Chapter Two
Y/n was escorted to the flight field with her friends, the warm sun beating down on their skin. Rhiannon looked up just as a massive shape passed over them, casting a shadow that sent shivers down their spines. It was a deep navy blue she-dragon with golden eyes, its scales glinting like treasure in the sunlight. The beast turned in a half circle, its piercing gaze fixed on the three girls.
Violet whimpered a little, but pressed herself against Y/n's side. Y/n patted her friend's shoulder reassuringly. "Don't worry, we'll be fine," she said softly. Then, she looked up to meet the dragon's eye and felt a thrill run through her veins like liquid fire.
The dragon let out a low croon before lifting off again, its wings beating powerful and slow as it vanished into the sky.
"This way," Professor Markam instructed, his eyes scanning the horizon as the three girls followed him. "You three need to split up. The dragons can't choose you when you're all together." He handed each of them a water skin and a dagger, his expression stern but concerned. "Be safe, and come back in one piece, please. I don't want to lose my best student of the year."
Y/n snorted, a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes. "We'll try, sir," she said dryly. Then, with a nod to Rhiannon and Violet, she set off into the trees, relying on pure instinct to guide her through the dense foliage. The rustle of leaves beneath her feet was the only sound as she disappeared from view, leaving her friends to follow their own paths into the unknown.
Y/n's gaze snapped upward as the ground trembled beneath her feet, and she let out a startled yelp as a tail whipped the tree beside her, its club-like spiky tip mere inches from her face. She gasped, her heart racing like a wild animal in her chest. In front of her stood the largest dragon she had ever seen, even bigger than Vegar. Its scales glinted like polished obsidian, and its eyes burned with an inner fire that seemed to sear the air around it. The dragon's wingspan stretched wide enough to cast a shadow over the entire clearing, and Y/n felt tiny and insignificant in its presence.
"Little human", the dragon growled, its deep voice rumbling through the air as it turned its head to face her, golden eyes burning with an intensity that made Y/n's heart skip a beat. "My little human", it repeated, the possessiveness in its tone sending shivers down her spine.
Y/n swallowed hard, trying to find her voice. "W-who are you?" she stuttered, her eyes fixed on the dragon's razor-sharp teeth as it smiled.
The dragon chuckled, a low rumble that vibrated through the ground. "I am Tairneanach," it said, its voice dripping with ancient power, "but you may call me Tairn. And you, little one, are my human." It took a step closer, its massive snout dwarfing her as it loomed over her.
Y/n felt tiny and vulnerable beneath its gaze, but instead of fear, a thrill of excitement coursed through her veins. "You and I will do wonderful things together," Tairn whispered, its hot breath washing over her skin like a promise.
A faint whooshing sound filled the air, and Y/n looked up to see a flash of gold as a young female dragoness descended from the sky. Her tail whipped back and forth, its fluffy feathers at the end fluttering wildly as she landed with a gentle thud. "Dad!" she sang out, her voice like music, before finally turning her attention to Y/n.
"Ooh, you've found someone at last, good," she said with a bright smile, her eyes sparkling like diamonds. She hopped closer, her snout nudging Y/n gently as she examined her with curiosity. "I am Aandarna. It's finally nice to meet you, Princess," she said, her voice dripping with excitement.
Y/n felt a little overwhelmed by the sudden arrival of this new dragoness, but Aandarna's warm demeanor put her at ease. She reached out a hand hesitantly, and Aandarna nuzzled it gently, sending shivers down Y/n's spine. Tairn watched the exchange with a proud smile, his eyes shining with warmth as he gazed at his daughter.
"I see you've met," he said dryly, his deep voice rumbling through the air. "Aandarna can be a bit...exuberant at times." He chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he gazed at his daughter.
Aandarna rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "Dad," she said with a laugh. "You're such an old dragon sometimes."
Tairn snorted, a wry smile twisting his lips before he pressed his scaly head to Y/n's shoulder. "I am happy to have you with us, Y/n L/n, our human," he said, his deep voice rumbling through her entire body. "And don't worry about your friends; they will find their own dragons soon enough."
As Tairn's warm breath washed over her skin, Y/n felt a sense of belonging she'd never experienced before. It was as if she'd finally found a place where she fit, where she was meant to be. Aandarna nuzzled her gently, as if sensing her emotions, and Y/n wrapped her arms around the young dragoness's neck, feeling a deep connection to these creatures.
Tairn's words echoed in her mind - our human. It was a possessive phrase, one that sent shivers down her spine. But instead of fear or unease, she felt a sense of excitement and wonder. What did it mean to be the human of these magnificent creatures? What kind of adventures awaited her?
As she looked up at Tairn and Aandarna, Y/n knew that she was ready to find out. She was ready to leave her old life behind and embark on a journey with these dragons by her side.
