vi . red or blue
seo-yoon and her team walked in. thanos and nam-gyu cheering and shouting like total idiots as the others behind them just walked like normal people.
myung-gi's head tilted as he got a better look at her. he was glad she made it, even despite their last conversation they had.
seo-yoon sat with her teammates, watching the doors every second. "ah, fuck me. so many survived." nam-gyu said after sighing.
"isn't that a good thing? if the prize money is still low, people will want to continue to play." seo-yoon said to him like it was obvious. nam-gyu rolled his eyes at her, going to min-su instead.
"yo. how many are we at now, do you think?"
"what?" min-su said, coming out of his knees that he was once in. nam-gyu stared at him with a smug look on his face.
"i'm asking you how many cockroaches do you think made it out of the last game?"
"uh i'd say about 200. yeah."
"how'd you know that? you ai? go around and count them up." nam-gyu demanded. seo-yoon furrowed her eyebrows at him. she looked towards min-su and shook her head.
"you mean.. now?" he asked nam-gyu. nam-gyu nods. "oh. okay." min-su said, going to stand up before se-mi put her hand on his shoulder and put him back down.
"hey, hold on. don't be an idiot. why bother counting?" se-mi interrupted as the group looked at her. "those masked guys'll come in and tell us soon, anyway."
"just shut the fuck up, bitch, okay?" nam-gyu asked her a tinge of anger in his words as his face slightly crunched up while he was talking to her.
seo-yoon rolled her eyes at him. how did she even want to pair up with them?
"stop." thanos says immediately after, putting his hands out. "what was your name?" thanos pointed towards min-su.
"oh. min-su."
"how old are you?"
"uh, i'm 27."
"you were born.. '97. so why take that shit from him? you're both the same age." thanos said towards min-su. seo-yoon actually liked how thanos was helping min-su out. "right, nam-su? you're '97?"
"nam-gyu." nam-gyu corrected thanos a small smile on his face.
"yeah, nam-gyu. weren't you born in '97?"
"yeah."
"then you're the same age. play nice, all right?" thanos said to both of them. seo-yoon looked away to look at the door, funny of him to say it out of all of them. "we need our teamwork tight. okay?"
"how old are you?" thanos continued to speak, looking towards seo-yoon. her head went away from the door and to him.
"27." she answered, putting a hand through her hair. it was tangled and knotty, but she still had nothing to fix it cause she was in here.
"you?" thanos says, pointing towards se-mi. se-mi went out of her daydream and to him.
" '96" she answered nonchalantly. seo-yoon looked at her, knowing that wasn't true with a slight smile on her face.
"that settles it. all three of you are the same, and you are the noona." thanos continued, pointing at all of them and then se-mi the most.
"hey, nam-su. call her noona man." thanos said towards nam-gyu with a small grin on his face. he hit nam-gyus shoulder slightly to get his attention. nam-gyu laughed but didn't do it. "do it."
the two bickered back and forth as the other three just stared around the room. there wasn't much to talk about after people got killed for entertainment in front of your eyes.
a couple of minutes later, the door opens. seo-yoon looked towards it, seeing everyone from jun-hee's team walk out. the smile on her face only widened once she saw jun-hee.
seo-yoon started to get up before thanos stopped her. "no, my lady, stay with the team." thanos said, putting his hand infront of her already standing legs. she looked down at him before just walking away without any words necessary.
seo-yoon walked over to jun-hee who was with her team sitting down. the team went quiet. she looked at them before clearing her throat and speaking. "i'm a friend. of jun-hee's."
jun-hee looked up at her and gestured for her to sit down. "oh of course your welcome to sit with us!" player 390 said. seo-yoon nodded her head at him.
"i'm glad you guys made it." seo-yoon spoke up with a smile not evident but her tone of voice. 001 nodded at her.
"thank you. that flying stone was perfect." he said with a laugh. jun-hee nodded in agreement as well as the others. "also, i'm sorry about earlier. i don't know what happened."
"it's okay." player 388 said after his apology.
"hey, it's fine. during jegi, if you hadn't stepped in to help with the last part, i never would've made it." gi-hun said with a smile to 001.
seo-yoon watched the conversation unfold. she had no idea what happened with their round, so she simply couldn't say anything.
"hey, 222, you doing all right?" 001 asked jun-hee. jun-hee answered truthfully as always.
"yeah. and thank you again for letting me join you guys." jun-hee said with a small smile. seo-yoon nodded along with her, even if she was never apart of their team.
they went on and on about their part of the game. it seemed that they were pretty good at it, but 001 wasn't really mentioned in it- is what seo-yoon noticed, anyway.
suddenly, 388 stood up from his usual sitting stance. everyones eyes looked up at him. "i was thinking, what if we go around and say what our real names are? i still don't know what to call either of you. same goes for you two." he said with a smile at his idea, looking towards all of them. seo-yoon nodded slightly and looked towards jun-hee. "i'll go first. kang dae-ho. 'dae' as in 'huge' 'ho' as in 'tiger'"
"now thats a cool name right there." player 390 said with a chuckle at the beginning. seo-yoon laughed about it for a second, it really was cool how names represented that type of stuff. meaning. "well, so, my name is park jung-bae. means 'righteous' and 'double' so, i should be living twice as righteously."
"and i'm kim jun-hee." jun-hee said, speaking up. having known the name already, the girl sitting next to her smiled at her in encouragement. "i don't think i know what it stands for."
"jun-hee, once we're out of here, go straight to a hospital. you've been under a lot of stress. you should get yourself checked out." 001 said with a smile towards her. his eyes catched onto seo-yoons. "and what about you? jun-hees friend." he said with a slight chuckle at the end.
everybody in the group watched her as she started to speak. "van seo-yoon." she said staring at them and then jun-hee. "i think it means.. soft or..?" she trailed off with a shrug as she looked down at her shoes that were slightly stained with red.
"well, good to see you, miss seo-yoon." gi-hun said with a nod towards her and a sweet smile. he seemed to notice something about her that made her stick out like no other. he then looked to the person sitting next to him, player 001.
"oh young-il, that's me." young-il said with a slight smile on his face. jung-bae said it again as young-il agreed. "you know, like 'yeong il.' 'zero one' in korean." his smile growing into a proud one as he gestured to his number.
seo-yoon laughed at it. "you got the same number as your name?" she asked after as he nodded with that same smile on his face. she nodded.
"oh, that's crazy! your name's the number you were given!" dae-ho quickly realized after seo-yoon said something. young-il continued to laugh as he nodded.
"and what's your full name? i just know you as gi-hun." young-il asked gi-hun, turning to him. gi-hun looked towards him, the realization hitting him quickly.
"oh, right, uhm.. seong gi-hun's my full name."
everyone in the group let out mutters as they said it out loud. "like out un- 'seong' hero?" young-il joked, letting out a laugh as everyone stared at him as they tried to crack a smile to make it less awkward.
suddenly, the buzzer buzzed. the sound echoing through the exhibit as everybodys eyes turned to who was going through the door. as if it wasn't a surprise, there were guards.
"you have made it through yet another game in the series. congratulations to you all. now, if i may please have your attention, i will announce the results of the second game."
the room went orange as the lights went dark and the piggybank being the only thing that was shining throughout. everybodys gazes looked up at it.
"over the course of the game another 110 players were eliminated, bringing the total prize money to 20.1 billion won. the remaining 255 players would each receive 78, 823, 530 won."
"hold on, what? that's not even 100 million. man that's not even 80."
"you said 110 died? no, the total has to be way higher than that! are you sure you guys didn't miss anyone?"
"we saw you shoot all those people! there were only 110?" another person shouted after another, causing chaos erupt throughout the room and bunks.
"this never gets old." seo-yoon muttered under her breath. her eyes glided over everyone quickly before slowing down when she saw myung-gi. he looked quite frustrated with the amount. he looked towards her way causing her ears to turn red and look away.
"your disappointment about the prize money is completely understandable. however, please remember that we always keep the door open for you to explore other opportunities. on that note, we will now begin the vote that will determine if you would like to continue to the next game."
the guards pushed out the red and blue button tray effortlessly. "whether you stay here and continue playing to increase your winnings or stop the games now and leave is a decision that we leave entirely up to you. we want you to feel empowered to exercise this right in a free and democratic manner."
seo-yoon looked away from the guards and looked towards the players that were next to her instead. "yo, seo-yoon!" thanos exclaimed with his hands around his mouth to make it louder.
she turned towards him with an expression that people were unable to read. once thanos catched her eyes he waved her over to where her group for six legs were.
"jun-hee, i have to go with my group. come to me whenever you need to- just don't go through whatever this is alone, alright?" seo-yoon said to jun-hee. jun-hee nodded with a sorrow expression as seo-yoon got up.
"seo-yoon, why are you going?" gi-hun asked, looking up at her. she looked back at him. she opened her mouth then closed it. he stared back at her.
"just back to my group for the last game." she admitted quietly to the group. he nodded understandably. young-il glanced at gi-hun then seo-yoon, wondering what he was going to do.
"we'll be there if you need help in the next game." gi-hun smiled at her after. seo-yoon nodded, starting to smile slightly.
"thank you." she said. that peace between the group was interrupted by thanos yelling her name again. she rolled her eyes in annoyance before walking over.
little did she know, player 044 was watching her from her bunk with that smile that was mischevious or had found out something new. she rubbed her fingers together in anticipation.
seo-yoon went on to thanos and her group. she simply dreaded to having to listen to him but if she had to be liked and have team members this would be the ones to do it with.
"remember to vote o. the big blue button, alright min-su?" thanos said passive aggressively, putting his hands on min-su's shoulders and massaging them.
"y-yeah.." min-su got out before thanos grinned and began to appreciate min-su even more.
"that's my boy!" thanos celebrated, he sniffles his nose for a second before stepping back and looking at ji-an and seo-yoon. "you two too."
"unlike last time, we will begin voting with player 001. player 001, please cast your vote."
thanos and nam-gyu were hyping min-su up as the voting continued. as ji-an and seo-yoon weren't that low of a number they didn't mind it.
after min-su voted, gi-hun was starting to yell before young-il - who had already voted - yelled over him. about how it was insane that they were voting for blue.
some people argued, some people agreed. some people even cried for some sympathy from the o's. "I don't want to die in here." the girl cried out.
a male from the o side started crying as well, how his business went into debt when it fell down. about how he needed half of it to even live with his family. "and what if you die?" young-il asked him as the male stopped crying out of shock.
soon enough, a guy had convinced the rest of the remaining players to vote for blue just for one more game. seo-yoon swallowed down the lump in her throat. she would rather vote x to not die, but needed the money for o.
it seemed like forever until it was time for the people in the 400's to vote. it gave seo-yoon some time to think about what to do. obviously, that amount wouldn't pay off her debt, leading her to be even less of a chance for her mother to survive- and even herself.
"player 444, please cast your vote." the guard announced. seo-yoon bit the inside of her cheek as she walked up to the buttons.
her hand was in the middle of the buttons. she looked up at the voting count, noticing that if she voted x or o, none of it would matter. o would win.
she looked down at the buttons before pressing x. her nose wasn't running, but she wiped her nose with her sleeve. the guards handed her a new patch as she gave her old one back to her.
as she was walking away, myung-gi looked at her as she started walking towards the 'x' side of the division. seo-yoon saw him glance at her but glanced back for the first time in forever. he tried to get a smile out which failed.
after gi-hun voted, the vote was over. "139 'o's to 116 'x's. based on the majoritys decision, all players will proceed to the third game tomorrow morning. thank you for your cooperation."
some people looked down in sadness, denial, anger, while some were looking up at the money with happiness, joy, and cheerfulness.
only until tomorrow comes.
