iii . voting

seo-yoon sat there, exhausted. she looked at her hands that were clearly shaking. she witnessed the deaths of many different people that were strangers, but now they are very clearly dead people.

once she finally looked up she noticed that everyone was looking down, not even one that she watched looked up. the only thing she thought is, how did player 456 really know what would happen?

no one dared to speak. a silence spoke louder than words. she wanted to speak to someone, but who?  all the stress was probably on jun-hees shoulders as she was pregnant and in this place.  won ji-an looked particularly busy looking at the ground. the only people she knew in that place were rather.. non spoken.

she went on to just sit there with silence. she exhaled shakily before the lights went on, causing her to blink and see the guards in sight. the ones that had most likely killed the people out there. she could never think of them in another way.

everyone started scrambling and hiding underneath the beds, behind the beds, and even behind other players.

"you have successfully made it through the first game. congratulations to you all. now if i may have your attention, i will announce the results so far." seo-yoon's gaze looked up to the screen, showing the numbers dropping.

"out of 456 players, 91 have been eliminated. which means 365 players have completed the first game. once again, congratulations to all of you for making it through the first game."

"sir, listen to me! let us go, please! please! dont kill us! i know- i know my son owes money. i swear, ill pay it back. i will ill do whatever it takes. ill pay everything. just please, just forgive me and my son." an older lady begs the guards.

myung-gi's gaze followed the back of the lady's head before over to seo-yoon. she seemed to be very shaky, considering the stuff that had just happened to them. all he could think about was the stuff he said to her, that could've been his last words to anyone at all- especially her.

the lady continued begging the guards before others started to join in. "players, there seems to be a misunderstanding. we are not trying to hurt you or collect your debts. we are simply providing you with an opportunity." the guard said over the numerous begging players at their knees.

"consent form clause three!" a player shouted after the guard was done with it's sentence. seo-yoon's head peaked to see the player, 456. " 'if the majority of players agree to stop playing, the games will be terminated.' isn't that correct?"  seo-yoons eyebrows went up with surprise with how he memorized that paper. she just signed it without a thought in mind.

"that is correct."

"then we'll do that. we'll put it to a vote."

"if thats what you'd like. during these games we will always respect your right to freedom of choice. but before we vote, we will reveal how much prize money has accumulated after the first game."

the lights went a dark tinge of orange, the piggy bank lighting up from it. myung-gi looked up at it noticing the money being put in it. he looked at jun-hee then back up at it.

"a total of 91 players were eliminated during the first game. therefore, 9.1 billion won has been accumulated so far. if you decide to stop playing and leave now, the remaining 365 players will split the 9.1 billion amongst themselves. meaning, you each leave with an equal share."

"okay. how much per share?" a player asked, being everybodys exact question.

"each player would get 24, 931, 500 won." the guard announced. seo-yoon sighed once he answered. that wouldn't be much of her debt- not even half of it. she could guess a lot of the other players in the room were feeling the same.

"20 million, what happened to 45 billion?" thanos exclaimed to the guard. she couldn't help but agree with him. if they were promised that much money if they won it all, then they should at least get 25% of that.

"as per the rules of the games, 100 million won is added to the piggy bank for each player eliminated. if you decide to play the next game, and more players are eliminated, then the total prize money will increase again accordingly."

seo-yoon started blocking out the voices. she couldn't care about anything in that moment. only 24 million? she needed more than that, a lot more than that.

"with that, the voting may begin." there was a small tray that had a blue circle button, and a red button with an x on it. seo-yoon knew which one she would pick, dead and fast. "if you wish to continue playing, press the button with the o, if you wish to stop playing, press the red button with the x. you will vote in order of player number, from highest to lowest."

seo-yoon looked down at her number that was on her jacket. 444. that would mean she would be up very soon to cast a vote. she thought these games were terrible, but she cant go out with something she can't help her mother and herself with.

"player 456." player 456 started walking before stopping and turning when another voice started talking. she was rambeling about something that seo-yoon couldn't quite understand.

he continued walking, and as expected he pressed the red button. seo-yoon would too, if she didn't know how much money that was gonna be shared throughout all of them.

shortly after a couple of different numbers, seo-yoon went up. "player 444." the guard said. the players watched, the x's were up by 1.

she looked at both the buttons. the x seemed to be calling her name, but she quickly stopped and didn't think before pressing a button. the blue glow went in her face.

nobody said anything. people thought that she would go for not playing anymore, but everybody has their backstorys.

she got handed the blue o patch, putting it on her chest where it was supposed to go. it felt like the numbers went on forever. red, blue, red, blue.

"player 333."  myung-gi walked up thoroughly. he already knew what he was gonna pick. he looked at jun-hee as he started to walk down, before looking away quickly. he pressed the blue button, the shine glowing on his sweaty face.

seo-yoon watched, looking him up and down. his new patch showing off his new personality. her newish friends were probably gonna kill her now, all because of the patch.

multiple of players went. the score was 87, 93. "wait a minute! dont do this to yourselves. just think for a second. cant you see whats going on?" player 456 shouted to the crowd as if they were children that needed direction. she watched him, tilting her head to the side, wondering what he was gonna say now.

"we just need to focus on getting out of here- and by doing that we need to win the vote!" he explained, gesturing towards the screen with the amount of votes on it, looking at the left over crowd.

some of the players started to doubt him, calling him a fraud and a plant, and they started wondering why he even knew anything at all from the previous game they had all played together.

everybody started talking about him, before getting interrupted. "I've played these games before!" he shouted out in anger. seo-yoons eyes softened slightly. the fact that he'd played them, and possibly won it, and then came back was so remarkable to her. everybody went silent. "i said I've played these games before! i knew about the first game because I'd already done it. cause i played the exact same one. i played these games three years ago- and everyone i played with were killed! every single one!"

"wait a minute. if everyone else died, then how did you survive?" a player asked that was arguing with him just a second ago. "unless.. you're saying that you were the only winner..?"

"it's true. i was the only one who made it." everyones gasps went around the room. "if you keep playing until the end, i guarantee every person in this room.. will eventually end up like those players. we will all be killed." while saying it, he looked at seo-yoon, noticing the way her eyes were softening whenever he told the group something new. it reminded him of his daughter, making him a bit emotional, tears coming lightly in his eyes.

"what a load of bullshit." player 100 said. player 456 looked towards him with a confused look. seo-yoon could tell that player 456 wasn't lying- she just knew.

player 100 was always an asshole, even myung-gi knew it being one himself. player 100 went on about how player 456 could help all of them win. seo-yoon knew it wouldn't actually help, just make them weaker.

the votes then started again after the guards addressed whatever was going on. one after one each player went up again.

the numbers on both sides went up quickly. the players getting shorter and shorter it wasn't until the two were tied together. 182, 182.

everybody on the side started cheering for the player voting for their side, to continue playing. seo-yoon stood there as everyone cheered. she felt bad that 182 other people wanted to go home, but thats the thing about life- you have to overcome whatever comes through.

"and finally, player 001." the guard announced. everyones attention flashed to the only person left in the back. she didn't even know that there was a 001. it must be her blindness, though.

the men started walking with a purpose clearly. he got up to the tray, holding his hand in between the buttons. his hand then dragged itself to the blue button, meaning to stay.

everyone went out in celebration on the o side. seo-yoon smiled as they celebrated lightly, glancing over at the other side. jun-hee watched her before looking down and walking away like every other disappointed member of the side.

"jun-hee-" she called out before getting back into the side cheering because of someone moving quickly to celebrate even more by jumping.

seo-yoon shook her head as she looked down and started walking to the x side, looking for jun-hee again.
