ii . don't move

seo-yoon stood there behind multiple players. the person ahead of her being player 380. she had black short hair, like player 222 did, except without the blonde highlights. she wondered where dhe was anyway.

once player 380 was done with their photo, she went infront of the screen. "smile." it ushered. seo-yoon looked up at the screen, smiling a little. as soon as it took the photo, she soon followed after player 380.

"i feel like i know you, you know?" player 380 said randomly, her gaze still ahead infront of her. seo-yoon glanced at the girl from behind, not understanding what she's getting out.

"sorry. i think you're talking about the wrong person-" seo-yoon said, fixing her jacket after she fiddled with it while waiting. the girl ahead of her shook her head.

"se-mi." the girl said, looking briefly behind her. seo-yoon blinked. the girl didn't seem to have made much alliances yet from the looks of it.

"van seo-yoon." she responded. ji-an didn't respond, and just looked straight ahead. seo-yoon looked around the room. the players scattered across different staircases.

the place seemed to have a million stairs, at least that's what seo-yoon thought. the many colors in the place were hurting her eyes. it was mostly pink and yellow.

once she finally got to the top of the multiple stairs, everybody seemed a bit exhausted but excited for whats ahead. one guy even said, "did there have to be so many stairs?"

each group started arriving, one after one. as seo-yoon stepped onto the ground of the first game she felt weirdly intimidated. the dirt on the ground, the big doll in the middle, and a finish line, all felt intimidating to her.

she tried to walk closer to it. she muttered quiet "excuse me's" while she went through the crowd. as she was, someone moved, bumping their arm into her.

"oh sorry." seo-yoon said, looking up at the person she bumped into. myung-gi looked at her, his espressoon turning to his natural look.

"it's you." he said blandly, as if there was nothing that he could possibly worry about. seo-yoon looked at him again, glancing away for a second.

seo-yoon nodded. "aren't you gonna thank me?" she asked with a scoff at the end. myung-gi clenched his jaw for a second.

"you didn't do anything to help me." he said, glancing away with a bit of annoyance in his eyes. she put her tongue into the side of her cheek before laughing bitterly.

"i saved you from getting your ass beaten." she replied with a roll of her eyes. before he could reply, the three doors that they had entered in were slammed shut.

"welcome to the first game. you will be playing red light, green light." a voice spoke out amongst the place. seo-yoon stood slightly infront of myung-gi not wanting to move cause of the unexpected.

the voice continued to repeat the instructions. they were pretty simple, don't move after the doll days red light. seo-yoon had played this as a kid with friends, so it shouldn't be as hard.

myung-gi mutters things under his breath, which was the least of seo-yoon's worrys. she looked around for a moment, seeing player 222. she's never gotten her name. her hair softly blowing in the breeze as she listened. seo-yoon noticed the way she held one of her hands over her stomach. it made her curious.

suddenly, a person started making his way through people, going slightly across the finish line, turning back towards them. seo-yoon judged but stayed silent.

"everyone! everybody, you need to pay attention! hey, listen up!" the player shouted, waving his arms. she would soon recognize him as player 456. everybodys eyes soon fell on him. "i'm gonna tell you something and you gotta listen close!" seo-yoon tilted her head at that, didn't the instructions just imply it? "this isn't just a game, it's more than that. if you move after red light, you're going to be shot!"

seo-yoon scoffed at that. she believed him but also didn't, making it hard to decide which. everybody doubted him. scoffs echoed across the crowd.

myung-gi watched, his eyebrows slightly furrowed as he listened to what the man had to say. "if they catch you moving, you're going to be killed! they're gonna shoot you. there's guns in the walls!" a couple people looked up the walls. seo-yoon noticed a slight black thing that she could make out despite being far away, making her shiver slightly. is this man telling the truth or making them scared?

"you see that big doll thing there? look at it! it's eyes are like motion tracking sensors! if it sees you move, you die!" the man shouted again. many people talked about him and his apparent claim. "you gotta believe me, i swear i'm not lying!"

soon after he said that the doll started moving so it was turning towards the tree. seo-yoons breath hitched slightly. now it was time to see if his claim was real or fake.

"no matter what, do not panic! you can't afford to! remember everything i told you! stay as still as you can! don't try to run away!" the man shouted after the doll was fully ready.

"with that, let the game begin." a voice said throughout the place again. seo-yoons heart was thumping against her chest. even if they shot at people or not when they moved, she was still afraid of losing the opportunity.

a five minute timer started on the screen. the man got his hands out. "green light." the doll said. everybody started running, but quickly stopped because of how quick it was between the two. "red light." the doll said turning its body around.

"now freeze!" the man shouted out. nobody dared to move an inch. they still didn't know if that guy was shit talking or if he was telling the truth. seo-yoon exhaled calmly, relaxing herself to make sure she stayed still. she didn't dare to look at the time, knowing it would make her panic if she wasn't close enough to it by a certain time. the eyes moved around like crazy, scanning the field.

everybody stayed still. "good job! that's it, keep nice and calm, just like that. you got it? move steady as you go, and then stop before red light." player 456 shouted out. "if you do that, we will all make it out alive!"

once the doll turned around again, all of them waited in anticipation for it to say, "green light!" peoples legs started pumping, as did seo-yoons. she was infront of some people, but behind some other as well. "red light!"

"freeze!" player 456 shouted again. he was now in the middle, slightly being behind than other players. seo-yoon couldn't see him, but could tell he was in the same spot as before. "all right, good, try to relax. stay where you are!"

some people muttered around seo-yoon, trying not to be seen. "that dude's high or some shit." a man muttered to the person standing next to him, still not moving an inch. seo-yoon moved her eye to the side where the person was. she couldn't see him, but could tell  he was annoying.

the routine was getting pretty obvious. go, stop, go, stop. it became pretty repetitive until rounds later when someone screamed randomly. seo-yoon could tell it was a girl, and that she was moving around from the ups and downs of her voice. her eyes went to the side again, not daring to look.

before anyone could do anything they heard a gunshot. seo-yoon flinched as she tried not to move. she exhaled shakily, her heart beating more than before as she realized that shit was happening.

"listen to me, nobody moves! dont turn your head, dont do anything!" player 456 shouted again. things were getting more and more real and nothing could stop it.

"player 196, eliminated." the voice sounded through the game. seo-yoons heart dropped at it, even if she didn't know her.

a lady screamed, a gunshot right after. assuming that others did as well was an understatement. multiple gun shots went after one another.

people were screaming and screaming, and from seo-yoons ears she could tell they were banging on the doors they entered through earlier. she thought that they didn't hear the clink of the lock when it slammed. gunshot after another. it was neverending.

suddenly, it all stopped. seo-yoon could finally breathe. as the final gunshit echoed through the air, her breath hitched. "i will repeat the rules again." the voice echoed through the game, as the gunshots just did. seo-yoon needed to listen but couldn't. they just killed people, and they were the pieces they had to knock off on the chess board.

"green light." the doll said again. no one moved, not wanting to get killed like the previous people had. myung-gi swallowed the lump that was in his throat as he watched the doll carefully. "red light!"

nobody moved for another round except the player 456. why would anyone move anyway, in the fear of being killed?

"if you don't cross the line in time, they'll still kill you! look at the doll's eyes! they're cameras that scan the field for motion! but it's not able to detect you if you're behind something! so if you're short, line up behind someone who's taller than you! single file, like you're forming a conga line! time's running out! go at the next green light!" the player shouted.

myung-gi looked down in thought, glancing at seo-yoon infront of him, before back at the doll. "green light!" the doll said. myung-gi took no time to put seo-yoon behind him. despite having a argument before, it was life or death there.

"what?" seo-yoon said lightly to herself before catching up to myung-gi that was already walking with their line.

everybody's groups seemed to move together, distant between each line safe and even. it made the process more trusting than running free.

"red light!" the doll turned around slightly. seo-yoon lost support of her knee, putting her foot down on the ground again. the person behind her, who saw it looked at her hair. luckily, she got to fix it before the doll turned all the way around.

as some of gunshots fired, she didn't flinch anymore, just went on with it. after the multiple different ones from the past rounds, she couldn't even think about it.

the next rounds went on, the groups moving together efficiently, deaths, and more fear. seo-yoon looked at the clock quickly, noticing how short it was until all fof them were gonna be shot if they didn't finish this rubbish of a game.

"run for it! go!" player 456 shouted. everybody wasted no time, already starting to run when the doll said so. seo-yoon went with all her might, crossing the finish line.

she exhaled shakily. she looked at every person lying on the ground. people at the doors, as she suspected, blood spilling out of them. she couldn't help but think if that was her.

her heart got faster by the second, swallowing spit down her dry throat. she walked towards the wall, a cornfield detailed on it. she slid down it, not caring what anybody thought. everybody almost died out there and that's that.

when someone sat down by her, she didn't even care to look at them from how tired and traumatized she was from this. the person breathed in and out heavily, holding their stomach, trying to steady their breathing.

"in, out." seo-yoon said demonstrating for the girl. she knew what was going on with her, her rounded stomach, and the way she runned during the games. player 222 followed her breathing tactics, it slowly helping her.

"thank you." she said with no smile, but her eyes big and bright despite the despair that just happened to them. "i'm jun-hee." seo-yoon glanced over at jun-hee.

"seo-yoon." she got out lightly. jun-hee stared at her and nodded. she looked towards seo-yoon's shoulder then back up at her. seo-yoon could care less and just nodded.

myung-gi watched from afar, analyzing the both of them. his breathing heavy as well. jun-hee caught him staring, giving him a roll of her eyes, going back onto seo-yoon's shoulder.
