Extremely messed up, for being only sixteen she had been through a lot, but despite everything she had almost always managed to be herself. Without ever letting the weight of life get her down. But life is almost always a bitch because Katherine carried a great burden that weighed inside her.

She thought she was a murderess after she set fire to her house one night because she couldn't control her powers. The truth is, it was an accident, and it wasn't her fault. But she hadn't understood this yet. In her old school the gossip had spread that the house had burned down, but it had been spread in the wrong way and Katherine had been seen as the one who set the fire to murder her family because she hated her parents. But this wasn't true at all.

At just ten years old she had blood on her hands. She had recently started to manifest her powers. And slowly she was making progress thanks to the help of her mother Camille, but one day everything went tragically wrong. One evening Katherine and her parents had a heated discussion about the recent move they faced, since she was four years old she had lived in Beacon Hills, but one day Camille decided to move back to Chicago, Illinois, where the girl was born. The young witch was angry, she had never wanted to return to this city because she had to leave Derek Hale, her childhood best friend. So Katherine, feeling the power overcome the anger that had made its way through her veins, was no longer able to control her powers. And the most terrifying thing that could happen happened.

Without her saying or doing anything she heard a crackling noise followed by a strange heat spreading through the corridor of their house. When she realized what was actually happening it was too late, as soon as she poked her head out the door of her room she saw what she had done, the fire had now burned down a good part of the house. She could hear her parents screaming at her to get to safety, they already knew there was no hope for them. The smoke was getting into her lungs, making her cough. She desperately screamed her parents' names apologizing every three sentences, she knew it was her fault.

With tears in her eyes she went down the stairs which were still intact, the fire was about to aggressively reach the lower floor of the house. She had decided to do as her parents were yelling at her, when she reached the bottom of the stairs she almost felt the weight of the world falling on her ━ the only noise that could be heard from upstairs was the crackling of the fire, no one said a word. They were dead. Katherine sank to the ground, feeling her breath run out of her. She closed her eyes, unable to see anything anymore because of the smoke, it was the only thing she could think about.

When she woke up the next day she didn't remember anything of what had happened, she was very surprised when a doctor told her how lucky she was to be alive, she slowly managed to reconnect all the events. When she saw her sweet grandmother enter her hospital room she burst into tears, she told her everything in great detail, convinced that at the end of her speech she would hate her guts for what she had done to her daughter. But it didn't happen, Morgana smiled, gently caressing her head, she had reassured her that everything would be fine, that everything would be resolved.

So the young witch moved again, this time to New Orleans. There Katherine not only found friends, but she found people like her, people who had done something bad when they lost control of their powers. People like Dorotea Soffion who had helped her learn to control her power. She had found a coven, a group of witches who lived in the French Quarter of New Orleans, whose leader was Morgana Rosseau. Katherine was happy again.

But for Katherine, the happiness didn't last long. She had six years of peace before having to face another tragedy, the death of her grandmother Morgana, the only pillar she had left of her family. Or rather, her direct family. She had an aunt and an uncle, and unfortunately for her, a cousin, Gwendolyn Rosseau. The most hateful person in Katherine's very personal opinion, every time her aunt and uncle came to visit, her cousin found every little excuse to make Katherine look bad in everyone's eyes, then copied and finally boasted that she was special because she was a siphon.

When she was permanently orphaned, she decided that she would rather live under a bridge than go and live at the Rosseau house. And so she did, all her life she had always had one thing in her head: Derek Hale. Every year that passed she kept wondering how he was, if he still lived in Beacon Hills, but above all if he was still alive. She knew perfectly well about the existence of hunters, she knew that they spent their lives killing supernatural people. So she decided to move to the place she once called home and try to answer her questions about the werewolf.

Well, she found him, but she found something even bigger in Beacon Hills. Because that city had changed over time, it was no longer as she remembered it. Above all, she didn't remember there being a disgusting shapeshifter who went around killing specific people.
