soo-ah couldn't believe that this was her new reality. she had always dreamed of becoming a singer. now that her dream was at her fingertips, it simply didn't feel real.

the large yg entertainment building intimated her, its mere size proving its importance. despite this, she took a deep breath and entered.

she was greeted by a strong perfume. the obnoxious scent overpowered all of her five senses and almost made her nauseous. she immediately began coughing up a lung.

"are you okay?" a small, female voice asked her. she straightened herself out, ignoring the blush of embarrassment on her cheeks. "ye-yeah. i'm okay, thank you."

"i'm lalisa. you can call me lisa, though. what's your name?" the other girl smiled warmly, somehow easing the nerves in the pit of her stomach.

"i'm soo-ah. nice to meet you, lisa!" the other girl's face lit up in recognition. "you must be the new trainee! i'm here to show you around," she explained with an excited expression. soo-ah tried her best to imitate it, happy to have met a nice friend already.

lisa brought her around the building, though skipping over many floors that were unimportant. "we're not famous idols, we don't go to those floors," she answered after soo-ah asked her about floors 16-20. she hoped she would be famous enough one day to use floors 16-20.

they made small talk and soo-ah learned that she was younger by five years. she also learnt that lisa was thai and had been learning korean. she was automatically impressed. lisa's appreciative smile made her heart swell.

finally, she was introduced to other trainees. lisa introduced her to the team of girls she was supposed to debut with: jennie, jisoo, rosรฉ, and miyeon. she was happy lisa was close to becoming an idol. through their short conversation, she knew lisa was fit for this job.

"you guys must be so excited!" soo-ah exclaimed. she looked for a positive reaction, which she received. she let out a quiet relieved sigh. she had always been quite lonely at home, therefore forming relationships with people in the outside world. whether it was school or practice, she intended to get everyone to like her. so far, it was working quite well.

she quickly learnt she was the youngest out of all the "pink punk" girls. for some reason, they had already taken her under their wing. she wasn't even supposed to debut with them, though she wasn't comparing for their caring attitudes. she was grateful, just surprised.

she spent most of the morning with lisa's debut team, before eventually bidding them goodbye to meet the trainees who got accepted in the same rounds in which she did.

"no. 26!" a male voice called out loudly. soo-ah stood up and made her way out of the waiting room and to the auditioning room.

she normally wasn't a nervous person, but facing a panel of people who decided if she was worthy of accomplishing her dreams or not got her quiteย  nervous.

"before you sing, tell us about yourself," one of the judges directed. she did so, stating basic facts about herself and her past. she watched with shaking eyes as the judges whispered to each other. would she get rejected just based off her facts?

"please, sing." and sing she did. she sung her 10 year-old heart out to alone by sistar. her voice wavered once due to her nerves, something she honestly expected.

she breathed in deeply as the song finished, almost choking on her air at the next command she was thrown. "dance, please."

before she could protest, "dynamite" by taio cruz blasted through speakers she didn't even know were in the room.

she flailed around dumbly, ignoring the criticizing glare every single one of the scouts gave her. it's not her fault she couldn't dance! she relied on her voice and that got her quite far, she didn't realize she needed to be good at dancing too.

eventually, the music cut out and she let out a sigh of relief.

"thank you for your time," one of them spoke. she nodded solemnly, thanking them as well. she knew she wouldn't be accepted. what was the point in even trying.

except she received an email three weeks later, asking her to audition once more. she did, and after one more round, was officially accepted as a yg trainee.

and here she was, entering the room with everyone else who went through the same grueling process as she did.

she found a seat next to the girl who looked the least
intimating, though nobody looked that scary. most looked nervous and excited.

while waiting for someone to come in, she made small talk with the girl next to her. "so, who showed you around, hyolin?" soo-ah asked her. hyolin sent her a confused glance.

"nobody showed me around, i wandered around until i found this room!" she explained with a laugh. the girl laughed alongย  but questioned why she was given special treatment. huh, weird.

eventually, a mentor entered the room. everyone got up to bow and soo-ah recognized him as one of the judges at her auditioning process. she wondered if he recognized her, though she would never even think of actually asking him.

"you trainees are the best of the best," he began. "i hand picked you because i know all of you have the most potential." hyolin and soo-ah excitedly made eye contact, the rest of the room breaking out into hushed whispered of joy. the room fell silent as he cleared his throat.

"however, that means you guys will be receiving the harshest training. you'll be working your asses off, day and night. you'll stay longer than all the other trainees." oh. she forced the deep frown into a smile at his words. "you'll probably be into a lineup in a few months. it'll all be worth it in the end. if you don't think you can handle this, i advise you leave now. no hard feelings."

she watched as maybe three out of the twenty-five trainees left. once the door closed behind the three, the mentor clapped, brining the attention towards him. "all of you, stand up. i'm teaching you your first choreography."

soo-ah felt the determination flow through her bones. a winning smile was plastered on her face even though all she had done was stand up and listen to the mentor. she wasn't worried. she knew she could do this.
