ONE ━━━ THE GIRL
WHO HAD GIVEN UP
WHY?
YOUR HANDS TREMBLED as you held the letter and ripped it open, keeping the paper inside while throwing its envelope in the trash bin beside you.
Your silent cries were the only sounds echoing around the cubicle you were in as you were just alone, alone to drown in your pity and humiliation.
Your vision became blurry from the tears as you read the supposed-to-be love letter, some of the teardrops landing on the pink paper.
Why does one love letter bring you so much pain?
Oh yeah. It was because the only person who has always been kind to you broke your heart in itty-bitty pieces.
Word after word, your chest felt heavy and it was agonizing you little by little, feeling your stomach churn uncomfortably as you continued reading.
You bit your bottom lip, trying to suppress your cries as you stood up from the toilet lid. You turned the lock open and walked out of the cubicle, moving over to the sink then gazing at your pitiful self in the mirror.
What a complete mess.
Your bloodshot eyes have gotten puffy from minutes of bawling your eyes out, the tear-stains on your cheeks were apparent on your face, while your E/C-colored eyes that were filled with admiration before was replaced with dread and pain.
"I-I'm sorry Y/N... I—"
"It's fine! No biggie!"
You waved your hand aimlessly and laughed off the confession you just made, trying to mask the hurtful expression in your eyes but that didn't fool the guy easily.
"Well... G-Goodbye!"
You then took the pink envelope from his hands and bowed in 45 degrees, leaving the area quickly and rushing inside the girls' bathroom.
You got inside one of the cubicles and sat on the toilet lid, feeling your chest throb in pain as tears prickled up at the corner of your eyes.
Your ears perked up when you heard footsteps suddenly drawing closer to the bathroom and gasped softly. Panic was evident in your eyes as you tried to fix yourself up but it was too late.
"Ehhh? Look what the cat dragged in~."
A low-pitched voice giggled as they saw your small figure standing by the sink. Two other girls went inside the lavatory as well, tailing behind the newcomer in the middle as she stood by the entrance door.
The girl started to strode over to her fellow second-year, her heels clicking every time she took a step before stopping right in front of your hunched figure, leaning over a bit to take a look at you.
The brunette examined the pitiful girl from head to toe before letting out a snort. "Look at yourself. I wonder what the hell happened to you!" She gasped exaggeratedly, her voice faking sympathy and glanced down at your hand, soon noticing the paper you were holding.
"Oh?~ A love letter? This is interesting!" The girl giggled and quickly snatched the letter away from the other girl's hand, your eyes widening in shock as you tried to grab the love letter back.
"Give it back Sakarai-san!" You yelled out and tried to reach for it again, only to be held back by Sakarai's friends. Your eyes were filled with panic, feeling a mixture of emotions bubbling up as you watched Sakarai read your letter.
When the brunette heard the H/C-haired girl yelled at her, she moved her attention towards you as her mocking smirk got replaced with a scowl.
Sakarai gripped on the paper tightly and stomped over to you, the clicking sounds of her heels getting louder and louder until it stopped when she stood in front of you.
"You don't have the right to raise your voice at me. You don't even have the right to confess to Hiroshi! What the hell made you think he'd even date you?!" Sakarai hissed as she shoved her finger up to your chest harshly, making you stumble back a bit from the force.
"You're just a nobody! An ugly bitch who doesn't deserve to be with someone like him!" She screamed at your face, a hint of venom lacing each word as she barked at you, making you flinched a little from the volume of her voice.
Sakarai drew closer to your face, the brunette's angry features changing back to her sly expression. She then leaned over to your ear, feeling your body tense up and whispered out, "Or maybe he foolishly believed the rumors about a certain sensei~".
Your heart dropped from her words and turned your head to the side, looking at Sakarai with a look of disbelief. "T-That's not true! Hiroshi would never believe those lies!" You stuttered out and watched the female's lips turned up into a devilish grin.
"Oh, but he did..."
Sakarai trailed off, her eyes glinting with taunt and enjoyment as she looked straightly at your bewildered ones. "Hiroshi rejected you because he believed all those rumors about you. He doesn't want you! You're nothing but a stupid slut to him." Sakarai sneered and stepped back, the two girls releasing you from their hold.
You went silent, your heart breaking into pieces once again as you stared at the ground, feeling the abandonment and betrayal hitting you like a bullet.
"W-Why would he..." You thought out loud, your shoulders starting to shake as you tried to hold back the tears, but some have already started to drop onto the tiled-floor. You felt the walls closed in on you as your breathing started to get ragged while your throat went dry, finding it hard to breathe like something was blocking your air pipes.
Sakarai giggled at the pathetic sight in front of her and spun around, gesturing her friends to follow behind her as she sauntered away from you, walking over to the entrance of the lavatory.
She stopped in her tracks, glancing over her shoulder to get a final look at your pitiful form before throwing the letter down at your feet.
"Pathetic. You don't deserve to breathe the same air as Hiroshi..." The female trailed off and left the room, finishing off her sentence with something you've heard of again and again.
"So do us a favor and kill yourself."
The room went silent once again. Your E/C-colored eyes stared at the creased letter on the ground, crouching down and picking it up with a shaky hand. Tears were still at the corner of your eyes as you didn't hesitate to crumple the paper into your hand.
You gritted your teeth in irritation, sniffling as you stood up by using one knee. You glanced yourself at the mirror, your breath starting to calm down as you frowned at the pitiful sight of your reflection.
You're really pathetic huh?
You clenched your fists, making the crumpled paper crinkle lightly, and rushed out of the bathroom. You ignored the stares of some of the students who passed by you, quickening your pace and even disregarding a student when you bumped into them, dropping the letter behind accidentally.
You were sick and tired of trying to survive this hell hole known as your school. You were sick and tired of your mental and emotional health being tumbled over and over again. You were sick and tired of being ridiculed and harassed for just existing.
You were sick and tired of being the victim.
The pain inside you continued to grow each day of your high school life and you now realized that there's only one thing that could make all the pain disappear. Those people have been telling it to you for a long time and you were gonna grant their wish soon.
Nobody cares about you anyway. So why bother existing?
"Hey... Don't do it please."
A soft but deep voice spoke up, which made you turn your head over to the person, seeing an ebony-haired male just a few feet away from you.
You widened your eyes from the slightly panicked expression on his face, shocked that someone would stop you from doing this and tightly gripped on the railings once more.
Maybe someone does care about you after all.
