Reflections of the Beast
The cavern echoed faint whispers as the black Indoraptor prowled through the shadows, its gleaming red eyes piercing the darkness. Every movement was calculated, claws clicking faintly against the rocky ground. Its nostrils flared, catching the faintest whiff of something tantalizing—prey.
Then, like a phantom emerging from a dream, the grand black palace loomed ahead, carved entirely of gleaming obsidian. Its spires twisted skyward, cutting jagged paths against the dim light seeping from the glowing stalactites above. A sly grin crept across the Indoraptor's face, the glimmer of satisfaction flickering briefly in its eyes.
"Finally," it hissed, the voice low and venomous, blending with the ambient sounds of the cave. Its tail swished behind it, leaving faint lines in the dust as it stalked toward the imposing structure.
The path was a labyrinth of knotted roots, gnarled and twisted like skeletal fingers reaching out to grasp the unwary. It weaved through effortlessly, pausing every so often to sniff the air, its heightened senses guiding it closer to its quarry.
Before long, its gaze landed on the somber guards stationed at the palace entrance. Their forms were strange—part ethereal, part corporeal, like pirouetting shadows given substance. They drifted back and forth, their ghostly forms exuding an otherworldly chill.
The Indoraptor's smirk widened into a predatory grin. "Pathetic," it murmured.
Without a sound, it leaped forward, a shadow slicing through the gloom. In a blur of black scales and quills, it dismantled the guards one by one. Each movement was an art form: fluid, precise, merciless. As the last of the ghostly figures dissolved into wisps of smoke, the Indoraptor stood amidst the fallen, its chest heaving with anticipation.
Its gaze lifted to the palace doors, massive slabs of obsidian etched with intricate, foreboding runes. Whatever lay within would soon meet its reckoning.
The hunt was far from over.

The stillness of the grand chamber shattered with the thunderous entry of the guard, his breath ragged and face ashen. I was lounging near the towering shelves of books, the dim amber light casting flickering shadows over the obsidian walls. Startled, I snapped the book shut with a sharp growl, the sound reverberating through the air.
"Your Highness, there's been a murder!" the guard exclaimed, the words tumbling out in a panicked rush.
I straightened, fixing him with my crimson glare. The air around me grew heavy, thick with an aura of barely restrained menace. "Who's dead?" I demanded, my voice a venomous hiss that made him flinch.
Before he could reply, Vasago appeared, his dark form gliding in from the hallway, the smooth black feathers of his wings trembling faintly. He had clearly been disturbed from his post, yet he carried himself with that signature icy composure. "It's the ghost outside your palace," Vasago interjected, his golden eyes narrowing as he smoothed a ruffled wing. "It claims to be some sort of copy of you. Sneaky thing, skulking about the palace grounds. Please, Your Highness, deal with it before it takes the eggs."
I bristled at his words, rising to my feet in one fluid motion, the quills on my back rattling with latent aggression. "A copy of me?" I growled, my voice low and dangerous. My mind churned at the implications. Whatever it was—whoever it was—dared to imitate me, to trespass on my territory, to kill one of my guards?
The mention of the eggs only stoked the flames of my fury.
My tail lashed out, striking the ground with a sharp crack as I stalked toward the door, the guard hastily stepping aside. "If it wants to pretend to be me, it'll learn soon enough what it means to face the real thing," I snarled.
Vasago followed close behind, his talons clicking against the smooth obsidian floor. "Your Highness," he ventured cautiously, "if this copy is anything like you, it could be... formidable."
I shot him a withering glare. "Then it will make the hunt all the more enjoyable."
With that, I stormed out of the chamber, my claws curling in anticipation of the reckoning that awaited.

The courtyard was eerily silent, save for the faint dripping of blood onto the smooth obsidian tiles. The air was thick with the metallic tang of death. The intruder—a male Indoraptor—stood amidst the carnage, his sleek black scales glistening in the moonlight. A sinister yellow stripe ran down his side, a stark contrast to the crimson one that marked me.
His smirk was dark and twisted as he toyed with the severed head of the fallen guard, his claws digging into the flesh with sickening ease. He held it aloft as if it were a trophy, his golden eyes gleaming with malice.
My arrival didn't faze him. If anything, his smirk deepened as he turned to face me fully.
"Ah, there you are at last, Onyx," he purred, his voice a low, mocking drawl. He let the head drop to the ground with a wet thud, his claws flexing in anticipation. "I've been waiting for you for moons. But no, you had to make things difficult, hiding under the foot of the government, of all places."
My lips pulled back into a snarl, revealing rows of sharp teeth. The sight of this doppelgänger—the audacity of him—made my blood boil. "You dare to come into my palace, slaughter my guards, and act as if you belong here?" I growled, my quills rattling with barely restrained fury.
He chuckled, the sound deep and taunting. "Belong? Oh, Onyx, you misunderstand. I don't need to belong—I am here to remind you of what you truly are. No government leash can change the fact that you're a predator, a killer, just like me."
He stepped closer, his movements deliberate and menacing. "The world has no place for tame beasts, Onyx. I'm here to drag you back to where we belong."
I dropped into a low crouch, my tail lashing behind me as I bared my teeth. "If you think for one second that I'll be anything like you, you're more delusional than I thought. And you'll regret stepping paw into my territory."
The male Indoraptor laughed, his gaze blazing with challenge. "Then come and show me, Your Highness. Prove that you're as fierce as they say."
Without hesitation, I lunged. The fight for dominance had begun.
