
"Ooh! Butter pancakes..." Jimin laughed to himself as he gathered the ingredients. "I have no idea if that makes a difference."
Yoongi chuckled and went into the kitchen, pulling out a mixing bowl, a spatula, a whisker, and a frying pan. He put on the other apron which had 'Grumpy Dad' spelled on it. Seokjin had insisted Yoongi was dad material but the younger ignored him.
Then, he remembered the time Seokjin came banging through his door demanding to make cookies with him. "Um, there are some chocolate chips in some cabinet. Should be add some?"
Jimin clicked his tongue and pointed at Yoongi. "Genius."
Yoongi read from his phone as Jimin pulled out the chocolate chips and placed them next to the ingredients. "Says to mix all the dry ingredients together first. Two cups of flour..." He took out the measuring cups for Jimin and decided to wait for him to measure the flour. Yoongi watched Jimin as he was very sloppy with the flour. He rolled his eyes and put his phone down. "Jesus Jimin, use a knife."
"A knife to measure?" Jimin watched Yoongi as he pulled out a butter knife and cut in the middle of the big lump of flour way past the measure cup and slide off one half back into the bag of flour, doing the same with the other half. "Wah! Awesome!"
"Do you cook or bake on your own?" Yoongi asked, skeptical.
Jimin squinted his eyes, an annoyed expression on his face as he pointed at Yoongi. "How dare you hyung? Of course I cook and bake on my own."
Yoongi shrugged, walking away to let Jimin continue as he grabbed his phone. "I guess Jin hyung just has a bunch of tricks up his sleeve."
Jimin finished measuring the flour and placing them on the mixing bowl. "What now?"
"Two teaspoons of baking powder."
Yoongi again watched as Jimin started to measure, but he shouted quickly. "Yah! That's tablespoons! You're gonna make the pancakes explode!"
Jimin pouted and stomped his foot. "Ugh, whatever! I'm a dancer, not a cooker."
Yoongi laughed as he pushed Jimin away from the ingredients and handed him his phone. "A cook. Not cooker."
Jimin giggled as they both looked at each other. They smiled at each other before being interrupted.
"Uncle Yoonie." They both looked down as Lily held onto her Optimus Prime action figure. "I need to go potty."
Yoongi wiped his hands on the apron and smiled. "Okay princess, you know how to go by yourself?"
Lily nodded.
"Okay, see that door to the left?" Yoongi pointed at the first door of the hallway. "That's the bathroom."
"Uncle Yoonie."
"Yes princess?"
She smiled, still shy. "Can I leave the door just a little open? 'M scared if I close it."
Yoongi smiled and nodded. "Sure thing kid."
Lily then hurried off to the bathroom and very carefully left the door open just slightly.
Jimin couldn't help but smile to himself as he measured the baking powder, this time correctly. Yoongi just seemed so soft with kids. Or at least Lily.
Yoongi walked back to the kitchen and pushed Jimin away from the ingredients again. "Nuh uh, you're not messing with the ingredients again."
Jimin pouted and grabbed Yoongi's phone. "Okay... One fourth a teaspoon of salt."
Jimin watched as Yoongi measured the salt so meticulously. His eyelashes were a lot longer than he thought. Hmm? He has a few small freckles on his nose. That's cute. "Jiminie."
Jimin blinked. "Yes hyung?"
"Next ingredient?"
"Right!" Jimin blushed as he looked down at the phone. "One tablespoon of sugar."
The two heard the toilet flush and then a soft, "Uncle Yoonie?"
"Yes?" Yoongi scrapped off the excess of the sugar and dumped the correct amount on the mixing bowl.
"I can't reach the sink to wash my hands."
Jimin set the phone down and smiled at Yoongi. "I got it."
Yoongi looked down at the phone. "Beat two eggs with milk... I'll need another mixing bowl..."
Jimin knocked on the door slightly. "Can I come in?"
"Yes!"
Jimin opened the door and Lily quickly did grabby hands. "Such well mannered princess."
Lily giggled as she was picked up. She opened the faucet and pressed some soap on her hands and began washing away. "Papa and mommy always told me that a good girl is always clean."
"That's very true."
Lily hummed to herself the alphabet in english, turning the faucet off once she was done.
Jimin put her down and signaled to the towel for he to dry off her hands, and as any good girl would, she followed along.
"So you know english?" Jimin asked as Lily grabbed his hand and followed him out the door.
"Yup! My mommy is from a place called Canada. Papa is from here, the good Korea!"
Jimin giggled at the 'good' part. "That's so cool. Both my parents are from here, Korea."
"The good one right?" Lily asked, worried for Jimin's sake that his parents were bad koreans.
"Yeah, the good one." Jimin looked over at Yoongi, about to say he needed to go off and help him.
"It's alright. Keep her busy while I finish off." Yoongi smiled as he looked down. "You obviously won't be much help."
Jimin rolled her eyes and followed Lily as she sat on the floor, pulling out her coloring books. "Here. You can have the Bumblebee coloring book."
"Thank you!" Jimin watched as she dumped all her coloring pencils and markers onto the floor.
"Hey Jimin, can I be a knight as well?" Lily asked as she grabbed a red coloring pencil, knowing Optimus Prime had some red on him.
"Oh that sounds cool. You want to be a princess knight?"
"Yes! So I can fight off bad guys!" Lily said excitedly as she gripped on the pencil wrongly, going over the lines. But she didn't care. Optimus still looked awesome as ever.
"Aren't you too young to be fighting off bad guys?" Jimin finally flipped to a clean image and grabbed the yellow pencil from the floor.
"I'm four only. I can punch, just not hard enough."
"Wah! You're four years old? That's so young! You can't be going around punching people." Jimin clicked his tongue a few times. "Princesses don't punch people."
"Knights do!" Lily stuck her tongue out to Jimin.
Yoongi had been listening in as he mixed ingredients together. "Knights don't punch. They use swords to fight."
Jimin clapped his hands and pointed at Yoongi while looking at Lily. "What he said."
"Even better! I'll slice people up!" Lily smiled, scaring Jimin a little.
"My type of gal." Yoongi chuckled.
"Oh, that's far too violent for such a young girl." Jimin pouted.
"How old are you Jimin?"
"I'm 21."
Lily's eyes went wide. She only knew how to count to thirty. It was beyond her imagination how old this guy was. "Shouldn't you be dead mister Jimin?"
Jimin laughed. "Hey, I'm not that old. If I'm supposed to be dead, then Yoongi is as well. He's 24."
Lily gasped and looked over at Yoongi. "Uncle Yoonie, are you a ghost?"
Yoongi chuckled as he put the chocolate chips in the mix, turning on the stove, before returning to mix the chocolate chips well. "Of course not. How do you know what being dead even means?"
Lily looked back down at her drawing. "I asked papa why other kids had two grandma's and two grandpa's and I only had one. He said grandma and grandpa Min are dead."
Jimin looked at Yoongi with a worried expression but the older smiled. "Did he tell you that they went to heaven?"
Lily nodded as she switched to a blue color pencil. "Yup. He said they have tons of fun over there. I asked if I could visit heaven but mommy said that's not possible. Not for a long long long time."
Yoongi looked down at his phone, turning it off. "It's okay. In the meantime, they'll still have fun."
"How do they have fun?" Jimin asked. He wanted Yoongi to talk more about his parents. The look in his face showed grief yet, he was smiling, reliving happy memories.
Yoongi looked at Lily as she waited for an answer. He poured some of the mix on the pan, ready to start making pancakes. "Well, grandma Min is probably playing the piano most of the time. If she isn't, then she's enjoying sunny days. Grandpa Min is doing some math, adding numbers since he liked to do that. If not, he listens to grandma Min play the piano, and walk with her as they enjoy sunny days."
Jimin smiled, quickly looking down at his barely colored Bumblebee. Lily giggled. "Papa said Uncle Yoonie plays the piano."
Yoongi set away the first plate of pancakes away and started to make the second plate. "I do."
Lily went back to her coloring book. "Wow! Optimus is looking good! Isn't he Jimin?"
Jimin smiled. "Beautiful!" He stared as Lily kept coloring. "Was your birthday Transformers themed?"
"My last birthday was!" Lily pouted. "Uncle Yoonie wasn't there."
Yoongi was a tad too focused on the pancakes to reply but he could still hear the conversation.
"Well maybe he was busy."
Lily shook her head. "Papa said Uncle Yoonie was too sad to come to my party."
Yoongi froze. He had forgotten that he was invited countless of times to Lily's fourth birthday, but at that time, he was too busy sulking in his room over life. Right after Suran left.
"I told Papa that cake could help, but he still didn't come." Lily sounded slightly sad.
Jimin smiled. "That's okay though. Sometimes people have to take time for themselves and be sad by themselves for a day."
Lily looked up and shook her head at Jimin. "Being sad is bad."
"Being sad is okay." Jimin kept on coloring on his own book. "People have emotions and sometimes we can't control our emotions. Letting them out is the best solution. Sometimes it's better to take some time for yourself and let them out alone."
Lily shrugged. "I'm almost always happy."
"Almost?" Jimin poked Lily's side. "Princesses should always be happy."
"Well I'm a princess knight. Knights get hurt so they feel sad sometimes, right?" Lily looked over at Yoongi, who had already come out of his frozen state and was attending the pancakes. "Right Uncle Yoonie? Knights hurt themselves and feel sad right?"
Yoongi nodded. "Yup."
"I play soccer." Lily said smiling but she quickly pouted. "The boys make fun of me for being the only girl that plays soccer."
"Want to know a secret?" Jimin asked, to which Lily nodded. He leaned in to whisper, but still said it normal. "I was the only boy in my ballet class."
Lily gasped. "You did ballet?"
"Yup." Jimin finished coloring with the yellow and grabbed the blue to color in Bumblebee's eyes. "I was the only boy there. The boys in my class would make fun of me and call me a girl. But I now have a better job, a better house, and better friends than all of them. Because I followed my dream."
Lily continued to gasp. "That's amazing!"
"Breakfast is ready." Yoongi called out as he turned off the stove and took off his apron.
Lily jumped up, coloring book in hand. "Uncle Yoonie, lookie at my Optimus!"
Yoongi looked down. Optimus had an extra ribbon drawn on his head. "Looks awesome."
"Jimin, show him yours!"
Jimin chuckled and showed him his colored Bumblebee.
Yoongi tsk'd and walked off to set the plates on the dining table. "Not original enough."
Jimin meant to tell him he followed the design like he was supposed to, but he just smiled and stared at Yoongi as he walked back and forth the kitchen and dining room.
He looked like such a dad right now. Jimin wondered what it would be like to have and raise a child with Yoongi. Jimin would definitely be the cool dad, that's for sure.
"Jimin, do you love my Uncle Yoonie?"
Jimin coughed, looking down at Lily as Yoongi had stopped to stare in mostly confusion at why Lily asked such question. "W-What?"
Lily smiled. "Mommy looks at Papa like how you look at Uncle Yoonie. I asked her why she smiles so much when she looks at Papa and she said it's because she loves him."
Jimin continued to cough, clearing his throat as he pushed Lily towards the dining table. "I'll be going then."
"Hmm? Where are you going?" Yoongi asked as he held another plate in his left hand, utensils on his right hand.
Jimin looked back at the dining table. There were already two plates. "Is that for me?"
"Well who else?" Yoongi set the plate down and pulled his chair out. "Come on, eat."
Jimin swallowed and sat down.
"Water okay?" Yoongi asked as he avoided Jimin's eyes. Lily just had to ask something so weird and make it awkward.
"Yeah..."
"Uncle Yoonie, you got juice?"
Yoongi chuckled at how casual she was now. "Apple juice okay?"
"Please and thank you!" Lily said and quickly slapped Jimin's hand, which was ready with a fork in hand. "No! Mommy says to wait for everyone to be sat down so we can sat."
Jimin chuckled as he put down the fork. "Everyone to be seated down."
"Seated..." Lily pouted and clapped her hands as Yoongi came back with two glasses of water and one with apple juice.
"Thanks Yoongs."
"You're welcome..."
"How come Jimin has a nickname for you Uncle Yoonie, but you don't have on for him?" Lily pouted.
The two older boys stared at each other and shrugged, Yoongi turning to Lily. "I'm not good with nicknames."
"Can I come up with a nickname for mister Jimin and you use it?" Lily asked, fanning her eyelashes in a begging matter.
"Sure." Yoongi chuckled.
Jimin quickly grabbed his fork again. "Let's eat up while you come up with a nickname."
Lily's pancakes had already been cut up into small pieces, so she started to eat quickly. Jimin mostly avoided eyes with Yoongi as the two ate.
"So Lily," Yoongi smirked to himself. "You think Jimin loves me?"
Jimin choked on a piece of his pancake, being totally ignored as Lily nodded, pancake in her mouth. "Thothally!" She swallowed the food in her mouth. "Do you love Jimin too?"
Yoongi looked at Jimin across the table, who stared back waiting for an answer, then turned back to Lily. "Well you said you think Jimin loves me. We don't have any confirmation of that though."
Lily turned to Jimin. "Do you love Uncle Yoonie?"
Jimin looked down at his pancakes and started to cut up another piece. "I wouldn't say I love him."
Lily pouted and turned to Yoongi. "I'm sorry Uncle Yoonie, Jimin says he doesn't love you."
Jimin then quickly shook his head and looked at Yoongi. "Actually, actually." They both turned to look at the blond. "I love him as a friend."
Lily smiled. "Nevermind! He does love you!" She then continued to eat.
Jimin looked down and started to eat his pancakes again, his cheeks and ears completely red.
"Lily, you should tell Jimin than Uncle Yoonie loves him too." Yoongi whispered, but still loud enough for Jimin to smile for.
"A-ha!" Lily then stood up, startling both of them. She pointed at Jimin then shook her head as she turned to Yoongi. "Chim Chim!"
"What?" They both said in unison.
The small girl pointed at Jimin. "Jimin." She turned to Yoongi again. "Chim Chim."
"I'm Chim Chim?" Yoongi chuckled.
"No, no! That's his nickname for you!" Lily clapped her hands before sitting back down.
It was quiet as they ate.
"So Chim Chim,"
Jimin couldn't help but choke on his pancakes again.
Yoongi smiled. "Want to watch a movie tomorrow?"
a/n: sorry this was long. i was gonna divide it into two parts but eh. technically i did?? here's jimin and yoongi with kids.
