joha's pov.
november 25. it was wooyoung's big birthday! after school that day, wooyoung's group members and i decorated wooyoung's house to celebrate. however, i couldn't shake off the feeling that i was missing my other friend nari's birthday for wooyoung's. i guess i am pretty whipped.
he'd be home any moment.
then the door creaked open after a series of clanking metal.
"happy birthday!"
wooyoung looked up, startled, and held a hand to his heart. he began to laugh and shout, "hey! what the heck! thank you guys!"
immediately, he came to me to hug me first, then all of his friends.
"hey, where's san?" wooyoung asked, scratching his head.
yunho shrugged, "he has a crush on this girl, and it's her birthday too."
wooyoung nodded and laughed, "don't blame him. now let's eat!"
everyone migrated to the long table of food. there were all sorts of meats, vegetables, deserts, noodles, snacks, fruits, you name it. i loaded up my plate.
wooyoung nudged my arm as he ate a chicken wing ironically, "yah, fattie. don't eat all the food."
i scrunched my face up, "quit bullying me, let a girl eat!"
he laughed and nodded, "i was kidding. i like chubby girls anyways"
i scoffed as i watched wooyoung walk to a table and start eating. knowing that he likes chubby girls, i made sure to put an extra pizza slice on my plate ashamedly.

we ate, played games, talked, and sang karaoke for a long, long time that night. at about midnight, only then did we realize it was so late; soon after, everyone decided to go home.
i searched for uber's at this time of night, but realized there was a lack in this part of town. wooyoung sighed as he sat next to me on the couch.
"you're the last one. guessing you want to spend the night?" he put his toned arm around me, and i instantly pushes him off.
"oh be quiet, there's just no uber's around."
he raised his eyebrow and looked at my phone along with me. "what? that sucks. i can just walk you home then."
"jung wooyoung." i sternly said. "it's midnight and i live miles away. you don't have to do that - especially on your birthday."
ignoring me, wooyoung grabbed his coat and stood up to put his shoes on. "i'm coming whether you like it or not."
wooyoung and i walked alongside each other through the empty, pitch black streets. it was low key scary, so i walked close to him with a flashlight.
"this is the best birthday present i've ever gotten." he said quietly.
"huh?"
"being best friends with the prettiest girl in school and walking her home from my house. you're even wearing my hoodie." he chuckled.
i kept my eyes on my feet, "quit playing, wooyoung."
"i'm not."
"whatever," i sighed sadly.
what seemed like years later, wooyoung and i made it to my house safely. i stood in front of my mailbox awkwardly before saying, "thanks."
"joha." he said tersely.
"what?"
"... nevermind. i'll see you tomorrow." he hesitated and smiled. i nodded and went into my house, wondering what he was going to say.
