"Que le diable t'emporte, Sirius!" Camille angrily said when she got back to her room, surprising Lily Evans, who was patiently awaiting for her return. The girl growled and closed back the door, taking a seat on the edge of her bed and crossing her arms in frustration.
"I'm not sure what you said, but it didn't sound flattering and I'm sure he deserved it," Lily said, now offering her full attention to the girl who kept puffing her cheeks out every five seconds or so. "What happened? What did he do? Merlin, I left for half an hour and this happens!"
"Lily, do you have any idea who Kendra Dovetail is?" Camille asked, clearly distressed. That's all she could think about on her way back to Hogwarts, the unknown girl's name ringed out in her head until the moment she reached her dorm room.
Lily blinked in confusion. "I do, yes, but what does she have to do with this?" she asked, then offered Camille the explanation she asked for. "She's a seventh year Ravenclaw."
"And is she, by any chance, Sirius Black's girlfriend?" Right after the question left her lips, Camille had a lump in her throat and a sinking feeling in her stomach, frightened by the answer she might hear from her friend.
"His girlfriend?" Lily repeated. "No, silly! Where did you hear that? Don't tell me she started spreading rumors that she's dating Black."
When Lily cleared this up, Camille let out a relieved sigh and closed her eyes, then let herself fall until her back hit the soft mattress of her bed. Then, she covered her face with both of her hands, groaning in frustration. "Merde, what did I do.."
"Do you want to talk about this?" Lily asked, curiously tilting her head to one side, watching Camille as she started to calm down little by little, until she wasn't looking furious anymore.
"He showed up a little after you left," Camille said, letting her hands fall next to her body as she began to explain everything that happened. "Not much actually happened, but then Myles Hemlock mentioned Kendra Dovetail and it made me really mad to think thatโ" Camille stopped herself from finishing her sentence and took a deep breath.
But Lily finished it for her.
"To think that she's his new girlfriend?" the girl innocently asked, to which Camille nodded. Lily rose from her bed and sat next to the blonde girl instead, placing a hand over hers as a way to let her know that she was here for her, and that she was listening.
"Yes," Camille admitted. "I got so mad that I wanted to leave, but Sirius didn't want to let me go at first, and he offered to walk me back to Hogwartsโwell, more like begged me to allow him to do soโbut I wasn't thinking clearly, so I told him to go walk Kendra Dovetail. Now he must think I'm such a fool!"
"Don't be so hard on yourself, Camille. There was no way you could have known that!" Lily exclaimed. "As far as I know, Sirius usually keeps his private matters, well.. private. There are a lot of rumors about his love life, but all of them are started by the girls he rejected or the girls he dumped. Kendra, I think she fancies him, but then again, so does at least half of the female population at Hogwarts."
"Is he really.. that popular? With the girls?" Even though she already knew the answer to this question, she still felt the need to ask.
When Lily nodded, Camille couldn't help but feel like she was just another notch on his belt. How foolish of her to think that she was something special to him. That was nothing but stupid wishful thinking, and she knew that very well, but she still couldn't get herself to stop hoping that she actually meant something to him. Just like he meant something to her.
"Camille, would you mind if I asked what happened? Between you and Sirius?" Lily shyly asked, as if she was testing the waters with her. She didn't want to come off as nosey or intrusive, but she didn't know how to help when she was clueless about what the problem really was. "But it's alright if you don't want to tell me, I promise!"
Camille sighed.
"It's fine, Lily," she reassured her before she began to tell her everything about her summer love. "It's actually stupid, now that I think about itโI should have known it was too good to feel true." She scoffed. "I met Sirius this summer on a beach near London. He seemed really lonely, and I usually don't go and talk to strangers like that, but I didn't think I'd see him again, so I went to talk to him. I found out he was just moving in his new flat, which was, coincidentally, on the other end of the street I was staying on!"
"Wait, he moved out? I didn't know that," said Lily.
"He said he's been staying at his best friend's house, but that he felt the need to have his own place and be independent, so he moved out. And, well, we had a lovely day at the beach and then he walked me home and next morning, he was waiting for me downstairs with a picnic basket. We started to spend time together every day and.." Camille made a small pause. "I fell in love with him." She let out a small laugh at the memory. "Before I knew it, I was madly, hopelessly in love with Sirius Black. And I thought he felt the same about me. I didn't want the summer to end, because I knew I would have to return to France and I would lose him. But then, one day, my grandmother told me it's better for me to stay in London and my Hogwarts letter arrived shortly after that. I ran to his place that morning to tell him about it, because I was so foolishly happy that my summer love didn't have to end so soon, but he was.. gone. He just packed his bags and left, he didn't even leave a note behind. And suddenly, I wasn't so happy and looking forward to going to Hogwarts anymore."
"Ahh, Sirius Black, you arrogant idiot!" Lily groaned after she listened to Camille's story, then squeezed her hand three times. "I don't know if this is going to make you feel better, but I don't think Sirius saw you as something temporary, Camille. I actually think you were right when you said he felt something for you."
Camille furrowed her eyebrows upon hearing what her friend said. "What makes you say that, Lily?"
"You know, even though he never put the girls he slept with on display, I ran into him a couple of times. And I don't recall ever seeing the same girl next to him on different days," she explained. "It was always a one-time thing, they would come and go. That's why most of the Gryffindorsโwell, actually, it's probably just me and the rest of the male Gryffindorsโdon't pay too much attention to Sirius' affairs. But he came back for you, Camille. For a whole summer. And there was the thing that happened at the Start-of-Term Feastโ"
"Hm?" Camille hummed in curiosity. "You mean him spilling out his drink?"
Lily nodded. "Yes, that, and he was genuinely shocked to see you. He runs into these girls almost daily, but you don't see him shocked every single second, now do you?" she pointed out. "Look, what he did, it was seriously wrong and you have every right to be mad about it. I would be too! But I don't think you should consider yourself as just another name on Sirius Black's long list of conquests. I think you're more than that, I think you don't even belong on that list."
"But how did youโ"
"It was written all over your face, Camille. When you asked me about Kendra Dovetail, I could see that you were worried and my best guess was that you were concerned that he could have already moved on."
Camille's cheeks started to heat up a little when Lily voiced her exact thoughts. "Is it that obvious?" she asked in a low voice, letting out a sigh.
"It's not." Lily was quick to shake her head and dismiss the idea. "I'm just really attentive when it comes to details, you know? But don't worry, I won't tell a single soul about this. I promise."
"How did we lose track of time so badly?" Camille asked, running with Lily down the hallways, hurrying to make it in time to the Potions Class.
"I don't know, but you don't want to be late to Slughorn's class, trust me!" said Lily, taking a sudden left. "This way! Follow me!"
The two Gryffindors eventually reached the classroom before Professor Slughorn did, but as they were trying to find some empty seats, Lily heard someone calling her name from behind. Naturally, she turned around, only to roll her eyes when she caught sight of who was trying to get her attention.
"Psst! Evans!"
"What do you want, Potter?" she asked, still panting.
"Sit with me," he said, gesturing towards the unusual empty seat next to him. Before Lily could decline his offer, he added: "Please. I really need your help this week in Potions. I'll get you something nice from Honeydukes?"
Lily scoffed. "But if I sit with you, it means Camille has to sit withโ" She shot Sirius a brief look and shook her head. "No way."
But when the classroom door opened, revealing Professor Slughorn, James had to make a desperate gesture, so he reached out for Lily's wrist and pulled her on the empty seat next to him, then apologized for it.
"Good morning, class!" Horace Slughorn said, stopping when he noticed Camille was still searching for a seat. "Ms. Rainier, feel free to sit down next to Mr. Black."
If only Slughorn didn't look at her now, Camille would have grimaced when she heard the teacher's instructions. But there was not much she could do, so she glared at James for a short moment, then looked reassuringly in Lily's direction right before she started to walk to Sirius' desk. He shifted in his seat, making some more space for her. He wanted to help her with her seat, but something told him that she probably would mind it, so he decided against it.
Sirius cleared his throat, already knowing that he wasn't going to be able to focus too much during this class. While Slughorn was saying something about the potion they were going to brew today, the Elixir to Induce Euphoria, Sirius was trying his best not to look at Camille every five seconds or so, but he couldn't help himself. She was looking particularly lovely this morning. He loved her hair like thisโstyled in a low, wavy ponytail, tied with some colorful ribbon. And the way her bangs were perfectly trimmed and modeled. It was pointless to mention how her rose oil scent was driving him crazy, or how much he missed it. The last time he got close enough to smell it, it was on Saturday, when he asked her to allow him to walk her back to the castle and she declined, but he would rather not think about that.
"That being said, I'm going to evaluate your potions at the end of this class," Horace Slughorn said, snapping Sirius out of his daydream.
He could have brewed this potion easily, if only he would have listened to the instructions. Slightly embarrassed by it, and wary nonetheless, he scratched the back of his head and whispered to Camille.
"Um, I haven't been exactly paying attention," he said, hoping that she wasn't going to refuse to help him. "Would you mind sharing your notes with me? Please?"
Much to his surprise, Camille passed her notebook to him, but she didn't say a word about it. Instead, she just began to cut the Shrivelfig and added it in her cauldron before moving on to the Porcupine quills.
"Thanks," he muttered to her, taking a look at her notes before he gathered his ingredients as well. The silence, it was bugging him, so Sirius decided to say something, but immediately regretted it. "I assume Myles Hemlock has already given you tips on how to brew this elixir?"
"None of your business."
He should have expected that. "Right." Sirius sighed, then felt the need to add: "You know, I actually have nothing to do with Kendra Dovetail. I think I only spoke to her once, and briefly."
"And what do you want me to say? Congratulate you?" Camille scoffed as she counted the times she stirred her potion anti-clockwise.
"No, but I thought you would want to know," he mumbled, throwing some Porcupine quills in his own cauldron as well. "I'm sorry."
"What are you apologizing for this time?"
At least she was talking to him, that could be considered progress. "For everything? But mostly for Saturday, I didn't get to properly apologize for that. I shouldn't have stepped in between you and Hemlock, but I wasn't thinking too much before I did it."
"Why do you care?" Camille asked, putting her spoon down all of a sudden before she turned to look at him. "You could have just pretended it didn't happen, you seem to be pretty good at that."
Ouch. It hurt, but it was deserved, nonetheless. "Because I care about you, Camille. I never stopped doing it, but you don't want to believe that."
"Well, I think I have some good enough reasons to doubt that, don't I?" Camille scoffed, looking away. "Just mind your own business."
"And what if I don't want to mind my own business?"
She rolled her eyes right after adding some Peppermint and grabbed some Sopophorous beans, but she didn't weigh them before angrily throwing them in the cauldron. "Do you really have to be this stubborn? I thought I made myself clear enough that I don't want anything to do with you anymoreโ"
Uh-oh.
"Camille.."
"โso why do you keep acting like this? Why can't you just leave me alone and mind your own life, instead of being so concerned about mine?"
"Camille."
But the girl didn't listen.
"I think you've done enough, Sirius Black. People are already whispering when I pass by them on the hallway, so how about you stop giving them a reason to talk about me? Being transferred here in my sixth year is already hard enough as it is, I don't need the entire school prying into my personal life just because you can't accept the fact thatโ"
"Camille!"
Sirius noticed something was wrong with her potion, it started to change its color in an unusual way and she wasn't paying attention to it, so he had to do something about it. He might have not known too much about this particular brew, but he knew how to recognize a potion that was about to explode from miles away, and hers was headed exactly in that way, as the liquid inside her cauldron continued to grow and spark in an odd manner. He had to act quickly and there was no way he could have warned her in time, so Sirius grabbed her by the shoulders and pulled her underneath their desk right before the potion could blow up.
Unfortunately, he wasn't quick enough.
By the time he opened his eyes to look at her, he saw the expression on her face dramatically change from angry to sereneโshe looked like she had nothing to worry about in the world and it made Sirius' heart skip a beat, as it reminded him of the way she used to look this summer. So it was pure happiness that she felt back then. He was sure of it now.
"What on Merlin's Beard are you two doing there?" Slughorn asked, groaning when he saw Sirius hovering over Camille under the desk and the disaster left behind the small explosion. "Mrs. Rainier, Mr. Black, you just got yourselves detention this Friday."
But not even the mention of detention could snap Camille out of her happy trance, and Sirius understood that she must have inhaled some of the smoke after the explosion. There was no way she could stay like this in class for the rest of the day, he had to pull her out.
"Yes, Professor. Detention, we'll be there," Sirius said, helping Camille get back on her feet, "but for now, I'm afraid I ought to take Ms. Rainier back to her room. I believe she inhaled some of the smoke, and that she's under the influence of the Elixir. Somehow."
After taking a good look at her, Horace Slughorn agreed to let Sirius walk Camille back to her dorm room, much to Lily Evans' shock, who offered to do that herself, but James Potter insisted that Lily would stay to help him finish his brew.
As they were making their way to the Gryffindor Tower, Sirius made sure to keep a close eye on Camille. Her potion hasn't been successfully brewed, he didn't know what side effects could show up and all Slughorn has said was that he trusted Sirius would handle her just fine. Whatever that was supposed to mean.
"Look, Sirius!" Camille said, reaching for his hand to get his attention, squeezed it, then pointed at a bird that sneaked through one of the open windows. "Voyez-lร ! Isn't it beautiful?"
He was taken aback by her sudden gesture. When she squeezed his hand, Sirius squeezed hers right back, and his heart started to beat louder and faster. He couldn't even look at whatever she was pointing at, his eyes were glued to her, but he still hummed in response, "Beautiful, yes."
Camille turned around and giggled, then pulled him by the hand closer to the bird, so she could take a better look and of course he complied. Sirius almost forgot she was under the influence of a potion gone wrong, but he didn't want to let the harsh truth sink in just yet.
"You want to go outside and look at the birds?" he asked, the corners of his lips tugging up into a sincere smile when he looked at her. "I know a very good place. Besides, Professor Slughorn allowed us to leave, but he didn't say anything about coming back."
He was glad that she agreedโnot that he doubted she will. The promise of a better view on the birds, it fit very well with what seemed to be what she desired to do now. So he sneaked out with her to the Astronomy Tower, never letting go of her hand, not even when they took their seats on the ground.
Camille looked around her and gasped. The view, it was absolutely breathtaking. "Mon Dieu, c'est magnifique!" she said in wonder, then turned to look at him and chuckled. "This is astonishing, I wonder how the stars look like from up here. Thank you for bringing me here, Sirius."
She rested her head against his shoulder and looked at every bird that passed by them. Sirius was frozen into place. As much as he was enjoying having her in his arms again, he knew it wasn't fair of him to do so, and even though it was hard, he reminded himself that this is not how Camille would behave if she weren't under the influence of the Euphoria Elixir, so he promised himself he wouldn't cross any lines. But when he felt her head pressing against his shoulder, he couldn't help himself. He slightly turned his head in her direction, and pressed a kiss against her temple.
"You're welcome, my love."
For the following hour, they stood there, with their feet dangling on the edge of the Tower, looking at the beautiful view they had from up there and at the birds that flew by them. Sirius gently caressed her hand, kissing it from time to time, while using his other one to point at locations they could see from there and name them, one by one. He wasn't sure if she was going to remember any of this after the effects of the potion would wear off, but he knew he would.
It all felt.. natural. But it was a treacherous, misleading feeling, as it was not the reality, but a version of it which he made up inside his head that temporarily came true because of a little accident in Slughorn's class. Oh, but Sirius enjoyed it too much. If only he hadn't been a complete fool at the end of the summer. If only he hadn't disappeared like that, then maybe this is how all of his days at Hogwarts would have looked like. He knew he couldn't change the pastโand Merlin knows he would have wanted that more than anythingโso all there was left for him to do was to work on the future.
This couldn't be the last time he would hold her like this.
They were talking about the smallest of things when all of a sudden, Camille brought a hand to her forehead and groaned. The Euphoria Elixir was about to wear off. Sirius sighed, then furrowed his eyebrows, but he didn't let go of her hand.
"Are you alright, Camille?" he asked. "Does it hurt?"
The girl nodded, covering her vision with her free hand. It was then when she realized why one of her hands felt so warm, while the other didn't, but surprisingly, she didn't pull it back. Instead, she let out another pained moan.
"What happened?" she asked.
Sirius wondered if she suffered from a temporary memory loss, but he decided to answer her question nonetheless. "You blew up your potion, the Elixir to Induce Euphoria, and i suspect you inhaled some of its smoke before I managed to pull you away from it. You, uhโyou wanted to see the birds, so I brought you up here."
"I remember that, yes," Camille said, clearing any supposition that she might have a loophole in her memory. "I just couldn't recall how I ended up blowing up the potion, that's all."
"Oh, that.." Sirius trailed off, running a tongue over his lower lip to buy himself some time to think about how to say this to her. "Well, I think it's my fault? We were having an intense conversation and I believe that at some point, you were more focused on that rather than the cauldron."
"I see."
"We also might have got detention for that," he added, and Camille pulled her hand from his, causing Sirius to sigh again. "I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing? It was my fault you got detention. I was the one to blow up the cauldron, not you," Camille pointed out. "Or were you not apologizing for that?"
He wasn't sure how to reply to that, because he wasn't even sure what he apologized for. Lately, it seemed like it became a habit, apologizing to her and taking the blame.
"I should better get going. If I'm lucky, I might make it to Herbology in time," she said, getting back on her feet.
"Actually, you're excused for today. Thank Slughorn for that," Sirius informed her, also rising to his feet. "May I walk you to your dorm? I'm kind of supposed to watch over you today, or at least until your roommates come back."
"You don't have toโ"
"But I want to."
"Alright. Just once," Camille agreed.
"Just once," Sirius repeated, biting back a grin that threatened to appear, and tried to focus on getting out of the Astronomy Tower without being seen instead.
"So we weren't supposed to be here?" Camille asked, her voice as low as a whisper.
"No," Sirius admitted, finally making it back to the corridors. "But I come here all the time and I never got in trouble for it. Or, at least, I don't remember it."
"What are you two doing over there?" a voice asked, forcing both of them to turn around and see who it belonged to.
"Myles," Camille breathed out.
Sirius, however, rolled his eyes so hard that it almost seemed like they got stuck in the back of his head for a second. "How did I not anticipate you showing up?" he muttered under his breath.
"Hello, Camille," he said, flashing the girl a wolfish smile that faded as soon as he looked at Sirius. "Black."
"We were, uhโ" Camille didn't know how to explain what they were doing, because she couldn't tell him they've been up in the Astronomy Tower, as it was, apparently, off the grounds for students, so she looked at Sirius for help.
"Why do you care what Camille and I were up to, anyway?" Sirius scoffed, then mocked him. "What are you going to do, tell the Prefect about it?"
They knew very well that Remus wasn't going to say anything about Sirius sneaking up in the Astronomy Tower again. If anything, he would be happy to hear he went there with Camille, so there was nothing Myles Hemlock had on him.
"Is he bothering you again, Camille?" Myles asked, ignoring what Sirius said earlier.Which, of course, got on the troublemaker's nerves.
"Bothering her?" Sirius repeated. "Look, Hemlock, I don't know what's going on in that little head of yoursโprobably not muchโbut why don't you go mind your own business somewhere else, eh?"
"I wasn't talking to you, Black," Myles pointed out, a hint of annoyance in his voice. "I was talking to herโ"
"If you have anything to say to her, you can say it to me too."
Sirius was being territorial. It wasn't that he was usually bothered by Myles Hemlock, but he started to get annoyed by his presence ever since he saw her with Camille in Hogsmeade.
"And if I don't have anything to say to you, Black?" Myles asked, then rolled his eyes at the younger Gryffindor. He was about to walk over to Camille, but Sirius blocked his way.
"Then we'll get get going." Without thinking too much about it, Sirius gently closed his fingers around Camille's wrist. "Come on, you should probably lie down. How's your head? Is it still hurting?"
If the girl had been pretty silent by now, when Sirius asked about her head, Camille nodded. "A bit."
When he heard about it, Sirius frowned. He wasn't going to sit by and toy with Myles Hemlock while Camille was having a headache. He had plenty of time to do that from now on, since the boy clearly made it to his blacklist with that attitude of his.
"Let's go, the Gryffindor Tower is nearby," he whispered to her, then his wild eyes shifted from Camille to Myles as he growled, "Move," right before hitting his shoulder intentionally as they passed by him.
Ignoring Myles' complaints, Sirius walked over to the Fat Lady, his hand still wrapped around Camille's wrist as he told her the password and went with her through the door. As they reached the common room, Sirius spoke.
"Do you want to stay here, on the couch, or should we go upstairs?" he asked, his steps coming to a halt for a while, as he was waiting for an answer.
"I'll go upstairs, but you don't have to come with me.."
"Camille," he called out her name, giving her a stern look. "You're not feeling good, I can't let you alone."
"I'm a big girl, Sirius," she pointed out. "I can take care of a headache. Besides, you'll be downstairs, so I'll call out for you if I need anything."
Sirius sighed. "Come with me, alright?" he said, then gently squeezed the girl's hand until she gave in.
Camille pouted, but she followed him around the common rooms. She was about to step towards the girls' staircase, but Sirius' grip guided her in the opposite direction.
With a slightly confused frown on her face, Camille asked, "What are you doing?"
"Walking," Sirius replied. He tried to keep a straight face, but his cheeks dimpled and his mouth twitched into a coy smile.
"Obviously." She clicked her tongue and shot him a suspicious look, but she didn't stop walking. "Then let me ask you another question, where are we walking go? My room is not this way, but I'm sure you know that."
"I do, yes," he admitted, then licked his lower lip and stopped right in front of they boys' staircase. "But I'm not allowed there and the stairs are enchanted, so I can't fool them either, which leaves us with one option."
"You're joking."
Before she could reject him, Sirius bent a little. He placed one arm around her and the other one behind her knees, and he lifted her off the ground and pressed her against his chest to support her. "Why would I joke about enchanted stairs? They're not even fun. If anything, it's actually painful."
"Oh, so you tried climbing the girls' staircase before," she said with a scoff, placing one of her hands on his shoulder and one over his chest. "You've had your fun, now put me down."
"I did, yes," Sirius said, nodding, "I was helping out James plan a romantic surprise for his dear Evans, but as you can probably imagine, we didn't make it to her bedroom." If he missed it when Camille made her harsh comment, this time, Sirius sensed the slight jealousy behind her words. She cared. It had to be true, otherwise why would she be bothered by the idea of him sneaking up in the girls' dormitory wing?
"Did you not hear me when I told you to put me down, Sirius Black?"
"Calling me by my full name isn't going to help you make me do anything," he pointed out, climbing the stairs all the way up to top, still carrying her in his arms. "Besides, I know you well enough to know that if you really wanted to be put down, you would have put up a better fight. You're just being stubborn."
"Maybe I am, but in my defense, I have every right to be," she said. Then, her voice went a little lower. "You left me, Sirius. Remember?"
Reaching the doorway, Sirius stopped dead in his tracks. "I did," he said, sucking in a sharp breath before speaking again, "And I was a bloody idiot." Lowering his gaze, the boy allowed himself to look her in her electrifying eyes. There were many pretty shades of blue in the world, but he never found one that made his heart flutter like Camille's eyes did. He felt absolutely hypnotized every time he looked in her eyes, and even more so when he was this close. It was hard for him to breathe, let alone think clearly. "I'm sorry, Camille. If I could go back and change it, I would have never left you. But as much as I want to, I can't do it, and it was cowardly of me to think that it would hurt less to run away. In the end, I lost exactly what I feared I would lose."
At first, Camille refused to listen. She tried to block out his words, to put some sort of invisible barrier between them, but how could she push him away when he just said everything she wanted to hear? For days and nights she went to sleep when her tears finally dried up, and every time, she dreamed of him. And she dreamed of how he told her that he missed her, and that he's sorry, that he hasn't been able to get her out of his mind and that she's everything he wanted. And even though he said much more in his dreams, nothing could compare to how Camille felt when Sirius apologized to her.
"My love, no..." Sirius mumbled, frowning at the sight of tears rolling out of her eyes and down her beautiful cheeks, a cruel reminder that he would always make her cry, that this might have been all he could ever offer her. And if only he had a spare hand to wipe any trace of sadness away, he would do it in a second. "I've made you cry again, I'm sorry."
"No, it's notโI'm notโ" Camille quickly wiped her tears away, and she shook her head. "It's not thatโ"
"Camille?" a voice called out from downstairs.
Upon hearing it, both Sirius and Camille looked in that direction, but they couldn't see anything from where they were standing. After he let out a heavy sigh, Sirius put her down and took a step back right before Remus and Lily could reach the top of the stairs.
"There you were!" Lily said, running to the girl's side. Noticing traces of fresh tears on her face, Lily felt her cheeks starting to burn with anger. She turned to Sirius, her hands curling up into fists. "Bugger off, Black!" She then reached for Camille's hand, whispering in her ear, "Alright, Camille?"
The two girls walked down the stairs, leaving Remus with a version of Sirius he didn't see very often, and it hurt to see his friend looking so heartbroken.
"Come on, Padfoot," Remus said, putting an arm around his friend. "We have to get you back in class. Evans will watch over your girlfriend today, McGonagall's orders."
"She's notโ" Sirius started, then cut himself off by inhaling deeply. "She's not my girlfriend anymore, Moony."
