Chapter Forty-Eight

Brandon POV:

I heard my cellphone ringing and tried to sit up but a weight on my chest made me turn my head. Madeline was sleeping soundly, her head was resting on my chest while her one arm was draped over my abdomen.

My cellphone stopped ringing and I keep staring at angel sleeping beside me. I kissed her forehead and removed her hand from my abdomen then slowly I moved back letting her head fell back on the pillows.

She snuggled up in the pillows and I sighed thinking how cute she was looking while asleep. I got up from the bed and found my boxers laying on the floor at the end of the bed. Picking my boxers I put them on and took out my cellphone from my pants pocket.

I checked the cellphone and found three missed calls from Matt. I left the room and went outside in the living room then dialed Matt number and waited for him to pick up my call.

"Hi, Matt". I said.

"Hi, boss. I just wanted to let you know that Miss Laura Gonzalez wants to make sure you are coming". Matt said.

I swore under my breath.

"Matt it slipped my mind. I'll be there in half an hour. I won't be able to pick Laura from station. Can you pick her up? ". I said.

"I'm here with Miss Gonzalez lawyer but she refused to go anywhere until you'll show up". Matt said.

I massaged my head with my fingers.

"Can you hand her your cellphone?". I asked him.

"Sure, here". Matt said.

"Hey, Brandon". Laura said.

"Laura you need to go to the hospital with Matt and your lawyer. I will meet you at the hospital". I said.

"No, I'm not going anywhere. You said you'll pick me up. I want to be with the father of my baby when I'll hear his first heartbeat". Laura said.

"Laura first you need a proof to claim that this baby is mine. Go to the hospital with them and wait for me there. I'm coming". I said angrily and ended the call.

When I turned around I wasn't expecting to see Madeline standing there in cream color knee-length silk robe.

My voice got stuck in my throat when she took the step forward then another and stood in front of me.

"When were you planning to tell me everything?". She asked me staring straight in eyes with the look in her eyes that scream how disappointed she is at me.

"I was going to tell you everything". I said placing my hand on her arm but she took the step back from me.

"I'm standing right in front of you Brandon. Tell me everything". She said looking angry.

"Laura is twelve weeks pregnant and she claims it's my baby". I said.

Madeline face lost all the color and she gazed at me with hollow eyes.

"So do you believe that this baby is yours?". She asked me.

"Honestly, I don't think so that baby is mine. Laura slept around with other guys and I was careful too when we were in relationship. I'm taking her to the hospital today for paternity test". I said.

Madeline closed her eyes for few seconds then open them.

"If it is your baby and she is not lying what do you plan to do Brandon?". She asked me.

I took the deep breath and said "I will support her financially until the baby will born then I'll file the case for sole custody of my child". I told her the truth.

I was waiting for her to say something, anything to show what she was thinking.

But she turned around and went back to the room without saying anything. I followed her inside the room.

"Madeline please say something". I said.

She picked up my clothes from the floor and shoved them in my hands.

"Get ready Brandon. You're getting late". She said leaving the room.

I didn't know what to do to make her understand me.

Once again Laura has successfully ruined my relationship with Madeline.

I made my way inside the washroom and took the shower then get changed into my clothes.

When I came out from the room I found Madeline dressed in fitted nude color knee-length dress with another nerdy looking girl.

Madeline turned to look at me when the nerdy girl mumbled something.

"Oh Brandon meet Penny. My assistant". Madeline said and placed her hand on my arm.

I was confused and shocked.

"Hi". I mumbled looking at Madeline.

"Hi, Mr. Brandon Edwards". Penny said pushing back her glasses.

"She is going to take care of Bryan for us until we came back". Madeline said making me more confuse.

Penny girl gave us awkward smile.

"Bye Penny. Take care of yourself and make sure Bryan doesn't reconstruct this hotel suite". Madeline said to Penny and dragged me out of the suite to the elevator.

"Madeline what's going on?". I asked her.

"I'm coming hospital with you. Do you have any problem with that?". She said with the glare.

Do I have a problem? I'm f*cking lost here. I have no idea what's going inside her mind.

"No, I don't have any problem. Laura is going to be there". I reminded her.

"I know she is going to be there". Madeline said giving me sarcastic smile.

The elevator made a noise letting us know that we have reached to the lobby of the hotel.

We made our way out and valet service brought my car. When we were settled inside the car I drove in the direction of hospital.

Madeline stayed silent to the whole drive and even I didn't know what to say.

We arrived at the hospital fifteen minutes late.

I made my way to the doctors office and Madeline walked beside me.

Madeline looked striking in her nude dress and stilettos. Her blonde hair were left open in waves and resting on one shoulder.

I saw few young doctors eyeing her up and down but when I glared at them and placed a hand behind on her back they averted their eyes quickly.

When we reached to the doctors' office we found Laura's lawyer and Matt sitting on the chair.

Matt looked at me and stood up from the seat.

"Where is Laura?". I asked him.

"Laura still haven't come back from the washroom". He said.

I nodded my head. Matt glanced at Madeline curiously.

"Matt meet Madeline Russell, my girlfriend". I said.

Matt eyes widened little but he recovered from the shock quickly.

"Madeline Russell. Are you by any chance related to Mr.Gabriel Russell, the Italian business man?". He asked to Madeline.

She smiled at him and said "Yes he is my father".

"I am Matt. I'm so glad to meet you Miss Russell". Matt said.

"Likewise". Madeline said.

Laura came out from the washroom and glanced at Matt's back. Madeline face was hidden because of Matt's tall figure.

I cleared my throat giving indication to Matt that Laura is back.

Matt stepped on the left side and revealed Madeline face to Laura.

Laura gasped and halted in her steps.

She stared at Madeline with her mouth agape.

"Madeline". Laura whispered.

Madeline took the step forward and got close to Laura.

"Hi Laura". Madeline said with the wide smile.

I didn't know what Madeline was planning to do but the smile on her face looked scary, alarming or like saying D-O-N-T-M-E-S-S-W-I-T-H-M-E.

"Hi". Laura said nervously and glanced at me.

"So how you have been?". Madeline asked to her.

"I'm good. Brandon and I had a great time with each other in last six years. We have some misunderstandings that we'll resolve soon". Laura said twirling her hair around her finger.

Madeline laughed at her.

"Cheating on a boyfriend with his company's accountant to steal his money and ending up in a jail is hardly what I call great time and small misunderstandings". Madeline said.

Matt stifled his laugh and pretend to cough.

Laura opened her mouth to say something but Madeline shut her up.

"And Laura you must be wondering why am I here? So let me tell you that I am here to take back what was always mine. If you think for a second that with the help of this baby you can take your place back in Brandon's life then I'm very sorry to burst your bubble. Brandon has no place for you or any single woman in his life because I have taken my rightful place beside him". Madeline said stepping back and lacing her fingers with mine.

I was speechless.

My muddled brain thought that she will push me back again but she was standing here beside me.

I was so happy and I just wanted to kiss her right there.

"Oh really? As much as I know Brandon he wouldn't be able to stay away from me when he'll have a proof that it's his baby. He will definitely take care of me and treat me like a princess because he doesn't want to repeat the same mistake again". Laura said angrily.

Her taunt on Madeline being alone when she was pregnant made me angry. I was ready to lash at Laura when Madeline voice rang in the hospital.

"Laura dear there are many if in this case. I don't think so this baby belongs to Brandon and if it does, I wouldn't mind at all. Actually Brandon thinks he will take sole custody of the baby to provide him/her a good environment to grow up. Police cell is not a perfect place for any kid to grow up. And we know you are going to stay there for some time". Madeline said.

I was enjoying this side of Madeline.

The girl that used to beat boys in school thrice her size is back and overpowering my ex.

"If you're provoking Brandon to have sole custody then I think you've no right to be a mother". Laura spat.

This time Madeline face changed the color and looked red from anger that was flowing inside her. She made a fist of her hand and I thought she was going to punch Laura.

"And you have a right to call yourself a mother of this baby. The police found drugs in your system when you were ten weeks pregnant. By taking those drugs you were trying to kill your unborn child because you didn't want it. Then you decided to keep it because you wanted to use the baby to gain your way back in Brandon's life. It doesn't matter whose baby is this, I still think you're unfit to take care of this baby. Because no woman in her right mind will take such a harmful drug when she wants to keep the baby". Madeline said then turned around and left.

I was shocked after hearing Madeline words.

Did Laura know she was pregnant and still took the drugs?

"Laura did you know you were pregnant and still took the drugs?". I asked Laura.

Her silence was the answer of my question.

Madeline POV:

I stormed out of the hospital in anger before I couldn't stop myself from pulling that bítch I mean Laura's hair.

My phone vibrated in my small clutch and I pulled it out to see a call from Sebastian.

I picked it up and said "Hello Sebastian".

"Hi beautiful ex fiancee. How are you?". Sebastian said.

"Sebastian stop calling me that or I swear I'll beat the shit out of you". I said.

"WOW! Why are you so angry? Didn't get some last night? Is Brandon too busy in work". Sebastian said making me groan.

"You're testing my patience. I just had to endure the talk with Brandon's ex and here you are torturing me with your stupid sense of humor". I said slumping down on the bench in hospital garden.

"I'm sorry. Are you fine?". He asked me sobering up.

"No, I'm not fine. She is pregnant and we are here in the hospital for the paternity test. I just had a heated argument with her". I told Sebastian everything.

"I don't know what to say". Sebastian said sounding nervous and that made me laugh.

"Sebastian you're such dork. You must have something to tell me that's why you called". I said.

He laughed and said "After hearing your sob story I forgot why I called you?".

"Tell me Sebastian what it is?". I asked him.

"I've found where is Adrian?". Sebastian said and I sucked in a large breath.

"Where is he?". I asked him.

"Somewhere in Atlanta getting wasted every day in clubs". Sebastian said.

"Will you take me to him?". I asked Sebastian.

"How can I say no to you. You'll murder me in my sleep". Sebastian said with the laugh.

I laughed as well but few tears rolled down.

"Come to Boston and we'll go together from here". I suggested.

"Okay. I'll be there tonight". He said.

We bid a good bye and I went back inside the hospital.

Brandon wasn't in the sight.

I looked around to see Matt standing.

"Where is Brandon?". I asked.

"He is here". Matt said pointing at the Brandon who was coming out from the room.

"We both have given the samples". Brandon said looking at Matt.

"Okay you can leave I'll take Miss Gonzalez back to the police station". Matt said.

"Thanks. We are leaving". Brandon said and took the quick glance at me.

He started to walk towards the exit of the hospital and I followed him out.

We settled inside the car and after the fifteen minutes drive Brandon stopped the car.

"I'm sorry Madeline for everything. I am really sorry". Brandon said.

I felt like breaking from inside.

His voice always melts my anger

"Brandon it's fine. I just. I can't digest the possibility of Laura carrying your son/daughter". I said.

"The results will come out after two days". Brandon said.

I nodded my headed.

"What are you thinking about us?". Brandon asked.

"Nothing. I feel numb Brandon. I don't know what you want me to say to make you feel alright". I said feeling so broken.

"I'm scared of losing you again. My son just got his father back and he'll be broken if you'll stop loving him. I'm scared that I might not be able to share you with any other child that is not ours. I may sound selfish but I really don't want that baby to be yours. Brayn don't deserve all this. My son needs you, his father and he deserve your love, your attention". I said.

Brandon cupped my face between his hands and said "Madeline I don't want you to feel scared. I'll never leave you alone again. I'll never let my son feel the emptiness of father in his life. I promise you".

"Brandon are you sure that the results will not affect our lives?". I asked him.

"I know for the fact that the results will affect our lives. But I don't know in what way? Good or bad?". Brandon said placing his hand above mine.

"I hope the results won't ruin our relationship". I mumbled.

"Nothing can ruin us again". He said placing a deep sensual kiss on my lips.

"Don't you think it's time for Bryan to meet his grandparents from his father's side?". Brandon said with the grin.

"I think it's a great time". I replied grinning myself.
