𝓣he gentle light coming through the windows beat on Katherine's pajama-covered shoulder. The girl opened her eyes slightly and immediately closed them again, not being used to the light that had just blinded her. She yawned and stretched, she had finally had a good sleep after a long time. She got out of bed, rubbing her eyes, still groggy from the sleep she had. She looked around for the suitcase she had brought to Derek's loft the night before, she grabbed a t-shirt and a pair of jeans, she would sort everything out once she got back from school.
Kat opened the door walking towards the bathroom with the intention of taking a shower. She closed the bathroom door behind her and locked it, she looked around inspecting the bathroom, "nice," she noted as she placed the clothes on the toilet.
"Morning'," the blonde's voice flooded the room as she entered, the raven-haired boy looked up from the stove, looking at his friend who was rubbing a towel in her hair trying to dry them. "'Morning Katy, did you sleep well?" the werewolf asked with a smile, he hadn't smiled like that in a long time, the presence of the witch did him more than good.
"Well, I've finally slept in a bed who's not from the Middle Ages, it felt like I'm in heaven," she exclaimed as she approached the table with the soft canvas over her shoulders. "I made you breakfast, I hope pancakes are still your favorite," the raven-haired replied, if it were objectively possible the girl's eyes would now have taken the shape of a heart. "From your expression I take it as a yes," the werewolf chuckled.
"They will always be my favorite," she replied as she pulled a chair out to sit. Derek smiled again as he placed a plate full of pancakes in front of her, "I'm glad."
"Where did you run off to last night?" the blonde asked as she popped a whole pancake into her mouth, Derek sighed placing the spatula on the granite, "someone killed my Beta's father and the hunters want to kill us all," he explained, the witch widened her eyes in utter shock, "fuck. . . What are you going to do?"
Derek shook his head, "we'll only find out by living." Katherine gave him a displeased look, "I could set fire to all the hunters," she proposed ironically but with a hint of seriousness in her voice, she knew how much the hunters gave the werewolves a hard time, and if they died in a tragic accident she wouldn't mind. "That wouldn't be a bad idea," the Alpha retorted, grimacing.
"Goodmorning," the blonde jumped when someone spoke from the stairs, she had never heard this voice before but she sensed the supernatural, it was too loud she had to understand that it couldn't just be Derek giving off that power. As she turned towards the voice, time almost stopped as her eyes landed on a skinny figure, a very tall boy with blue eyes and brown curls was staring at her curiously.
"Kat this is my Beta Isaac, Isaac this is Katherine, a childhood friend and a very powerful witch," Derek said interrupting the moment that had been created. The blonde raised a hand greeting the boy who smiled at her, she wasn't sure how much time they spent looking at each other but she was almost enchanted by those beautiful blue wells.
"It's late, you have to go to school," Derek said getting up interrupting their exchange of glances again, the two glared at him and snorted. "Yeah, but I need to dry my hair first," the witch said, stuffing a whole pancake into her mouth, "sicco," she said the spell, heat, not fire, came out of her hand, but in a short time her hair was completely dry. "Wow," Isaac exclaimed with his mouth wide open. Katherine smiled, "I'll show you some more," she said before disappearing upstairs to get her backpack..
"Can I come and see you?" Kat asked, looking at Isaac as they walked side by side, "mh?" the Beta asked, too wrapped up in his thoughts, the blonde could sense that something was wrong, "at Lacrosse selections. . . or practice, whatever it is."
"I'd love to," he smiled softly, scratching the back of his neck.
"I feel that there's something wrong. . . A penny for your thoughts?" the witch asked interested, the boy sighed, passing a hand on the back of his neck, "it's all a mess. . . I can't control the anger and claws. . . Then," he lowered his gaze so as not to show his eyes clouded with tears, "I killed my father, and I don't even remember how it happened."
Kat smiled sweetly, "oh Isaac," she sighed as she approached him, "Derek said it wasn't you. . . And I believe Derek, plus if you don't even remember how it happened, that's a reason to believe Derek."
Kat smiled sweetly, "oh Isaac," she sighed as she approached him, "Derek said it wasn't your fault. . . I believe Derek, and if you don't even remember how it happened, is another reason to believe Derek."
"I don't know exactly what happened that night but I know I transformed and I was very . . . Very angry with him, and then nothing. . . The only thing i know is that he's dead," the beautiful smile he had shown her when they were at Derek's loft had been replaced by a guilty expression, she wanted to do something for him but she couldn't, she wasn't able to read minds and dig into memories.
"I think a hug can be good," the blonde exclaimed, opening her arms wide, almost unsure whether he would return the hug or not. After all, they had known each other for less than an hour, they were strangers. Isaac didn't even seem to think about it, he lowered himself to her height and surrounded her with his arms, she had received hugs, mostly from her grandmother — hers were suffocating but this, had something different. It was as if they both desperately needed it. Strangers or not.
"Sorry. . . I wet your shirt," Isaac spoke first, chuckling as he pulled away from the hug, the boy scratched the back of his neck looking at the slightly wet black shirt on her shoulder, he was embarrassed.
"Don't worry, it will dry," Katherine replied smiling, "are you feeling better?" she asked as he started walking again. Isaac nodded, "I needed that . . . Thank you for listening," he smiled at her, a smile full of gratitude, she was happy to see that sweet smile again.
"That's what friends are for," she replied, clutching the shoulder strap of her backpack. She had never had many friends, after the accident everything had gone downhill for her and her friend count had definitely decreased.
As Katherine reached the lacrosse field, after two boring hours of math, she noticed two boys waving their hands in her direction, Stiles and Scott. The blonde smiled as she approached them while the coach was talking to other boys on the team.
"Did you come to see us?" Stiles asked as he put an arm on Scott's shoulder, the witch could feel the brown-haired boy was bigging himself. "Not really," she looked away from him looking for her new friend.
Isaac, however, was already looking at her, but when hen caught in the act he immediately looked elsewhere, she smiled slightly and returned giving all her attention to the two boys.
"You bunch of idiots come here!" the coach shouted, whistling at the athletes who were not next to him.
Katherine raised her eyebrows in a frown, "guess he's calling you guys," she chuckled, Scott and Stiles nodded a goodbye as they walked away. She turned and sat down in the stands next to a girl with ginger hair who smiled widely at her, taken aback she smiled uncertainly.
"Is he always like this?" she asked the girl, pointing at the coach. She wasn't sure where she had gotten the courage to start a conversation with a stranger. The girl turned to her, "he's chill than usual," she replied, raising her eyebrows. Kat opened her mouth slightly, "seriously?" she asked holding back a laugh, that man was a particular person, she nodded, giggling too.
"My grandmother runs faster than you, and she's dead!"
The two girls looked at each other and burst out laughing, "I'm Alexis, by the way," the ginger held out her hand. "Katherine," the witch replied, squeezing her.
"Oh-oh," Alexis exclaimed attracting Kat's attention, the witch turned around noticing that the sheriff with two police officers following him were approaching the field. "What's going on?"
Kat ran down the bleachers reaching Stiles who was not far from Isaac and Scott.
"Mr. Lahey, can you come for a moment?" the sheriff took off his black glasses, glancing at all the boys who were watching the scene. Isaac nodded following them with the coach, they went near the stands.
"Why do they want talk to him?" Kat asked, keeping her gaze fixed on Isaac. "His father is dead. . . Are they thinking of a murder?" Scott, who had joined them, surmised looking at Stiles for an answer, who was observing the small group talking.
"Oh shit, Isaac," Kat whispered shaking her head, terrified that he was being taken away. She wasn't paying much attention to the two boys talking, she just watched her new friend slowly walk away. The boy turned around looking at her, she couldn't believe they arrested him. . . He's innocent, he had to be.
Her first thought was to call Derek, she was taking out her phone the moment Scott uttered a single sentence that made her blood freeze in her veins. Tonight there will be a full moon. It's not going well at all, Isaac can't control himself.
"We have to get him out of prison," she stated, looking at them, waiting for an answer or some reaction. In the past years she had only used magic for personal purposes that involved simple things like drying her hair or fixing something, but if it was needed to get Isaac out of prison she was determined to use magic at the fullest.
During chemistry class Kat couldn't do anything but think about Isaac and what he was going through with the sheriff and the principal, she had immediately called Derek but he hadn't told her much. He never told much. She looked away from the window when she heard someone whispering, she turned to Scott who was trying to get her attention non-stop.
"What?" she asked in a very low voice.
The wolf pointed with his head to the floor, out of the corner of her eye the girl noticed a crumpled up piece of paper, Kat frowned as she threw a pen on the floor, so as she bent down to pick it up she also picked up the note. The witch looked furtively at Harris before opening it so as not to get caught, he was writing on the blackboard, she opened the note narrowing her gaze due to the bad handwriting.
ᗩSK TO GO TO Tᕼᕮ ᗷᗩTᕼᖇOOᗰ ᗩᖴTᕮᖇ ᗯᕮ ᒪᕮᗩᐯᕮ
The witch turned back to the two and nodded, curious to know what they would invent to get out of class. Stiles and Scott gave each other a knowing look before the werewolf threw a crumpled ball of paper at Harris who was still busy writing on the board.
The man turned around with a furious look on his face, "who the hell did this?" he asked. The two best friends pointed at each other making their classmates giggle. "Go to the principal immediately!" Harris spelled out the words. The two grabbed their things and slipped out of class.
"I was saying, everyone turn to page seventy-three."
Kat waited a few seconds before raising her hand, "can I go to the bathroom?" she asked once she had caught the man's attention. Harris sighed still pissed off, "couldn't you have gone earlier?" he asked annoyed as he placed a hand on the desk.
"I didn't need to go before," she exclaimed, making his classmates laugh. The professor rolled his eyes, sighing, "go ahead," he replied exasperatedly, continuing to speak. The witch breathed a sigh of relief as she grabbed her backpack, "thank you," she smiled falsely as she walked out of the classroom.
There couldn't be a more unpleasant and annoying professor than him. However there was something strange about that man, which didn't completely convince her, she was still suspicious of the fact that when he was present in the classroom he seemed strange. To confirm the fact, she didn't felt nothing strange right now.
"So, what happened?" she asked, sitting next to the two who were overhear. "Jackson always heard Mr. Lahey beign abusive, but he never said anything," Scott explained looking at the blonde who sighed pissed off, she had no idea who this Jackson was, but how could someone stay silent in the face of these vile things?
Kat turned around hearing the door being unlocked and then opened, the witch turned around finding herself in front of Sheriff Stilinski followed by one of his colleagues. The man looked at his son, he was pretending to read a magazine to cover his face, Kat looked at the sheriff, sighing.
"Hi, Scott," the man said, smiling slightly, although the exasperation was clearly audible in his voice.
"Hi," the wolf replied, waving his hand. Noah Stilinski tried to say something to his son but shook his head with a sigh, he waved to the witch before leaving, followed by his colleague.
Stiles breathed a sigh of relief once he heard his father walk away, the witch shivered at the sight of the man who had just come out of the principal's office, she had never seen that man in person before, she had seen him in the recurring nightmares she was having.
"Guys, come in."
Kat glanced at the two who looked shocked, after less than two weeks of returning to Beacon Hills the confirmation that it wasn't how she left had hit her out of the blue. Now the hunters became principal. Beacon Hills was no longer the safe city she remembered.
"Katherine!" the witch turned around hearing someone shout her name, when she turned she found herself in front of the girl she had met during the lacrosse practice a few hours earlier. "You left them in the chemistry room and I thought I'd bring them to you," she said, holding out a book and notebook under her arm.
The witch smiled as she grabbed her things, "you're an angel, I'm serious," she exclaimed as she grabbed her notes. The girl smiled, blushing slightly, taking on the same shade of red as her hair, "of course, for so little," she replied embarrassed. The two girls whirled around hearing someone running towards them.
"Hi Scott," the girl said, waving at the wolf who stopped to look at the two for a few seconds. "Hi Lex, Katherine, sorry I'm in a hurry," he waved to both of them before running towards the exit. The witch watched Scott get further and further away, she had to follow him, "I'm really sorry, but I really have to go," she said regretfully, feeling guilty for having to leave her like this, but she had to figure out how to help Isaac.
"Oh, don't worry, I'll see you tomorrow," Alexis gave a soothing smile to the witch who ran off.
"Scott, wait for me!" Katherine shouted, stretching her pace to try to catch up with the wolf, it was definitely too fast for her pace, damned supernatural genes. "What's the plan?" she asked as she opened the exit door. "I'll call a lawyer, he'll get him out before the Full Moon," he replied calmly.
Katherine narrowed her eyes in irritation, she had run so long for nothing, "a lawyer? Did you understand that I'm a witch?" she looked at him bewildered. She would have been able to get him out quicker.
The boy was about to reply when a black Camaro stopped in front of the two. Scott looked at Katherine for a few seconds recognizing the car, the window lowered slowly revealing Derek's serious face. "Get in," he ordered, looking at them.
The blonde didn't have to be told twice, she went down the stairs and ran to open the car door. "I'm not coming," Scott immediately replied glaring at Derek, the witch rolled her eyes as she sat as much as she could in the back seat. "Do you think your great idea of calling a lawyer will work?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Scott didn't reply.
"If they find out what Isaac has in his house, a lawyer won't be able to get him out," Derek exclaimed, looking first at the witch and then at the Beta, Kat wondered what could be so terrible in the house, she couldn't get any concrete idea, the variations there were too many.
These words, however, convinced Scott to get into the car.
Thank God that guy has sake of sense, if she were to be honest the first impression he and his friend Stiles gave her wasn't exactly good. Initially she thought they were maniacs from the way they stared at her in class and this didn't give her much confidence, but then they turned out to be firendly and her opinion was starting to become positive, even if they didn't stand out for their intelligence.
"We're not going to break down that door, are we?" Scott asked, looking at the closed door of the Lahey house from afar. From afar that small brick house seemed to exude terrible stories, compared to the house located in front, it was dark and gloomy. Kat hypothesized that that villa was the home of the Jackson who had witnessed the violence.
"We won't come in through the door," Derek replied, ducking slightly so as not to be seen, "come," he exclaimed, walking towards the back of the house. The witch also reached down, for the Alpha. Scott copied their gesture, looking around, "are we going in there? But it's closed!" the Beta commented, pointing to the window.
Kat raised her eyebrows, perhaps the boy hadn't yet understood that he could do almost anything with magic, but in the end she had seen him do magic once or twice.
Kat moved Scott slightly so she was facing the window, she brought two hands in front of her face closing her eyes to concentrate, "motus," she whispered making a move with her hands, the bottom of the window slowly raised. Scott opened his mouth in fascination, "amazing," he exclaimed making her smile with satisfaction, he urged Derek to go in first.
"A light, please?" Derek asked kindly, looking at the witch. Kat nodded, raising a hand, "lumos," a beam of light came out from her fingers that have illuminated a good part of the house, so that the three could walk calmly around the house looking for something that not even the witch knew what it was.
"If it wasn't Isaac then who was?" Scott asked, looking around. "We don't know," the Alpha replied motioning for Kat to shine a light on a spot in the house.
"So how do you know he's not lying?" the Beta continued to ask. "Because I trust my senses, they're letting me know," Derek replied, continuing to look around, "here we are," he exclaimed suddenly, stopping in front of a closed door, probably leading to the basement. "If you want to learn to use your senses, this is the place to learn," he said as he opened the door and let Scott through.
"What's down there?" he asked, standing in front of the stairs, his voice exuding no fear, only curiosity. "The motive," Derek replied, "turn off the light," he ordered the witch who nodded doing as she was told. Scott started to go down the stairs, without light this place was very scary to her, on top of that it gave off bad radiation, as if something terrible had happened down there.
She was sure of it now.
"Let's go Katy," The witch's eyes widened as Derek began to step down the stairs. She took a deep breath before stepping onto the first step. Something moved next to her, the witch opened her eyes wide and jumped in fear while trying to hold back a scream, she quickly went down the steps that separated her from Derek and clung to his muscular arm, looking around for some monstrous being─commonly called rats.
"Can we have some light?" Derek asked her kindly, chuckling at how she looked around terrified, she nodded relived lightning the room.
"What is it?" Scott asked, looking at the refrigerator. The witch frowned, placing a hand on the scratch marks. Suddenly, a wave of pain and suffering took over her body.
"Please, let me out!" screams of terror drowned out the sound of kicks being thrown at the closed refrigerator top wall, "Dad, please."
"Katherine, Katy what's wrong?" Derek shook the girl worriedly who looked around scared and confused, now back to normal. "It was terrible," she exclaimed, breathing heavily, a shiver of terror running down her spine, the hairs on her arms standing up.
"Are you okay? What happened?" Derek asked worriedly, placing a hand on her cheek, his free hand inspecting her face.
"I'm fine. . . I don't know what happened but I hope it never happens again."
"Your eyes," Scott stammered wordlessly. "What?" the witch asked, frowning. She had managed to regain control of her breathing. But she was still very shaken. "They were . . . white."
The girl's mouth dropped open slightly. White? How was that possible? She couldn't understand.
"You're bleeding."
Kat raised her eyebrows, touching her nose, there was a smear of blood on her finger. . . What the hell is happening? She had never had anything like this happen to her before, she couldn't think of a logical explanation. "I — I'll wait for you outside," she said walking away shocked, it was like a vision or something that had happened before . . . But it wasn't hers.
"We have to bypass security," Stiles exclaimed as he watched the woman inside the station sorting out some things. "I'll distract her, you guys come in," Derek was about to open the door, when the boy with the shaved head stopped him, "what's the plan?"
"I'll distract her," the Alpha repeated, looking between the witch and Stiles, "and I'll get Isaac out of the cell," the blonde continued, throwing her head forward while holding on to the seats with her hands. "Are you sure?" Derek asked her, she nodded smiling slightly at him, she wasn't fully recovered yet, but she could do this. She had to.
"Let's go!" the adult said opening the door, everyone got out of the car in silence, Kat with a little more difficulty since Stiles hadn't pulled her seat forward.
"Oh no," Stiles whispered worriedly. "What's going on?" Kat whispered as she moved closer to him, "wait for me here," she ordered. The witch nodded not understanding what was happening, only one thing she had understood, and it was not a surprise: Derek did not know how to flirt with girls.
She didn't know what was happening, but she didn't have a good feeling. As soon as she heard a roar she ran towards the noise, the scene that presented itself before her could be misunderstood, to outside eyes. An officer was lying on the ground unconscious, Derek was standing in front of Stiles and he in turn was on the ground next to Isaac who was lying scared on the ground.
"Well, this wasn't the plan!"
