I
ย ย ย "Daddy please ?"ย
ย ย "(y/n) Aaliyah Ackerman. I already said no, you know the rules."
ย ย Once again you found yourself begging your father, Levi, for a sense of freedom. Being the daughter of a notorious gang boss has stripped you of a normal life. There were very strict rules you had to follow. For instance, you couldn't walk alone anywhere farther than a mile's radius without one of Levi's guards. When you had to go from class to class on campus, somebody would accompany you. Oh and making your own friends? Forget about it. Your friends were basically the people your father allowed you to grow up around. You basically couldn't do anything other than pissing, shitting, or sleeping by yourself. You hated it and yearned for a feeling of normality.
ย ย "But dad it's the first party of the semester. Even Connie is-"
ย ย "Enough ! I'm not Connies father. I'm yours. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go on a business trip this weekend. I'll be back."
ย ย "Nigga this shit gotta be racist at this point," you hiss under your breath while crossing your arms. You scrunched your face up.
ย ย With a lethal stare, Levi whipped his head around to face you. "What did you just say to me ?"
ย ย You look over to your mom, silently begging her to try and convince her husband to let you go but she simply responded back with a shrug, looking away. Your father walks over to hug you but you quickly move out of the way. Levi looks at you and sighs, nods to your mom, and heads out of your apartment.
ย ย With tears beginning to form in your eyes, you storm upstairs to your room, slamming the door behind you. Out of instinct and past experiences you open the door back up.
ย ย "I didn't mean to slam it," you say with annoyance in your voice. You then close the door a little softer this time and throw yourself onto your bed. You bury your face into your white pillow case and let out little weeps and low curses.
ย ย After a solid five minutes, you sit yourself up and facetime Connie, one of your best friends. Your fathers were very close colleagues, so naturally, when you both were born you spent almost every day together.
ย ย The phone begins ringing. And ringing. And ringing. And still ringing. He must already be at the party, you thought to yourself as you let out a soft tch. You sigh and walk over to your window. Your favorite part about your room was definitely your window. It gave you a feeling of being free, since your window led to a fire escape. Sometimes, you would step out onto it and just stand there to get a breath of fresh air. If you were feeling spontaneous you would walk up and down the fire escape's stairs to the ground floor.
ย ย You sit on the window sill with your eyes letting out the remaining tears and rest your head on the wall next to you, looking at how the city's lights lit up the night. Strands of your blonde and black hair lace stuck to the parts of your face that were wet because of your tears. Thoughts of what a normal girl would be doing right now swarmed your head. Falling in love, taking a walk, maybe even at a dance club with her friends. All of which, you won't experience anytime soon.
ย ย Your daydreaming was interrupted to the sound of your doorknob turning.
ย ย "Hey cuz'. Heard you're stuck inside." You see your cousin Mikasa walk into your room holding a bag of your favorite snacks and candy. Mikasa , though she was your cousin, was someone you considered to be your closest friend, besides Connie. After putting the snacks down on your vanity, she goes to sit on your bed and pats her lap, indicating for you to come to her.
ย ย You got up from where you sat in the window and plopped your head onto her lap. You vented and cried to her, as she played in your wig. "It's just not fair Mik, why do I have to suffer because my dad's tryna be Scarface."
ย ย Your cousin lets out a hearty chuckle. "Now (y/n) you know good and well that it's deeper than that. It's the family business. And eventually you are going to have to step up with whoever your father picks for you to ma-"
ย ย "See that's the problem Mikasa," you say as you sit up,"why does my father have to pick who Iย marry ? Why do Iย ย have to step up to a business I want no parts of ? It's bullshit. No other girl has to go through this."
ย ย "You're right," you hear a voice say from your doorway. It was your mother. Her figure showed through her red, silk robe. Her shiny, chocolate arms were crossed over her chest. She walks to you. "I never had to live like this. When I was 18, I was dancing my heart away at Les Inferno. That's when I met your father. After falling in love him, I realized that dedicating my life to this family was worth any 'fun' my homegirls said I would miss out on."
ย ย "Okay but mom you had a chance to live your years out. I'm 18 and have never been to a party." Your eyes began to water again, just by the thought of it. Your life was sad. Like sad as fuck.
ย ย ย "And that's gonna change tonight," your mother says in a stern tone. "You need to start getting out of the house but we'll have to keep this between us three."
ย ย You and Mikasa look at each other and nod your heads, vowing to keep this between the three of you. Your mother rushes to her room. "I'll be right back, you two ladies are going out tonight."
ย ย "Mom what are you doi-" Your mother cuts you off by throwing two dresses at you and Mikasa. "What are these for ?"
ย ย Your mother drops her eyelids. "Now (y/n) Aaliyah Ackerman. I just know yo ass isn't that dense. Get dressed and get ready and get the hell out of this apartment for once."
ย ย You widen your eyes and bring you mom into a tight hug, almost squeezing the life out of her. You let her go and grab Mikasa's hand dragging her to your room.

ย ย You and Mikasa had spent the past hour getting ready. You were putting the finishing touches onto your makeup as you hear your phone ring.

ย ย You glide your finger across your phone's screen to accept the call. While it was connecting, you prop your phone up onto your vanity so that you can finish your makeup.
ย ย "Yo! My bad little bro. I ain't pickup the first time I was busy getting re-. Woah, you look fiyaaa. Where you going? I would've thought ya pops said no,"your friend said in his thick New York accent. Connie was in his 2021 Dodge Challenger adjusting his black turtleneck that covered the tattoos that were all over his upper body.
ย ย "He did but momma said yes. So like I need you to come pick us up right now." You flashed him an innocent smile. Connie looked down at your face through the screen.
ย ย "And have your pops beat my ass ?! Yeah I'm not feeling the vibes at all."
ย ย Mikasa walks over to the phone and snatches it out of your hand. "Connie if you do not come to get us within the next five minutes, so help me God, I will literally shove my foot so far up your a-"
ย ย "AIGHT. Bro relax. I'll be there in a few but you two better leave from the fire escape. Text you when I'm outside." He picks up his phone and starts the car.
ย ย "Yay! I love you so so much. See you soon." You hang up the phone and look back at Mikasa laughing.
ย ย You two finished getting ready and took a few selfies together in your dresses.

ย ย Within five minutes, your phone screen lit up with a text from Connie saying he was outside. You text your mom telling her you're about to leave and grab your heels and purse. You and Mikasa begin to walk down the fire escape making as little noise as possible. You two finally plop down onto the cold concrete and walk over to Connie's car that almost blended in with the night's blackness. He rolls down his window.
ย ย "Aw man! Who let these sexy ladies out tonight," Connie laughs as he sticks out tongue. You hold Mikasa's hand above her head to give her a quick spin. You two do little jogs over to the car, you hopping into the passenger and Mikasa hopping into the back. As soon as you're all buckled in, Connie takes off into the night, with the windows down.
ย ย Connie turns to look at Mikasa and then back around to look at you. "Wait where ya'll masquerade masks at ?"
ย ย "Masquerade masks ? What are you talking about," Mikasa raises her eyebrow in confusion.
ย ย "The party we're going to is something like a masquerade ball."
ย ย "Oh shit, I didn't even realize it said that on the flyer. There's still time to get some right ?"
ย ย Connie lets out an obnoxious sigh while throwing his head back. "I mean I guess." He takes a sharp turn causing you and Mikasa to shift to the left side of the car. Connie chuckles to himself, which earned him a slap in the back on the head from Mikasa. After a few minutes, you three arrive at an old party, shop get the masks and start driving to the party.
ย ย Sounds of traffic mixed with the spanish music Connie was playing. You were looking out the window as you guys arrived at a stoplight. The car suddenly began to bounce up and down with the rhythm of the song.

You turn around to see your friend dancing, while rapping the lyrics of the song and Mikasa laughing. You take out your phone and began to record you two on snapchat dancing to the song, until the light turns red.
Tonight had potential.ย
